Toyota Matrix owners have reported 46 problems related to air bag light on (under the air bag category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
My 2008 Toyota Matrix was under recall since I was notified in October 2019. At that time I was told that my car was not safe to drive and I was provided with a rental car. My car was repaired with the Toyota air bag remedy on June 11, 2020 but it seems that the remedy has caused the cover to pop up and a crease is forming across the middle of the airbag cover. Also, the passenger airbag indicator light says off when a passenger seat is occupied. The passenger indicator light worked properly when I last drove my car in October of 2019.

Takata recall I had my passenger side airbag recalled and repaired. Now I am concerned that the driver side airbag light is continuing to stay lit. If the passenger side was recalled shouldn't the driver side also be recalled. They are both the same brand airbag. I haven't received a recall for the driver's side, but now that my airbag light for the driver's side is coming on and staying on I am very concerned. The dealership is telling me that they would have to put it on a diagnostic machine which will cost me $135. 00. If the driver side airbag is part of a recall that I haven't been notified of, why should I pay for diagnostic?.
The airbag indicator on my car lit up. I scheduled an appointment with Toyota to have it diagnosed, and they said that I needed a new spiral clock spring cable, which is part number 84306-02110. This is an expensive part, over $300. After doing some searching, I found out that 1) many other Toyota Matrix and corolla owners have had this issue and 2) there was a recall on this part for Toyotas of a slightly different make, model, and year. I believe that this part is defective, and that Toyota should cover the replacement cost, including labor.

The air bag light came on and it is a recall on the passenger air, but they are informing that it is nothing that can be done, until the another notice comes out and the parts are available for repair. This is a very big inconvenience and a disadvantage on the behalf of Toyota. The only solution Toyota suggest until the remedy or parts becomes available is that do not operate the vehicle with an occupant in the front passenger seat to ensure safety. I am very dissatisfied with Toyota and other measures should be taken in order to ensure safety of my vehicle.

Takata recall. Where to start. I received a letter in June 2015 about the recall. In December 2015 I filed a complaint with you because nothing was being done. Still nothing. In may 2016 my daughter received a letter also for the takata recall on her yaris with a letter saying not to let anyone ride in her front seat. Seriously? I was not told this. I could have killed someone or seriously injured them. (my daughter needs a rental btw because I doint want her driving her car till it is safe) when my dad found out he went to Toyota and guess what? suddenly they had the part for my car and ordered my daughters. They put it in yesterday. When I went to get my car I was informed that my passenger air bag light was on and that it needed a spiral assembly. For 476. 00. Right. They said it was not related or covered. I found a web page with sixty three people who had the exact same thing happen to them. Now both my airbag lights are on and my clock does not work. I dont have the money to fix this. It is causing me extreme stress as I take care of my elderly mom and my grand daughter. I believe it is related. God only knows how many others this hhas happened to. It can not be a coincidence. I feel another recall needs to be done as the did do one in canada but on adifferent model car. Cant remember. . . #nomoretoyotas.
Driver airbag light on. No crash or deployment of bag. My question: why should I pay to replace as must be a factory defect? is not on recall "im told". I do not feel I should have to replace this bag. Im told this is dangerous as could deploy.

The dealer was notified and indicated that they were been unable to replicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was not available.

The air bag light is on and will not go off. The media says that my model year is in the takata recall and my model is in the Toyota recall but only in the "high humidity region". I contacted a dealership and they said they couldn't do anything until Toyota caught up entering in the VIN numbers for the model years that were added to the recall. This is not safe, this is a malfunctioning part and this needs to be remedied.

I was driving at highway speed and my air bag light came on. It stay on constantly.
The airbag light comes on soon after starting and driving. It appears to come on when the clock quits working also.
Air bag (srs) started going on and off intermittently, then clock went on and off intermittently. Now clock rarely comes on. The ignition must be turned on and off several times to get the air bag light to go off. The vehicle was taken to a Toyota carmax dealer in laurel, MD. The rep said there was probably something under the seat, and found an empty water bottle. When the car was turned on, the light was gone, and he pronounced the car fixed. Two days later it came on again and has continued to come on and off randomly. The item under the seat story is bogus and only works because the ignition is turned on and off, not because items are under the seat. This is an obvious safety issue that needs to be fixed by Toyota. I am now reading many many other people have the same problem and Toyota will not recognize the issue.

The airbag light is always on in the 2005 Toyota Matrix . This is due to the spiral cable malfunction and there is no recall for this issue from Toyota. With this lights on the airbag wont get deployed if there is a front end collision and its a security issue.

Periodically this winter the air bag light would remain illuminated after starting. Often it would go away if you simply restarted the car. I attributed it to cold weather, but in light of Toyota's most recent recall (torrance, calif. , April 9, 2014 – Toyota motor sales, u. S. A. , inc. Today announced that it will conduct a voluntary safety recall involving approximately 1. 3 million vehicles, including certain model year 2009-2010 corolla, 2009-2010 Matrix, 2008-2010 highlander, 2009-2010 tacoma, 2006-2008 rav4 and 2006-2010 yaris vehicles. The driver’s airbag module in the involved vehicles is attached to a spiral cable assembly with electrical connections that could become damaged when the steering wheel is turned. If this occurs, the air bag warning lamp will illuminate. In addition, the driver’s air bag could become deactivated, causing it to not deploy in the event of a crash. ) I am left to wonder if the spiral cable assembly may be the issue with my 2006 Matrix.
The contact owns a 2005 Toyota corolla Matrix. While driving 30 mph, the air bag warning indicator illuminated on and off. The failure occurred on multiple occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
I already turned in an incident but did not get an e-mail or any reply back so am doing it again to make sure. My air bag light has been going on intermittently for 1. 5 years. I was told by Toyota that it would cost $180 to diagnose the problem and was never told that when my air bag light was on that my air bag would not go off. I recently found this out so had it checked out. Turns out it is a faulty clock. Toyota has the clock as an integral part of their air bags. I can't believe that they put my family at risk because of a clock. It cost me $560 to fix as well. There was never any assistance on Toyota's part to assist me, lower the cost. My clock by the way works perfectly fine and it took them 1. 5 hours to diagnose the problem.
