As I was driving on a highway going straight with a speed of approx. 60 mph, I heard a strange engine noise. I saw the oil pressure light flickering and then I exited the highway, parking on a nearby street. I checked the oil and the dip stick was dry. My car was towed to a auto shop. The first shop ( not Toyota) determined the oil leak was from the oil filter cap o-ring which part of it flatten and extended out causing a large amount of oil to leak out. The second shop( not Toyota) who did the last oil change ( unknown brand of filter kit used) replaced the original plastic oil filter cap with an after market metal one and refilled approx. 3 quarts of oil. I was never told what caused this problem with the oil filter cap o-ring. Since then the car has been running fine but I'm concerned this might happen again.

2007 Toyota Rav4, on sat August 26th we were driving from madison WI to milwaukee WI on i94. Just shortly before we reached johnson creek the car made a strange noise and then the noise went away. As we were driving past johnson creek the engine made a pop sound and I lost power and I coasted to a stop along the side of the freeway. I noticed smoke or steam coming from the engine compartment, I opened the hood and there was a fire in the engine compartment. I removed some items in the car and my wife called 911. By the time the johnson creek fire department arrived the rav 4 was completely engulfed in fire. The car was a complete loss.

Bad acceleration, engine will not pick up fast, if I try to accelerate engine sounds high, the car will not pick up the speed up for few seconds and it jumps in the track. All engine lights came, vehicle lost the power and I lost control over the vehicle,I had to stop in freeway and call tow truck. This car burns oil so fast every 1000 miles I have to put new oil on this car.
Recently I was driving my 2014 Rav4 near downtown tampa on adamo drive and was taking a left turn, and suddenly I heard some kind of noise and felt like my vehicle went dead without any electrical power and it started reversing on it's own and spun to right. Fortunately since I was taking a turn I was hardy at a speed of about 10 mph and hence my front right passenger side door & head light etc. Got damaged and there was a very minimal damage to the front fender on the driver side of the vehicle behind our Rav4. For the same reason none of us - either myself, my front CO-passenger or the driver of the vehicle behind our Rav4 were physically hurt and were very safe after this incident. The driver of the vehicle behind our Rav4 informed that he heard a kind of strange sound and saw our Rav4 reversing & turning right, and he moved away into the right lane. The police officer, who has come also informed that she has come across this kind of incidents with Toyota vehicles recently, and did not give me citation after reviewing my incident free driving record and also she could not find reason for this freak incident which looks more like a mechanical defect of my Rav4, and advised to take to Toyota dealer for further investigation & resolution. On further research we found that there is a serious recall - "electrical power assist system" (eps) for 2014 Rav4 which was identified & documented by Toyota on 03/13/2015 but was not notified to the customers. We have contacted Toyota company, complained about this incident, informed the recall and we are waiting for a response from Toyota after a thorough investigation, computer data analysis from our Rav4. I am herewith attaching the documentation for the recall. I am very much worried & concerned about this incident, since it is of very serious safety issue. Please review and reply as soon as possible. Thank you in advance.

While stopped at a light waiting to turn left the Rav4 engine began to rev and lurched forward with driver's foot still on the brake. Driver put car into neutral while holding down the brake pedal to prevent the car hurtling into the intersection. Driver then turned off the car and put gear shift to park. After 30 seconds restarted the car with foot on brake and the engine began to rev again with car in park. The engine noise was very loud. Car was again turned off. Car was restarted after about 2-3 minutes and engine behaved normally. Owners took car to Toyota dealer within an hour of the incident. Toyota dealership ran diagnostic and manager said driver had foot on the accelerator when it happened which is certainly not true. Dealer would not release a copy of the diagnostic report. Owners have had all recall work done on the vehicle and have done regular maintenance as required in the owner manual.

I was driving along and came to a stop. When I started to go, my rav had no power, then it lurched and almost stopped. I had to nurse it-slowly accelerate-in order for it to move. Every time I stopped and started it did this. Once it made a noise like a hard shift from the rear of the car. I had to put my emergency flashers on to drive it safely, and drove to a transmission shop. In speaking with them, they said that Toyota has a known recall on this situation! the computer locks up the transmission. They called Toyota and gave them my VIN, it has not been replaced. Its going to cost anywhere from $1500 to $5000 to fix, depending on if the transmission is actually messed up or if it is the computer causing the problem. He has to pull the transmission to check it first. If it is the computer they said about $1000. Who do I contact to get reimbursed for this recall? when I put my VIN number in your site, it says there are no known recalls. The internet says differently. I need help!.

My car has been making more noise than usual. The engine sounded like it was always revving up, even in a parked position. I took it in to be looked at and they opened up the engine and said that there was metal on metal and metal in the pan (I really don't understand these terms). Overall, it needs a new engine!!!!! how can a 6 year old car with 94,000 miles need a new engine! it is worth nothing it I don't put a new engine in it! seems like I'm not the only one with this problem, but not sure how to get help.
Transmission developed an annoying whine from 40 to 60 mph. Very distracting while driving because of the high pitch noise it makes inside the cabin. Big disappointment!.
My rav 4 - 57348 miles. It started making a tapping sound in the engine and it has makes a metal on metal vibration upon acceleration and especially when I make a gradual left turn and decelerate. I brought it into the dealer. They say it may be that the lifters are a bit worn and that this will not harm anything. This is odd because a new engine was placed in the car at 49,000 + miles. They could not identify what the vibration noise was and said that it is possibly a rock in the brake system. I know what that sounds like and strongly disagree with their analysis. The noise is definitely coming from the engine.
