In July of last year, my 2002 Toyota Sequoia experienced car trouble. The vehicle experienced 3 major problems. First, the rear window on the back of the vehicle would suddenly open all by itself. This self opening would occur at numerous times. The window would open when the vehicle was being driven, when it was stationary or even while it was unoccupied. The scariest however, was when the vehicle was being driven. Fortunately for me and my family no one was injured. The second major problem occurred with the door locks. The locks would lock and unlock themselves repeatedly without anyone touching them. This locking/unlocking would again take place when the vehicle was being driven, stationary or even unoccupied. The last complaint is that the gas gauge will drop to empty without any reason so there are many times that I do not know how much gasoline I have left in the tank. This too is occurring on a random basis. It's like the vehicle is haunted.

The contact owns a 2003 Toyota Sequoia. While driving between 5-10 mph on normal road conditions, the contact heard a noise and felt excessive vibration when the brake pedal was depressed. The failure occurs whenever the vehicle is in operation. The traction control and vsc warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel and remained lit until the engine was turned off. The vehicle was taken to the authorized dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician stated that the failure was related to the anti-skid computer system and recommended that it be replaced. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 60,000 and current mileage was 63,000.

The contact owns a 2001 Toyota Sequoia. While driving 65 mph there was a loud thump in the right front passenger side wheel area, automatically the right front brake was applied . The vsc off and traction lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact depressed the brake pedal and released it, which allowed the front passenger side brake to release and the vehicle to drive normally again. Four days prior to the failure, the contact noticed that the vsc off and traction lights would illuminate while driving, but then dim after the vehicle was restarted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they disabled the vsc sensor to prevent the failure from recurring. The current mileage was 47,000 and failure mileage was 44,700. Updated 09/10/08. 2003 Sequoia bought in Nov 2002. Currently only have 20,474 miles. 1-1/2 yrs after buying car, brake light kept coming on. Took to 3 different dealership and no one could figure out what was wrong. Finally, on 4th attempt, they said it was skid control board. They initially tried to charge me to fix it, but ended up doing under "good will. " now, a few months later, the abs, vsc and track lights are coming on and the dealership said I need to replace the yaw sensor. They know and I know it is all related to the skid control system, but they want to charge 423. 00 + tax to replace it. I think it should be free, considering the common problem they have with the skid control system. My warranty has expired and I don't have an extended warranty.
2003 Toyota Sequoia: vsc, abs and brake lights warning lights are on, repair was more than $600. Jb.
My wife and I got our 2002 Toyota Sequoia brand new in 2002. Just this past week, the vsc and abs light comes on. We took it to the local Toyota dealer and found not only do those lights need replacing but also the brake booster. Total cost about $1900. I've done research on this problem on the web and found on a website, tundrasolutions. Com, there were a number of people with the same problem. Anywhere from 50k to 80k miles on their 2002 Sequoia and the same problem happens. When we took it to Toyota, they said that was a very rare problem for a car with that mileage. Toyota, the manufacture, or the local dealer would not take any responsibility for the parts and that it wasn't faulty parts. We got it fixed today. The local dealer knocked off 25% of the price. We feel like this is a problem Toyota needs to pay in full. If this many are having this problem, then there's a problem.
The contact owns a 2003 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that the abs/dsc warning light intermittently illuminated on the instrument panel. The dealer assured the contact that the issue was nothing to worry about and was not a big deal. The issue was later discovered to be a communication error between the skid control and the ecm. The service dealer stated that the ecm should be replaced; however, the steering angle on the vehicle was also off and a re-calibration was performed. Afterwards, while driving between 30-40 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal and heard a loud thumping noise. She felt vibrations coming from the brake pedal. While slowing down and switching from braking to acceleration, the vehicle hesitated to accelerate and coasted momentarily until reaching full acceleration. The failure mileage was 83,106 and current mileage was 99,000.
The vsc and trac trouble lights are coming on. The car occasionally thinks that we are skidding out of control and begins pulsating the brakes. This is very dangerous. The failure codes in the computer indicate that the skid control ecu needs to be replaced. This is expensive and not covered by warranty, but should be covered by Toyota via a safety recall with an improved version. I have found a lot of complaints on the internet by owners having the same problem.
Vsc/abs/skid light on my 03' Sequoia began coming on Nov. 06. I went to the dealership and they said it was the ecu skid control computer and reset it. They said the lights might come back on and they have on and off for the last year. Also, noticed issues w/ the break skidding even though I recently had brakes replaced. Now I have to pay $1500 to have the ecu skid control computer replaced and the car only has 62k miles on it. Way to early to start replacing electronic parts.
1)took my 2002 Toyota Sequoia to the dealer to perform 50,000 mile service. They performed the service and replaced the battery. When picking up the car I noticed vehicle skid control (vsc) and abs lights were off. 2) I asked the dealer to check this problem and they said that the ecu (computer) that controls these safety systems had failed itself and disabled the above mentioned safety features. 3) the dealer wants $2300 from me to fix this problem.
Vsc light comes on periodically for no reason.
Trac off and vsc trac lights intermittently turn on, sometimes when vehicle is in motion and sometimes when vehicle is in idle. While in motion, if trac off and vsc trac lights turn on, beeping occurs, grinding or "whirring" noises are audible and brakes cannot be depressed. Since the first incident, I've changed the rear differential oil and found small metal bits in the oil.
The consumer stated the vsc warning light illuminated. The dealer believed the problem was the yaw rate sensor. The check engine light illuminated, the dealer told the consumer there was nothing wrong, and it was probably a loose gas cap. While driving, the vsc activated, the consumer was able to gain control of the vehicle. Updated 09/15/06.
(1)the dashboard lights for abs, vsc, & traction control flickered, and then remained on permanently. (2)the abs and vsc have malfunctioned which seriously affects the braking & stability control of the vehicle in emergency handling situations, endangering person(s) in vehicle. (3)right Toyota in az could not determine problem, although technician stated this was a common failure of the 2002 Sequoia.
The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Sequoia. The brake lights, check engine light, and vcs track light illuminated intermittently on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer approximately nine times. The dealer replaced the brake booster the first time, checked the emissions and cleared the codes the second time, cleared the code the third time, replaced the fuel filter neck the fourth time, and replaced the brake booster again the fifth time. While driving at an unknown speed, the brakes failed and the dealer replaced the computer skid control. The current mileage was 20,000 and failure mileage was 6,802.

