36 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2008

The brake light on my 2003 Toyota Sequoia has been recently coming on. I took it in for new bake pads and turned out I needed new rotors too. Not more than 18 hours later the light is still coming on?? I had a similar problem with the abs light coming on very frequently and had new brake pads put in, a new censor, and still nothing. Finally after I had taken it in on that ball joint recall, the light has never been on again. I really don't feel comfortable driving my kids around with a bright red "brake!" light on.

37 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2008

On 4 occasions dash light indicating vsc and brake problem appeared. Each time the braking of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia was compromised. Each time the truck was brought to Toyota service center for repair. Each Toyota said they could not replicate the problem but replaced skid computer anyway. 8/20/08 problem recurred with dash brake indicator light coming on. Braking again compromised, heard loud "clunking sound" coming from car while driving. Immediately brought to scottsdale Toyota service center. Again, said they could not replicate problem and returned car with no repair. Called Toyota customer service and filed a complaint. Toyota indicated complaint is now on record. Problem with dash brake light coming on and braking diminished recurred again 8/27/08. After shutting engine off, indicator no longer lit and braking back to normal. I fear for both my safety and my families. Simple google search indicates a large number of Sequoia owners are having the same problem.

40 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2008

Toyota Sequoia 2003 85,000 miles. Skid control unit is bad. My abs, trac lights are on. Every so often my brake light will go on too. The brake light will resolve by turning off engine and start again. Other lights stay on. Asked Toyota dealer. They gave me a price of $2600 to fix the problem. They said I need a new skid control and decal sensor.

41 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2007

I was driving my car as usual to church on Sunday 7/29/2007 when I noticed my check engine light, the trac off light and the vsc lights were on after reading the owners manual I determined that the car needed to be taken to Toyota. I took the car in and was told that the repair was not covered and it would cost me almost 2500. 00 to repair. When talking to the associate, he explained to me that the systems that had gone bad had to do with the way the vehicle will be controlled while driving and the anti-lock brakes. When I questioned him about the safety of driving the vehicle he told me that people had been driving without those units for years and my breaks may lock up but don't try to stop while going fast. I informed him that Toyota had replaced the computer board for my breaks earlier (brake lights still coming on) and asked if it was possible that these things were going bad at the same time. He said it was not. I feel that this is a safety hazard to me and my family and should be taken care of. In trying to find some kind of solution to this problem, I read on tundra solutions where others have had this same problem. I was also told that both will need to be replaced at the same time. 2500. 00 is a lot of money for a single parent. Nothing was done to correct this problem. What do I do?.

42 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2005

A few months after we purchased the vehicle in December 2004 we noticed that the traction lights are coming on periodically. We took the car to Toyota service to check the issue and been charged hundreds of dollars for diagnosis and sensor replacement. However the problem was not solved and even got worst: the traction and brake lights were continuously on now. In 2010 we received a notice about a recall with regard to the above issue and brought the car to Toyota dealership located at 4248 morse rd. , columbus, OH 43230. The car was serviced but a few hours afterwards all the lights were on again. When we returned to the same dealership with the same complaint we were told that the recall was on the vehicle computer adjustment, which was done, and that and any additional services will be charged in full. We looked up the recall document and realized that it is clearly specified under remedy that: if the reflash cannot be completed on a particular vehicle, the ecu will be replaced with a new one. This service will be performed free of charge. Since the manufacturer dealership is refusing to comply with the recall requirements we would like to bring the issue to your attention and seek your intervention.

43 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2004

My vsc/vtc lights have been on since I have owned my vehicle. I also have a brake light that comes on constantly. I am only able to reset the brake light by turning off my vehicle and restarting. I have replaced all 4 rotors, calipers and fuel lines more than 3 times since buying the truck new. Brake pads are changed in the front tires continuously! there is a serious problem with the brake system in this truck! I was told by many mechanics that the only way to get the skid control / traction control lights to turn off is to have Toyota figure out what is wrong with the brake system in the Sequoia's. Also, I believe there should be another way to open the back hatch to this vehicle other than the plastic handle on the outside which breaks repeatedly!! if there were an emergency on the inside of the truck and the only exit were the rear of the vehicle, there is no way to open the rear tail gate from inside!!! once that stupid plastic handle on the outside of the vehicle breaks, you cannot open the rear hatch on the Sequoia!! it becomes a death trap in the third row seating area!!.

44 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2004

Control panel dash 'brake' icon keeps coming on intermittently. The only way to get the brake icon on the dash panel not to illuminate is to turn the ignition off. The brake icon illuminates again after driving anywhere between a couple of miles to thousands of miles. A couple of Toyota dealerships could not find any problem with the vehicle. The last time the brake icon illuminated, I drove it to the nearest Toyota dealership and they plugged in a computer analyzer while the brake light was on and the computer did not find any problems (no error codes). This has been going on since I had 20000 miles. I am now at 128,000 miles.

46 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2003

The contact owns a 2003 Toyota Sequoia sr5. When pressure was applied to the brake pedal, the vsc/abs/brake controller warning light illuminated intermittently on the instrument panel and the front end of the vehicle began shaking excessively. The vehicle was taken to the dealer multiple times in which the technicians concluded that the computerized system sensor failed. The technicians replaced the translate computer, the ecu, the transmission temperature sensor, and the brake power booster. None of the repairs have remedied the failure. The manufacturer was investigating the failures. The failure mileage was 9,322 and the current mileage was 122,000. Updated 11/10/09 the consumer stated the vsc/brake and abs lights have been on, since taking ownership of the vehicle. When the lights are on, the front of the vehicle shakes and the vehicle looses power for approximately 2-3 seconds and then regains power again. The skid control computer and brake power booster were replaced. Updated 11/16/09.
