I took my Sequoia to have an airbag recall fixed and a recall that has something to do with the skid control module before I took it to have these recalls done my 2 vsc lights (vsc off light and vsc trac light) on the dash were on and so was the engine light I thought maybe the skid control recall would fix the vsc light but now both of the vsc lights are still on and my brake light is now also coming on when I start my vehicle when this happens my brake power is diminished and my vehicle shakes bad when hitting my brakes to slow down to make a turn or just to slow down in general at a stop light or stop sign this happens on the highway or wherever I'm driving my vehicle at the time but as long as the vsc lights and the brake light aren't all lit up on my dashboard at the same time my brakes aren't as diminished but both of the vsc lights stay on and my vehicle still shakes when I'm slowing down to make a turn. Also when both of the vsc lights are on along with the brake light my vehicle wants to spin the back tires when I'm taking off from a dead stop I have to let off the gas completely for a second then proceed.
Trac off vsc trac off lights illuminate. Seems to be faulty sensor. Brake light periodically comes on with no issue with brakes. Brakes have been replaced and everything checked. On 2 occasions when the brake light is on, the antiskid control activates when the car is going less than 30 mph slowing down for a turn. The car is hard to control and shakes. After the car is turned off for awhile the brake light does not illuminate the next time you drive but will come back on randomly. Trac off and vsc trac lights illuminate are on.
While executing a slow speed left turn(10-15mph) I braked lightly to execute another left turn when the parking brake and traction control lights lit up on my dashboard along with diminished brake power and a grinding noise. I applied them again a little more aggressive to stop my vehicle. . Same response. I coasted to about 2-3mph and the lights were still showing but I recovered brake power. At my destination(3 blocks away) I turned off the vehicle. On my return trip back home, there was no sign of dash warning lights and I had full braking power. @home I immediately called Toyota USA and they did not acknowledge any ongoing problem. After going on an online forum I discovered numerous complaints about the same problem. . . Some of them actually going to Toyota for the problem, and some of those stated the problem returned. . My son ran an obdii diagnostic to find numerous codes for the abs ans ecu and brakebooster system. Fixes range from low brake fluid to a complete replacement of said systems costing thousands of dollrs. I feel this is a serious safety issue that Toyota should address. [dateline problem happened 6-27-19. . . ]I have no choice now but to warily trust Toyota to run a diagnostic on my vehicle for solutions. . . . Please help.
Vsc, check engine, brake lights keep coming on. No traction control when button pushed. Driving highway speed traction control beeps when not even appropriate. Have had several times trying to brake, no brakes light comes on almost crashed due to no brakes! I have researched recall my VIN# not listed. This is ridiculous! unsafe! Toyota needs to recall more vehicles. Not a happy Toyota consumer!.
Defective abs system since initial purchase. At first, an intermittent problem but now a safety hazard. Brake light, vsc light &trac light constantly are on & now on several occasions going only 10 mph brakes are affected where there is a loud grinding noise & brakes don't function properly. I was told the yaw sensor would take care of this costing $880, but it didn't; now its the skid control another $875 which I agreed to & when calling to get status of my car, I'm told it didn't fix the issue & now it's the booster another $1,000 which I'm not paying. This should be a recall as this is issue makes it a very unsafe vehicle to drive. My car is still sitting in the shop and I don't know what to do at this point.
While I was driving at an approximate speed of 40 mph, I noticed my brake, trac off, vsc trac, engine light all came on at once. I noticed that braking was not as responsive (increased braking distance; abs doesn't seem to be engaging) and when speeding to over 50 mph, the vehicle feels as if it is slowing itself down. It is currently an expected heavy rainfall season where I am and having the vehicle in this state is very dangerous especially when the brakes are not working effectively or when it starts to slow itself down suddenly. After shutting the vehicle down and restarting it after about 2 hours, the lights mentioned are still illuminated except the brake light. After reading all the other similar complaints, I am surprised Toyota is not paying for all aspects of this defect associated with the vehicle and not driver misuse.
