2 Brake Light On problem of the 2013 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 10/11/2018

My daughter was driving south on interstate 95 (MD) in the far left lane (fast lane) when her 2013 Toyota Corolla went out of control and went into a 180 degree clockwise spin across 3 lanes of traffic into the far right right lane (slow lane) and when she pumped her brakes the car went into a 180 degree counter clockwise spin back across 4 lanes of traffic almost getting hit by a Jeep before stopping on the left shoulder facing oncoming traffic. Incident happened in rush hour traffic at 9:20am on wet roads. Yellow abs light and traction control light was on, but not the red brake light. Was told by Toyota that the brake actuator assembly failed. In researching this issue, I found Toyota to have a history of brake actuator assembly problems resulting in warranty extensions, service campaigns & recalls on 2007-to 2011 camry's ,2010 prius, 2012 & 2013 tacoma pick ups, Toyota rav 4's.

3 Brake Light On problem of the 2016 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 10/01/2018

I was driving and was exiting a freeway. As I was applying the brake, the brake was not engaging, and was making a hissing sound every time I pressed the brake pedal trying to stop the car. After applying the brake several times, the brakes finally engaged and abruptly stopped the car, coming just inches from the car which was stopped in front of me. While this had occurred and for a couple of weeks afterward, the anti-lock display light would not turn on. The anti-lock brake light eventually started to work again couple of weeks after this incident.

4 Brake Light On problem of the 2017 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 08/21/2018

I'm a trooper with the oregon state police. I covered a crash today where the mentioned vehicle braked for the driver, but the brake lights never engaged. I spoke to another Toyota owner on scene who stated his Toyota does the same when the vehicle is braking for him. The driver behind this Toyota was able to stop in time, but I can see this lack of brake lights as a problem.

Now I'm told the sensors mat be out. Had my brakes checked they are good. I just don't understand why this happened to a car that wasn't even moving. The car was parked in my driveway and locked.

7 Brake Light On problem of the 2012 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 10/21/2016

Failure of the abs brake controller caused 3 lights on the dash to intermittently light (abs, traction & brake) during all driving conditions. Sometimes the brake light would be off while the abs & traction lights were on, and other times all three lights would be off. A computer scan discovered a short in the abs brake controller.

8 Brake Light On problem of the 2009 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 01/29/2015

Abs and brake lights came on. The mechanic tells me that both rear abs sensors are bad (codes c0210 and c0215). This is a Toyota Corolla 2009 le with only 81k miles and I hear the same problem exists in some friends's cars. We have lots of snow in cleveland area and it is ridiculous not to have abs working because of this problem. Looking at discussion groups, this sounds like a recall to me.

9 Brake Light On problem of the 1996 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/05/2014

Tl- the contact owns a 1996 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that the suspension was unstable and that there was a rattling noise coming from the front of the vehicle. The contact was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 10e002000 (suspension). The contact also stated that there was an intermittent electrical short in which the fuzes shorted. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop and the mechanic diagnosed that the dashboard would need to be taken apart to replace and rewire the wires that were faulty and causing the fuzes to be blown. The mechanic replaced the fuzes. The brake light also stayed illuminated due to a failure that was progressing. The contact also indicated that the brake pedal had to be pressed completely to the floor with force to completely stop the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was not available. Dyd.

10 Brake Light On problem of the 2009 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 01/16/2013

Abs and brake light turned on together. This is turning out to be a very common issue which is due to the corrosion of the sensors on the rare wheels. With abs light turned on, the vehicle is incapable of applying abs when required during brake, creating a high safety concern.

