1 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2019 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 11/01/2019

1st incident: sitting at stop light for a few mins as normal. When time to accelerate, the vehicle started lurching forward in a hard jerking motion. 2nd incident: slower traffic. When driving in slower traffic or at slower speeds, ~20-35mph the vehicle will start lurching jerking forward. Took back to dealership for inspection, there were no issues found. Dealership reset internal computer, stating that "vehicle is operating normally". Neither has issue has yet to cause an accident with any other drivers at this time. I do travel with dogs who are harnessed and seat-belted in the backseat, they would have been thrown to floor of car if not seat-belted. For myself, I get tossed forward several inches and head thrown forward. When driving in slower traffic and/or stop and go traffic, the car lurching/hard jerking forward will eventually cause an accident. All incidents have happen on dry city streets. I would assume during these incidents of the jerking forward that the break lights do not alert rear drivers that the car is in a stop/go motion.

3 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2007 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 12/06/2017

My car burns massive amounts of oil. I get regular changes at goodyear. I took it in to Toyota wolfchase memphis for not 1 but 2 recalls and asked about the amount of oil it was burning. They informed me this vehicle per VIN# had a warranty enhancement on it b/c piston does not sit properly and that is why the large consumption of oil. They also informed me I was "too late" that it expired 5/6 months prior. I made them aware I was not notified of any warranty enhancement and they said their hands were tied. Nothing they, Toyota service dept. Could do. I called Toyota and a rep said it was not the law to legally notify me of the warranty enhancement since I was not original owner. After much disagreement I asked for a supervisor who called me back and informed me legally there was nothing I could do and they could not help me with the bill if I got this piston fixed. I asked her if the original owner was notified bc I could not imagine not getting it fixed. I said this one model has so many recalls! it is a lemon. Then again she explained they could do nothing. She never stated if the original owner was notified. (this was one owner car) I am now using about 7 qts of oil per 5k miles. Yeap 7 quarts. I began buying in 5 gallons and writing mileage on the bottle before I add any. (it was 3 per 5k and has increased to the latest high of 7 in the 2 yrs. Since I purchased. I am an older driver and baby this vehicle. At the date I found out about the piston under warranty enhancement I was in for 2 recalls!!! seat belt and rear suspension! Toyota said if I had my oil changed there, I would have been notified of warranty enhancement?? but I was too late. This was 12/6/17.

4 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2008 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 04/01/2016

There are have been 6 recalls to date since we purchased 2008 Rav4. Most recently, seatbelts were deemed unsafe in the rear, where we harness our children's carseats. This was in April 2016, and we have yet to be contacted about a remedy. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to push for a fix to this situation. We are frustrated that this car is a lemon, but not according to law, since the recalls are rolled out over the course of the last 6-8 years.

6 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2006 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 08/27/2013

This is my story: my wife, yorkie, and I went to pick up my son at preschool early this afternoon in weston, FL when all of the sudden we hear a brief whine noise followed by the check engine and oil lights on on the panel; the engine shut itself off. I was able to pull to the side of the road but the car was difficult to drive. I cranked the engine on again and was able to drive for another 100 yards. The same whine noise followed by the same lights and engine shut off. Afterwards, the engine would turn on and it immediately would shut off; not a chance to engage to drive and move an inch. I looked at the engine compartment and there was nothing unusual; the oil level was fine (the car has never had a leak and has been properly maintained), no funny smells, etc. By this time we were sweating and getting concerned. I thought it could be that the a/c could be part of the problem since it adds load to the engine serpentine belt; I turned off the a/c by depressing the a/c button on car's dash and the engine stayed on. I was able to drive the car and pick up my son thankfully. I was ready to send my wife on a cab to get him. My questions to you guys are the following: why would Toyota design the engine to shut itself off in a situation when something in the a/c fails? if my wife would have been in the highway with my son and had the engine shut off, she would have completely freaked out and god forbid in an accident. All I can think of is that Toyota implemented a mechanism to kill the engine if the load in the serpentine belt is excessive. Yes, good to prevent engine damage, but I value my family's and my life more. The engine should not shut off. . . That is why you have warning lights and other safety mechanisms.

7 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2004 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 06/01/2009

On June 1, 2009 I was driving my 2004 Toyota Rav4 with 121k miles when all of a sudden the temperature gauge went hot, the check engine light & vsc trac light came on. Discovered coolant level was low. Took to dealer next morning who quoted me a "head gasket" repair for $1500 out of pocket because warranty expired. After a month of not driving it (to come up with funds for repair), I returned to dealer on July 1, 2009. Dealer advised after taking it apart that the head gasket was leaking and the bolts were "stripped" and I also needed a new engine block which would run about $6,000+. I had never had any other problems with my vehicle until this incident & completed general maintenance regularly. Dealer called Toyota warranty who agreed to pay for engine block (parts & labor for everything below the head) but that I still had to pay the original quote of $1500 for the head gasket, water pump & s belt. I have found several complaints with same exact problem, obviously since Toyota agreed to pay for part of this they know something is defective but will not make a recall. I feel they owe me the head gasket repair as well since it is all part of the same problem and will file a product complaint with Toyota.

