1 Brake Light On problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 07/21/2020

I took my Sequoia to have an airbag recall fixed and a recall that has something to do with the skid control module before I took it to have these recalls done my 2 vsc lights (vsc off light and vsc trac light) on the dash were on and so was the engine light I thought maybe the skid control recall would fix the vsc light but now both of the vsc lights are still on and my brake light is now also coming on when I start my vehicle when this happens my brake power is diminished and my vehicle shakes bad when hitting my brakes to slow down to make a turn or just to slow down in general at a stop light or stop sign this happens on the highway or wherever I'm driving my vehicle at the time but as long as the vsc lights and the brake light aren't all lit up on my dashboard at the same time my brakes aren't as diminished but both of the vsc lights stay on and my vehicle still shakes when I'm slowing down to make a turn. Also when both of the vsc lights are on along with the brake light my vehicle wants to spin the back tires when I'm taking off from a dead stop I have to let off the gas completely for a second then proceed.

2 Brake Light On problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 11/15/2019

Trac off vsc trac off lights illuminate. Seems to be faulty sensor. Brake light periodically comes on with no issue with brakes. Brakes have been replaced and everything checked. On 2 occasions when the brake light is on, the antiskid control activates when the car is going less than 30 mph slowing down for a turn. The car is hard to control and shakes. After the car is turned off for awhile the brake light does not illuminate the next time you drive but will come back on randomly. Trac off and vsc trac lights illuminate are on.

3 Brake Light On problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 06/27/2019

While executing a slow speed left turn(10-15mph) I braked lightly to execute another left turn when the parking brake and traction control lights lit up on my dashboard along with diminished brake power and a grinding noise. I applied them again a little more aggressive to stop my vehicle. . Same response. I coasted to about 2-3mph and the lights were still showing but I recovered brake power. At my destination(3 blocks away) I turned off the vehicle. On my return trip back home, there was no sign of dash warning lights and I had full braking power. @home I immediately called Toyota USA and they did not acknowledge any ongoing problem. After going on an online forum I discovered numerous complaints about the same problem. . . Some of them actually going to Toyota for the problem, and some of those stated the problem returned. . My son ran an obdii diagnostic to find numerous codes for the abs ans ecu and brakebooster system. Fixes range from low brake fluid to a complete replacement of said systems costing thousands of dollrs. I feel this is a serious safety issue that Toyota should address. [dateline problem happened 6-27-19. . . ]I have no choice now but to warily trust Toyota to run a diagnostic on my vehicle for solutions. . . . Please help.

4 Brake Light On problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 08/04/2018

Vsc, check engine, brake lights keep coming on. No traction control when button pushed. Driving highway speed traction control beeps when not even appropriate. Have had several times trying to brake, no brakes light comes on almost crashed due to no brakes! I have researched recall my VIN# not listed. This is ridiculous! unsafe! Toyota needs to recall more vehicles. Not a happy Toyota consumer!.

5 Brake Light On problem of the 2006 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 06/04/2018

The vsc trac light, the vsc off light and the brake lights all come on. . . . It caused my brakes to actually fail. I can turn the vehicle off and restart and this seems to reset it. This happens without warning and at various times. It happens quite frequently and especially during the warm summer months. It is extremely dangerous and would happily have it fixed if someone could tell what the exact fix is?.

6 Brake Light On problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 04/15/2018

The vsc trac, vsc off, brake light and abs light are all on on the dash. This is known problem with 1st generation Toyota Sequoia's. Toyota issued a recall on the 03 models for this issue and provided a fix at their expense. The same issue occurs in other model years but there is no open recall for it. Dealership wants approximately $2,000 to replace the skid control ecu.

7 Brake Light On problem of the 2018 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 02/02/2018

I am having a recurrent problem with my 2018 Sequoia in that I am consistently getting warning lights and alarms going off for brake warning, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitor malfunction and front camera malfunction. it has been in the shop 5 times and they keep saying there are computer gliches and keepnupdating the software over and over again. Toyota sent down a tech from denver to take a look at it and instead of repairing the problem, they have disarmed all of my alarms because what they said was that they were set too sensitive?! this is a huge safety issue as two of the times that the brake warning flashes the truck starts to slow itself down. What if this happens when an 18-wheelerbis behind me? the brake lights don't come on to let them know that my vehicle is slowing down!! I am very scared of driving this vehicle and Toyota says it's safe to drive? I'm at a loss as what to do now given that all of these software updates are being done and alarms are disabled I feel like I'm driving in a vehicle that is unsafe!!.

