1 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2019

When driving at 70mph or higher a light comes on at the dash board vsc trac off the car loses speed and veers right to left almost loosing control of the steering wheel a diagnostic gave me a code c1234 wich is related with the stability control system yaw rate sensor / computer recalibration. This sensor is supposed to last the life of the car.

2 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2017

When driving on normal (safe and dry) road conditions, the vsa and trac control elements of the vehicle engaged and nearly caused me to crash. Braking was severely inhibited (had to pump brakes to get them to work) and steering was jolted to the right/affected nearly causing an inadvertent lane change at highway speeds (65 miles per hour). Was assessed by Toyota and ruled to be a faulty steering column sensor and yaw rate sensor which is an astronomically expensive repair. My family is not safe in this vehicle due to the defect. Please do something! this should be a recall!.

3 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2017

2002 Sequoia sr5 milage 150322. Been reading complaints on traction control that trac off and vac trac lights turn on and inside cab starts beeping and grinding noise comes from driver side wheel and looses rpm's. Thats what happening to my truck also. Used code scanner at its saying its the yaw sensor why haven't this issue been recalled. Needs to be recalled. It's dangerous!!! was driving 35 mph and the street light turned red. I pressed the break and truck syarted to beep, shake, and grind, started pumping breaks truck wouldn't stop and when it did was to late had already passed the red light. I've could of caused an accident and sevierly been injured or could of injured somebody else. Lucky my family wasn't in the truck at the time it happened.

4 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2016

When driving 70 mph on the interstate, the vehicle periodically yanks hard to the right, it sounds like I have a flat tire, front right tire feels and sounds like it stopped turning. Car slows, vsc system idiot lights flash and beep. After I have successfully though unintentionally run another car off the road it returns to normal. The idiot lights stay on until the car is turned off. Has been taken to mechanics numerous times in last few weeks, cannot find a problem. But keeps happening. Mechanic is aware of 2003 and newer recall for the same reason, tried recalibrating yaw sensor successfully. 3 days later it happened again mechanics says the sensor may be periodically malfunctioning, over correcting for a nonexistent problem. It has happened going 30 mph once, as well as today the lights and beeping went off at a dead stop in my driveway. Went straight to mechanics, turned off car to go inside, nothing found when he pulled it in.

5 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2015

The first time my abs/vcs trac lights came on was after I had to brake hard on a downward hill. I accelerated to climb the other side of the hill and it was after doing that which the vcs trac and trac off lights first came on at around 168,000 miles. There was a fast beeping sound lasting for maybe 10 sec then it regained power. Now it will do it within just a few miles of our home. We have had several more occasions since this initial incident where there was a jerking/pulling of the right front tire. Also the air conditioning would come on and off like it was trying to surge. Also idles very low, below 500 rpm and then finally shuts off. This vehicle has become very dangerous to drive. We are not sure what to get fixed on it since we have read that other owners are being told that its anything from a yaw sensor, steering angle sensor, brake booster system, or a skid control computer issue. All of these are very pricey to get fixed and there are no guarantees that they will even correct the problem. Most have had the yaw sensor replaced and it did not correct the problem. Some of the mechanics we have talked to said that there could be brake dust or mud and road grime build up over the sensor making it malfunction and that it should be hosed off at an underbody carwash. We haven't tried this yet since we didn't put much faith in it until we discovered hearing again on youtube. The 2003 Toyota Sequoia vcs recall should be extended down to the 2002 models as well. We all are having the same issue that they did.

6 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2015

2002 Toyota Sequoia vsc trac sensor lights turning on and off and hearing grinding noise when it auto-engage and disengage in motion.

7 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2014

I have a 2002 Sequoia, a couple of weeks ago while driving at 35 mph my brakes locked. I took it immediately to my brake guy; he looked it over, put it on the machine, found nothing. I left thinking it might have been something on the road that I missed seeing, that set off the traction sensors. A week went by without incident before it happened again; this time at 40mph on a flat clean highway. The trac off, vsc trac & the slip indicator light came on while the front end shook violently and pulled hard to the right. I was unable to adjust the brake, as it felt locked and my steering column, while vibrating madly was near impossible to turn, it was like driving an old style truck without power steering. I went to another brake shop, they hooked it up to the machine, and again nothing showed up!! today, five days later, while driving home with my children on a major highway doing the posted 65mph it happened again. I was suddenly unable to maneuver my vehicle, the brakes locked, the steering locked, and my vehicle pulled to the right. I just held on and prayed as my car pulled off the road, thank heavens the ground was flat. I have only been that afraid for my family's safety once before, and that was in the middle of a tornado. Toyota has a serious problem here!.

