1 Frame And Members problem of the 2005 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

Driver door started to have a snapping/popping sound when opening and closing the door. Sound got worse and felt harder to close. Before bringing it to my mechanic I did a google search of the problem. Found out it to be a known problem and Toyota didn't call for a recall but extended the warranty to two extra years (5 years) or 100,000 miles. Mileage on my van is 70,000 miles but 5 years 9 months old, 9 months pass extended warranty. Called local Toyota corporation and unfortunately they will not cover the repair because warrantly time has expired.

Power passanger back door has ceased to funtion. Thee is a way to turn off the power door, but the manual door is too difficulat for the children to operate, they must enter and exit on the drivers side rear door. . . Toyota wants 2300 to repair! I had previously paid 800 to repair, but they claim that it's a different set of parts. . . And did not fix the problem.

5 Frame And Members problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 08/07/2010

I bought a 2004 Toyota Sienna in March 2004. August 2010, I noticed that the driver's side door did not close smoothly & noticed that the door stop (midway between hinges) was busted. I bought the part & thought this was all that needed to be replaced. It got really bad really fast to the point that the door made a lot of popping when I opened & closed it & it was becoming difficult to open & close. On August 17th I took it to a local auto repair place to install the door stop since you have to get into the door to install it, thinking that the new door stop would solve the problem. They called & said they needed to repair some damage inside of the door before installing the door stop - at a cost of $248. On approximately December 17th, I noticed the driver's side door was starting to pop again. I took it to a body shop & they said the door needed to be replaced at a cost of approx. $2,000. They suggested reporting it to my insurance company because the damage was not normal. Erie insurance denied the claim, claiming it was a manufacturers defect. I called the body shop & they found nv003-07, which I was totally unaware of. I called Toyota corporate office and they said the warranty for fixing the problem had been extended to 5 years & 100,000, even though nv003-07 did not say this, and I was out of luck. I am angry because Toyota never notified me of the problem & never did a recall on a manufacturing defect caused by their negligence. All they did was put out a bulletin & hope I never found out about it until it was too late, which is exactly what happened. I have been a loyal Toyota customer since 1986 - I am done with Toyota & will never buy another Toyota again. This is irresponsible, dishonest and inexcusable on their part. The car is totally unsafe because I have to be able to open and close the driver's side door without it jamming. I should not have to pay $2,000 to correct a problem Toyota created. I know am not the only one experiencing this problem.

6 Frame And Members problem of the 2010 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 07/16/2010

The contact owns 2010 Toyota Sienna. During a routine oil change the dealer noticed that both rear tires were worn to the metal wire and that they could fall apart at anytime. The dealer informed her that the rear member bar was too long and was for a different vehicle which caused the tires to be out of line. The dealer agree to replace the rear member bar but could not confirm if that would correct the failure. The vehicle was in the dealers possession when the complaint was filed. The contact will notify the manufacturer and inform them of the failure. The failure and current mileages were 36,000.

7 Frame And Members problem of the 2011 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 07/11/2010

We bought our first minivan - a Toyota Sienna xle 2011- barely two weeks ago from Toyota laurel, MD. The second day, the steering started to creak when making turns. Now, the trunk door has stopped working and the local new jersey dealership dch Toyota is telling us it has been "bent". They are refusing to fix it or replace the vehicle and are telling us our insurance company needs to pay to fix it. The door is not damaged or dented/dinged in any way. It's perfectly fine, except it doesn't close anymore with the remote closing/opening buttons. We believe something is wrong with the electronics, or that the door was not correctly put in when the car was being manufactured. We have a child and would like to know what else is going to break down in this new car through no fault of our own.

8 Frame And Members problem of the 2005 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 07/04/2010

The 2005 Toyota Sienna I own was under 100000 miles when I began to noticed the unusual noise from driver side front door, and later became click sound when door was opened as well as closed. I did not receive any notification about the warranty extension on this problem. I strongly feel this is a car design issue instead of material as I checked through available information to me that, this issue only happened to some model years.

9 Frame And Members problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 05/03/2010

I have a 2004 Toyota Sienna. I have slider doors that I have been operating manually for several months as they were broken and were too expensive to fix. I was closing the slider door today when it popped off its' track and smashed into the back window of the van spraying huge chunks of glass all over the back seat. The slider door was hanging off the van about a foot away from the van. There were three little girls in the van who were very scared but luckily they were not hurt. My daughter was headed to the back seat when I pulled the slider door closed and the incident occurred. If she had been seated in the back seat, she would have been injured badly by the broken glass. I had the car towed to Toyota. The van door was hanging off the van in such a precarious position, the tow truck driver had me sign a damage waiver since he was hesitant to transport it.

