Air bag light comes on/off at diffrent times. I called Toyota 1-800-331-4331 customer service on 8/8/13. Was told my air bag warrenty was 5 yrs 60,000 miles. I then had 80,000 miles on the car. I now have 120,000 air bag light still comes on. I called my local Toyota dealer they said bring in would cost me 85 dollars to be diagnosed. I feel I shouldnt have to pay for the air bag I cannot control anything about it-there should be no 5 yr 60,000 miles warrenty on something I cannot change. Also my clock if barly viewable on my dash. I refuse to pay. I was told no other complaints about this issue have been reported. But I see by this site that it has been reported numerous times.
Airbag light is on all of the time. All 2005 Matrix seem to have the same problem. This means that in an accident no airbags. The cure for the problem is replacement of the- spiral cable clock spring.
Toyota Matrix RX 2005. Started car, driver air bag light failed to extinguish. Shut off ignition. Restarted engine, light went out. Since 6/3/2013 the driver air bag light has been intermittent, staying on about half the time I start the car. Often it takes 3 to 4 restarts to finally get the light to stay off. Occasionally the driver air bag light will come on while driving. I pull over when I can and go through the restart procedure. Otherwise while light is on the driver air bag is disabled. That could certainly be a deadly proposition. Several times I have visited Toyota service departments to be told, "something is loose", or "can't find a problem. " today, 6/17/2015, I drove to my local Toyota service department for the passenger air bag recall service. When I started the car the driver air bag light came on. I drove to the Toyota service dept, about 10 miles, left engine running until the service writer could verify that the light was on. I asked that they check the driver air bag system because the light came on intermittently. Approximately 15 min later the asst service mgr called me stated there was no problem with the driver air bag. I told him the writer verified the light was on and requested they do a diagnostic on the driver air bag system. $98. 55 later the problem was stated to be in the digital clock in the dash. Toyota quoted $506. 59 to replace the digital clock in my car to make the driver air bag function, so I wouldn't die in a crash!!! this just doesn't sound right that a life saving system should depend on a "cheap" digital clock to function correctly at any moment without peripheral equipment getting in the way. This should be a safety recall item.
Recently my air bag light started coming on intermittently. After searching Toyota/matrix forums, I have found the 2003-2008 Toyota Matrix has had numerous complaints regarding the air bag system. It is common for the clock to stop working, which cases the air bags to stop functioning properly. This also seems to be a common problem with the 2003-2008 corolla. I don't mind that my clock doesn't work; however, it is a safety issue if it is the cause of the air bag malfunction and Toyota should rectify the problem.
This is going to be the third time I have brought my vehicle back to boch Toyota norwood MA. The airbag light is on they reset few days later came back on brought vehicle back October 5, 2011 reset again. I brought the vehicle back on October 13,2011 thet told me that it could be the computer, wiring or the airbag assembly. I feel that there should be a recall correcting this situation.
The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Matrix. The contact stated that the air bag light was illuminated on the instrument panel on a consistent basis. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized dealer where they recoded the vehicle. The failure recurred a few days later. The vehicle was taken back to the authorized dealer where they were unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was notified and advised the contact to take the vehicle back to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Air bag light came on repeatedly over a period of months. On 17mar2011 Toyota dealer diagnosed two possible causes. . . Computer or clock assembly. Computer was replaced under extended warranty. Problem returned the next day. Clock was replaced on 30mar2011 under extended warranty. Problem seems to be solved as of 12jul2011.
2005 Toyota Matrix. Consumer states that the airbag system failed. Consumer sent in duplicate letter on 12/27/2010. The consumer stated the air bag light would illuminate intermittently. The consumer stated he paid $ 114. 19 to diagnose and fix the problem by recalibrating the air bag system. The problem returned a few days later. The consumer then paid $ 559. 42 to replace the air bag sensor assembly. The problem returned weeks later. The last repair was in the amount in $ 352. 36 for the clock spring assembly.
Driver-side air bag warning indicator is intermittent sometimes on , sometimes off. This seemed to start after the 3-yr warranty expired. Back then, I mentioned it to a dealer while in for a separate recall repair and the dealer suggested maybe I had stuff under or on the passenger side chair which could trigger the indicator. I never paid for them to check the car. Indicator goes on/off regardless of passenger/objects on the seat. Both front seats do not have stuff beneath them. More recently, clock illumination fades in and out, mostly out. This seemed to start no more than 3 yrs ago. Car has still has original airbags and clock. I'm afraid that my air bags won't deploy during an accident. I'm angry that my car wasn't included in the recent recalls.
My air bag light came on two years after I bought the car and stays on. With so many recalls on defective takata airbags that were installed on many vehicles including Toyota, I suspect that my vehicle is one of them. I have been patiently waiting for a rcall notice from the Toyota manufacturer, so they can fix it, but so far, nothing can somebody in your office help to resolve this problem. I do not want to find out if this air bag works or not and get seriously hurt me and my family, god forbid, I get into an accident. Any help you can provide me is better than none, so please help! thanks!.