Tl- the contact owns a 2003 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle the traction off, vsc and brake sensor lights had illuminated and when pressing the brake pedal the vehicle would not immediately stop and the breaking distance was extended. The contact also indicated that the vehicle would sometimes hesitate to accelerate. The cause of the failures were not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was undetermined.
Starting in December of 2014 my 2003 Toyota Sequoia has had the brake light coming on and when applying the breaks having shaking in the front end. I took my vehicle into Toyota and they said it was the wheel speed sensor, ecu. They replaced the skid control ecu and the right rear speed sensor. Costing me 1196. 90. Then in March the brake light started coming on and off again periodically. It is now October 2015 and on the way home from church the brake lights and vsc and traction control , and engine lights keep coming on. I was turning and the engine stalled and nearly died in one of the busiest intersections. I have since parked it in the driveway and will have to get someone over here to look at it because I do not feel safe or comfortable driving this vehicle.
Two months after purchasing the vehicle, vsc and trac off lights became illuminated, no other symptoms. Stayed on for 2 days then disappeared again. Two months later the brake light had become illuminated, put it in park to load passengers, and when returned to drive, the vsc and trac off lights were illuminated and a grinding sound was heard when applying brakes - along with the vehicle pulling to the right. Turned the car off, checked fluids and fuses, when restarted only brake light was illuminated and car appeared to be driving normally. Took it in to Toyota today to have the problem checked out as the brake light is still on, and the grinding noise was a concern - and am told the brake booster needs to be replaced. In all my research on this, I'm very concerned as it appears to be quite a common problem, and on a search of my VIN it says that my vehicle is not affected by the recall (although I was told at the dealer that my ecu was 'flashed to the updated programming') current cost quoted is $1,508 - but was also told that once the booster is installed they have to re-run their check and it may not be the only problem. This is very disappointing as we own 2 other Toyotas, and purchased this car as a daily driver to take our children to school, everything I've seen regarding these issues leaves me very concerned for their safety.
When driving on the freeway the abs, vsc trac and brake light all came on at once. Since then I notice a problem when I brake at higher speeds the car seems to shake as though the abs is not being applied properly. The dealership said there was a recall on this which was a simple software update. Now the dealership tells me these parts need to be replaced. How do I know that a simple update is not the fix or that the new parts wont have a similar issue in the meantime I am stuck with a vehicle that's not braking properly when it seems this should be fixed by the manufacture.
Nhtsa's conclusion that the sas ecu failure associated with Toyota Sequoias built from 2002-2003 under NHTSA investigation # 10v176000 is seriously flawed. While typically the sudden failure to accelerate or fail to brake associated with this issue is only annoying, it can be catastrophic under the right circumstances. For instance we had it happen in a parking lot when beginning to accelerate and then noticing a car pulling out quickly in our path. Our brakes failed, the traction and brake warning lights lit, and we barely missed the car as it noticed us coming at it and quickly got out of the way. What if the car hadn't noticed in time to pull away quickly and avoid our uncontrollable car? what if it were a child running out between cars? what if it were to happen during our low speed accelerating and braking when we drop our kids off at school and other kids are walking among the cars now and then? the conclusion that it is not a serious safety issue due to the speeds involved in most incidents reported is simply ignorant or recklessly risk tolerant. Does someone actually have to die before this is a serious safety issue? we will try to get the dealer to make this repair but since their are "no active recalls" listed on Toyota's website for this or on NHTSA's, I can only hope they will fix it.
The vsc, and trac, and brake lights all lit up while coming into an intersection, where I heard a grinding clunking noise in the drive train, as I tried to stop the vehichle, coasted through the intersection, made others braking to avoid me as I steered away from them. This has happened intermittently over the years but this was the scariest, as it happened going into an intersection. It has happened backing out of our driveway several times, on the highway several times. Toyota doesn't want to tie this issue to the recall regarding the vsc ecu trac light recall from several years ago. I've tried unsuccessfully to escalate this issue with Toyota motor CO.
