The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the contact heard an abnormal popping and dragging sound coming from the vehicle. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and inspected the vehicle. The contact stated that the driver’s side bumper had detached, and the passenger’s side bumper was hanging down. The front bumper was popped back into place and the contact continued to drive. The contact stated that while continuing to drive the bumper fully detached and ripped the covering under the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the upper and lower bumpers needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

2 Bumper problem of the 2020 Toyota Highlander

Failure Date: 06/26/2024

The contact owns a 2020 Toyota Highlander. The contact stated while driving at approximately 65 mph, the front lower bumper cover detached from the vehicle, causing debris to scatter onto the highway, while the damaged bumper cover was dragged underneath the vehicle. During the failure, the vehicle sustained excessive front-end damage, and damages to the undercarriage and fender liners. 5 Bumper problem of the 2018 Toyota Highlander

Failure Date: 10/02/2020

The contact owns a 2018 Toyota Highlander equipped with a tow package. The contact stated that after taking the vehicle in for service, he made the dealer aware that on the passenger’s side rear of the vehicle where the muffler tip came out from underneath the vehicle that the plastic piece above the muffler was melted from exhaust heat coming from the muffler while towing his trailer. The dealer documented the incident and forwarded the findings to the manufacturer. The contact did not receive a callback, so he contacted the dealer and was informed that the vehicle was out of warranty and therefore there was nothing to pursue. The contact was concerned that there would be severe damage done to the bumper and wiring harness from the exhaust heat. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact was still awaiting a response from the manufacturer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000. The VIN was not available.

6 Bumper problem of the 2004 Toyota Highlander

Failure Date: 05/01/2010

The contact owns a 2004 Toyota Highlander. The contact stated while reversing from her driveway at relatively low speeds of 1 mph, the front bumper fractured from the vehicle. She further inspected the vehicle and found that the components that held the bumper to the vehicle were also broken. She contacted the dealer who referred her to the manufacturer.
