37 Suspension Noise problem of the 2008 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 09/03/2012

Loud noise from back of car and then right rear suspension collapsed causing me to loose steering control of vehicle. No other cars around, road was straight and level with just grass to the side. Brakes still work so car was brought to stop as it went by itself to the right. This is a one owner car that was never abused or off-roaded. Car was taken by flatbed to local Toyota dealer who replaced the right rear inner/outer tie rods at no cost and gave me a free car wash. ## VIN passed ## Toyota, Rav4, 2008 ##.

38 Suspension Noise problem of the 2008 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 06/14/2012

After my car received the first recall service (early 2014) for the rear suspension, about 5000 miles later I began to hear noises at freeway speeds from the passenger rear tire area. Not long after this noise started, I received the (mailed from Toyota) second recall notice regarding the back suspension. This was in sept 2013. Each month I call Toyota for the second recall service and they never "have the parts necessary" for the second recall service. Each time there is no "idea" when these parts will be in. The noise is continually getting worse and now appears at much lower speeds. For the first service, I was told by Toyota my car was totally rusted (even tho the car was from the south us) and had been "dangerous". I see this safecar site mentions these second stage recall are to be completed between sept 2013 and April 2014. Today is 4/9/2014 and the Toyota dealers in this area still claim they do not have the parts. Also today there now are new recalls for this same car how long will we wait for those parts?.

39 Suspension Noise problem of the 2012 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

My rear suspension periodically thumps a few minutes after I start driving the vehicle and is most noticeable on a dirt roads. It sounds like a rock is hitting the underside of the car, but I know it is not a rock! it only does it once. It's like the suspension is binding and then releases after a certain distance down the road.

41 Suspension Noise problem of the 2007 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 03/01/2012

Knock and sudden shift of steering wheel. Noise appeared to come from front of vehichle and along the steering column or suspension system. Has grown worse with use, but vehichle only has 30,250 miles. We would like to know if it's safe to drive; danger of loss of steering. We do not feel safe, especially at highway speeds.

42 Suspension Noise problem of the 2007 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 01/06/2012

Vehicle exhibited a clunk and ratchet sound from rear of car when driving over small bumps. Problem was reported to dealer in January 2010. While the noise was replicated, they were unable to find the source of the problem. I was assured that the suspension components were in good condition. A local mechanic was also consulted who could not pinpoint the source of the suspension noise. Approximately one year later I was driving down the road and I lost control of the vehicle. The right rear wheel kicked out and was no longer parallel with the vehicle. Car was practically immobile. The source of the problem was found to be a linkage that stripped itself out. The linkage (tie rod?) holds the wheel in place. I had both sides (right and left) repaired just in case the left side experienced similar wear. Car remains slightly out of alignment (just beyond tolerance) as linkage failure caused suspension components to warp or bend.

43 Suspension Noise problem of the 2006 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 02/21/2010

I was driving by 88 st and 94 Ave in miami, florida went through the train tracks, and heard a loud noise, like an explosion, and the car started to shake and move to the left lane, thank god there was no cars coming, so I finally control the vehicle, I look for a reason of the explosion, and then drag. . . Literally to a shopping plaza, where I noticed the tire behind on the driver side was almost separating from the vehicle. I called my son, and he send a tow truck, later a mechanic would tell me that the inner tie rod broke. I noticed months before that the car made funny noises from the suspension. I called the dealer sent an e-mail to Toyota USA warning them, they told me to go to the dealer. They didn't care what I said to them, I went three times to them, Toyota USA insisted to go to the dealer. Three years later Toyota USA sent me a warning brochure about the inner-tie rod problem and how to do the alignment on the rav 4 but when I bought the car they never said anything about doing this procedure. I did the alignment for the rav 4 in a place that has all the certifications, in my opinion the rav-4 has a defect involving the suspension ( after shocks) and the inner-tie rods, I hope this helps find the reason of this problem. And how to get reimbursed for all the expenses that I went through this. .

44 Suspension Noise problem of the 2007 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 06/20/2009

I own a Toyota 2007 Rav4 which as been in the dealerships shop over 10 times for the same two issues brakes and grinding noise, per Toyota each time it was different, but I know it was the same two things. It's like Toyota is falsifying customers car issues with their own words instead of making proper documentation. It started off with the brakes when I first purchased the car they were making a noise and when going over speed bumps the car would accelerate instead of stopping, but I thought this may be an added feature to the new car. The first real incident is when the car would not stop and I crashed into to a side rail. It didn't do much damage and it total about $400. 00. The car is making a metallic noise in the suspension and this was reported, but each and every time Toyota's techs drives with me and my husband while we driving the car to duplicate the noise Toyotas techs said this noise was normal. We knew this noise wasnt normal behavior of a brand new car, I took it to another auto shop and they verified that the noise was in the suspension system, that Toyota would need to address the issue because the car was still under warranty, and it would cost me money to locate the noise. When I told Toyota they said they give a car until they could find the issue, by letting their field tech look at the car, and I asked when this tech would be available. I wanted to see this person look at the car, but they came up with a million and one reasons that I could meet with the tech? after talking to people from their corp office about the metallic noise and the brakes Toyota said, since we can't find anything wrong with the car its under warranty so if something happens it will be fixed. What I dont understand is why should I have to wait for this car to kill me or my family for the company to look at their faults because all we did was purchased a car from the top of the line auto makers to get this kind of treatment?.

The technician advised that the four tires be replaced again for the third time. There was a recall related to the defect under NHTSA campaign id number 12v373000 (suspension:rear). The VIN was eligible; however the dealer refused to repair the vehicle because a defect was not present during the inspection. The vehicle was not repaired and the defective tires were not replaced.
