The contact owns a 2000 Toyota Sienna. While the ignition was off and the vehicle was parked, the vehicle rolled away independently. Once the vehicle was stopped, the gear shifter was still in the park position. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the failure could not be duplicated. The contact owns a 2000 Toyota Sienna. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled and would only shift into reverse. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. An independent mechanic stated that the transmission was defective. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. The VIN was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 155,000.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2012

The vehicle (2000 Toyota Sienna) was stopped on a residential street and I shifted the vehicle from drive to park. The shifter sheared off the steering column. Upon taking off the steering column cover, I noticed the shifter had broken off the column in three areas where it is attached to the aluminum housing that surrounds the steering column. I could not remove the key nor drive the car from the stopped location. The Sienna was located in the middle of a residential street. I was able to get the vehicle towed to a dealership. The dealership indicated that Toyota had made two revisions to this part and it was a known problem, however it had not been recalled. I believe this piece broke due to metal fatigue and potentially could cause a serious accident if this were to happen on an arterial or if someone were to shift from drive to the lower gears while under movement.

4 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2001

While driving in interstate 15 at 70 mph,I suddenly lost speed and tachometer went up. The engine running but speed going down. I just use inertia to pull into the median. Dealer said they have to replace transmission. This is a serious safety problem, please act ASAP.

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2001

Transmission went out at 75 mph/tachometer went to zero, and engine kept running. Dealer informed consumer that she was # 49 on waiting list for a transmission which was on back order.

6 Power Train problem

Ltr fwd fm fhwa re his defective 2000 Toyota Sienna xle that emits a loud bearing whine, the transmission randomly shifted into neutral. The tires were replaced 3 times due to tracking & pulling problems. The consumer was told by the rep that 31k miles on a michelin was all to expect on this vehicle. The vehicle was on it's fourth set of tires at 55k miles. The tracking problems were resolved on the two sets of four within the first 15k miles. The vehicle downshifted when going between the second and third gears. There were results form an engine oil analysis that may indicate early sludge build up.
