Was going a route that we do daily, and thankfully it was a backroad and no one was walking. Was coming up to a turn and pressed the brake but the car accelerated. 100% sure I pressed the brake! I couldn't steer the car and lost the brakes. Thankfully a tree stopped the car. Airbags deployed, windshield cracked, all 4 tires popped.

While driving on or around 6/5/25, an active recall on my vehicle caused damage to my battery connections causing my vehicle to completely shut off while driving on an highway exit ramp. I almost lost complete control of the vehicle. Thankfully, the vehicle turned back on and I was able to get the vehicle to safety. I had to get the car towed and repaired. The repair was directly related to the damage from an active recall issue being open without remedy for over 3 years on my vehicle. When I asked Toyota for reimbursement of under $200 they refused. This is a safety issue beyond the recall and I am concerned this is going to happen to someone else and there are going to be deaths. Toyota needs to stand by their recall too and may the financial aspect correct with me. Other members of the public need to be aware of the issues beyond their recall that can affect their cars and that Toyota is requiring them to be responsible for the damage that was caused while waiting on a remedy to the recall.

The recall (manufacturer recall # 23tb13; NHTSA recall # 23v734) has been un-repaired since 1 Nov 2023. The un-repaired recall did not cause a safety issue in this case, but I have moved to canada and the recall has prevented me from registering and using the vehicle (it is not possible to complete the import process or register any vehicle that has an outstanding recall).

My vehicle Toyota Rav4 hybrid 2020 began lost power and jerk on highway driving and then following messages appeared: hybrid system malfunction, a malfunction in electronic control of engine, throttle or automatic transmission has been detected and check engine light. This happened in September 2024. Toyota dealership replaced the low fuel pressure sensor a after my complaint and vehicle diagnostic, but it did not help. I recently had the same problem while driving on the highway for a long distance.
Impact is to software. Apple car play is malfunctioning. Will not allow bluetooth calls while apple car play is active. Phone will continue to ring on screen however, and will not be able to take call handsfree while driving. Call will not allow communication from driver to caller, only can hear caller. Concerns have been ongoing since may.
Bought a 2024 rav 4 on oct 4 ,2024. Has a little over two thousand miles in it now. On two different occasions the vehicle has lurched pulled forward while I was sitting stopped foot on the brake. The first incident I was stopped at a stop sign waiting to enter a highway. All of a sudden the motor revved up and vehicle began lurching forward the brake I was pushing on would not stop the vehicle. I was dragged from the stop sign to the highway. I had to turn the key off to stop the vehicle. The second incident was about a week later. I was stopped at a red light. Foot again on the brake. Suddenly the engine began to rev up and lurching against the brake. I immediately turned the engine off this time. Finally got the vehicle towed to postoak Toyota in midwest city where I purchased it. Postoak had told me three different times that I would have to to pay the tow fee or drive the unsafe vehicle to them. About an hour and a half drive. Finally triple aaa said I was covered through postoak. Had vehicle towed on may 31 2025. On June 3,2025 I was informed by a postoak mechanic there was nothing found wrong with my vehicle. I was informed the vehicle has a start stop feature and letting my foot off brake when stopped would cause a small lurch. What happened to me twice in the rav 4 was no small lurch. Literally dragging me with my foot squarely on the brake. I drove an escape for six years which had the same start stop feature. Never did the escape lurch forward.
Driving on the interstate highway when the sunroof glass just shattered. Luckily the cover was closed so no one was hit by the glass. Cars behind me could have been hit by flying glass. I have heard of this happening in the 2021 rav 4's. The sunroof was looked by a Toyota dealership and they didn't say anything about it, only saying it was not covered under warranty. There not indications of cracking or any else prior to the shattering.

I was driving down the highway alone at speed limit, with no traffic in front of me. My sunroof, which was closed, exploded without warning. It was literally like a gun going off when this occurred. I curled up in a ball in my seat but did not jerk the steering wheel. The interior of the car was covered in small and larger glass shards. I stopped to examine the damage and found that the sunroof had exploded up like it had been under some kind of pressure. Later, when I arrived at my destination, I found many accounts online of the same "explosion" occurring in the 2021 rav 4 hybrid model like mine. In addition to the reported incidents, I found this; "is there a problem with the sunroof in the 2021 Toyota Rav4? there certainly is a problem with the 2021 Toyota Rav4 sunroof. Multiple owners of 2021 Toyota Rav4s, including the hybrid and prime, have complained to the national highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA). They say their sunroofs (or moonroofs) explode spontaneously without any impact. When this happens, the glass shatters, which is a safety issue. However, Toyota appears to be disregarding the issue. There are several reports by owners stating that dealers refuse to help. Instead, they tell them to contact their insurance companies. " it seems there was a class action lawsuit filed or being put together in 2023 but I do not know the status or result. I have exhausted talks with Toyota after paying $600 for their defective glass to be replaced. They refuse to accept responsibility. This is incredibly dangerous because of the explosion that occurs and because of the tiny slivers of glass that could blind the occupants. I question how many accidents may have actually occurred because of the blast and/or the flying glass shards. A normal reaction would be to jerk the wheel and its a surprise that I didn't. Now I am $600 out of pocket for replacing defective glass and have zero assurance that this won't occur again in the future. Thanks for your help.

