Grinding noise, beeping, warning lights flashing, difficulty steering, difficulty braking, clunking when braking, vsc and abs lights on. Very scary. I was driving approximately 50 mph. It also happened when my daughter was driving it. Very intermittent. I was going straight, no turning, no bumps in the road. So random. I have researched the much on youtube and the internet and there are many others who have experienced this scary situation. I am afraid to drive the vehicle and it is a major safety hazard and must be fixed! I heard they recalled the 2003's but not the 2002's but they have the same parts. I will send pictures of others who have similar complaints. If you go to the website I sent you will find many others who have experienced the same thing. I am sending only a sample. Please do something. Serious safety hazard, whatever the problem is! I have not driven it much since it happened. I have been very distracted since my boyfriend passed away. I did call the local Toyota dealer after it first happened and also the national number for Toyota and was told there is no recall. Yet! go to carproblemzoo. Com and input "brake grinding noise of Toyota Sequoia abs and vsc. I tried to upload docs but they were the wrong format.
The vsc/abs indicator lights appear intermittently without any warning. The car beeps, makes a heavy grinding noise and the abs brakes are automatically engaged without any action by the driver regardless of the speed, or whether driving on a highway or city street. The car will fishtail. Based on my research, I have found that this is a common problem among these vehicles and that there was a 2003 recall for this problem. This defect in the same model for the 2002 vehicles seems to be widespread. Must we first have an accident to win rights to be accommodated. Does Toyota not want to make good on its product and satisfy all owners/customers. I worry every time I drive my vehicle and thank god each time I reach my destination without incident. This is the only vehicle we have to drive our severely disabled 10 year old daughter and cannot afford a new vehicle. . Read more...
Vsc trac, trac off, brake, and abs lights on as the same time for the last couple months. Sometimes the car straddled a little bit when I drove on freeway. I checked the code, but there are no code. I tried to looking for help online, but I am surprised, there were a lot of Toyota Sequoia owner has the same problem like mine.
The abs light is on constantly even though the vehicle has not suffered any incidents, the vsc/track light is on sometimes it lasts up to one week until I disconnect the negative cable of the battery, recently the security light started flashing constantly, I don't know much about cars and is already altering my blood pressure.
I have owned a 2002 Toyota Sequoia since 2006. This problem began occurring in the winter of 2007 with the vsc, vsc trac, and abs warning lights all coming on. This kept continuing anytime I was driving in wet snowy conditions. I began to research this problem on line and it seems there are many cases of this on 2001-2003 Toyota Sequoias. I took it to a dealer and they couldn't find any computer codes relating to this issue. At the end of last winter the problem seemed to become worse. Even in dry conditions on dry pavement the vsc computer begins to take over acceleration and very often! and sometimes the lights come on and sometimes not. Again I researched and found there to be a Toyota recall on 2003 Sequoias only for the same problem that has been affecting my Sequoia! I called Toyota, they gave me a case # and told me to take it in to the dealer. I took it back to a Toyota dealer and again they could not duplicate the lights turning on or find any computer codes concerning the problem. That was approximately 5 months ago and still the problem persists leading up to yesterdays accident. I drove up to the mountains to go snowboarding. When we left the resort it was snowing very heavy. I noticed the abs, vsc, and vsc trac lights come on again, as I was expecting them to. We drove about 7 miles down the road then I was moving in to the left turning lane of a traffic light. Our speed was only 15-20 mph, and when I tried to slow down the wheels locked up and we began sliding. I let off the brakes and tried them again to no avail. I let off the brakes and tried to miss the vehicle in front of me by going to the left side of them over a small median as there was no traffic coming towards us in the intersection. But my rear tire bounced me off the median and into the vehicle. The damage was minor and there were no injuries. I believe this accident could have been avoided if the abs and vsc system was working properly. I believe the recall should include 01 and 02 Sequoias.
I have been having the same problem with my 02' Sequoia. At first the vsc trac light/ vsc off would come on & go off after turning engine off. Then it started staying on along w/ abs light & brake. All the lights continue to stay on. My vehicle only has 126,800 miles which I consider less to be having an issue at this time. I'm a mother of three in which this is my primary vehicle that carries my precious cargo. I really do think that Toyota should issue some kind of recall in regards to this matter, it clearly looks likes this is a problem w/ other Sequoia owners & they need to stand behind there products. Especially when it involves the safety of lives. It would be great if someone could help me w/ this matter.