10 Frame And Members problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 03/07/2010

Plastic sheathing on passenger power door, the only power door, dried out and cracked causing the cable wires to be exposed to the elements. As a result, the wires of the cable began to rust and fray and tangled in the door so that it was half opened and would neither open nor close even with the power off. We had to cut the cable off to get the tangled cable free of the door so we could close it. It is poor quality to have the plastic on the cable dry out and crack off so that the power door is unable to be used as a power door which is an option you have to pay extra for. We also had small children buckled into carseats at the time and had we not cut the cable off, we could not drive it as I said the door was stuck half open/half closed.

11 Frame And Members problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

I own a Toyota Sienna 2004 van and there has been this persisting and irritating popping sound when you open and close the driver side door. I called Toyota and they said that the vehicle is no longer covered by the warranty. Nothing was done by Toyota, so I had to had it repaired by myself at my expense.

12 Frame And Members problem of the 2006 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 02/16/2010

Description of problem: 2006 Toyota Sienna sliding door on driver's side won't close. Events leading up to problem: drove vehicle about 25 miles from home, opened sliding door for child to exit vehicle, door would not close after that. Front latch can be secured with great force, however the rear latch will not engage. Door remains open and is a very serious safety risk as the front latch security/reliability is insufficient. Sliding door could open without warning while driving 70 mph. Lights in van stay on, presenting another risk at night because vision is inhibited greatly by interior lighting. Had to drive home without door fully closed at night. This lack of visibility nearly resulted in several accidents. Problem stems from the mechanism that grabs the metal loop that is connected to the rear door frame. The c shaped latch is covered with a plastic coating which when worn or damaged allows moisture in and the metal clamp swells up and binds the latch. No amount of lubrication will help. Toyota made a big mistake by plastic coating a metal that would rust and swell up the outer coating from the inside making the latch not function properly. This is a serious design defect. There may be other design flaws contributing to the malfunction of this critical mechanism.

13 Frame And Members problem of the 2010 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 01/28/2010

1. I bought a new Toyota Sienna 2010 in November 2009 and found the rails of the passenger side seat corroded in less than two months 2. The spare tire mechanism of the same car was found stuck and had to be replaced in the same time period. The dealer has replaced the spare tire mechanism but failed to address the issue of corrosion. I am concerned as this affects the resale value of my car and also if the corrosion exists in other parts of the vehicle which are not conspicuous.

14 Frame And Members problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 01/18/2010

Power sliding door on my van quit working. Door is stuck half opened. Took to Toyota said it was a common problem but the warranty wont cover. They said it was due to door sag due to hinge but this is not the case I cut a steel cable and was able to close the door manually. It works fine manually you would think it was due to what they said it wouldn't close at all. Many people are having this problem and Toyota is doing nothing about it.

15 Frame And Members problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 11/13/2009

Power doors on 2004 Toyota Sienna snapped. One door will not open even manually. The dealer tells me the hinge is broken. The van is only 7 years old and never in an accident, also garage kept. Toyota will fix the doors for 2,000 a door. If there was an accident it would be impossible to remove the passengers in the back of the van.

16 Frame And Members problem of the 2005 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 11/01/2009

The drivers side door makes a crackling/scraping noise as if a hinge or metal component is broken. We had received a recall notice from Toyota to come in to have the problem repaired, if the problem existed. It did not exist when letter was received - letter said file this recall info if the problem did not exist. So we filed it. Then later the problem occurred and when we took the van in for repair the dealership said tough luck, they would not do anything to fix it. Because the vehicle was out of their warranty period - we then discussed the issue with the local dealership again and they said they would pay half the cost to repair it (about 1500 dollars if we would pay the other half, about 1500 dollars) since the recall notice did not say anything about the warranty issue, I think they should honor their recall notice. Since it seemed like it could be a safety issue, ie. , would door not close properly or fly open when we were on the road, we attempted a fix with a local welder, and the weld did not work. I think they should honor their recall notice and repair the door at Toyota's expense.

17 Frame And Members problem of the 2005 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 09/01/2009

Bought a new Toyota Sienna from alderman's in rutland vt. It is a 2005 model. Eggress to the back two rows of seats is by means of two large electronically controlled doors. One can not be opened at all and has to be replaced. Dealer says this is a problem that they have encountered before. The other he managed to get operable but my wife has trouble getting the door shut as it is very stiff. It is very dangerous to have a multi passenger vehicle that most passengers may not be able to get out of in an emergency. This is a serious design flaw and there should be a recall on given that it is a frequent known problem with a high potential of being dangerous. L. It has been a month now since the dealer said he would order the parts, I have heard nothingparts and call me when they come in. He has not called.

