Continuing problem when foot is on brake pedal and hit a bump in road, grinding noise and vibration sensation in pedal. Toyota dealer says brakes are ok. Today this happened but this time the grinding noise was pronounced and the car would not brake - fortunately I was not driving at a high rate of speed and barely stopped in time before almost rear ending car in front of me. I have found several complaints on line of the same problem.

Brakes began making grinding noise when applied in during stop and go traffic. Was taken to dealership where I was told brakes are fine. As soon as I left I began hearing noise again while applying brakes and called them back but was told nothing could be done since no issue.
Takata recall, I was driving home in stop in go traffic on freeway and the truck in front of me speed up. Once I accelerated to about 20-25 miles an hour the truck stopped, I saw it and tried to stop but brakes would not work. There was a grinding noise that you could feel and hear as well as wouldn't let you push all the way down on brakes. This resulted in me hitting the person in front of me. Hood is pushed up and front bumper completely off as well as light damage and more but no airbags were deployed. All 3 of my children were in the car with me and this is a hug safety issue.

Several times, I have experienced "brake failure" along with a grinding noise. Braking system must be the problem. However, the dealership says everything is working properly. I have taken it to the dealership 2 times since I purchased the new car. The first incident was in October 2016 - with only 1784 miles. On may 1, 2017; I applied my brakes upon approaching a "stop sign". Unfortunately, the pedal went to the floor( I could feel the grinding in the brake pedal)and there was a delay in my car coming to a complete stop. I took the car to the dealership, again. According to the service department, there is nothing wrong with the braking system. I do not have any warning when the brakes fail to work. It doesn't seem to matter if I am traveling at a slow or higher rate of speed. Please investigate this problem. I am very concerned and the Toyota company doesn't seem to be concerned about this issue.
Breaks dont stop the car and also make a grinding noise when trying to break while going over any kind of bumps.
There's a high pitched metal grinding noise that has been coming and going on it's own when applying the brakes. This noise happens at slow or high speeds. My brake pads still have meat on them and the rotor is not warped as well. I've even checked for brake dust which I don't have any so I'm not sure what's going on. My friend's 2012 Corolla makes the same metal grinding noise when braking and there has even been complaints on carcomplaints. Com and see people having the same issue. I bought this car over two years ago and it still has been making the same noise since then. Please look into this because this could be a serious issue due to a problem with the most important part of a car. . The braking system! thank you, NHTSA.

Had the front brake pads and rotors replaced on car March 1, 2013. A month and a half later I heard grinding noise from left wheel. Took car in on 4/11/13 and was told brake pads and rotors were fine, but that the hub and bearing were failing on the left. Was also told this was rare that that they don't usually see a hub and bearing failing at this mileage. This is a serious problem and if you do not do anything about it your wheel could fall off. I was advised by someone with experience with this problem to go ahead and fix it which I did on 4/16/13. Was also advised by this same person that the failure was probably the result of a factory defect, but at this point there is no way to prove it and the car is out of warranty. The warranty for this repair is only a year and the failure rate after fixing this type of issue is high. I no longer trust my car!!!!!.

Any time you go over any bump or hit any pothole, the brakes become very spongy feeling. When you push the breaks, they feel very bumpy (almost like there are rocks in between the drum and the pads and it makes a grinding noise. Sometimes it even acts like it doesn't want to stop at all. As soon as you left off of them and reapply them, it is fine. It only happens if you go over something that is bumpy that causes any kind of jolt to the car. We took it to the dealer but they could not duplicate the problem. I am about to take it back again because it is still doing it.
I have made complaints do the dealership during multiple 5000 mile check ups on my brake grinding. When stopping on uneven surfaces or wet surface my brakes will periodically make a grinding noise which I can feel a vibration up through the pedal that shakes my leg. Passengers can feel and hear these incidence as well. However, the dealership cannot duplicate this problem when the vehicle is being serviced and therefore they see no problem. On today's visit I have requested a brake system check which I was informed that the only thing they could find was the abs when pressing brakes hard. However this incident happens to me when I am coming to a slow stop not when drastically pressing the brakes. I was not satisfied with this and there was nothing more they could say but this is what it is and there's nothing they do about it.
Grinding noise coming out of the front brakes due to warpage in the front rotors.
Month: February and March 2010
weather: dry roads
speed: less than 35mph
on two occurrences, I tried to brake to stop my car. The brakes made a very loud grinding noise, and the car did not slow down. I released the brake and then pressed it all the way to the floor, at which point the car stopped. I called the dealership and they seemed very unconcerned about it. I am scared to drive my car.