8 Brake Light On problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 10/04/2017

Defective abs system since initial purchase. At first, an intermittent problem but now a safety hazard. Brake light, vsc light &trac light constantly are on & now on several occasions going only 10 mph brakes are affected where there is a loud grinding noise & brakes don't function properly. I was told the yaw sensor would take care of this costing $880, but it didn't; now its the skid control another $875 which I agreed to & when calling to get status of my car, I'm told it didn't fix the issue & now it's the booster another $1,000 which I'm not paying. This should be a recall as this is issue makes it a very unsafe vehicle to drive. My car is still sitting in the shop and I don't know what to do at this point.

9 Brake Light On problem of the 2006 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 09/13/2017

My car has been having this problem for several months and I decided to bring it in to get it checked and fixed. My signals for the brake light, trac off lights and vsc trace lights all go on at the same time periodically as I am driving anywhere on the freeway or the street, and disapear periodically. I thought I had fixed everything when they diagnosed 5 things on my vehicle that needed to be fixed. One of them was my mass air flow sensors that are making my lights go on and off. To which I went ahead and let them fix it and many other things and still it is not fixed and continues to go on and off. This is very dangerous because it's messing with my brake system.

10 Brake Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 07/10/2017

Code 1223 1247 1360 brake light trac off vsc trac all come on this seams to be problem with thousands of 2003 - 2005 Sequoia brake sometimes make noise so you not sure brakes are good when car in motion Sequoia has 78000 miles.

11 Brake Light On problem of the 2001 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 04/01/2017

While driving our 01 Sequoia sr5 with only 85,000 miles on side streets and highways at speeds ranging from 5mph to 70 mph, the SUV's braking system suddenly engages for no reason while the veh. Is in motion. The vsc, check engine lights come on along with the alerting sound. When the brakes engage, the veh. Veers to the right, the steering wheel vibrates and the veh. Goes into a skid due to the brakes being suddenly engaged. The veh. Also decelerates suddenly as if it has lost power. This is dangerous for other drivers who can't tell if you are braking because there are no brake lights to be seen to prevent a collision. Thankfully we have been able to react defensively and avoid collisions with other veh. 's. And roadside objects. We have seen several suggestions as to the fix for this problem like the yaw rate sensor being replaced. The cost of the part is $568. 00 without the install cost. This problem is a safety issue and if it occurs at the wrong time, a preventable tragedy is going to occur. I have seen well over 50 complaints on this from other owners and a closed NHTSA investigation on this exact issue. They recalled the 2003 Sequoia for the same issue. Toyota needs to fix this in all model years before a life is lost. . Read more...

12 Brake Light On problem of the 2006 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 08/05/2016

The vsc trac light, the vsc off light and the brake lights all come on. . . . It caused my brakes to actually fail. I can turn the the vehicle off and restart and this seems to reset it. This happens without warning and at various times. This has happened more than once. I took vehicle to dealer, they replaced a $200 part and it did not help. It's happened again. I've read many many reports of this online. Why no recall. It's a miracle nobody has died. Brake failure???? seriously.

13 Brake Light On problem of the 2001 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 05/01/2016

My 2001 sequioa, suddenly showing the vsc lights and brake lights at the same time! there is a very rough feeling when I'm driving the car like something in the undercarriage is very wrong. There is a twice beep and the car, will suddenly pull to the left momentarily and then release itself but the lights never go out unless car is off. I,I can feel the brakes like shaking. I s scary and this happen like 4 times. The last is in the highway. Is make a noise like a scratch metal. I know I'm not the first one . Please Toyota fix the problem.

14 Brake Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 05/01/2016

I experienced a problem with engine warning and vsc trac off lights going on. The check engine light also came on. My family and I were on a trip and our Sequoia all of a sudden lost power. It slowed down dramatically even though the engine was fine. It was a very dangerous situation because we were on an interstate where the speed is 70 mph. I also experienced all the brakes making a massive grinding noise while going slow into a restaurant. (the brakes have less than 3000 miles on them. ) the parking brake light also comes on periodically.