Dashboard lights came on ie. Gas light comes on and gas indicator went to empty regardless of the amount of gas in the tank, brake light cam ES on. All of this is sporatic and has no pattern. We have friends that the same thing happens on thier 2004 Sequoia.

The contact owns a 2003 Toyota Sequoia sr5. When pressure was applied to the brake pedal, the vsc/abs/brake controller warning light illuminated intermittently on the instrument panel and the front end of the vehicle began shaking excessively. The vehicle was taken to the dealer multiple times in which the technicians concluded that the computerized system sensor failed. The technicians replaced the translate computer, the ecu, the transmission temperature sensor, and the brake power booster. None of the repairs have remedied the failure. The manufacturer was investigating the failures. The failure mileage was 9,322 and the current mileage was 122,000. Updated 11/10/09 the consumer stated the vsc/brake and abs lights have been on, since taking ownership of the vehicle. When the lights are on, the front of the vehicle shakes and the vehicle looses power for approximately 2-3 seconds and then regains power again. The skid control computer and brake power booster were replaced. Updated 11/16/09.
Vsc dash light ("idiot light") has been consistently on now for the last 10,000 miles (current odometer = 51,000 +/-). The light was on intermittently starting before the vehicle was 1-1/2 years old (<25,000 miles. ) in addition to the vsc light, the 'brake' light stays on (originally illuminated only when the parking brake was engaged. ), plus the abs light is consistently lit. The vehicle was taken to Toyota more than once with the vsc/abs/brake lights complaint, but Toyota was unable to diagnose any problem until a service performed after the 36,000 mi warranty expired, at which point the dealer thought an abs computer replacement might solve the problem. The dealer did not acknowledge any problem until after this 36,000 mile point despite intermittent events occurring very early on.
Tracking control and emergency brake lights stay on all the time. Have had the problem fixed twice, but within a week or 2, the lights come back on and stay on incessantly. Toyota service center says "there is nothing they can do about it", so I have lived with it for 4+ years now. The brakes shake the entire vehicle when applied, they feel warped or bumpy. Again, "there is nothing they can do about it".
