1 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2018

The vsc trac, vsc off, brake light and abs light are all on on the dash. This is known problem with 1st generation Toyota Sequoia's. Toyota issued a recall on the 03 models for this issue and provided a fix at their expense. The same issue occurs in other model years but there is no open recall for it. Dealership wants approximately $2,000 to replace the skid control ecu.

2 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2014

The contact owns a 2002 Toyota Sequoia. While driving approximately 70 mph, the vsc, abs, trac, and brake warning lights sporadically illuminated. As a result, the vehicle pulsated and veered to the right. The contact stated that the vehicle was exhibiting the same failure as listed in NHTSA campaign number: 10v176000 (electronic stability control, traction control system). The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the sas sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 121,463.

3 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2014

On interstate twice doing the posted speed 75mph I heard a grinding, vsc antilock brake lights come on, vehicle suddenly pulls to the right. Luckily I gained control and avoided a major accident. Have had brakes checked and now told its the sensor. Very costly repairs. Toyota should have a recall on this issue. Could cause a deadly accident.

4 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

The abs, vsc, and brake warning light came on. Took to dealership per owners manual and they wanted up to $4,000 to replace various computers and sensors. There seems to be nothing wrong with performance of vehicle and I suspect it is just an issue with a sensor or the warning light itself. Should be easy and inexpensive fix but dealership seems to be taking advantage of the situation. Researched on internet and found many, many other Toyota owners with the same issue with the same vehicle. This should be a recall and Toyota should step up and fix (or be forced to fix) this cronic issue with these vehicles.

5 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2011

The contact owns a 2002 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated while driving 40 mph, the anti lock brake and vcs lights illuminated. The vehicle also decelerated into limp mode. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that a sensor for one of the rear tires was faulty. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure continued to occur. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where the booster assembly and master cylinder were replaced; however, the failure continued. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer a third time and the contact was informed that a brake line failed. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 120,000.

6 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2010

To start, I want to stress that I do not understand why there is no recall for this problem. The vsc trac, abs, skid control and brake lights all came on and stayed on as of the above date. Prior to that date, the vsc trac and skid lights would come on for no reason, but would go off upon turning off and restarting the car. When the lights came on and stayed on, I read the owner's manual and based on that information, was worried the the brakes would not work, so I called the dealer. When I spoke to someone in the dealer's repair shop about the problem before I brought the car in, he said that the warning lights meant that my abs system was gone and it would cost $2,000 to fix. He said that it was not covered by warranty or a recall. So, I took it to the nearest auto repair shop to my home, that I had used previously. They checked the warning lights with the computer diagnostic and could not find anything wrong. Then, I took it to the dealer, and they checked the warning lights and said that the problem was low voltage with the battery. I had recently bought a new battery, so I took the car back to the first place, which checked the battery and said it was fine. So I received conflicting messages from the dealer. However, since other owners with my year/model Toyota have had safety problems with the same issue and Toyota has the same problem with the 2003 model and they have issued a recall, I believe it is a safety issue. I can't understand why no recall has been issued for the 2002 year. Please look at all of the complaints about this exact issue from so many consumers (and I'm sure plenty of others who did not take the time to report it) and act before someone is seriously injured or killed!!!!!!.

7 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2010

2002 Toyota Sequoia abs and vehicle skid control (vsc) computer failure that causes safety concern in operating the vehicle (abs, vsc, parking brake lights stay on). In slippery road conditions, applying brakes or accelerating causes the vehicle to skid and slide easily. 2003 models have been recalled for similar issue with abs and vsc computer. Please look into poor Toyota's design or production quality of these vehicles before we get injured or worse. . .

8 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2009

Same problem like everyone else I've read about. The traction control, vsc, brake light, and abs light on. Dealership says no recall but they recalled all 2003 models for the same issue. Vehicle lights are off when vehicle is started, after 2-3 miles all the lights come on then the car is hard to handle due to traction control making the car unstable. This has been occurring for quite a while now. The vsc/trac light on my 2002 Toyota Sequoia comes on after driving for a few minutes. When this occurs it feels like the vehicle looses power and goes into "anti lock" mode. It's a scary feeling when driving at highway speeds. Once the vsc warning lights come on the vehicle drives normally, will do it again and again. The dealership said that it cost 800. 00 dollars to repair. I can't afford to have the repair made and feel I should not have to. If the 2003 model has been recalled for the same problem and so many other 2002 Sequoia owners have reported the same problem, why shouldn't our trucks also qualify for recall and dealer repair at no cost to us. Must we first have an accident to win rights to be accommodated. Does Toyota not want to make good on it's product and satisfy all ownere/customers. I worry every time I drive my vehicle and thank god each time I reach my destination without incident.

9 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2009

While driving a 2002 Toyota Sequoia sr5 2 wheel drive SUV near the end of March 2009, the trac off, vsc trac, brake and abs warning lights simultaneously came on. I was traveling approximately 55 mph on a dry road at night in heavy traffic. I moved off the highway to check the manual which emphasized the possible seriousness of each light. It said to contact a Toyota dealer. I called earnhardt Toyota in mesa arizona who finally worked on the vehicle several days later for the vsc/trac/brake/abs problem, and a front brake vibration/pulsation. No help on the pulsation problem since I was told I needed to turn the rotors again. On the vehicle stability control/traction control/anti-lock braking system/brake warning lights, the service associate offered that it was a "common" problem, could be caused by a loose gas cap or an expensive computer (in the thousands of dollars). He sated that no "codes" were set other than a "low voltage" which could be caused by a bad battery or corroded connection. I cleaned the battery terminals completely, checked the battery, and made sure the gas cap was tight. The warning lights now come on at some point every time I drive the Sequoia. Earnhardt Toyota told me it should not affect the actual braking systems. How do they know that? being told of a false continuous or intermittent safety warning light can lull one into a questionable sense of safety. These lights and safety systems need to work reliably without having Toyota just say they know about this common problem. Does it affect actual vehicle stability control and emergency braking? on numerous internet sites, I find this same problem is mentioned frequently. Also a large number of complaints are on file now with the NHTSA. I rely on the warning lights and their underlying systems to work as advertised, but Toyota now makes me doubt that reliance. Does there have to be a large "body count" for NHTSA to order a recall to fix this well known safety problem?.

10 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2008

On 12/24/08 went to Toyota dealer. When applying brakes vehicle vibrates. Rotors replaced, vibration stopped. 1/2/09 back to dealer, check engine light on, vsc trac, and trac off lights on. Back to dealer on 1/12/09. As of 1/21/09 lights mentioned, back on. Brakes lights came on this morning also.

11 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2008

Vsc, traction control, anti-lock brake, and parking brake lights on the dash illuminated while driving. So, our vehicle has no antilock braking capability, traction control or skid control. Mechanic reports that the skid control ecu needs to be replaced--at a cost of $2200. Seems to be a common issue with this vehicle and Toyota needs to remedy it.

12 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2008

Toyota Sequoia 2002 abs, parking brake light and trak warning lights turn on and stay on when the vehicle starts. Toyota dealers say that the computer in the abs system is bad. The vehicle when going thru a bump or an uneven terrain loses power momentarily. It happens very often, almost every time the vehicle passes on bumps. I claimed to Toyota that this is a safety design problem but Toyota refuses to fix it. Repairs are about 3 to 4 thousand dollars.

13 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2007

Brake light started to come on and go off when driving, but my manual said this is okay. Then the vsc and trac off lights started to come on and stay on but it did not happen every time I drove the car, only half the time.
