I was driving my 2002 Toyota Sequoia on the freeway at approximately 65 mph on the [xxx] when suddenly the vehicle made a beeping noise and the vsc light and trac light came on. The vehicle suddenly lost control in the wheels and tires and suddenly decelerated out-of-nowhere. Due to the sudden, abrupt movement and loss of control, the vehicle nearly flipped over. It was an extremely dangerous, possibly life-threatening situation. Thankfully, I was attentive and alert and had both hands on the wheel and was able to get the vehicle in control. This happened before two times and this would be the third time. I have taken the vehicle to several different auto repair shops and they have been unable to pin point and fix the problem. Because this issue continues to happen and puts me into dangerous situations repeatedly, I firmly believe that this is a bigger malfunctioning/defect problem that Toyota needs to address and fix. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Able to lock car while keys are in the front cup holders. Have to close rear hatch manually. Dash button, key fob button and door button do not work. Others have been complaining about this on the internet. Driver side door has to be forced to roll up. Pull button to roll up. Goes up and then opens back up about two thirds of the way.

The pinch sensor of tailgate prevents the tailgate from closing.
My wife returned home and exited the car leaving her key inside the car. She went to open the backdoor to get our infant son out and the car had locked itself. She had to call me at work so that I could unlock the car with the app.
It has happened 3 times, every time I have been driving and an alert with flash on the dash that there is an object in the road and it will brake check me, but there isn't anything infront of the vehicle. One time it happened getting off the highway and 2 other times it has happened when I was in a residential area. 2 out of 3 times, a vehicle behind me had to swerve to the shoulder of the road, so they didn't rear end me. Second issue, the hybrid system is not working. The vehicle was parked and when I went to put it in drive, the alert popped up and I had to turn the car off and restart. Third issue, the lane assistance. While driving in the middle lane and going around a 20 or 30 degree right turn, the vehicle pulled me into the left lane, almost side swiping the vehicle next to me.
No accident. Just frame issues. If you can. Can I please get a voucher for frame repair. I really like this SUV. Thank you!.

Traction control warning lights, vsc warning lights. These lights have been on for 2 years, resulting in check engine light on. I have replaced every sensor possible, fuses, gas cap, and reset the system multiple times but can not get these lights to stay off. Since lights have been on, when driving on a muddy, wet, icy or slippery road way, my steering locks up, the brakes stop working and there is complete loss of vehicle control. All without warning. This is an extreme hazard and very dangerous. This has been on going since 2017 and is still a major problem . It started at around 200,000 miles.

Doors not locking with key fob. Have to manually lock all doors by hand. Sometimes the key fob arms the security and sometimes it doesn’t. I’ve replaced the key fob and tried to program new fob but cannot program, hooked up a scanner to run for codes and 1 showed a (b1242 - wireless door lock tuner circuit).

Took 2004 Sequoia to kings Toyota for the airbag recall as well as diagnostic eval of vsc abs lights issue. Received a phone call that the tech could not determine the electrical problem unless we paid an additional $360 for more time to diagnose and that the frame was rusted through with large holes. Wondered if we wanted to pursue the electrical issue with the larger safety issue with the frame. Original issue occurred with lights coming on (had happened several times previously) followed by the power windows ceasing to work, several hours later the wipers and window seemed sluggish and the car lost all power. Had to jump the car several times to get off the road and then when jumping no longer worked, we had to push the vehicle into a church parking lot. After being told by mr. Howard that they don't see vehicles come into service with large holes in the frame, I researched online and found that 10s of thousands of Toyota trucks, including 05-08 Sequoias, have been recalled - crc applied and frames replaced as well as Toyota buying back 95-00 trucks with rusted frames for 1. 5 times the blue book value. 04 Sequoias mentioned more than 300 times for the vsc, tailgate and rusted frame issues that are prevalent in this model - my vehicle has all 3. Spoke with colin, the service manager, who reiterated what I found online. Toyota will do nothing since the recall is closed and did not include the 04 models.

Tl the contact owns a 2001 Toyota Sequoia. While driving 45 mph, the vehicle control, abs, vcs, traction control, and stability warning indicators illuminated. The failures caused the vehicle to brake intermittently. The contact had to turn the vehicle off and on in order to resume normal operation. The vehicle was taken to groove Toyota (5460 s broadway, englewood, CO 80113, (303) 800-9063) to be diagnosed, but the cause of the failures was not determined. The vehicle was not repaired and the failures recurred multiple times. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 100,056.
The door lock actuator on each of the doors on the SUV have failed. The doors will not lock/unlock without using the key, and the only door with key access is the driver's door. The doors can be locked/unlocked from inside. The replacement parts seem excessively high, and it appears that this is a common occurrence on Toyota vehicles. Since the actuator is part of the door latch, I am concerned that the actuator failure may lead to a latch problem. This occurs when the vehicle is at rest.

I purchased this vehicle new from mark miller Toyota on fri Dec 29th, left the dealership at 12:10pm with 39 miles on it. Ran a few errands and showed my friends, we went to leave after eating some food and at 45 miles in my odo I got 2 error messages. "blind spot monitor malfuction, visit your dealer" and "rear cross traffic alert malfunction, visit your dealer". I had only put 6 miles on this and I contacted the dealership right away at 6:47 pm and was told that the service dept wouldn't hang around for me to get there in 10 mins or less and that I could bring it in another day or to any dealership. Light has come on 2 more times since, the 3rd time total, I drove it to a different dealership(that's closer to me) but they had no one available to look at it. The service lady did see it but all she did was make an appt for me for wed Jan 3rd to have it look at. I've talked to another gentleman through a forum and he had this same problem and sent me the name of his investigator at your offices. His name is ajit alkondon.

