I had my brakes checked out at a shop in mountain home arkansas, mountain motors hwy 5 n. . Asking that they bleed and inspect as necessary ,and check torques. After an hour and twenty minutes I was told that the bleeder on one caliper broke off! they did not replace the bleeder, they said it would be ok! the brakes failed completely less than 1000 later! we were lucky, the pedal went to the floor in a small town in wisconsin. We were moving slow and I coasted into a parking lot! the vehicle had to be towed and $750. 00 later we continued our trip. There is no regulatory agency in arkansas, and the repair shop is ignoring me! can you help? I have reciepts.

The front brake rotors needed replacing the mechanic called me indicating the calipers also needed replacing due to rust. Also the entire frame of the vehicle is rusted he indicated other Toyota customers had the same problem frame corrosion. I called Toyota and filed a complaint, I found out Toyota had replaced tundra frames (same frame as the Sequoia) but they would not take responsibility for my problem. The vehicle has only 89,000 miles and is very well maintained. The frame is in very bad shape I feel it is unsafe to drive. I understand other Toyota Sequoia owners have the same problem. I am very disappointed in a very expensive vehicle. Another reason to buy american!.

I have owned my 2002 Toyota Sequoia since January of 2002. Since then we have had numerous problems with the brakes and now the vsc/abs skid control. For starters the front brake pads and rotors had to be changed and re-surfaced with approximately 30,000 miles on the vehicle. Then the same thing again with approximately 60,000 miles. Before the second repair I did some research and saw there was a TSB for larger calipers and rotors on the vehicle. This is a classic case of cost cutting and under-engineering to increase profit margins. I went to my local Toyota dealership and ask for the repair to be done by Toyota at their expense. They would not do this for me. Now with approximately 99,000 miles on the car I have a failure of the vsc/abs skid control. This is going to be a very expensive repair. I want Toyota to finally own up to my situation. The vsc/abs problem is very frequent among my year model and deserves a recall. Once this system is DE-activated by failure the Sequoia becomes less manuverable and more dangerous to its occupants and all those cars it shares the road with. Please join me and do what you can to make Toyota make both the underpowered rotors and calipers and the abs skid control system mandatory recall items for the 02 Sequoia.
Front brake and rotors are inefficient and wear excessively causing the front end to vibrate and pulse under braking. The consequences of this vibration is a decrease in the efficiency of the abs system and overall braking. Toyota has identified this as a problem in TSB br005-02. I have replaced rotors and pads every two years because of this problem. Toyota fixed the problem in newer model years by adding larger rotors and better calipers, but has ignored this problem.

The contact owns a 2002 Toyota Sequoia. While driving 50 mph he suddenly applied the brakes and noticed that the vehicles stopping distance continued to increase. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the rear calipers needed to be replaced. There were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 149,000.
Excessive heat warped the rotors on the trd brake kit twice in 27000 mi. These brakes were offered as a manufacturer option. The dealer replaced the rotors and the calipers at 7000 mi. Now at 27000 mi the rotors are warped again. The dealer says it will take aprox 30 days to get the parts as they are back ordered. It appears that there is an excessive heat problem. Dealer states that there is 20% remaining on front brake pads. They also stated that this is a known issue.
02 Toyota Sequoia purchased new. Very common complaint. The vsc/abs/traction control lights brake issue. . After reading over numerous posts, forums, complaints, etc determined there isn't a repair and that fishing for a possible repair would be a huge cost. . As time progresses it increases in severity and problems. Now front brakes are constantly grinding! it results in very poor performance, extreme danger and an extremely bad grinding/dragging noise. Recently replaced both front calipers, pads, replaced the brake fluid, bleed the system and still no better. At this point the car is un-drive-able. It is no longer safe as I don't know what to do next. This is such an incredibly disappointing situation that Toyota refuses to address. It is disgusting that Toyota reacts to news reports and sadly a fatality to initiate a massive recall due to floor mats obstructing gas pedals, but when there is a major issue such as the faulty braking system they completely ignore the issue. Toyota does not act as if customer is number one. Their motto the next customer is number 1. . . Those whom have already purchased are locked in and we won't do anything unless we are forced. I pray that no one is injured or dies as a result of this. It's only a matter of time! instead of allocating a huge sum of your budget to pay your attorney's why not step up and do the right thing and actually resolve this issue? 4 recalls for this model and year is pitiful. The number of major or re-occurring problems with this car are so extensive that you should be ashamed. I guess it's difficult to associate with the little people when you're sitting on top of the mountain, but remember what got you to that point, your reputation through customer service. We have no problem kicking you off the mountain. Hopefully someone will wake up.