There are two issues that I would like to report to you. First is the abs braking/vsc system. Second is the excessive rust through out the vehicle under carriage/chassis. First, I have a 2002 Toyota Sequoia. At 38,620 miles, the brake, abs, vsc on, ans vsc off lights come on when the engine started and while driving. I took it the dealer, thompson Toyota, 122 w swamp road, doylestown, PA 18901, tel 215 245 9460. They stated that it is the rear brake pads that being worn out and required replacement. The dealer replaced the rear brake pads. After approximately 40 miles on the road (at 38660 miles), the identical situation occurred again: the brake, abs, vsc on, ans vsc off lights come on when the engine started and while driving. I took the car back to the dealer and they said that the vehicle needs abs ecu replacement. Furthermore, the dealer said that there is no guarantee that the same warning lights won't take place in the near future based on the abs ecu repair. The cost of the repair is quoted at $2100. 00. However, the most disturbing safety factor the dealer stated is that when the abs and vsc light are on there is no abs and vsc functions while the vehicle is in operational status. Second. I have owned three Toyota in the past. The Sequoia is the only vehicle exhibits excessive rust through out the chassis despite regular under the carriage washes after exposure to salt due to snowstorms. A search on the internet disclosed that these are common issues with the Sequoia. For safety and financial reasons, NHTSA should encourage Toyota to address/recall the abs/vsc defect(s) and excessive chassis rust in all the Sequoia(s) on the road today. Thank you very much for your attention in advance. Keep up the good work, folks!.
2002 Sequoia limited. Vsc off, vsc trac, abs lights on. Vehicle makes crunching noise in engine compartment (abs / vsc) and brakes engage while trying to accelerate. Continues for approx 5 seconds. Unable to accelerate.
We own a 2002 Toyota Sequoia, and in September of 2008, 4 lights came lit on the dashboard of our SUV. They are the vsc, vsc trac, brake, and the abs light. We took the car to 3 Toyota dealers here in cincinnati and they are all saying that the "skid control ecu with actuator" needs to be replaced, which will cost roughly $2500. 00 to have the dealer do the repairs. After getting online, I found that there are very many Toyota owners who are experiencing the same problems and that the NHTSA is pressing Toyota to recall this computer system. As such, I wanted to make the NHTSA aware of the problems we are experiencing as well. I was told by the dealer that we could drive the car but we would just not have our abs. The computer has been out on this vehicle for over a year now.
Vsc/abs skid control ecu failure. My vsc/trac sensor and abs lights have been going on and off for about a week. Two days ago I was at a stop sign and began to accelerate when my skid light came on the gas pedal became unresponsive for about 3-5 seconds. An oncoming bus had to slam on it's brakes and swerve to avoid a collision. I had my two children in the car and we were all very shaken. I took the car to my Toyota dealer today, Toyota of dallas, and was quoted a price of $4,500 by dan lawson, asst svc mgr, to fix the ecu/abs computer. I felt the price was outrageous and went to the NHTSA site to complain. I was shocked to see the number of complaints on this very dangerous part. I am also outraged by the price quoted by my Toyota dealer. It's seems that others have at least been quoted prices $2000-3000 less than Toyota of dallas. Toyota needs to do something about this immediately. How many people will have to lose their lives before this problem is corrected???.
Vsc/abs/skid warning lights come on and stay on.
The traction control and vsc trac light come on. Vsc controls the anti-lock braking system. Took the vehicle to Toyota dealership (town and country Toyota, charlotte, nc). This dealer says a new skid control computer is required. Upon researching various consumer websites, this appears to be a common defect. See tundrasolutions. Com for specific references to this. It appears that NHTSA has already filed many similar complaints from consumers. As a result of this finding, purchase and installation of the skid control computer has been postponed.
Vsc/trac/parking brake/abs light turned on. Dealer said ecu controlling these functions shut down. Replaced ecu for $2,000.
Non-injured accident. Vsc/abs skid control ecu failure in Toyota Sequoia 2002.
Toyota Sequoia vsc/abs skid control ecu failure computer fails to recognize appropriate time to turn the actual system on and off.