15 Brake Light On problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 01/12/2016

While I was driving at an approximate speed of 40 mph, I noticed my brake, trac off, vsc trac, engine light all came on at once. I noticed that braking was not as responsive (increased braking distance; abs doesn't seem to be engaging) and when speeding to over 50 mph, the vehicle feels as if it is slowing itself down. It is currently an expected heavy rainfall season where I am and having the vehicle in this state is very dangerous especially when the brakes are not working effectively or when it starts to slow itself down suddenly. After shutting the vehicle down and restarting it after about 2 hours, the lights mentioned are still illuminated except the brake light. After reading all the other similar complaints, I am surprised Toyota is not paying for all aspects of this defect associated with the vehicle and not driver misuse.

16 Brake Light On problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 10/27/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 2003 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle the traction off, vsc and brake sensor lights had illuminated and when pressing the brake pedal the vehicle would not immediately stop and the breaking distance was extended. The contact also indicated that the vehicle would sometimes hesitate to accelerate. The cause of the failures were not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was undetermined.

17 Brake Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 10/08/2015

While driving, the check engine light, vsc light, brake light all came on. Vehicle would not accelerate past 40 mph. Diagnostic codes c1223, c1247, c1310 came back. Checking the internet, this is a common issue with this vehicle and a recall should be issued.

18 Brake Light On problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 10/04/2015

Starting in December of 2014 my 2003 Toyota Sequoia has had the brake light coming on and when applying the breaks having shaking in the front end. I took my vehicle into Toyota and they said it was the wheel speed sensor, ecu. They replaced the skid control ecu and the right rear speed sensor. Costing me 1196. 90. Then in March the brake light started coming on and off again periodically. It is now October 2015 and on the way home from church the brake lights and vsc and traction control , and engine lights keep coming on. I was turning and the engine stalled and nearly died in one of the busiest intersections. I have since parked it in the driveway and will have to get someone over here to look at it because I do not feel safe or comfortable driving this vehicle.

19 Brake Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

Tonight when backing out of my driveway I heard a loud grinding noise and my brake pedal was very hard to push. The brake light, trac off and vsc trac lights all were on. I parked the vehicle and cycled the engine and as soon as I drove away it happened again. I have had problems with just the brake light coming on then going off after turning off the key but this is the first time all 3 have come on and I have had no brakes at all. I have researched and noticed this is a common problem and yet Toyota has failed to issue a recall on this problem. I was very lucky my wife was not driving the car with my daughter in the vehicle.

20 Brake Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 09/12/2015

I was traveling about 30 mph and the vsc off, vsc trac, e brake light all came on at the same time and will not shut off. They have been on for about a week now. Cannot get them to turn off.

21 Brake Light On problem of the 2012 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 08/06/2015

As I was driving, the anti-slip brake light came on, followed immediately by the brake light. The conditions were dry and I was on a straight city street so there was no reason for it to light up. Since it was concerning the braking system, I pulled into a parking lot as soon as I was able. The brakes seemed to be working properly. My owners manual gave me steps to reset it, none of which worked. At the dealership, they finally figured out it was the anti-skid brake ecu. I was told it could be driven but I wouldn't have the anti-skid technology if I were to ever need to slam on my brakes or if I were in slippery conditions. The vehicle is 3 years old and had less than 60 k miles on it at the time. It's a $3000 repair. When I looked into it, there are reports online dating back to 2008 for this type of failure. I'm sure there are a lot of people who cannot afford this type of repair and instead choose to drive the vehicle without the advanced safety technology. I think there Toyota should issue a recall. Thank you.

22 Brake Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 08/03/2015

The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that the brake warning light illuminated. In addition, the vsc track off and the check engine warning lights illuminated. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 103,000.