The vehicle has a malfunction on the rear cross traffic, blind spot monitor and possible adaptive cruise control - at only 30 miles.
Issue: safety features failing at less than 500 miles problem statement: at less than 500 miles the safety sensors ( collision prevention, cruise control adaptable speed, rear cross traffic, blind spot monitor ) are failing repeatedly. Dealer has contacted Toyota for support. No eta at present.
I have a safety issue with my vehicle that Toyota is not covering under warranty and I think it should be a recall. I have had 3 door lock actuators fail and the doors will not lock or unlock automatically. You can not open the door. In the event of a crash you cannot open the door safely to exit the vehicle in a timely manner. This is not safe. The vehicle is less than 5 years old and I don't think this kind of safety part should be that prone to fail.

The contact owns a 2002 Toyota Sequoia. While driving various speeds, the brake system engaged independently. A crash did not occur. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer where it was diagnosed that the electronic control unit module failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
The contact owns a 2002 Toyota Sequoia. While driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle stability control and traction control warning indicators illuminated. In addition, the vehicle decelerated and braked independently. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer and was not repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. My father and I were leaving frys electronics on Friday may 19, 2017. As we turned from the fry's parking lot to head on the 60 fwy all of a sudden the vsc started beeping and just as we we picking up speed(50mph) the truck started to swerve while at the same time a grinding sound went off my father pushed the vsc off switch but did not have any effect on what was happening. When the beeping had stopped both vsc off and vsc lights had stayed on and the vehicle seemed to be running ok and ever since that day whenever we use the Sequoia the lights come on and stay on during the trip on occasions it doesn't turn on after about 5 mins the beeping goes on and vehicle engine immediately slows and grinding sound goes on and causes vehicle to swerve and my father is a bit elderly so as a son I am putting in this complaint in hopes of some assistance in repairs this malfunction. My parents are retired and do not have an good income, is there any possible way Toyota can fix this malfunction which seems to be quite a problem amoungst Sequoia owners thank you for your time and patience I will await a response thank you. I would also like to apologize to the reader for the lack of my letter skills and hope I was able to express the problem for you to understand.
The contact owns a 2004 Toyota Sequoia. While driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact stated that the entire instrument panel warning console illuminated and the brakes shook. The vehicle was diagnosed, but the dealer could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall related to the failure. The failure mileage was 57,000.
Check engine light on, vsc and trac lights on - truck enters limp mode due to faulty secondary air intake system for emissions system. This is a known issue for Sequoias and tundras, however not yet covered for the 2007 model year! dealer part costs $1,700. Unless Toyota recieves enough case problems for 2007 year, they will not extend warranty for parts, which they have done for all other affected years.
Door passanger light and glove box and ash tray lights does not work.

2002 Toyota Sequoial has the vsc and vsc trac lights are on. When I started my vehicle they were off, then they just stay on steady.
My vsc trac, trac off and check engine lights all came on yesterday. I was driving so I'm not sure if they all came on at the same time or not. The brake does not over ride cruise control on highway. So it will continue gas up even you use brake under cruise control mode. This is pretty disappointing since this problem has been seen all the way back to the first generation.
The contact owns a 2016 Toyota Sequoia. While driving approximately 55 mph, the driver adjusted the driver's seat with the electronic control functions. Suddenly, the vehicle lunged forward and backwards with an unintended acceleration. The driver was uncertain how the failure occured. The vehicle was to be taken to a dealer for further inspection and diagnosis. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no remedy other than advising the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 965.

The secondary air injection pump has gone out. This particular component has a know defect issue with Toyota. Toyota extended the warranty on 2008-2010 Sequoias with the exact same engine as my 2007 but they will not cover my vehicle. If they know there is an issue and they are will to extend the warranty of some vehicles, they should cover all vehicles with the same engine types because they are all going to have the same issue! this repair can cost the consumer up to $3600. This is a scam in my opinion.
The rear door has continued to have issues repeatedly. The handle to open the rear door broke once and had to be replaced in order to open the door. The rear wiper has stopped working severall times, and the window in the rear door has stopped working multiple times despite repeated repairs.
The vsc trac & vsc off light blinks on and off causing car to cut on and off. When tis happen the car was in motion. I just purcased car the dealer said to replace the accelerator pedal position sensor of course it is not covered under warranty and because it happened right after 30 days of purchase it falls on me.
Vsc trac off, the vehicle looses power completely and there is a grinding noise. My wife was driving on the interstate and lost power. Luckily, she was not in traffic. Restarted and made it home. The vsc trac off lights are still on. Very dangerous if the vehicle loosed power completely driving 70 mph on the interstate.
The vsc off, vsc trac, brake light, and abs indiator lights on the dash board, stay on all of the time. I have been told the vsc light problem is at least a $700 fix. These lights have come on and never go off.
Vsc trac/ vsc off, abs, brake lighs come on the vsc trac and the vsc off light come on and off due to a faulty abs sensor. Toyota dealer can not figure out why or how this faulty light comes on. Did a research online and hundreds of thousand of other Toyota Sequoia owner had the same issues.
Back door and window do not work.
With the car engine on clean smoke started to come from the drivers seat heating switch area, the smoke dissipated after about 30 seconds when I turned the engine off. There have not been any malfunctions since then.
Warning lights on the dash board come on periodically for no apparent reason. I maintain the car properly with regular oil changes and manufacturer recommended service. They go off on their own. My mechanic has no idea what causes this. It happens standing still, in motion or just by starting the vehicle.
