I was driving in a parking lot and my engine suddenly died, for no apparent reason. I tried to restart the engine but it wouldn't start. I coasted into a spot, and then I restarted the car. This time it started fine. The engine revved loudly. I attempted to move the car forward, but it stalled again after a few feet. When I reported it to the dealer, they told me that the ecm was bad, but they could not identify what had caused the defect.
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Corolla. While driving approximately 20 to 30 mph on normal road conditions, the vehicle stalled without warning. The driver was able to restart the vehicle; however, the gear shifted into "drive" and then it unexpectedly moved in reverse. The "engine" and "battery" warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The engine was turned off and after several attempts the vehicle failed to restart. The contact was able to coast the vehicle to a nearby parking lot. The following day, the battery was replaced. The vehicle was driven for one mile and the identical failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer and the technician stated that the failure was contributed to the electrical computer system. The vehicle was repaired; although, the contact continued to have concerns of the safety risk involved. The failure and current mileages were 66,000. The consumer was informed he would receive documents in the mail regarding his complaint he filed in September 2009. Updated 03/22/10.
This is in regards to my 2005 Toyota Corolla. The computer (brain) to the car went out. Just one day I was driving and I came to a red light. When I stopped, the car just completely turned itself off. I tried to restart the car and it would not restart. It had the sounds of a dead battery trying to start but it wouldn't turn over. So I was stuck at the light until a tow truck came to get me. Upon taking it to a repair shop, I found out that the computer had gone out. I was then told that they had a notice out to all mechanics so if a car came into there shop, they would know what the problem was. I then contacted Toyota who told me that I was 8,000 miles over the warranty that they had set to replace this defect. I tried numerous times to get them to replace it and they flat out denied me. I know my car wasn't the only one with this problem. When I told them that I felt it was a safety issue, they just told me there wasn't anything they could do for me. My reasoning for it being a safety issue has to do with the fact that when that part goes out, the car will just turn off and you are stuck. I was lucky enough to be at a light. What if I was on the freeway? I would of been struck from behind from the other cars that were behind me going 65mph. After arguing with Toyota and getting nowhere, I ended up paying over $700. 00 to have the part replaced so I could once again use my car to get to work. I feel that Toyota should of been responsible for this, since they knew they had a problem with them and they should of been willing to replace the part no matter how many miles were on the vehicle.

I purchased a 2006 Toyota Corolla ce on 06-26-06. On 02-05-07 vehicle would not start. After several attempts it still didn't start. I called the local Toyota dealership and he told me to get a jump off because it was the battery due to the cold weather. I got a jump off and it still would start. I called the dealership back and he told me to call a tow truck. I did that and it was towed to the dealership. We needed all keys to see if it was the keys and it wasn't. He thought it was bad gas and it wasn't. Then he said it was the computer. The computer was replaced and I still have trouble cranking it now. I would turn the key and it wouldn't do anything. After several attempts, it would crank. Before this incidence, in July 2006, not even a month after getting the vehicle, my brakes started squealing and they still do now. The rotor was defective and replaced. Each time I take it for servicing, I'm told there's nothing wrong with the brakes. I filed a complaint with Toyota customer relations with no response. Now I've filed a complaint with the national center for dispute settlement.

On the fourth attempt the vehicle started and was driven into a parking space. Toyota towed the vehicle to the dealer. I purchased a 2006 Toyota Corolla le, and brought it home Jan. 2. Next morning, Jan. 3, vehicle would not start. After about 7 attempts it finally started. I took it back to dealership, they checked it and advised no problem found. I drove it to restaurant for lunch, went out later, vehicle would not start. Called dealership and advised them of the same. Needless to say, I was very upset. Dealership advised me to call tow truck. I called tow truck and waited 45 minutes. I then attempted to try to start vehicle and it started. I drove vehicle to dealership and advised them I did not want a new vehicle that was not going to start. They advised they would check it again and to leave it. They did furnish me with a car to drive in the meantime. They called me Wednesday, Jan. 4 to advise me they had reprogrammed the keys and that the vehicle was ready for me to pick up. They went out to start it and it would not start. The called me back to advise me of same and they would check it further. They called me Friday, Jan. 5 and said they had put a new computer in the car and I could pick it up. I drove to the dealership, they went out to get the vehicle. The service personnel came back and said it would not start. I was so upset and wanted to speak with the service manager. I advised him I did not want this car, I just purchased it on January 2, and I requested they put me in another vehicle. That, all I want is a vehicle that will start and run. They advised they would not do that because I had already signed the contract. Well, I did not know the vehicle had a problem such as this. I was so upset and asked to speak with the sales manager. He basically told me the same. I told him I do not want the vehicle, it is brand new and I should not have these types of problems. He advised I had only 2 options; leave the vehicle there and they would try to repair it or they would call the company representative regarding the lemon law.
On three occasions the vehicle would not start, as a result of a drained battery. 1st time the dealer replaced the battery, 2nd time the dealer stated that the alarm system had a short wire and was fixed. The 3rd time just occured and we are having the car towed to the dealer.

My car on an intermittent basis will not start after turning the key in the ignition. There is no cranking whatsoever. After several attempts of turning the key, the car finally started. I took the car to the dealership on the first incident and the nothing wrong could be detected. In April 2006, it has occurred again as the car will not start until several attempts of turning the key in the ignition. I am taking the car to dealership again on Monday, April 17th, 2006 to find out what is the matter with the car.