23 Brake Light On problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 06/15/2015

Two months after purchasing the vehicle, vsc and trac off lights became illuminated, no other symptoms. Stayed on for 2 days then disappeared again. Two months later the brake light had become illuminated, put it in park to load passengers, and when returned to drive, the vsc and trac off lights were illuminated and a grinding sound was heard when applying brakes - along with the vehicle pulling to the right. Turned the car off, checked fluids and fuses, when restarted only brake light was illuminated and car appeared to be driving normally. Took it in to Toyota today to have the problem checked out as the brake light is still on, and the grinding noise was a concern - and am told the brake booster needs to be replaced. In all my research on this, I'm very concerned as it appears to be quite a common problem, and on a search of my VIN it says that my vehicle is not affected by the recall (although I was told at the dealer that my ecu was 'flashed to the updated programming') current cost quoted is $1,508 - but was also told that once the booster is installed they have to re-run their check and it may not be the only problem. This is very disappointing as we own 2 other Toyotas, and purchased this car as a daily driver to take our children to school, everything I've seen regarding these issues leaves me very concerned for their safety.

24 Brake Light On problem of the 2004 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 06/04/2015

My 2004 Toyota Sequoia experienced brake failure at 10 miles per hour. I was looking to make a turn at the light and my vehicle gave me a huge jerk and the brakes begin to give out. After the brake failure the vs and brakes light came on. I have seen a lot of people posting this problem with there vehicle. I am looking for help since my children drive my vehicle sometimes. Help!!! I brought this vehicle because of it's reputation. However, after seeing all the issues with this vehicle and Toyota refusal to repair the problem, my family will be looking else where.

25 Brake Light On problem of the 2004 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 05/20/2015

I bought my car used two weeks ago from an individual. I noticed on my way home that the seatbelt light would come on and then go back off while I was driving, even though I was wearing my seatbelt. A few days later, as I was pulling into my daughter's driveway, the brake light came on. I turned the car off, and the next time I started up, the light didn't come on. It came on again several days later while my husband was driving the car. The next light to come on was my fuel light. The gauge said my car was on empty, and I knew I had at least half a tank of gas. I began to grow concerned with the vehicle, so I took it to my Toyota dealer yesterday. They told me I needed a new seatbelt clip and a fuel sensor, which are "minor", but that I also needed a new master cylinder, brake pads and rotors, and several other brake-related issues, plus there is a problem with the skid control - all to the tune of $5,900. I decided to get a second opinion, but in the meantime, in researching this particular vehicle, I saw many people have posted comments regarding the skid control/brake system on 2002-2004 Sequoias. Apparently a recall was issued for the model year 2003, but nothing has been done to help owners of 2004 models, and I am wondering why.

26 Brake Light On problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 01/04/2015

When driving on the freeway the abs, vsc trac and brake light all came on at once. Since then I notice a problem when I brake at higher speeds the car seems to shake as though the abs is not being applied properly. The dealership said there was a recall on this which was a simple software update. Now the dealership tells me these parts need to be replaced. How do I know that a simple update is not the fix or that the new parts wont have a similar issue in the meantime I am stuck with a vehicle that's not braking properly when it seems this should be fixed by the manufacture.

27 Brake Light On problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 12/14/2014

The contact owns a 2002 Toyota Sequoia. While driving approximately 70 mph, the vsc, abs, trac, and brake warning lights sporadically illuminated. As a result, the vehicle pulsated and veered to the right. The contact stated that the vehicle was exhibiting the same failure as listed in NHTSA campaign number: 10v176000 (electronic stability control, traction control system). The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the sas sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 121,463.

28 Brake Light On problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 11/11/2014

Nhtsa's conclusion that the sas ecu failure associated with Toyota Sequoias built from 2002-2003 under NHTSA investigation # 10v176000 is seriously flawed. While typically the sudden failure to accelerate or fail to brake associated with this issue is only annoying, it can be catastrophic under the right circumstances. For instance we had it happen in a parking lot when beginning to accelerate and then noticing a car pulling out quickly in our path. Our brakes failed, the traction and brake warning lights lit, and we barely missed the car as it noticed us coming at it and quickly got out of the way. What if the car hadn't noticed in time to pull away quickly and avoid our uncontrollable car? what if it were a child running out between cars? what if it were to happen during our low speed accelerating and braking when we drop our kids off at school and other kids are walking among the cars now and then? the conclusion that it is not a serious safety issue due to the speeds involved in most incidents reported is simply ignorant or recklessly risk tolerant. Does someone actually have to die before this is a serious safety issue? we will try to get the dealer to make this repair but since their are "no active recalls" listed on Toyota's website for this or on NHTSA's, I can only hope they will fix it.