8 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2002 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 05/18/2009

I purchased a new 2002 Toyota rav 4 in 2002. Last year, a few years after the purchase date, Toyota had a recall for the check engine light. I took it back to the dealer and the light was fixed. Maybe a year or two after, the light began to come on and has stayed off and on for years. Last year, my truck began to "hesitate" while driving and finally it began to stop all together. I took it to a transmission shop and an air conditioner belt was replaced and the agent told me that he could not find a problem with it. For a day or two, I had no problems with the truck. But shortly after, the problem came back and I was stuck without transportation. I was told it was a $2,500 computer engine problem. I do not have that kind of money. So, I had to rent a car. My insurance would not pay rentals. Externally, it is a beautiful truck, even today. But, internally, it completely let me down. When I purchased my truck, I thought I was getting a dependable truck that would last for years after it was paid off. I paid off the car in January of this year and it is sitting in front of my house. How bad can this get? my truck has over 140,000 miles which according to my research, exceeds warranty dates. If the repair cost is high, I will have no other choice but to try to sell the truck. I went out and bought an american made used car the other day. It cannot compare with my Toyota when it was in good condition. Now I am back in debt again. This time I got a three year warranty. To make a long story short, I am so disappointed in the Toyota Rav4 trucks. According to the web, a lot of us are.

9 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2003 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 11/26/2004

While driving to san antonio on 11-26 2004 my Toyota Rav4 just lost power and shut off while in heavy traffic on I-37 I pulled over and it started right up. I've taken the vehicle in on three other occasions and have been told that nothing wrong could be found with the vehicle. On 11-28-04 about two blocks from my home on the return trip from san antonio it did it again once again I pulled over and it started right up. I feel that this could be very dangerous and life threatening and I don't think that the Toyota company is taking this problem seriously.

10 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2002 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 07/12/2004

I purchased a 2002 Toyota Rav4. SUV. And within the first six months of owning it, my drive belt broke and almost caused me to wreck and hit three other vehicles. I had my new car towed back to the dealership where I had purchased the vehicle and they told me that the drive belt was not covered under my warranty. A few months later I noticed that my transmission was making a weird grinding sound and was hard to shift. Sometimes the car would not shift and it would come to a complete stop and this almost caused me to wreck via hitting other vehicles or other vehicles hitting me. I took it to my dealership and told them that they had sold me a lemon and I wanted to know if they would give me another Rav4, that is dependable. They told me no. I let the rav 4 sit in my garage for two years and my brother-in-law said that if he could find a used transmission from a wrecked vehicle then he would install it in my rav 4. He found a transmission and I had to pay in cash $1,300. 00 for the transmission and I gave him $400. 00 to install the transmission. Recently I found out that Toyota has recalled 2001, 2002 and 2003 Toyota Rav4 SUV's for transmission problems. I contacted the Toyota sales USA about their recalls of my vehicle and they told me that they were not going to do anything for me. I feel that Toyota should reimburse me for the cost of buying a used transmission and for paying to have the transmission put in my Rav4suv. Please advise.

11 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2003 Toyota RAV4

12 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2002 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 07/07/2003

On July 7, 2003 I was on my way to work when the battery discharge light came on and I had no steering capability. I was travelling about sixty miles per hour on the interstate. I almost hit the median divider before I could steer the vehicle to the side of the road. I called the dearlership and explained what had happened. They told me to have the vehicle towed in, they didn't even offer to have it towed. Incidentally this is a new vehicle with less than 1100 miles on it and I had only driven the vehicle about one week before the above happened. The dealership kept my vehicle for two days and I went to get my Rav4 and asked what had happened. The service manager said that the drive belt pulleys had not been properly installed on my new Rav4 and that caused the drive belt to come off of the pulleys and broke the tensioner and the housing guide. I took the car home and the next morning, the new Rav4 would not start. I jumped srtarted the Rav4 from my wifes vehicle and let it run for about fifteen minutes thinking that the battery just needed a charge. My wife was going to use the neew Rav4 vehicle that day to shop. She called me about mid-morning and informed me that the new Rav4 vehicle would not start as she had gone to the mall. That evening my wife and I went to the mall and jum started the vehicle agin and I finally got it home and it is now in my garage, it just will not start. I called and talaked to the service director about all of the problems that I was having with my new Rav4 SUV. He equated my break-downs to going to the store and buying a box of four light bulbs and taking the light bulbs home and putting a new light bulb in a lamp that had a burned out light bulb and when the lamp is turned on then the new light bulb burns out. This really made me angry. I told him that there was big difference in a fifty cent light bulb and a $25,000. 00 new vehicle with only 1100 miles on it.
