1 Warning Light On problem of the 2009 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 09/13/2016

My fiance' and I received a recall notice from Toyota for a safety recall to remedy the sprial cable that controls the airbag warning light. The recall notice told us to take the car to a Toyota dealership to have the car repaired free of charge. When we took the car for repair they said it had already been repaired and after checking with the manufacturer they stated it had been fixed on March 2, 2016 in NJ. The car was in maryland on that date under my ownership so we do not understand how they could have repaired the car. They want to charge us for the diagnostics and possibly the repair since they insist that the car was already repaired. We have an airbag warning light located on the instrument panel that will not go off. This warning light is the same light on the recall notice. Toyota does not want to fix it without a fee, and they believe they have already fixed the problem. The light remains on our car to date. We would like an investigation of this mater before seeking legal counsel to rectify the safety problem. The vehicle was parked when the light illuminated and does not go off while driving the car.

9 Warning Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 07/10/2014

Airbag recall and the "airbag warning light remains illuminated" started. My vehicle was not recalled in the 2003 2008 Toyota corolla airbag clock spring replacement recall. It was recalled for the drivers side airbag replacement and during that time the palo alto Toyota mechanic tried to fix the light but could not find the appropriate solution. Now my car is recalled for the replacement of the passenger side airbag and remains illuminated.

10 Warning Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 06/24/2014

The airbag warning light comes on most of the time. Dash electrical system is inconsistent -- clock sometimes works for example, but usually not. Blinkers sometimes don't work as well. Primary safety concern is the airbag system though. I've had several mechanics run diagnostics. Sometimes diagnostics come up clean and sometimes not. Spent $300+ without resolve and haven't heard since initial recall notice about a fix.

11 Warning Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

My vehicle is a 2005 Toyota Matrix xr. It has never been involved in a collision or impact in any way. At approx. 37000 miles, the srs warning light activate and was diagnosed as a faulty spiral cable/clockspring. The spiral cable was replaced which did eliminate the srs warning light. I now have 60500 miles on this vehicle and again the srs light has activated, and has again been diagnosed with a faulty spiral cable, the repair cost has now been estimated by my local Toyota dealer as $440. 71, and they have confirmed that the srs system will not function until the repair is made. I now have my 2 sons, new drivers, that use this car. I fear that even if I get this problem fixed, again, that it will again fail at some point while in use and put them at risk. I have owned many vehicles that have had srs systems, but this is the only time I've ever had a problem, let alone a repeat problem, with a specific component. In my research, it sounds like many other Toyota Matrix and other Toyota models in the same years of production are experiencing spiral cable/clockspring problems. This problem can effect the survivability of the occupants and truly concerns me. Thanks so much for considering my concerns.

12 Warning Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 04/21/2014

Srs warning light began to go on and off intermittently. Toyota dealer fixes by installing new clock assembly. Total cost $465. This assembly is an important part of the airbag system and is failing at a very high rate in these cars. I believe it is defective and should be part of a recall. Supposedly if the light is on the airbag is not functional.

13 Warning Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 03/27/2014

The air bag warning light remains on while the car is on. I was told the air bag would not function properly while the warning light is on. The Toyota dealer said the air bag wiring is shorting in the clock mechanism and clock parts need to be replaced for the air bag to work. Why do I need to fix the clock for this air bag to work?.

14 Warning Light On problem of the 2004 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 03/02/2014

My srs warning light has come on and not gone off. I found a recall has been issued for this but I have not received a recall notice. If I take my car to my dealer will I have to pay for this repair?.

15 Warning Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 01/13/2014

The Matrix began having various electrical problems, including engine warning lights turning off and on, airbag warnings, clock and headlights/brakelights turning off and on. We have brought it in to several mechanics for checks and various repairs, to no avail. Most recently, a dealer shop diagnosed that the ecm is likely failing, and in looking at the records from another dealer shop noticed that the ecm was on back order in 2011 to install a new one after a recall, but that a new one was never installed. However, my service records show that the first dealer shop told me (fraudulently?) that it was in fact installed. The car may not be safe to drive, but I have not been successful to this point in getting it repaired. The second shop informed me that the first dealer shop is responsible.

16 Warning Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 12/11/2013

Srs airbag warning light is going on and off, so is the clock. This has happened many times and I find that other owners of this vehicle are having the same problem. There seems to be a connection between the clock and the airbag system being tied together.