The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Corolla. The contact was driving approximately 40 mph slight pressure was applied to the accelerator pedal which caused the speed rate to increase rapidly; and upon release of the accelerator pedal a rapid decrease occurred. There was prior recall repair performed on the vehicle before the failure. The NHTSA campaign id number was unknown. Additionally, a loud grinding noise came from the front end of the vehicle when the brake pedal was engaged. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and informed that there was no problem with the vehicle and to increase the sound of the radio louder while driving to avoid the grinding noise. The failure mileage was 34,000. The current mileage was 35,800.
The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Corolla. The contact noticed a grinding noise most of the time when she depressed the brake pedal. She took the vehicle to the dealer who stated that they could not find anything wrong with it. The failure continued to occur and the dealer turned the rotors to remedy the problem; however, she continued hearing the grinding noise. In September 2009, she took the vehicle to the dealer who replaced the brake pads and rotors. She no longer noticed the noise; yet, the brake pedal extended to the floor with a sudden pulling and grabbing motion. The dealer told her that the abs activated which caused that feeling. She also stated that the vehicle would suddenly accelerate on an intermittent basis. In December 2009, the driver crashed into a brick wall when the vehicle suddenly accelerated. There were no injuries. The dealer took pictures and told her that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. Furthermore, the gear shift broke and the dealer did not repair the vehicle for six months. She called the manufacturer and was unable to speak with a representative. The current mileage was approximately 17,000. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000.
Problem: squeezing / grinding noise in brakes which sometimes happens as one drives slowly and brakes. The problem started after I had the car for 2 and 3 quarters years. Toyota technician looked at the problem 2 times and mentioned that everything is normal. After that a Toyota customer service representative called me and mentioned that the brakes are fine and that a certain repair at my cost could be done. When I asked the Toyota customer service representative to explain in writing what the exact problem is and how to solve it and she agreed to do so. Previous communication had also be in writing. But Toyota has not done so as to date. Please note that the exact model is Toyota runx, based on Toyota Corolla 4 doors.
Ever since my vehicle was purchased, I would hear a squeaking/grinding noise coming from the front of the vehicle when I hit the brake pedal. The sound only existed when I put the vehicle to reverse. However, near the 20,000 miles point, the sound has become louder and exist even when driving forward and braking. I have reported this problem to three different Toyota dealerships and they are unable to repair it. The problem occurs when I need to stop the vehicle and push on the brake pedal. There would be a loud grinding noise and sometimes the brake pedal would also vibrate. The Toyota dealerships have changed my brake pads and performed several inspections. However, it did not solve the problem. Now they are refusing to do anything and claims that the problem is normal (at nearly 60,000 miles). I feel that there is something really wrong and unsafe about the situation. What if the brakes fail at any moment? what steps should I take? even Toyota customer experience service is telling me that the dealer diagnostic says it is a normal condition.
The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Corolla. While driving approximately 60 miles per hour, the contact applied the brakes and noticed a grinding noise. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was advised that nothing was wrong with the vehicle. The contact attempted to speak with the manufacturer but had not received a call back. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 5. The current mileage was 24,688.
The rear brakes on my 2003 Corolla have been replaced several times within the last 6 months and had been adjusted. Still when you brake, it still making a grinding noise. Pads have been change several times and temporarily the grinding noise will go away and after about 3-4 weeks it returns. About 2 months ago someone fixed the problem, now its back again.

The brakes failed, causing the vehicle to crash into a wall while attempting to park in a garage. Also, power steering did not work during inclement weather, making the ability to maintain control of the vehicle difficult. Manufacturer was contacted by consumer. Prior to the accident, the brakes locked up and skidded in dry road conditions. Vehicle surged forward when attempting to stop vehicle. When the power steering failed the battery light came on. Dealer found nothing wrong and no adjustments were made. After vehicle came back from dealer's inspection there was a grinding/scretching noise. Consumer had to take vehicle back to dealer and found that the backing plate behind the rotors was bent. Backing plate was bend back into place. Consumer felt grinding noise was not a result of accident and/or damages occured to vehicle.
