In early August I received a safety recall notice from Toyota about the passenger side airbag being unsafe in our 2006 Sequoia. Apparently this recall has been in effect since June 2015 so I find it unacceptable that we weren't notified until early August. The recall notice recommends that we do not operate the vehicle with an occupant in the front passenger seat until Toyota has fixed the problem. However, Toyota is taking an excessively long time to provide parts for the repair. It is now August 31 and there is still no definitive date set for repairing the problem. Further, Toyota is providing only up to $35/day reimbursement for a loaner vehicle -- which covers only a third to half of what it costs to rent a vehicle of comparable size to our Sequoia. This is unfair and a big inconvenience to our family. I understand that parts availability can take time - but at least provide us with a comparable replacement car at no charge.

I have not had an "incident". The passenger airbag will be replaced on 7/21/2015. My question are all the other airbags (drivers side main airbag, all the side airbags) in this vehicle safe? if they are safe why are they safe in comparison to the passenger airbag? or are there potential problems?.

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that while driving approximately 2 mph, the four side air bags erroneously deployed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the air bag sensors had failed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was not available.
A Hyundai tucson ran a red light at a high rate of speed (approx 50 mph) hitting us hard enough to flip us 360 degrees causing us to roll over another Hyundai tucson and land on the opposite side of a four lane highway. We were hit on the passenger side whereby the door jam between the front and back doors took most of the hit. Due to the way we rolled and bounced off the hood of the stationary car, I, on the passenger side took most of the hit. My head hit the window and the right side of my back and right arm were bruised. My husband, who was driving, injured his shoulder. I think if we were in any other vehicle we would have been killed or far more severely injured. Our seatbelts held us in place, but the driver and passenger curtain and side airbags (that I paid extra for) did not deploy, which I think in a side impact accident and roll over, they should have. Perhaps if they did, I would not have had a concussion.
Rear window- the bracket that holds window up is broken and part cost appr. $400. 00 to repair it.
Eerily similar to odi case id number 10101730 our 2003 Toyota Sequoia sr5 4wd with the factory gy option for dr/pass curtain & side airbags was involved in a broadside collision in the drivers front side door causing the Sequoia to roll-over twice and none of the airbags in the vehicle deployed. The Sequoia was traveling at 35 mph having just exited an active school zone and was hit perpendicularly by a passenger car at unknown high speed from a disregarded stop-signed cross street. The Sequoia was tripped by a close by curb, being in a residential neighborhood, and rolled twice before being stopped by impacting a nearby residential privacy fence on the corner. Despite the forward impact into the privacy fence, the side impact of the other vehicle into the door, and the subsequent 2 rolls over, none of the airbags deployed; neither driver or passenger front airbags nor neither the drivers side nor passenger side curtain airbags. Fortunately the driver and the two small children buckled in the back were not seriously injured due to the sturdiness of the Sequoia itself. Back and neck soreness, a couple stitches in my hand and multiple other minor glass cuts for me and multiple minor glass cuts and a sprained wrist in my 8 year old daughter. My 7 year old son was virtually unscathed. Toyota dealer has been contacted and sufficient time has not passed to gauge their response. Toyota itself has no facility on their website for reporting such incidents.

On dry pavement there was an accident on front end and no air bag deployed. Vehicle was stopped at the time of impact, owner thought the other vehicle was going about 45. Mph vehicle was equipped with the side curtain air bags and front driver and passenger air bags. The occupants were wearing seat belts. There was no air bag warning lights on. There has never before been an accident with this vehicle, and air bags never deployed. Vehicle was bought new. Driver sustained injuries, broken an ankle a tibia, left wrist, and sustained multiple contusions. Driver's daughter has suffered from labor contractions after accident. Occupants were treated immediately after. There was an investigation by insurance company. Vehicle was totaled, frame was bent. Owner called Toyota, and they referred her to NHTSA.
During a 40 mph front passenger side impact, the side air bags did not deploy. Vehicle was towed. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