The brakes on my 2003 Toyota Sequoia are obviously undersized for the vehicle weight. Although factory equipped for towing, this is exasperated when pulling a trailer. There is no way I can stop if following at the recommended interval and the person in front of me stops hard. I have had to veer onto the shoulder numerous times to avoid a rear-end collision, and I maintain a greater distance than is suggested between my vehicle and the vehicle in front of me. I feel this should be a safety recall. Toyota has admitted a design flaw by issuing a technical service bulletin on how to install larger brakes on this vehicle.

Headlight relay goes out causing headlights to shutoff while driving. For the 2nd time in a year. Part was replaced with a new part. Rear door will not latch and rattles. Rear latch assembly was replaced. It does not shut or seal so carbon monoxide enters the cabin. This has happened 3 times. Brake calipers seize up front driver and passenger side, rear driver side.
The contact owns a 2002 Toyota Sequoia. While driving 40 mph, the steering wheel vibrated. The dealer replaced the brakes, rotors, and calipers. The dealer stated that the vehicle had 45% brake functionality. The current mileage was 76,639 and failure mileage was 45,000.
My 2003 Sequoia has 31,000 miles and already the front brakes have been replaced three times, back brakes replaced once and the rotars resurfaced three times. From what I've read on the internet others have had the same problems. My friend who had a 2001 model had the vehicle taken in and the whole brake system replaced due to a TSB. When I called the dealers they told me that the TSB only affected the years 2000 & 2001. However, the 2003 seems to have problems, too! I've never had brake problems until this vehicle. The first time I had the vehicle serviced at 6700 miles the service technician told me my front brakes had premature wearing and accused me of braking too hard but agreed to have to have them replaced under warranty and the rooters were machined. The second time the service engine light came on and at 17,500 miles our front brakes were touching metal to metal. The roters were also resurfaced at a cost of about $500. 00. At that time the service manager convinced us that this was normal I've had other mechanics say it is not. At 30,000 miles I was infromed that my front and back brakes needed to be replaced and the roters again were resurfaced. We went to another mechanic and paid $400. I've read that the braking system on the Sequoia is inadequate, tundras are having similar problems and the calipers are too small thus causing warping and the brakes to wear out prematurely.
Squealing brakes and severe warped rotors causing vibrations while braking. Contacted Toyota and was notified that calipers and rotors are insufficient for the vehicle. TSB issued to repair if under warranty, otherwise cost is $2000. After one week of driving, following a replacement of the rotors and pads, notice an extreme vibration. Discovered that the rotors are heating up real fast. Notified that this condition could cause brakes to fail if not fixed properly. My safety could be jeopardized by this defect. Vehicle cost is $40k with additional costs to correct a known defect discovered after warranty expires. I expect more for my initial expense. Toyota should be responsible to correct these problems before there are any incidences of brake failure causing injury to anyone.
2001 Toyota Sequoia - I have the same problem as hundreds of other Toyota tundra and Sequoia owners: early warping of the front disc rotors which results in severe brake vibrations and loss of stopping power. On two occasions I have lost control of the vehicle. I have had Toyota and independent brake specialists turn the rotors and replace the brake pads on an average of once every 4000 miles since owning the car and now am on my second set of rotors. I was told there was no solution. My warranty expired without Toyota informing me of a service bulletin recommending replacement during my service calls which would mandate replacement of the brake calipers. Now, after the expiration of my warranty they inform me of a TSB that would have replaced it under warranty, but now I have to pay $1400. Several other consumers on mycarstats. Com relate that the replacement calipers do not solve the problem. Toyota is trying to avoid responsibility. It is obvious that this is a faulty brake system. Not a faulty radio or a faulty dome light. People will die. It is your responsibility to do recall this vehicle and mandate Toyota to enact a proper and safe solution now.
Failure: rotor, pads, & calipers. E bought the Toyota Sequoia in 2001 new and within a years time we had to replace the brakes. A year later our Sequoia started to vibrate, and thats when our neighbor told us that they had a TSB on the Sequoia. We took it in and had the rotors, pads, and calipers replaced at no charge. We have had this vehicle for 2 1/2 years now, and the brakes started grinding and the vehicle started vibrating. We took our vehicle back to the dealership and now they are saying its normal wear and tear.
