My Rav4--VIN: jtmbk35v765008164--has a problem with the driver side airbag connector. When the warning light is on, it deactivates all of the airbags. It has become permanently on in recent days. It has become a safety hazard. When I start my vehicle and the automatic check up, the airbag light keeps lighting up. The airbag light on the dashboard would be on when stationary or in motion. It will keep on for the duration of the drive. The error code found by my independent mechanic is b1821. But my mechanic can not fix this problem. Even replacing the front driver seat may not fix the problem, according to my mechanics. It was a design problem with the connector. I have asked Toyota to fix this for free. Toyota refused.

While driving the car the srs warning light illuminated indicating that the air bags had been deactivated. Pulled off of road immediately and turned the engine off. After waiting aprx. 5 min. Proceeded to restart engine and light went out. As I returned to the road after 2 min. The light illuminated again and has remained on.
A representative at passport Toyota, located at 5001 auth way, suitland, MD told me that because my airbag light wasn't on that they were not going to provide me with a rental vehicle until Toyota announces a permanent solution for my car. This is not only in direct violation of my recall notice (it specifically states that if I feel unsafe driving my car, then the dealership will provide me with a rental) but displays that representative's ignorance of the recall notification, which also states that there is no warning light or other indication that the issue with my drivers side airbag exists. Since I live in a major metropolitan area (washington DC) where multiple vehicle accidents happen daily, I feel incredibly unsafe driving without the full assurance of a working drivers side airbag. As stipulated in the recall notice, the dealership is obliged to provide me with a rental vehicle given that Toyota does not have a solution to this problem at this time. I also called darcars Toyota on 12210 cherry hill road, silver spring, MD, and I was told that they would not provide me with a car either. I find it appalling and abhorrent that 2 dealerships in a major metropolitan area would refuse to comply with the conditions of a recall notice, especially one that involves a drivers side airbag given the current recall situation with a similar part on a different vehicle.

After reading several news stories today (04/09/14) about the recall of 27 Toyota models (including 2013 rav 4), for: •cables for the driver air bag module that can be damaged, disabling the bag, though a warning light will come on (3. 5 million vehicles, 1. 67 million in the u. S. ). •seats that don't lock in place (2. 32 million, 670,000 in north America) •steering column brackets that may become loose or fail (760,000, europe and asia only) •windshield wiper motor (160,000, asia only) •starter motor fire hazard (20,000, asia only) I called the dealer where I bought my car - Toyota of rock hill. I was informed that recalls are "coming," but they didn't have specific information from Toyota yet. I should be getting a letter in the mail and then I take the car in for service. Frustrating to see that the media has more information on the actual recalls than the Toyota dealer. So, if something happens between now and the time I get "my letter," (my air bags fail or the seats become dislodged during an accident), I'm pretty much screwed.

