Toyota Sienna owners have reported 1,091 problems related to body (under the structure category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Toyota Sienna based on all problems reported for the Sienna.

1 Body problem of the 2023 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 12/19/2025

While turning right at approximately 5–10 mph, the vehicle was struck on the front passenger side. The impact caused moderate intrusion of the passenger door, severe damage to the front-right corner of the vehicle, and damage to the dashboard. Despite the structural damage and intrusion into the occupant compartment, none of the airbags deployed, including driver frontal, passenger frontal, side torso, or curtain airbags. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts, which activated normally. The driver sustained a right-side rib fracture caused by seatbelt force, required ambulance transport to the emergency room, and continues to experience ongoing symptoms. A child passenger seated in the front passenger seat struck her head against the window, resulting in a brain concussion with symptoms including headache and dizziness, requiring emergency medical evaluation. No airbag warning lights were present before or after the crash. The vehicle is preserved in post-crash condition and is available for inspection. This appears to be an airbag system failure / crashworthiness defect that resulted in enhanced injuries due to airbag non-deployment.

2 Body problem of the 2014 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 10/27/2025

The passenger-side power sliding door system failed to stop or reverse when it encountered physical interference with the vehicle’s open fuel door. The door continued opening under power despite clear obstruction by a fixed exterior body component. The affected components, including the sliding door mechanism and damaged fuel door latch, remain available for inspection upon request. A powered sliding door continuing to operate against an obstruction creates a foreseeable risk of injury to occupants or bystanders, as well as vehicle damage. If a person’s hand, arm, or clothing had been in the same position as the fuel door, injury could have occurred. The incident occurred during normal vehicle use and demonstrates inadequate safeguards against obstruction. The issue has been formally reproduced or confirmed by an independent service center which noted that the incident occurred as described during normal operation of the power sliding door, and no abnormal conditions were present at the time. No warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms appeared prior to the incident. The power sliding door operated normally and without indication of malfunction until it failed to stop when encountering the open fuel door. Fueling the vehicle with the fuel door open is routine and expected vehicle use. The absence of any interlock, sensor logic, or safeguard preventing a powered sliding door from operating against an open body panel represents a design deficiency rather than a maintenance or wear issue. This condition may affect other vehicles equipped with similar power sliding door systems and warrants evaluation.

3 Body problem of the 2020 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 10/10/2025

The power sliding door assembly failed, and the driver side rear sliding door was bound shut, and could not be opened. Disabling the power door system did not resolve the issue. The cable for the power door mechanism was hanging below the rear vent windows; but for some reason the door still would not open. I ultimately with a lot of gentle force was able to get the door open enough to see the retract side of the cable was bound up, and was able to cut it with wire cutters, and ultimately get the door to work normally as a non-powered manual sliding door. Since the original NHTSA bullitin on this was published in 6/2019 before my 2020 Sienna was manufactured, and Toyota did not change the mechanism until the 2021 model redesign, I believe that recall should be extend to all 2019 and 2020 vehicles. This seems dangerous that the door does not default to manual operation in error.

4 Body problem of the 2024 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 10/08/2025

The driver side power sliding door failed to detect my [xxx] and ended up squishing it and we struggled for over a minute for the door to open. I have a video of the incident as it was captured by our security cameras, but I cannot upload it here. This was no the first time the doors have failed to detect someone. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

5 Body problem of the 2025 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 10/07/2025

Unknown dear Toyota motor sales, u. S. A. , inc. Consumer affairs department: I am writing to formally demand a full buyback and refund for the above-referenced 2025 Toyota Sienna (the "vehicle") under the arkansas new motor vehicle quality assurance act (the "arkansas lemon law"), ark. Code ann. §§ 4-90-401 et seq. The vehicle is subject to a critical safety recall (25ta12, with interim notice 25tb12) involving improperly welded second-row seat rails, which poses a substantial risk to the safety of myself, my passengers, and others on the road. As of the date of this letter, Toyota has issued no remedy for this defect and provided no estimated timeframe for when a repair will become available. This renders the vehicle unusable for its intended business purpose and out of service indefinitely, in violation of the implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, as well as the express warranties provided with the vehicle. Background and defect: I purchased the vehicle on [xxx], new from landers Toyota nwa, rogers ar for $49,058. The vehicle has been registered and primarily used in arkansas since acquisition. On or about October 7, 2025, Toyota issued recall 25ta12, notifying owners that the second-row seats in certain 2025 Sienna models, including my VIN , are mounted on seat rails that may have been improperly welded. This defect could cause the seats to detach during a crash, increasing the risk of injury or death. An interim notice (25tb12) followed, confirming the issue but explicitly stating that no repair remedy is currently available and no loaner vehicles or temporary fixes are being provided. Since receiving notice of the recall, the vehicle has been effectively out of service for safe operation. I cannot, in good conscience, use this vehicle with a known safety defect that compromises occupant protection in the event of an accident. Toyota has failed to provide any repair, temporary solution, or estimated completion date, leaving me without a functional vehicle for commercial pu.

