1 Brake Grinding Noise problem of the 2019 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 06/18/2020

Was at drive through cash machine, stopped, put into park, did my transaction, put car into drive left to get to street via a side street. Noted at stops that the brakes were hard as when abs is not quite right. On a town street, two pedestrians stepped out into my lane of travel. I put on my brakes, hard. The engine rev'd and continuted faster and I kept my foot on the brake, the women got out of the lane. I really don't recall sequence, I was terrified (have had a car run away with me long ago). But I do know it was rev'ing hard, I was so terrified I did not note if any dash lights were on, or what the tach (?) was doing. Rav was in drive, I pushed lever to n and finally to park and the engine was shut down. I had pulled to the side of the street, so fired it up, and it was 'normal' brakes no longer hard. I cautiously pulled out into the lane and made it to the Toyota dealer. It tried one more time to do a rev when I put the brakes on, but not like that first time as I immediately turned it off and put into neutral/park. Toyota service person showed concern and drove the rav around for about 10 minutes and could not get it to repeat this. He thinks maybe I should have the shop bypass the automatic stop engine thing, permanently but there's not longer a way to do in newer ravs. So pushed the a button to turn it off and fear driving it. Service man was going to call me back if he comes up with anything. He may not recall the unintentional engine revs of a few years ago in Toyotas, which caused accidents and deaths. It was not the floor mats I only have the rubber ones, 'bolted down". First few weeks after purchase rav made bearing-like grinding noises when the auto stop was turned off so turned it back on. When a on or off, vehicle jerks coming to a stop and when moving forward after a stop. Car has <4000 miles. Bought new.

2 Brake Grinding Noise problem of the 2018 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 11/25/2018

Since the car was purchased on 11/25/2018, the front brakes creak while on drive and the car pulls to the left. I took it to the dealership and they said nothing was wrong with the brakes. They asked that I wait untill 500 miles to look at the alignment. I took it in again for the brakes and the service manager sat in the car and he heard the brake noise. He ran it through tests and said nothing was found. He was going to wait for a Toyota representative to come and then they would look at it before anything was done. It is now April and they still have not addressed the brake issue. They did adjust the alignment during the time, but it still pulls to the left. After the alignment, there was a sliding grinding noise on the left front brake. The noises occur when you come to a stop and release the brakes. Both issues have been present since the car was purchased have not been resolved.

5 Brake Grinding Noise problem of the 2016 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 01/19/2017

I bought this car brand new. After 1 month I started noticing a grinding sound when I would apply my brakes, only if I was driving slowly. 2 months later I started hearing a grinding noise as if metal was grinding on metal and this would happen intermittently regardless of how fast I was driving and occasionally I would hear it when I was completely stopped as well. I went to the dealership and they told me the rotors had developed "hot spots" and that this was likely caused by slamming on the brakes or cruising while my foot was on the brakes. I had a 2009 Nissan cube for 7 years and drove the same way and never once had a problem with my brakes in that time period or even had to service/replace them. Even if this issue is caused by the way I am driving, my car is not even 3 months old and rotors should not be wearing down that quickly. Thankfully no safety issues occurred as a result of this but I imagine if something like this is not addressed it can certainly affect brake function which would result in an accident.

6 Brake Grinding Noise problem of the 2011 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 12/19/2013

2011 Toyota Rav4 brakes have not much stopping power. Brake pedal has to be pressed very hard. At low speed around 5-10 mph, the front brakes make grinding noise. Car was at the dealership three times, mechanic test drove car, heard the noise and said could not find anything wrong with the brakes. The braking power of Rav4 is significanly less than the other cars. Brake filling and performance is inconsistent. When I drove 2015 Toyota corolla, 2014 Honda civic, 2012 Honda crv, 2014 Hyundai elantra, 2014 Nissan altima, 2013 Mazda 3, 2014 chevy malibu, 2014 chevy malibu, 2014 Hyundai tucson, 2015 Chrysler 300 and other cars, when start driving my 2011 Toyota Rav4 I feel this car cannot stop. Brake performance of 2011 Toyota Rav4 is poor and inconsistent. As a separate issue when I park a car for a week at the airport, there is so much rust accumulated on brake rotors, that the car is shaking during braking. Shaking typically dissapears after two days of driving, but the rottors are still pitted.

7 Brake Grinding Noise problem of the 2009 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

To begin, my car has already had the Toyota recall "fix" and should have been fine. I was driving my Toyota Rav4 (2009) and approaching a four way stop. When I went to hit the brakes, there was a slight grinding noise. The car slowed a bit but did not stop and kept on moving through the stop sign. I ended up going through the intersection (luckily no one was coming) and coming to a stop almost 50 feet past. My husband drove the car home and we later took it to the dealer (no other incidents then). The dealer inspected the brakes and acceleration but could not find a cause. They kept the car for several days but ended up returning it to us and saying it is fine, as they could not find a specific cause to this incident. I am 8 months pregnant, and currently will not drive the car until I can be reassured this will not happen again.

8 Brake Grinding Noise problem of the 2007 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 06/20/2009

I own a Toyota 2007 Rav4 which as been in the dealerships shop over 10 times for the same two issues brakes and grinding noise, per Toyota each time it was different, but I know it was the same two things. It's like Toyota is falsifying customers car issues with their own words instead of making proper documentation. It started off with the brakes when I first purchased the car they were making a noise and when going over speed bumps the car would accelerate instead of stopping, but I thought this may be an added feature to the new car. The first real incident is when the car would not stop and I crashed into to a side rail. It didn't do much damage and it total about $400. 00. The car is making a metallic noise in the suspension and this was reported, but each and every time Toyota's techs drives with me and my husband while we driving the car to duplicate the noise Toyotas techs said this noise was normal. We knew this noise wasnt normal behavior of a brand new car, I took it to another auto shop and they verified that the noise was in the suspension system, that Toyota would need to address the issue because the car was still under warranty, and it would cost me money to locate the noise. When I told Toyota they said they give a car until they could find the issue, by letting their field tech look at the car, and I asked when this tech would be available. I wanted to see this person look at the car, but they came up with a million and one reasons that I could meet with the tech? after talking to people from their corp office about the metallic noise and the brakes Toyota said, since we can't find anything wrong with the car its under warranty so if something happens it will be fixed. What I dont understand is why should I have to wait for this car to kill me or my family for the company to look at their faults because all we did was purchased a car from the top of the line auto makers to get this kind of treatment?.