18 Frame And Members problem of the 2005 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 08/10/2009

The front door was constantly starting to have a clicking issue upon full extent of door for quite some time. Front door hinge clicking. Requested fix as per recall. I left the car so the door could be fixed. I picked it up after being repaired and on the same day when the door was normally placed into a full extension I heard the same problem. It was much quieter than the previous clicking. I requested a recheck that week. I returned for repair. They explained were able to replace I believe part of the door along with hinge that was broken. The door had some repainting to match the car. There have been no problems since the door was changed. I was happy with the final result.

19 Frame And Members problem of the 1999 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 06/28/2009

The rear door of our 1999 Sienna van has already broken twice since we purchased it 5 years ago. I replaced it once, but cannot afford to again. As a result, I cannot get to the back which also prevents me from getting to my spare tire should I need it. In addition, when the back handle broke a year ago a week later a sliding door handle. Now, three days ago, another sliding door has broken. I have no money to replace this handles and it will run about 1,000 to fix all three. Further, the sliding door panels keep lifting and I have tried replacing the pegs with no luck. I have never owned a car that has had no many issue with door handles. They should last the life time of the car. I see throughout the web others who have complained about the same issue. When I call for used parts, they are backed ordered because there are no many request for them. Especially the back door one. I really believe they are defective and were not made to with stand open and closing on a daily bases. I think they made them thinking they would be on doors that automatically released and opened versus manual doors.

20 Frame And Members problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 06/21/2009

Power sliding door cable snapped, rear panel window shattered, hinge failed - my son went to open door from outside and it seemed to fall off track - back was lower and in trying to shut door, when pressed power button again the rear panel window shattered; dealership said hinge needs to be replaced, and that the cable had snapped but they had never seen anything like this before. Had shown the car to dealership last month and they said door was "a little misaligned" and could bring in when I had a chance for door to be realigned - dealer now says all 4 casters the door rides on in the upper track had completely worn away. Also car door inoperable part of every winter - "freezes" closed - was told that it was weather related but apparently this is an issue with this car - we do not use that door in winter because it does not open and kids cannot get in or out from that side.

21 Frame And Members problem of the 2005 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 06/05/2009

We own a 2005 Toyota Sienna xle minivan and at 75,000 miles the driver side sliding door hinges/rollers and latching mechanism have failed and the motor and cable for the power door opening system also need to be replaced because the defective hinges/rollers and latches put to much strain on the mechanism. Toyota wants over $2,000 to service this door and the other door (preventable maintenance). Because of the damage the driver side sliding door is unusable which needs to be considered a safety risk. It is unbelievable that this door mechanism has failed after less than 5 years of normal use.

22 Frame And Members problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 05/14/2009

The automatic sliding door on my 2004 Toyota Sienna stopped working. The door now only opens about 12 to 18 inches.

23 Frame And Members problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 03/05/2009

Passenger side sliding door cable shredded and no longer operates door.

24 Frame And Members problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 02/24/2009

Driver side passenger door on the Toyota Sienna 2004 vehicle with less than 51,000 miles must now be replaced at a cost of $1,800. This is certainly not normal for a car this new with only normal daily use in a non-weathered environment.

25 Frame And Members problem of the 2005 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 01/15/2009

My 2005 Toyota Sienna xle awd vehicle's automatic side doors become stuck and will not open. It happens in cold weather and is very upsetting because if I have attempted to open the door and then it will not open when I drive it I am afraid it might become "unstuck" and open on it's own. I called the dealer about the problem and they told my to bring it in and they would grease the doors but that is not the problem. Something inside the door mechanism is freezing due to the cold. After the car is used for a while the doors start working again. I am afraid my passengers will get locked in the back and that I will be unable to get them out of the car.

26 Frame And Members problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 11/28/2008

I have 2004 Sienna and sliding doors have been freezing during winter. I called Toyota and they said there will not cover because its out of warranty. The put the TSB 0028-08 on April 3, 2008 way after 36 mons/36,000 mile warranty my van was put in service. If I would have taken on the same day when this bulletin was released, my van would have been out of warranty. Either they should have put this bulletin earlier or they should have extended the coverage period.