6 Body problem of the 2025 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 10/07/2025

See recall above. We just spent $55,000 on this vehicle in order to safely transport and travel with our two year old and newborn. The fact that Toyota does not have a remedy available for this major issue is completely unacceptable. The recall notice states that our only current "remedy" is to not use the second row seats, which is not feasible since child safety seats only safely install in the second row. This so called "remedy" is absolutely unreasonable, illogical and irrational. It essentially renders our $55,000 vehicle unusable, which constitutes a significant financial loss for my family. I am making a loss of use claim - Toyota's response that it does not have a remedy available now for such a significant safety problem is outrageous.

7 Body problem of the 2025 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 10/06/2025

We were notified by Toyota that the second row seat rails had incomplete welds. Toyota recommended no one ride in the second row, and no child car seats should be installed in the second row. This greatly impacts the use and safety of the vehicle for our family of five. Additionally, the value of the vehicle has been impacted. Dealerships are not willing to give fair value for a trade-in because they know the vehicle will sit on their lot for an unknown amount of time before the repair is available. At this time (now 60+ days since the recall was announced), Toyota has not released the remedy and there is no timeline for the completion of these repairs.

8 Body problem of the 2015 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 10/01/2025

In August 2025, autonation Toyota on sahara, checked the VIN of my Toyota Sienna and contacted Toyota while I was present. Toyota confirmed a broken fuel-door hinge was covered under a customer support program. Instead, autonation attempted to repair, rather than replace, the hinge. This caused the metal fuel cap door to end up bent, paint to be gouged out from the bottom of the fuel door area, misalignment of the fuel door, and therefore issues with the door’s sensor reading correctly. I took the van back until they received shipment of a new fuel cap door. After the attempted repair, since the fuel door no longer aligned, the safety sensors repeatedly activated which strained the sliding-door ecu. The passenger sliding door began freezing intermittently, forcing my children to exit through the trunk several times. Finally, the door opened on its own as I was driving down the street. These issues did not exist prior to dealership service and presented a clear safety concern. Between October and December, I received conflicting explanations from gerald, james, ivan, and rudy at autonation Toyota regarding whether the issue involved the fuel door, ecu, motor, or general wear and tear. Autonation repeatedly failed to return my calls or respond to the emails I sent them. Toyota corporate also informed me the dealership was also not responding to their outreach attempts after I contacted them due to not being able to get ahold of autonation Toyota. I emailed four managers on October 15 with detailed documentation and received no response. My vehicle remains unsafe, unrepaired, and in the possession of autonation Toyota. I approve allowing it to be inspected. While at autonation, the vehicle driver could not open the passenger sliding door after autonation's attempted repair. They have had my van for 4 months now so no one else has looked at or inspected it. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.

9 Body problem of the 2024 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 09/15/2025

Keeps bottoming out suspension is specification is stated at 5. 6 inches and I measured 3. 3/4 unloaded never get a response on my complaints from my last repair and resolution on what they admitted that suspension was too low and wouldn’t put it in writing only saying that vantage mobility saying that it’s height requirements are as stated by vantage but no mention of ground clearance that I wanted them to verify that it’s specifications are stated at 6. 5 inches and I measured 3 3/4 empty then they tell me not to go by specs and I’m a retired from wright patterson air force base in the engineering department with logistics command and I’m like really guys you have to to have a specifications for a engineered system and they can’t even call back after they admit you have to go by specs! and then the authorized repair specialist tells me I had a bad brace on the front tire that was welded wrong and didn’t even mention it on the invoice or reported it to vantage mobility to call me about anything I had concerns about ?.

10 Body problem of the 2016 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 08/10/2025

Our van has recently been having issues with the sliding doors. It has occurred while driving and the warning light as well as the warning for a door open, and the door lights have came on. Right before this occurs you can hear a click sound from the sliding door behind the driver's side as well as when you close the door, you can hear a strange sound when it closes, unlike the passenger side sliding door.