The airbag warning light came on and stayed on last week. Took it to my local repair shop. Without even looking they guessed that it was the clockspring. After bringing it in and reading the comptuer codes, they confirmed that the clockspring needs to be replaced. Shop said they cannot buy an aftermakert part anymore and need to get an oem part from Toyota, which is expensive. Called Toyota dealer service center to just double check if there is any official recall for this problem. Apparently there is a similar recal on the tundra but not the Rav4.
The air bag warning light indicated a problem. I took it to a Toyota service center and they indicated that it coded b1801, a message to replace a spiral cable. Since this condition causes the airbags to be inoperable, I had them repair the problem cable. When I look online, this seems to be a widespread issue with other owners and is certainly a safety issue.
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Rav4. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 11v245000 (air bag) but the repair did not correct the failure. The air bag light illuminated due to a failure with the air bag spiral cable. The dealer advised that the air bag warning light illumination was not caused by recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 70,652.
Air bag warning light illuminated, I took the car to the dealer and was told that the spiral cable has failed and will need to be replaced. They also explained to me that this vehicle will not pass yearly mandated nh state vehicle inspection due to this condition as all of the airbags are inoperable. I have scheduled this to be repaired but the cost is estimated to be $440. 00. Until this condition can be repaired I have parked this vehicle as I do not want my family exposed to this potentially dangerous condition. Toyota should stand behind this failure as I see from other resources that this is a fairly common failure for the rav-4.
Airbag warning light has come on and scan shows that it is a "spiral cable" that needs to be replaced. Unknown to me was that airbag wouldn't deploy while this light is on. Car hasn't been in any accident and this appears to be low mileage to have this event. This is a major safety issue and due to high frequency of this event being reported. . . It should be a recall!.
I'm pretty sure the airbag malfunction warning light of my 2006 Rav4 is not a matter of wear an tear. There are several complaints on 2006-2008 ravs4 with identical problem. You don't want to hear this, but is hardly difficult to find a way to get in contact with Toyota motors, it seemed that they do not want to hear from the Toyota owner’s problems. Moreover, I explained them the airbags warning light illuminates sporadically at approximately 72,000 miles at 45 miles/hour and now remains on with no apparent reason, I drove my car to the dealer trying to get my car repaired by Toyota, but they doesn’t assume any responsibility due that the malfunction occurred after 3 year or 60,000 miles of warranty. I have noticed they have an air bags recall campaign for 2007 and newer ravs4, so it does seem suspicious at first glance because 2006 is not included even though many owners have experienced and filed complaints against Toyota due to the same problem. Realistically this is a safety matter, so 2006 Toyota Rav4 needs to be recalled.
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Rav4. The contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was included in and repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 11v245000 (air bags) however, after the repair the air bag warning light continued to illuminate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The technician stated that the spiral cable would have to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 135,000.
My 2006 Toyota Rav4 airbag dash light began remaining on constantly and was diagnosed by findlay Toyota in flagstaff, az on 3/20/13 with: "recommend replacing spiral cable due to open circuit in spiral cable. . . $583 to replace sensor. " I called Toyota customer experience center at 1-800-331-4331 on 6/19/13 and spoke with jacklyn, who confirmed that no recalls are available for this problem on the Rav4s, despite this issue being the exact same as found in Toyota tacomas: March 08, 2012 customer faqs for Toyota tacoma steering wheel spiral cable assembly recall 1. Which models are involved in the recall? Toyota is recalling 495,000 certain 2005 to early 2009 model year Toyota tacoma vehicles sold in the u. S. No other vehicles are involved in this recall. 2. What is the condition? due to the combination of the steering wheel spiral cable design and characteristics unique to the tacoma chassis, friction between the spiral cable and the retainer in the steering wheel spiral cable assembly may occur in some vehicles. Friction over time may result in damage to certain circuits that provide connectivity to the driver’s air bag module. If connectivity is lost, the air bag warning lamp will remain illuminated, and the driver’s air bag may become deactivated, preventing deployment in the event of a crash. 3. Are there any warnings that this condition has occurred? yes. The airbag warning light is designed to illuminate when the vehicle is started. It goes off after about 6 seconds, indicating the system is operating as designed. If the airbag warning light remains illuminated after this period, please contact your local Toyota dealer for diagnosis and appropriate repair. This exact condition exists in my 2006 Rav4, however, I cannot afford the $583 required for an authorized dealer to repair it.

Console airbag sensor warning light came on while driving on a highway and stays on. Coincidently this airbag warning light issue came about after having taken car into a Toyota dealership around sept 2012 for a recall. The recall had something do with faulty roll-over sensor for the side curtain airbag systems. Took the car to a Toyota dealership. After dtc check, the cause turned out to be a shorted spiral cable assembly unit for the srs driver airbag. Replacement job required two hours of labor by tech, costing $210, $307 part and "supplies and waste disposal" fee of $25. 88. According to internet search, it is seems there have been cases of defective spiral cable unit for Toyota rav 4 causing srs airbag system to go into "inactive" mode therefore leaving drivers/passengers without any protection and thereby creating life threatening scenario. Therefore, there is clear and strong need for the NHTSA to contact Toyota corporation to initiate a recall action targeting the spiral cable assembly unit (84306-22010). In recent past, "Toyota is recalling 495,000 certain 2005 to early 2009 model year Toyota tacoma vehicles sold in the u. S. No other vehicles are involved in this recall".
Late November 2013 at 75,000 miles air bag warning light began to come in intermittently, problem still exists at 75,300. Dealer notified, no existing recall on 2006.
Air bag warning light illuminated. Illuminated sporadically at first, now stays on all the time. Noticed it would come on at first while cornering, believe it to be related to the wiring in the steering column for the air bags. This is a common failure on this model. There should be a recall on this safety related problem.
Air bag warning light came on. Took it to dealer says clock spring assembly needs to be replaced before they can determine if that is the problem.
The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Rav4. The contact stated that the air bag warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and a diagnostic was performed. The failure was located as the air bag spiral cable. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer advised the contact that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 11v245000 (air bags). The failure mileage was 153,132 and the approximate current mileage was 153,136.
The air bag warning light went on and I took it to the dealer - they said it was the spiral cable for the driver's side front air bag which needed to be replaced for over $500. This was after the car had already been the subject of another airbag-related recall.
Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Toyota Rav4. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the air bag warning light would come on and stay on constantly. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis. After diagnosis they advised him that the spiral wiring in the steering wheel failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 104,000. The current mileage was approximately 106,000. Tb.