11 Brake Light On problem of the 2009 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 01/06/2013

On Jan. 6th, we hit a deer about 10 miles from home, and through our insurance had the car taken to a local body shop where it was fixed. Repairs were made and a few months later the abs & brake light illuminated and wouldn't turn off. We contacted the insurance and they told us to take the vehicle back to the body shop, where they would send to Toyota for repairs. Toyota informed us that the abs actuator was bad and needed to be replaced. For insurance purposes, the body shop ordered a used lkq abs actuator. Two parts were ordered, the first one being incorrect, and was installed and we picked up the car. A few months later, to avoid being in a car accident, I slammed on the brakes and noticed the car pulled harshly to the left. I thought nothing of it until my spouse had slammed on the brakes to avoid a car pulling out in front of her, the car locked up, then started to skid to the left almost causing her to crash into the vehicle she was trying to avoid. We took the vehicle to Toyota to assess the problem, again, it was the actuator. Another lkq used actuator was purchased as per our insurance gmac, and it was the incorrect part. The correct part was ordered the 2nd and 3rd time, but both were damaged and unusable. Gmac finally allowed the body shop to order a new part via Toyota. This is the 6th actuator that was installed and we picked up our car on Aug. 30th 2013. The next day, I decided to slam on the brakes to test if they were working accordingly, and was surprised to discover that they pull extremely hard to the left. I don't feel safe driving the vehicle and really hope that the problem can be corrected. If the body shop and Toyota had realized the extent of the repairs from the beginning, the vehicle would've been considered totaled, the car is worth approx. $10,000. The total of all repairs done so far to-date since the accident are approx. $9500.

12 Brake Light On problem of the 2009 Toyota Corolla

14 Brake Light On problem of the 2009 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 04/19/2010

I experienced a failure of the brakes in my 2009 Toyota Corolla s. I was pulling out of the parking lot at work today and approaching a busy road to turn right onto. Approaching the turn at about 5 mph, I pushed the brake pedal lightly to gradually slow down to a stop to avoid entering the road into oncoming traffic. However, when the brake pedal was pushed, I heard a grinding noise and the car did not decelerate at all. It may have been the abs activating, despite the low speed and light pressure on the brake pedal. I tried applying more pressure to the brake, but there was still no deceleration. Only when I released the brakes completely (which is very hard to do when you're about to drive into oncoming traffic) and reapplied pressure to the brake pedal did the brakes engage and the vehicle stop. This is the first time I have had an issue with the brakes in nearly 20,000 miles of driving this vehicle.

15 Brake Light On problem of the 2010 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/03/2010

I drive Toyota Corolla LS 2010. I was driving to work today approximately with 45m/h. I was getting ready to take an exit from the highway, I saw couple cars were stopped in the middle of the exit approximately meter away from me. I decided to reduce the speed and getback to the highway(to get around them so I can take my exit. I hit my brake slightly to slow down my car did not even change speed, I tried couple times nothing happened. Then I decided to step on the brake all the way my car did not change the speed at all it was going at the same speed. My car was traveling straight road for 7-8 seconds, then I had to make a quick decision so I will not hit the cars that was onfront of me(they were stopped in the middle of the road for some reason) because I was getting too close. I decided to get back to highway so I willnot hit anyone. But after I tried to get back to the highway I totally lost my control of the car. The car moved with no control for several seconds then I and up in the middle of the highway. I was lucky everyone was behind me and they stayed away from my car. I just took my car to be fixed from the sticking acceleration problem. I believe my breaks did not worked at that point and my car was moving with the same speed . Afterward I was able to move my car and my brakes were working. I am worried to drive that car. I do not feel safe. I could of hurt the lady and her kids that were behind me.

18 Brake Light On problem of the 2007 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 10/13/2008

Driving on 2 lane blacktop road, dog in my path of travel, firmly applied the brakes, car was pulled to the right, went off the road and continued to travel parallel until I struck a gravel entry driveway to a field with the front of my vehicle and then flipped end over end 3 times according to witness finally resting on its top. Upon looking at the scene, there was one (1)black skid mark. The highway was dry, there was a very slight incline in the road and it was a straight stretch. The weather was overcast. The insurance company would not investigate my complaint and insisted that I swerved. I called Toyota and they "checked the brakes" on the totalled car and the headlight operation. I had called them to figure out what had gone wrong. In their report they said there was nothing wrong with the brakes or headlights. I had reported that prior to this incident that the headlights would go on for no apparent reason at the same location (an area where my cell phone coverage would go out). The accident occurred near an airport which was another area where my cell phone coverage would go out. Since I had fractured my sternum and had the discolored imprint of the turn signal on my chest, I thought that the air bag should have deployed on first impact. I questioned the brakes and electronic/electrical system. Their report is dated 11/11/2008 and does not indicate a file or complaint number.