We bought this 2003 Sequoia limited 2 wheel drive new, and it has been a good car over all. But the vsc tracs, brake lights have flashed on and off sporadically at different speeds, when driving and or when braking. They usually don't effect the car, but recently we have experienced them all coming on when braking, and we seem to loose power and the power steering is lost momentarily until we come to a stop, and shut it off for a few minutes. This happened most recently last week when coming into an intersection driving about 30mph, and all of the vsc, trac, and brake lights abruptly came on, there was a grinding noise, and it seemed to have lost electrical power, trying to come to a stop, I could not stop in time for the intersection, but was lucky enough to avoid being hit by cross traffic, it could have been a lot worse. It sounded like something fell apart underneath. I inspected it and saw nothing, but know that this is a major safety issue that Toyota should address and pay for being a recall item. I called the Toyota hotline and was given a case number for this issue, which was a recall in 2010. Took it to the dealer, and they weren't able to replicate the issue. Stated it was a bad computer, and some vsc module sensor? didn't state Toyota would cover the cost or help with the cost. Even though this has been a known issue with Toyota Sequoia's for years, and was a recall item. This is a safety issue that could result in a major accident. Why would Toyota not cover the cost to fix this if it is a recall item? I want it fixed but with the miles I have on it, don't want to spend much money on it, especially an item that is a recall problem with many like mine. What should I do? wait to have an accident, hire a lawyer, and sue? frustrated Toyota owner in texas.
The vsc off/ trac off and check engine and brake light all came on. The brake started to jump and the car pulled hare to the left. I turn the car off and back on the problem went a way but the lights all came back on. However there are a lot of people having this problem with their Sequoia and I have seen no safety recall for this.
At random times, the vsc and brake lights will come on. When this happens, the brakes do not work properly. They severely grind and stopping is nearly impossible. The only solution is to completely turn the car off and restart. I have taken my vehicle to Toyota many time over the course of several years. This is very dangerous as I have children riding in the vehicle!! Toyota either said there is nothing wrong or that a sensor will need to be replaced which costs approximately $1600. 00. This is a common issue with older Sequoias and should be a recall. It should be free of charge to the owner! I should not have to pay for something Toyota did not do right!.
I have my a/c on and the brake light turns on and trac and vsc lights come on. This has been heaping since 60000 miles and there was a recall on it but not on mine. They do test and can't find the problem. When I trun the car off they come off.
While driving, brake light illuminates - has been happening for past month. On 10/19/13, trying to stop at a light and when stepped on brakes, the abs light, tcs light, and brake lights all illuminated and the brakes failed - started pulsating. Pavement was dry and did not step on brakes hard or fast - just slowing down for light. Had to pull over to side to avoid hitting car. Took to dealer said was abs computer and not in recall. Extended warranty does not cover abs computer. Service was not performed. Looking to replace computer cheaper. Dealer service check in lady said this is an issue with our year/make, yet there is no recall for failing brakes??.
I was driving down the highway and my vsc trac lights came on along with my engine light. When I got home, I looked at my vehicle manual to determine what had happened. I attempted to remedy the problem as suggested by Toyota, unfortunately, nothing changed. Approximately 2 weeks later my brake light intermittently turned on & off. Less than 5 months earlier, I had my all of my brakes replaced, so I can't imagine that my brakes are faulty. I became alarmed by these electronic miscues - so I went online to explore whether this was a common thread with other Sequoia owners. I discovered very quickly that there are many people who have had problems with their vsc / engine / and brake lights becoming activated. I was hoping this problem might be covered under a recall, but it appears that it is not. I am hoping for a remedy that won't have extensive costs to me.
The abs actuator on my 2003 Toyota Sequoia sr5 caught fire as I was driving home. The first sign of trouble was when I pulled out of a parking spot and switched from reverse to drive and was temporarily unable to accelerate. The brake pedal also shuddered before I regained acceleration. One mile down the road, at a speed of approx. 30 mph, 3 warning lights on the dash illuminated (vsc light, abs light, brake light) followed by the brake pedal going all the way to the floor by itself. Luckily, I wasn't rear-ended, but by this time, smoke was coming from under the hood. Upon further inspection, I could see flames coming from the actuator assembly. The fire department responded and extinguished the fire. The vehicle was deemed a total loss due to the damage to the actuator assembly, wire harness, wiper motor and hood.