17 Warning Light On problem of the 2003 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 08/03/2013

Air bag warning light started flashing, received (airbag) recall notice as well from Toyota and made appointment for airbag recall fix. Toyota dealership said they fixed recall, but airbag light came back on shortly after recall fix. Took to dealer second time, dealer said there was a short to drivers side seat belt squib? squib works with air bag deployment and seat belt tensioner deployment. Dealer wanted to replace unit at my expense but I argued that this should be covered under a recall since it is part of a faulty air bag issue. Today I found an article on a consumer recall site that states that Toyota has acknowledged faulty circuits on 2003 -04 corolla and Matrix that are susceptible to shoring in airbag / tensioner wiring harness. The resulting heat could damage the components and cause the airbags and or seat belt pretensioners to malfunction, increasing risk of injury. The seat belt pretensioners are what is causing our airbag warning light according to Toyota dealership diagnostics. In the past I have gotten the run around by Toyota dealerships on this matter as well as our car will not pass upcoming state safety inspection. I am greatly concerned for my families safety concerning possible faulty deployment of the airbags or seat belt pretensioners not working in an accident. Please investigate and hold Toyota accountable to fix this very extremely important airbag / tensioner safety issue. Thank you.

The vehicle was taken back to dealer where a second diagnostic was performed. The failure was located at the air bag wiring harness. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 95,163 and the current mileage was 95,311.

19 Warning Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

Shortly after acquiring this car, the airbag warning light comes on sometimes and sometimes not. Toyota refuses to do anything to remedy this problem.

20 Warning Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 06/20/2012

Air bag warning light comes on intermittently. Took car to dealer and was told that the air bag system will not operate while the warning light is on. I was also told that the problem could not be diagnosed or fixed.

21 Warning Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

Our driver side srs airbag warning light has been intermittantly on for over a year. Sometimes it doesn't go out when the car is started and stays on while driving; other times it goes out like normal a few seconds after the car is started, but spontaneously comes on and stays on later while driving. Once it's on, I have to pull over and turn the ignition off, wait a few seconds, and then restart the car to get it to turn off. This is not always successful. The Toyota dealer was no help at all - couldn't find anything wrong, and said that I'd need to bring the car back when the light was actually on. Since the problem is inconsistant, I haven't been able to do that. I'm very afraid that someone in my family may be injured should we get in a collision, because I understand that if the light is on, the airbag is inoperable.

22 Warning Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 03/08/2012

About a year and a half ago the airbag warning light started to come on and off intermittently. I checked with the dealer and was offered to pay for a diagnostic. I decided to do research first and found a whole lot of other owners have this issue. Some have taken the car in for services including complete replacement of the airbag system and clock (which happens to have faulty circuit that can result in the warning light coming on and off intermittently. ) some have paid over $1k in service fees. I contacted Toyota about it. They are not looking to own up to this quality defect. It's not a wear and tear (vehicle age) issue. The culprit appears to be a component that cracks off the pcb on the clock. Someone has reported having re-soldered this component to eliminate the intermittent airbag light issue. When will Toyota recall?.

23 Warning Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 01/08/2010

The contact owns 2005 Toyota Matrix with 33,000 miles. The contact stated that the air bag warning light keeps coming on. The failure had occurred for six months, which meant that the air bags were disabled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the vehicles clock was the cause of the failure. The vehicle was repaired.

24 Warning Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 03/21/2009

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Toyota Matrix. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated constantly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who stated that the electrical wiring for the air bags failed. The airbag control module for the supplement restraint also needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 99,000. Kmj.

25 Warning Light On problem of the 2003 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 01/01/2009

We have been trying to resolve this safety issue for the last few years to no avail. This letter is in response to your 1/31/15 report the electronic components for the above named car. Toyota has been arguing that this problem is our responsibility and not theirs. But based on your latest report, it seems that we are correct in holding them responsible for repairing it. Over the last few years we have had this car into different Toyota dealers in response to air bag system electronic component recalls. To date our vehicle has not been prepared properly. The air bag warning light remains on, which leads to our concern that the air bag system is defective. The dealers and Toyota corporation indicate that this is not part of the recall, but we believe otherwise. If the recall was due to a faulty electronic component air bag system and the dealers were supposed to have repaired it, then why does it persist?? we believe Toyota is responsible for this problem and would like it repaired once and for all by Toyota, as it is a potentially dangerous safety issue and I do not want my family to become another fatality statistic.