I am having front brake vibration on a 2002 Toyota Sequoia. I see where Toyota has issued a TSB (br00502) on this. My concern is safety. At interstate speeds when I brake the vibration is severe. I have contacted Toyota and they refuse to fix the problem because I have 42,000 miles on my car. Does NHTSA consider this TSB a safety problem?.
While on vacation in florida, our 2002 Toyota Sequoia just froze up. It would not move. Luckily, no one was hurt, however, when the tow truck finally came, the only was to get it up on the flatbed was to drive it on backwards. It turns out all the bolts were loose on the calipers. The only people that had worked on my car was the Toyota dealer after a complaint I had at 15,000 miles. I have since had my Toyota dealer look at it, and they serviced it again after receiving service bulletins on the subject. Get those brakes looked at every time you service your vehicle.
Inadequate braking, interior noises, oil pressure gauge.
2001 Toyota Sequoia, v-8, 2wd. Vehicle vibrates when braking due to warped front rotors. Rotors have been turned, but warp soon after due to heat buildup. The problem has been recognized by Toyota and included in TSB-br000r-02, TSB-br001-03). New rotors and calipers are needed, but dealer will only replace for a fee as my vehicle is out of warranty.
The brakes on my 2002 toyata Sequoia is failing or has failed. There are several complaints on the websites and Toyota have some service bulletins out. I consider this a very serious saftey problem and would like to see an investigation and possible recall on this vehicle.
1 month after repair of brake system, I continue to have severe brake vibration which is caused by undersized rotors and calipers on my 2001 Toyota Sequoia. I have been advised that further repair of existing setup will only result in similar failures.
2001 Toyota Sequoia front caliber siezed, resulting in warping rotors by overheating creates front end braking vibration and less than normal stopping ability while towing.
2002 Toyota Sequoia. The brake rotors and pads wore out quickly. This caused shaking in the steering and extended stopping distance. Consumer took vehicle to the dealership on 12-12-2002, and they replaced the caliper assembly, the front calipers, back plate, and bearings. This problem occurred again on 8-5-2004. However, warranty expired. Consumer took vehicle took vehicle to dealer because the front end vibrated again and there was a grinding noise. The dealer replaced the brakes pads and machined the rotors. The third time was on 7-29-05, the rotors, calipers ,and pads were completely worn out. The vehicle is currently being repaired at the dealership. There is TSB br0052 on this issue. When consumer contacted the manufacturer, they said that they would send an attention notice about the TSB to the dealership. They told consumer when he got to the dealership that he should talk to the customer service representative , who was unavailable at the time he contacted the dealership. As of now the consumer has not been able contact the customer service representative .
At approximately 8000 miles and just 3 months since new, the front whells started to vibrate during braking and dark soot deposits seen on front wheel rims. Vehicle taken to dealer for service check and was told rotors were warped from overheating and was a known problem. Dealer installed brake upgrade package (larger design brake calipers and pads) and turned brake rotors offered free of charge by toyoya. Vehicle has since been driven for 3 months with new upgrade package installed and front wheels are again vibrating same as original design problem.
Problems began at 14,647 miles on brand new vehicle. Extreme pull to the right, shimmie, vibration while driving and braking, loss of vsc abilities. Repeatedly have had to replace tires and brakes because of malfunction. Tires are wearing to the metal in unconventional manner. Toyota repeatedly disregarded and dismissed my concerns, telling me "the roads in az slant to the right, hence your vehicle will pull to the right". After two years of fighting with them regarding this, they now admit to caliper/drum problem but maintain I have to pay to correct it because now I am out of warranty. Even though problems began at 14k miles, they contend this is my problem and not theirs. These are only a few of the problems I have had with this vehicle. This form requests a # of failures; I do not have a number to give you, as this has been a constant, chronic problem that has not ceased. I have had 4 sets of tires and replaced the brakes 4 times.
Consumer owns a 2001 Sequoia and has had several problems with the brakes and rotors. The car started shaking when braking at 20,000 miles. The consumer took the vehicle to an independent shop and they fixed it. Again at 43,000 miles it did the same thing. Again at 55,000 miles, the mechanic had to replace calipers, front pads and disc. The dealer stated brake replacement was not done at the dealership and they were not responsible, sorry. The manufacturer was aware that the braking system was undersized and redesigned the system with larger rotor and calipers.
