I was on a decline on the off ramp, and when I went to stop for a lite, my brakes would not stop my car. I tried to stop, and felt as if the car sped up. I had complained to the dealer and had them check my breaks four times because of a stopping issue. Shortly before my crash my breaks would screech, and I thought it to be durt on my breaks, or break dust. I had taken the car to a recommended break shop to get my breaks checked out. They said the break pads, roders, calipers etc were in good condition with only one or two issues. I asked them to replace the roders, and break pads with oem parts. The issue now sits with the breaks being depressed as hard as one can depress them, only to have the car not stop, and feel like it was speeding up. At the time of the crash, you could hear the motoar speeding up even with my foot only on the break and clearly the car would not stop.

Purchased car used (7000 miles) from Toyota dealer in acton, MA. Took in for checkup every 5000 miles until 35,000 miles. At 38,000 miles, took off front wheels to check brakes and found that the inside of both rotors were terrifically grooved and the pads the same, while the outside of the rotors was good and the outside pads hardly used. The brake calipers on both sides were frozen. I replaced everything and showed the dealership my pictures. They said they would talk to their staff and offered no help, so I paid for everything. This was unsafe and obviously missed multiple times on the "160-point inspection"! it looked like a problem from when the car was new and first used as a rental by the dealer. The brakes made little extra sound(but the scraping would have been under the engine compartment) and the brakes stopped the car okay with just a little extra pressure---I thought it was normal for this car.

I bought a brand new Toyota Corolla 2011 right off the lot and the caliper began seizing. The car would thrust to the left while braking at high speeds. The caliper was replaced by Toyota under warranty, however the problem has began reoccurring intermittently now at 60,000 miles.
Safety issue
I have 2007 ( new from the dealer) Corolla has only 46k mile, I replaced the break at 31k at the end of 2009 when the dealer confirm that the break pat need to be replaced and I was surprised to hear that for 2 yrs old car with only 31k. I did replace the break pat to protect the car
yesterday the car has gridding noise, and I took the car to the dealer and he told me that the left pat only is completely gone, I was surprise, because it is only 15k since last time he replaced the break pat, he told me that the caliper stuck and cause this problem because the moisture get inside the break disc and freeze the disk and froze the calipers and cause this
the car has only 46k and to change the break twice there is some design and safety issue with moisture get into the caliper. It is Toyota design and all Corolla in the USA need to fix the moisture getting into the caliper and cause it to stuck. It is public safety
I did not fix the car with the dealer because he was so ignorant and I am concern about the Toyota service at this dealer and I will elevate that to higher level with district attorney because it is public safety concern for me and my family and the public.

On 10-10-2010 (approx). R. Front break caliper ceased. Incident almost caused significant accident on I-25 north bound near santa fe blvd in denver CO. Car suddenly lost acceleration power. Right wheel started smoking and almost caught on fire. Tire was hot to the touch. Toyota extended warranty only replaced caliper, not associated damage. I suggest you contact consumer protection bureau. Please see my other complaints, most submitted today, but I previous complained about breaks. This car is a deathtrap/lemon.

My Toyota Corolla 2005 cars brakes has always made a noise. Finally on 4-16-09 the car tires was very hot and smoking. The next day contacted gates Toyota, south bend , in. And had it towed in. The mounting disc brakes, disc brake calipers, pad kit, holders had to be replaced. Gates said that Toyota knew they had defective parts but they never do recalls so cost us $969. 27 to have fixed even though we had the extended coverage. Help us get our money back from when we bought the car the brakes sometimes acted up an like skipped and than would grab, and made noises, but was always told that was that type of brakes. Could not get them to fix it.

2008 Toyota Corolla with several brake problems. Consumer states that the brake caliper almost fell off. Mechanic determined that the front brakes needed a shim kit and then told the consumer they only checked one side not both.

Daughter driving, smelled and saw smoke, right front tire area. Two days later, same problem, right side brake drag. Towed to dealer. Told me not covered under warranty because some one put motor oil in the brake fluid. Went there. Tech put finger in reservoir, motor is in it, system is contaminated. The cost is 1,300 or more to replace everything. It doesn't look contaminated to me. I got samples, top, bottom of reservoir, front right bleeder, left rear bleeder. Other than the top sample from reservoir which was taken using a dirty battery tester, all other samples look good. Took sample from another car in service area with batter tester which had black specks coming out probably because brake fluid ate at rubber. After taking 3 or 4 tube full and throwing them away the black specks went away and got the sample. This sample was taken by the operation manager. Samples of front/right, rear/left, bottom of m/c where done by tech as I held bottle. All done in front of the manager. Said it was the m/c that was causing the brake to hold pressure. I ask how can it be only on one side? if the pressure is at m/c why aren't both wheels dragging or locking up? I took sample to tech at another dealer (not a Toyota dealer) he said there is nothing wrong with brake fluid and took test for contamination with fast strip testing. All were good. He also said that m/c not problem. This is a non abs system and works pretty simple. Called Toyota customer experience 3 times to talk to Toyota rep, dealer and Toyota refused access to rep. The dealer gave me this choice. . . We will do you a favor and replace the m/c at no cost, however if any other problems it will be considered contaminated and you will have to pay. We already know the front right was heated beyond a safe heat temperature which will cause problems. This puts me in a no win situation with the dealer and Toyota! if anyone else has this problem please report.
When light turned green consumer proceeded to apply gas pedal and 2005 Corolla barely moved. Consumer then smelled something burning. When the consumers wife parked and exited the vehicle, she noticed the right front wheel was burning and smoke was coming out of the wheel and was red. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. Upon inspection, they did confirm there was smoke coming from the passenger side wheel. The mechanic removed the front wheels and found the right front brake pads discolored and the rotors were deeply scored from the heat. The brake booster push rod were found protruding into the brake master and the issue was with the caliper . On oct 21, 2005 the consumer experienced the same failure again.