8 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2013

Since the date indicated (Nov. 29,2013) the track off lights and system in my Sequoia gets activated without road conditions which justify it. I felt a strong noise and lost power and had a dangerous situation because of the sudden stop or loss of acceleration. Took it to Toyota and told sensors and computer needed to be replaced at great cost , but with no guarantee of definite solution. I believe this is a safety issue involving anti- skid and track system which need to be attended to promptly. Can you help?.

9 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2013

I am having problem with my Sequoia vsc trac sensor lights turning on and off and hearing grinding noise when it auto-engage and disengage.

10 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2013

The vsc lights and traction lights have been randomly coming on since we purchased the Sequoia in 2005 with approx. 80k on it. They typically go off on their own and do not cause any issues. Now the slip indicator light comes on, flashes and beeps while locking up the abs and making it impossible to move until it comes to a complete stop. We have been fortunate that this has only happened at low speeds and not caused any accidents yet. It apperars that this is a wide spread issue with a combination of parts starting with the vsc computer, yaw sensor and steering angle sensor. Hopefully Toyota will take care of this due to the overall safety concern.

11 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

Normally happens at low speed while accelerating. The skidding car symbol flashes, a warning beeper beeps several times, there is a noticeable swerve to the right accompanied by a grinding noise. The, trac off and the vsc off, lights come on and I am able to continue merrily on my way unannoyed, there is no apparent reduction in braking ability or steering control. I just have the "idiot" lights on the dash until I turn off the ignition. When I next drive the vehicle I am very wary until it happens again, maybe immediately, or 10 to 20 miles. But it always happens. The dealer says a new yaw rate sensor and vsc ecu will fix it. About $1800. 00 above the $105. 00 already paid for the diagnostic fee. What really gets my "goat" there is a recall for the "early" 2003 models for this same problem.

12 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 05/31/2012

Driving on dry road and vsc engages. Can not use brakes. Continues to do this for a few minutes then stop, then engage again. Happened in oct. 2011 had a steering sensor replaced advised by Toyota and it is doing it again. This is very unsafe because I had no control of vehicle while this is engaged. I was going maybe 10 mph when it happened. No warning just engages.

13 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2011

My 2002 Toyota Sequoia has a defective sensor for the vsc, brake system. I see where the 2003 Sequoia is covered, but not the 2002's. Please tell me why this is the case, when the same problem is occuring.

14 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2009

In Feb. 2009, while driving to work, the brakes on my Sequoia began to lock and the engine started making a loud grinding sound and sensor lights began to blink uncontrollably. I could not control the car steering and was lucky that I was able to pull over the side of the road. This problem continued and I took it to my Toyota dealer who charged me $2700. 00 and blamed the problem on rats. After picking up my car from the dealership the problem continued a few weeks later and the same dealership still insisted that it was rats and charged me an additional $2300. 00. Yet this problem persisted so I took it to a local mechanic who has no ties with Toyota and he replaced a computer sensor. The problem went away for at least two years until recently during a recent rain storm it started to act up again. Driving this car has been unpredictable and scary at best. I came into several close calls with other vehicles on the road while driving when my car would loose all ability to steer and my brakes would lock during several instances. The experience has been a mind game and has taken a toll in my confidence in driving because I believed my dealership when they told me it was not the car, but because of rats, which I now know after reading other customers complaints on line that it was the way the car was manufactured. I lost a lot of faith in my Toyota dealership here in guam. I need your help to tell these people to recall my car to fix it even though it is 12 years old. I spent a lot of money when I invested in this car and I don't have the money to buy a new vehicle at this time. I am afraid an accident will occur to customers like me unless Toyota admits they have a problem with their vehicles.

15 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2006

I have a 2002 Toyota Sequoia sr5 4x4 and my abs, brake, vcs, trac lights on my dashboard remain on. . Read more...

16 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2005

"vsc trac" dash light flashed intermittently and then stayed lit at 45,000 miles. Per Toyota dealer service department, the vehicle skid control (vsc) computer and steering angle sensor failed. As a result of vsc computer failure, the vehicle's antilock brake system and vehicle skid control system are disabled.