27 Frame And Members problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 11/06/2008

2004 Toyota Sienna - manual sliding door latch has bolts that have ripped through the sheet metal of the door causing the door to not close properly. Toyota states this is beyond warranty but I argue that it's a safety issue and a defect which should not be limited to the warranty. They disagree.

28 Frame And Members problem of the 2000 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 10/25/2008

Regular usage of our van has caused the doors on both sides to break. On one side, the handle completely broke off and the other will only partially open.

29 Frame And Members problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 09/22/2008

The contact owns a 2004 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated that the cable that runs through the door was rusted. After use, the cable snapped in half and was hanging outside the vehicle. The contact cut the cable because she did not want the vehicle to be scratched. The dealer stated that the entire door needed to be repaired at the contact's expense. The failure and current mileages were 67,000.

30 Frame And Members problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 09/15/2008

My 2004 Toyota Sienna xle has the driver's side automatic sliding door (for passengers in the back) that occasionally will not open, other times will not close, and sometimes after opening it will close uncommanded. In my opinion this is definitely a safety issue that Toyota is unwilling to recognize. This problem is widely reported by several Toyota Sienna owners. Also, should a rapid escape from the car be necessary, it would be impossible to use the passenger sliding door as an emergency exit.

31 Frame And Members problem of the 2006 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 07/25/2008

Our 2006 Toyota Sienna's right power sliding passenger door suddenly failed. There was no prior warning. Mileage was 47,385. We were outside of the warranty period. The motor simply gave out. The door had to be replaced so that the van could be drivable. We took it to nalley automotive , 11130 alpharetta hwy, roswell, GA 30076. The dealer replaced the right side power sliding door control motor. Cost of repair was $1914. 39.

32 Frame And Members problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 05/15/2008

Rear sliding door cable broke. Very expensive to repair ($1600) no help from dealership. Told me to call manufacturer. Car had 50,000 miles. Seems like this should not fail at all.

33 Frame And Members problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 02/13/2008

On 2/13/2008, I tried to open my passenger slider door with the auto button. The door opened approximately a foot then closed itself. I tried this a second time and again it happened. My husband then tried to open the door manually and the door would not open further than about a foot again. My husband checked the door and upon inspection noticed that the cable was broken. We called Toyota and found that at the time there were no recalls related to this problem. The representative stated to go to an authorized dealer and have them diagnose the problem then call to see what Toyota could do for us. When we arrived at the dealership, I informed the service tech behind the counter that I was bringing in my 2004 Sienna to have the sliding door checked. His reply was "let me guess, the cable snapped". He then proceeded to tell us that they were having alot of issues with this. The dealership checked my vehicle over, confirmed the cable had snapped and stated that it would cost roughly $1,600. 00. I told them that their customer relations mgr. Needed to contact Toyota to see what they would do for us, as my everyday mechanic had stated to me that for a 4 year old vehicle this should never have happened. The tech consulted with his manager (who never even picked up the phone) returned and stated that they would pay for the part and we would be responsible for the roughly $500-600 for labor. I agreed as I really had no choice. Please help not only me, but the other Sienna owners get this problem into a recall status, as if this ever shuts on a child serious injury or a death may occur.

34 Frame And Members problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 12/01/2007

When the temperature drops below freezing both sliding doors on my Sienna 2004 freeze shut.

35 Frame And Members problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 07/28/2007

The fuel pipe from the tank to the engine on my 2004 Toyota Sienna le disconnected. I was driving with my kids and stopped at the light, our car being the first in the rightmost lane at a busy intersection. When the light turned green I pressed the accelerator but the car didn't move. I made several more attempts but it was in vain. The message on the screen panel appeared as a discharged battery, which at that moment puzzled me very much. I started looking around, making signs to the vehicles behind mine to try and get into the other lane as I can't start my car (there were few angry drivers). One stopped by me when the light turned red again and then said he smells gas. At the same time a woman and her older teenage daughter were running from across the street waiving and shouting 'get out of the car!'. She helped me and my kids get out and told us that while driving from the other side she saw when the gas gushed from under my car. Well the rest is known - 911, police, fire truck and my family scared and blessed to have escaped a horror. The car was towed to the dealer who told me that the pipe disconnected, they put it back and that they've never encountered this problem. When I asked about a warranty on this or a future sign to look for, the answer was it shouldn't happen, it can't. But it just did, right? I want to mention that the car has never been involved in any accidents and it's very well cared for. I had to pay for the repair over $100 which I'm guessing Toyota will never refund. I will forever be thankful to that woman and her daughter who quite possible saved out lives.