There is a water accumulation problem in the doors. This could potentially cause some rot from the inside out causing electrical to fail or metal to rust and cause the affected door(s) to not open correctly. No warning lights came on or anything on the dashboard.
The recall (NHTSA recall # 23v734) has been un-repaired since 1 Nov 2023. The un-repaired recall did not cause a safety issue in my case, but I have moved to canada and the recall has prevented me from registering and using the vehicle for the last for the past year (it is not possible to complete the import process or register any vehicle that has an outstanding recall).
Sunroof leaks during rain events. If this continues to be a problem can cause rust, mildew and mold issues which can lead to respiratory issues. This was noted by the dealership today as well.

While raining, noticed smoke coming from under the hood, engine seemed as if it didn’t have any power. Car shut off. While attempting to restart I seen a message in dashboard that said engine stopped: steering power low. Took a while to get car cranked again after multiple attempts. Message in dashboard disappeared after multiple attempts to restart nor is there a message in remote application health status section.

Enter water when open doors after to rain. All the doors. Dealer in puerto rico not resolver problem.
Faulty coolant valve and Toyota says that it is not covered/part of a recall. However, many vehicles are experiencing this issue so this seems like a widespread problem that Toyota is not taking responsibility for.
I drive through heavy rain for about 20 miles and I got to my mom’s house, put the car in park for about 5 minutes, when I get back in the car the car shut off when I put it in drive and was smoking. Now it will not crank up.
Vehicle information: year/make/model: 2022 Toyota Rav4 le VIN: [xxx] owner: [xxx] summary of problem: water is building up inside the doors of my 2022 Toyota Rav4 le. I purchased this vehicle brand new, and I’ve had several problems back-to-back. When I took the car to the Toyota dealership, the service technician told me this is a known issue with Rav4 models and may be caused by clogged drain holes inside the doors. This is a serious concern because the trapped water can lead to rust, mold, and electrical damage. I bought a platinum extended warranty, but the dealership said this issue is not covered. I’m very frustrated because I maintain this car properly and expect better quality from Toyota, especially when the defect is known. Toyota has a technical service bulletin (t-sb-0084-21 rev1) about this problem, but no recall has been issued. I believe this is a design flaw and could turn into a safety hazard if the water affects electronics or mold forms inside the car. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Coolant bypass valve the problem has been confirmed by the dealer warning: engine maintenance required.
I went to start my car , the engine turned off stating power steering low engine off . Then tried again and got more errors likes brake engaged power off also the lane monitor was not working.
The glass panel of my 2021 Toyota Rav4 sunroof blew out, shattering explosively, sounded like a rifle shot going off, into hundreds of pieces of small bits of glass while traveling on a smooth interstate highway with no other vehicles in close proximity. If the interior solid panel had not been closed, I would have been showered with all the small glass particles while traveling at 65 mph. I have not been able to reproduce the shattering of the glass. I did not go to the dealer because there is hardly anything left to examine. I have read the failure of Toyota sunroofs have been reported on other models previously. The damaged sunroof has only been examined by a body shop to do an estimate of the cost of the repair. There was no warning, or symptoms of the impending failure of the glass. The vehicle only has about 22, 500 miles of use.
The coolant valve is malfunctioning and causing an engine safety light to be on constantly.
The steering warning light comes on in stopped traffic. It goes back off after starting to drive again. I have had the car checked 2 times and everything checks out fine with no error codes. It also says voltage abnormally steering power low when the warning light comes on. The battery power was also checked at the auto shop and is fine. It has happened multiple times over the past couple months.
I bought my car in the end of November 2024, and in April 2025 which is less than 5 months and the car's been driven less than 2,000 miles, I noticed the black plastic parts of my car in the front have been melting. This is a defect in the material composition. I see a good amount of other people sharing their similar melting experience on online platforms. When I brought the car and shown pictures to a local Toyota service center, Toyota says it's due to solar convergence. I also called Toyota corporate, and they told me it's not my fault. But they're not helping me fix the issue and repair my car. This should be under warranty. I just bought my car. I do not live somewhere with hot weather. It doesn't make sense, and it isn't acceptable for the car's plastic material on the outside to be melting like this. It's a safety concern that my car parts are melting.
Several malfunction warnings (pre-collision system malfunction, awd malfunction, engine malfunction, parking brake malfunction) as well as several warning lights appeared on my dash. Took vehicle to a Toyota dealership for repairs. Fuel pump was replaced. Drove car a few days later and all the same warnings and lights came back on and this time the vehicle stalled in the middle of the road while driving. Was able to restart but had as soon as vehicle was stopped it would stall. Had to restart the vehicle several times while driving 2 miles just to get it home.
"engine maintenance required. Visit your dealer" prompt after turning on air conditioning. Message of engine coolant bypass valve circuit short to battery or open upon diagnostic test.
At the beginning of April, 2025, Toyota began sending unrequested solicitations to subscribe to its “connected services” to the multimedia display in the center of the dashboard of the Rav4. Those solicitations take over the entire screen and prevent any other use of the display until the driver takes affirmative steps to dismiss the solicitation. They also interrupt the connection between an iphone and the display, which requires the driver to completely reset the connection between the iphone and the display. It can take up to five or six separate steps to click through additional screens, in different locations on each screen, before the display returns to its original state. This is particularly dangerous when the prior use of the display was for navigation, as the map cannot be returned to without going through those screens and presses. The steps required to remove these unwanted solicitations create a materially dangerous likelihood of distracted driving. I have never at any time given Toyota permission to send me these unwanted and intrusive electronic message solicitations, and I have explicitly revoked any and all such permissions which Toyota might claim were created by my purchase and. Or operation of the vehicle. I request that an inquiry be opened and that the inquiry determine that Toyota's forced interruption of the operation of a vehicle such as my Rav4 is a safety defect and that Toyota be ordered to discontinue its dangerous practice.