29 Brake Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 10/04/2014

Vsc trac, abs and brake alerts light up on dash board, noise when vehicle is initially turned on, the noise disappears after a few minutes but the alerts stay on. The vehicle also loses power (but the engine keeps running, just no power to accelerate) if I make a quick turn, loss of power lasts for a few seconds then turns back on.

30 Brake Light On problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 07/31/2014

The vsc, and trac, and brake lights all lit up while coming into an intersection, where I heard a grinding clunking noise in the drive train, as I tried to stop the vehichle, coasted through the intersection, made others braking to avoid me as I steered away from them. This has happened intermittently over the years but this was the scariest, as it happened going into an intersection. It has happened backing out of our driveway several times, on the highway several times. Toyota doesn't want to tie this issue to the recall regarding the vsc ecu trac light recall from several years ago. I've tried unsuccessfully to escalate this issue with Toyota motor CO.

31 Brake Light On problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 07/31/2014

We bought this 2003 Sequoia limited 2 wheel drive new, and it has been a good car over all. But the vsc tracs, brake lights have flashed on and off sporadically at different speeds, when driving and or when braking. They usually don't effect the car, but recently we have experienced them all coming on when braking, and we seem to loose power and the power steering is lost momentarily until we come to a stop, and shut it off for a few minutes. This happened most recently last week when coming into an intersection driving about 30mph, and all of the vsc, trac, and brake lights abruptly came on, there was a grinding noise, and it seemed to have lost electrical power, trying to come to a stop, I could not stop in time for the intersection, but was lucky enough to avoid being hit by cross traffic, it could have been a lot worse. It sounded like something fell apart underneath. I inspected it and saw nothing, but know that this is a major safety issue that Toyota should address and pay for being a recall item. I called the Toyota hotline and was given a case number for this issue, which was a recall in 2010. Took it to the dealer, and they weren't able to replicate the issue. Stated it was a bad computer, and some vsc module sensor? didn't state Toyota would cover the cost or help with the cost. Even though this has been a known issue with Toyota Sequoia's for years, and was a recall item. This is a safety issue that could result in a major accident. Why would Toyota not cover the cost to fix this if it is a recall item? I want it fixed but with the miles I have on it, don't want to spend much money on it, especially an item that is a recall problem with many like mine. What should I do? wait to have an accident, hire a lawyer, and sue? frustrated Toyota owner in texas.

32 Brake Light On problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 07/23/2014

The vsc off/ trac off and check engine and brake light all came on. The brake started to jump and the car pulled hare to the left. I turn the car off and back on the problem went a way but the lights all came back on. However there are a lot of people having this problem with their Sequoia and I have seen no safety recall for this.

33 Brake Light On problem of the 2006 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 07/15/2014

While driving at low speeds the vehicle experienced a momentary loss of power and a grinding/vibrating of the brakes while in motion. The trac off and vsc trac warning lights came on along with the brake light. The warning lights and vibrating of the brakes could only be reset by turning the ignition off and restarting the vehicle. It happened twice in the last 12 hours.

34 Brake Light On problem of the 2004 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 07/10/2014

Sometimes while driving on freeway my brakes light warning on the dashboard would come on and would only turn off the light if I turn off the engine. Many times on street speed (10-45 mph) if the vsc, track off and brake light comes on at the same time, the car will loose power on the brakes and will have a grinding and vibrating noise. I went to a Toyota dealer and told me bring the car when it happen again so they could do a diagnostic test. Why wait for something serious to happened before they could check my car?.

35 Brake Light On problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 06/27/2014

At random times, the vsc and brake lights will come on. When this happens, the brakes do not work properly. They severely grind and stopping is nearly impossible. The only solution is to completely turn the car off and restart. I have taken my vehicle to Toyota many time over the course of several years. This is very dangerous as I have children riding in the vehicle!! Toyota either said there is nothing wrong or that a sensor will need to be replaced which costs approximately $1600. 00. This is a common issue with older Sequoias and should be a recall. It should be free of charge to the owner! I should not have to pay for something Toyota did not do right!.