Vsc, trac, brake lights.
2003 Toyota Sequoia. (cel) light on. Also (trac off) light on as well as (vsc trac) light on. Sometimes brake light and abs light stay on for days . I had truck in shop 3 wks ago with this problem they said it was oxygen sensor 2 (I believe) had is replaced and light went off. Light is back on again 2 weeks later. Car sputters when accelerating. Doesn't feel safe to drive. Also 2 months prior I had the car in for routine maintenance. Fluids, filters, tires rotated, ect as usual.
The vsc trac light has been on (showing it is off), along with the check engine light. Occasionally the brake light comes on too while driving. Today the abs light came on. The only code that is coming up is for a weak O2 sensor.
When have the car on and running the traction light brake light and vsc light come on at the same time.
My 2003 Toyota Sequoia's abs/vsc/trac lights are on. Now the brake light is coming on intermittently. We've had the rear and front brake pads changed recently. Recently while we were coming to a slow stop at a gas station, I was pressing the brake and it made a loud grinding noise. It felt like the brakes were going to give out. Immediately after, the brake light went on. I turned the engine off and the brake light was gone. A few times while at a stop light, the car will give a little jerk as if being hit from the back. Called Toyota customer care center to file a complaint with them regarding the issue with the lights and brakes issue. Did internet research and this is a very common complaint among Sequoia owners. . . Yet they still don't have a safetly recall on this vehicle. The Toyota representative said there was a recall for the ecu skid control system - but that my VIN number didn't fall under the recall. We have taken it to an independent mechanic and they pulled the following codes: c1223, c1244, c1247 and c1310. It seems that if this is a problem that many Sequoia owners are experiencing, Toyota should fix it. Please help!.
I just purchased a used 2003 Toyota Sequoia sr5 2 days ago from the dealer. Although, the vehicle comes under no warranty, I would like to file a defect that has been reported by other 2003 Toyota Sequoia sr5 owners. The problem trac off light came on, vsc light came on and the brake light came on. I called the dealership and was told that they need to see the vehicle and it was the skid ecu and it needed to be replaced at $1200. 00 for the part and $232. 30 for labor. The service tech told me this is a major safety issue as this is the brain of the braking system and the abs will lock up and the brakes will fail. The lights remained on until the next day. I went on line to research the cause and defect and found out that there are quite a few owners experiencing the problem I have. Please investigate and hoping to resolve this malfunction before people are killed.
Vsc traction control & antilock brake light on. Vehicle skid on wet surface while making turns at normal speed.
I purchased a 2003 Toyota sequioa from thousand oaks Toyota dealer on Jan 22, 2011. I noticed on the third week of driving it, the brake light, and vsc light would go on intermittently while driving. I was told that there was a recall on the aog computer, and was told that this update would most likely filx the problem. After the aog was updated12 Mar 2011, now both the brake light and the vsc track off lights come on, and the brakes shudder to a stop. Unfortunately this does not happen each and everytime I'm driving the car, but rather sporadically. I've taken the SUV back to the dealer, and they seem to be guessing as to the problem, and solution. They have suggested that I need to replace the master cylinder and brake booster, however blogs that I have read on this issue indicate changing these particular parts will not resolve the problem. My personal mechanic has suggested that the master cylinder and brake booster are not the issue, but rather related to the whole breaking computer system. He strongly suggested this is an issue that Toyota should address and fix. That in fact this is a well known problem pertaining to the skid control computer and ecm. I've purchased this vehicle as a family vehicle to transport my family, and I certainly don't feel safe using this vehicle to transport any one in. I strongly believe there should be a recall on this whole breaking mechanism.
Abs, vcs trac light, brake light on/off.