11 Body problem of the 2025 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 08/01/2025

The second-row seat rails on my 2025 Toyota Sienna were manufactured with improper welds that can fail in a high-speed collision, potentially causing the seats to lose structural integrity and increasing the risk of severe injury. Safety risk and hardship: due to this defect, Toyota has recommended that no passengers sit in the second row and no child restraints be used in these seats until a remedy is performed. I have been awaiting a remedy for over 70 days, during which time the vehicle's primary utility as a high-capacity family transport has been compromised. This creates a severe accessibility and safety hardship, as I am unable to safely transport my family or use child safety seats in the designated locations. Forcing passengers into the third row, which does not accommodate three carseats side-by-side, is not a safe long-term alternative for our family, especially as at 8 months pregnant, and soon to be postpartum with a newborn and two toddlers in carseats. Reproducibility and inspection: the safety defect was confirmed by the manufacturer (recall numbers 25tb12 and 25ta12) and by my local authorized dealer upon notification. While the vehicle is available for inspection, the manufacturer has acknowledged the defect is due to incorrect weld machine settings at the factory. Symptoms and warnings: there were no warning lamps or messages prior to the recall notification. The issue was discovered by the manufacturer during internal testing between July and August 2024 and publicly announced in October 2025.

12 Body problem of the 2025 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 07/01/2025

Open recall with no anticipated date of being fixed. The second row seats are unsafe for passengers which makes the vehicle unusable for a family.

13 Body problem of the 2015 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 04/16/2025

The slide door latch stopped working. The sliding door doesn't latch properly and I have to manually close the door and lock it to know it's secure. If it's not locked a slight push will cause it to pop open. My mechanic said there is a recall associated with the replacement part. I can't find the recall. However, I did find a related TSB (TSB-0244-17).

14 Body problem of the 2024 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 04/01/2025

Trunk will not open or close properly. Made a screeching sound when you open or close initially. Then eventually it stops opening or closing unless you assist.

15 Body problem of the 2015 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 02/22/2025

Fuel filler door upper hinge failed so that door would not seat properly when closed. Because the door was not seated properly, the left side power sliding door interlock did not release, preventing the sliding door from opening fully. I had visited a fast food restaurant in Feb 2025 and ordered some french fries for my[xxx], strapped into his child seat directly behind the driver. He was choking on a fry, starting to turn blue. I quickly stopped and attempted to open the sliding power door, but it would not open fully to allow access to my grandson because the failing fuel door wouldn't release the power door interlock. By the time I ran around to the passenger side to reach him he had nearly passed out, but I reached him in time to extract him from the seat and performed a heimlich to expel the fry and restore his breathing. Toyota should be forced to extend the extended warranty for the full duration of the court agreement of 10yr, Dec 2025, regardless of purchase date. My request for fuel door replacement in Jul 2025 was refused because Toyota claimed the warranty was only good until 10yr after date of purchase, not to the end of 2025. The warranty period applies to vehicles purchased Dec 2025, so the warranty program still exists, but Toyota national refuses to honor it for my vehicle. The inoperable power door can cause passengers to be trapped from quick exit in case of other emergencies, such as vehicle fire or accident rollover. Toyota should honor the warranty or risk legal liability for a death due to manufacturer defect! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

16 Body problem of the 2013 Toyota Sienna

17 Body problem of the 2013 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 08/20/2024

Pressed the button to open the rear passenger sliding door and it would open. When opened manually it would open only about 12 inches. Then when we were driving on the highway the door opened on its own. The door had to be manually closed and now it will not open. This is now a safety concern that in the event of a crash passengers may not be able to exit the vehicle or the door could open again while driving.

18 Body problem of the 2020 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 08/11/2024

Hinge rust on fuel door causing it to break and not let rear passenger door auto open (because switch won't make up) hinge is very weakly built.

19 Body problem of the 2021 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 07/29/2024

I purchased a 2021 Toyota Sienna from united access mobility in sacramento. The vehicle was sold and delivered with multiple serious pre-existing safety defects. The exhaust system was unsafe. The catalytic converter had been stolen prior to sale and replaced with a non-oem catalytic converter that was improperly welded and mounted too low. This caused exhaust leaks, loud exhaust noise, poor acceleration, and safety concerns including potential exhaust exposure. Multiple professional repair facilities confirmed the exhaust system defect. The electrical system was defective. The vehicle was sold with the wrong size battery that was not properly secured. This caused electrical instability, warning lights, and vehicle failure. The battery was not adequately supporting the vehicle’s electrical system. The airbag and restraint system showed warnings caused by third-party wiring, indicating potential airbag or seatbelt malfunction. The fuel system was defective. The gas cap was broken and required tools to refuel the vehicle. Structural and body components were unsafe. A bumper bracket was loose and flapped while driving, and the passenger seat was unstable. Accessibility systems were also defective, including lift and door malfunctions affecting safe operation. United access was notified immediately but did not correct these safety defects. Instead, they attempted to have the vehicle repaired using an extended warranty for pre-existing conditions. The vehicle was not safe to operate at the time of sale.

