The contact owns a 2021 Toyota Rav4. The contact stated while the vehicle was stationary, there was an abnormally loud grinding sound coming from the engine. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to cabe Toyota (2849 long beach blvd, long beach, CA 90806, (562) 595-7411) where it was diagnosed with nothing needing to be replaced. The contact stated that the dealer replaced the battery however, the failure persisted. The contact related the failure to an unknown recall. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000.

2 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2020 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 08/04/2020

New 2020 Rav4 hybrid makes loud grinding noise sometimes when placed in reverse and ev mode is engaged. Appears to be failure of sprag-type device to disengage engine or transmission from electric drive system. Multiple members of frank Toyota service declared it to be normal and refused to make any written entries evidencing the complaint. They claimed I was mistaken when I pointed out that it did not begin until the vehicle had approximately 600 miles on it.

3 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2002 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

The contact owns a 2002 Toyota Rav4. While driving approximately 55 mph, the contact heard a grinding sound coming from the front end of the vehicle followed by the vehicle stalling. The vehicle was towed to the contacts home and was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The contact had previously taken the vehicle to the dealer for a similar failure where the technicians replaced the flywheel. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 128,000.