The contact owns a 2003 Toyota Sequoia sr5. While driving approximately 30 mph, an abnormal noise was heard and the brakes became unresponsive. The contact had to depress the brake pedal rapidly until the vehicle responded. The vsc track and brake warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the vsc system needed to be reset. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred on several occasions. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
I purchased this vehicle in 2007 with 43,000 miles. Since then I have driven 30,000 miles in 4 years. When I first pick this car it looked great. The day I picked it up it had a dent in the back, and the dvd player didn’t work and was replaced. There was a water leak that Toyota had to repair and remove an odor associated with it. Later, I brought it in to have my gas tank level indicator repaired but was told that it was time consuming and basically was advised that the dashboard had to be taken out so, I didn’t get it done. I replaced my battery, constantly had my oil changed, as the paint started to peel on my left front fender. Tie rods were replaced that had broken, which was covered by the platinum coverage that I purchased for 1000. 00. I’ve had a vsc logic relay replaced and trim repaired that was lifting off. Now my coverage on the platinum plan was over 4-10-2010 on the 17th of August my rear window would not go down, about three days later the brake light came on. On the 19th the 4 wheel drive control initiated and when it’s initiated to go off the center will continue to be engaged, blinking. Even till today when the vehicle is started up you have to dis-engage the 4 wheel drive. So I took it to Toyota . That’s when this final horror began. I had my oil changed (Sunday), and the next day (Monday) I took it back for service. After they ran a diagnostic trend here’s what I was told: the rear window motor was bad and needed replacing even though they know of the problems associated with the rear windows. 690. 00 master cylinder assembly…………………………. 1165. 00 ccnter differential…………………………………. 2134. 00 serpentine belt and tensioner………………………. 492. 00.
The contact owns a 2003 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that the abs brake warning light illuminated and the brakes became extremely stiff when depressed. The dealer replaced the vehicle skid control sensor but the failure recurred when leaving the dealer. The contact confirmed that he had experienced the failure once before but no repairs were made to the vehicle. The failure and current mileages were 88,000. Updated 6/19/10 updated 07/22/jb.
2003 Toyota Sequoia vsc light (vehicle stability control) and anti skid brakes light illuminate. First intermittently now on all the time. Toyota dealer does not seem to have expertise to scientifically determine the problem. Toyota and dealer seem to be indifferent and also will not honor extended warranty. Been back to dealership on multiple occasions. 2003 sr5 model, garaged since purchase in 2003, lightly driven with 30652 miles on the vehicle. No accident involved. After a careful review of other owners identical complaints this vehicle is unsafe to drive. Design flaw or engineering defect with the stability control system or anti lock brake system. Reporting issue to go on record in the event a recall does get issued.
2003 Toyota Sequoia sr5- common problem like others abs/vsc trac/vsc off sensor lights continue to stay on. Brake light comes on periodically. Brought vehicle in to dealership today for recall for skid control ecu update and it did not fix the problem. Brought this up to dealership today and was asked - what lights - you did not tell us sensor lights were on - it will be $49. 99 to pull vehicle back in and see what the problem is. I am not stupid, the dealer has looked at this vehicle before and all they tell us is we have to replace several sensors - $3000. 00 +. There are too many similar complaints out there with this vehicle and same problem. Toyota does not want to put the funds into fixing a serious defect.
Vehicle traction control, vehicle skid control, anti brake system lights come on when I first turn the car on. The brakes are nearly impossible to push in. After car is warmed up for 15 minutes seem to work fine. The dealership wants me to spend over $1000 for new part.
My Sequoia 2003 with 31,000 miles, it showed brake light on. So I thought the brake pads need to be changed so I did. But the light still came on and off some days. About 4 weeks after, vsc lights and abs lights came on so I took it to the dealer and was told that the computer unit for tracking must be replaced and would cost me part and labor $1650. Dealer pulled up codes c1241, c1231, c1223, and c1203. It seems from multiple identical complaints, Toyota has made a faulty part and should make the recall for the safety of the customer.