20 Body problem of the 2011 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 07/12/2024

I was pulling my 2011 Toyota siena into a parking space. My foot was on the brake and the car was going about 5 mph. The car made a slight sound, along with a perceptible yet small physical shift, and (while my foot was on the brake) independently accelerated with tremendous force. It was like it was ignited. The car hit a concrete pole and was totaled. The acceleration over-rode the brake. No one was hurt. The concrete pole averted what could have been a catastrophic accident, had we hit pedestrians, or had we rear ended a car or truck on the freeway. The brakes failed as the car jumped into independent acceleration. My safety and the safety of my passenger were both at risk. As I said, in a different situation, we might have hit pedestrians, or gone through the wall of the grocery store and hit customers. The concrete pole saved us and others. The mechanic at the service center where the car was towed said it was impossible to discern if there had been a failure in the system of the car - though clearly both my passenger and myself experienced that failure in the car's ability to override an independent, forceful acceleration not caused by the driver. There was no warning of any kind. On the edmunds site, there are many, many testimonials by other drivers of the Toyota siena of similar, frightening experiences of independent acceleration. It is terribly dangerous and should be investigated. If there is not a recall on this vehicle, there should be. This is a potentially catastrophic defect.

21 Body problem of the 2024 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 05/01/2024

Dear sir/madam, I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding a serious and ongoing issue with my 2024 Toyota Sienna xle awd, purchased in April 2024 in illinois. From the very first day, the trunk door has not functioned properly — often failing to close, randomly opening, or requiring manual force to shut. Despite repeated service visits across multiple states (IL, SC, nc) and investing considerable time, fuel, and lost income as a contractor, this issue persisted for over 18 months, creating safety concerns and inconvenience for me and my family. Key issues: trunk door opens on its own – even while reversing, creating serious safety risks. Malfunctioning power close mechanism, requiring manual closure frequently. Unreliable performance: door would close, then immediately re-open. Visited Toyota service centers at least 6 times across 3 states. Each visit took 2–3 hours, costing me work hours as a contractor. Customer service experience has been poor, especially with manager patte, who: failed to schedule proper service appointments. Directed me without coordination. Refused to escalate my request or connect me to her manager. Dismissed my request for compensation by saying, “it’s your issue. ” please help me on this issue. Thanks in advance.

The contact owns a 2011 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated while parked on a slight hill, the contacts granddaughter opened the power slide door to enter the vehicle however the door did not latch or lock in place causing it to close on its own while the granddaughter was entering the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer, but was previously repaired under Toyota's customer support program . The parts replaced was 2 hinges for the power slider. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.

24 Body problem of the 2022 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 01/13/2024

I have a Toyota Sienna 2022 limited awd, not been driving much recently. The last time I drove was 2 days ago but local around 2 miles. Today I tried opening my doors, and there is no response at all. At first I thought maybe my key fob is dead, so I grabbed my spare and tried, nothing. Pull both my physical keys out twist and turned, still nothing. Called Toyota roadside service and they said in that case they will have to tow my van to the nearest dealer, so it seems Toyota is aware of this issue. What is the point of the physical keys if they can't open your doors when your battery is dead? what if my kids are stuck in the car????.

28 Body problem of the 2009 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 10/06/2023

The driver's side sliding door was stuck and I was struggling with it. Suddenly, the quarter panel window shattered (the window between the door and the back of the car) and the door came halfway off the track. It's important to note that this was not the window of the door I was struggling with and nothing visible hit the window. Luckily, my baby was not yet in his seat which is right next to the window. It is normal for people to struggle with a stuck door. If a non-visibly connected window suddenly shatters it is a significant safety risk.

29 Body problem of the 2023 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 09/05/2023

I parked the car in the garage and my child left the passanger side sliding door open. Then, the door malfunctioned because it would not electronically close after being left open more than 80 minutes. I tried to manually close the door, but encountered resistance. Afterwards, I pushed the "power door main switch" and was able to close the door manually. Our safety was at risk because if a dangerous person or aniaml was approaching, there is no intuitive way to quickly close the door. The vehicle did not provide any warning messages about the door malfunction.

The rear sliding power door on the passenger side closed on my six year old child. He was trapped in the door and could not move until I opened the door. He has pain and visible injuries on his back from the door. This happened on 2. 10. 23. There have not been any incidents with the van leading up to this incident. This happened when the van was parked in the garage and the engine was off. We have not tried to replicate the incident because it caused an injury. The vehicle is available for inspection.

Today I had a crash and luckily walked away. I went down an embankment at speed into trees where the vehicle rolled and struck trees head on. All the vehicle airbags deployed and vehicle came to rest on the drivers side. Although there was electrical power and the engine still running none of the right side doors would open and neither would the rear hatch which was clear of obstruction! had there been a fire I wouldn't be making this report! doors need to be operable regardless of situation when none of them are jammed from an accident!.
