I own a 2004 Toyota Sienna I bought new that has had to have the brake pads replaced 3 times in 62,000 miles. The last 2 sets only lasted 17,000, but the factory ones lasted 27,000. It' was worn out rotors, and had to replace those twice. It wa sbecoming very expensive, and seemed to be a product default. No other Mini van I drove had anything like this.

I was traveling this past Tuesday, may 1st, and I notice a slight noise from the inside of my van when I had reached my destination. It happened when I applied my brakes but when I roll down my window I hadn't noticed any noise from the outside of the van. I was alone and did get out and I hadn't noticed anything in or around the front left tire. I had to travel another 1 and a half back home and by this time my car was making a horrible noise. I had a mechanic look at the car and informed me that the rotor was messed up and the brakes where metal to metal. I only have 29,000 miles on my van and he told me that this shouldn't be doing this until its due to a defect such as a bad caliper or the brakes where getting hung up. I called Toyota and they told me that they would correct this problem until I arrived and then they told me that this is normal for Toyota Sienna minivans. I am concerned that there is more to the problem because my brakes never squealed or squeaked and its only on the left side.

2004 Toyota Sienna, left outside in long term parking for three weeks, during that time it rained a lot. Upon return and backing out of parking spot, a popping sound was heard. Since then every time the brake is depressed a thumping noise can be heard from the tire. Inspection of the tire didn't reveal anything stuck in them that would cause the noise. After bringing it to the dealer for servicing, the technician explained that rust build on the rotor actually fused to the brake pad thus causing the popping noise. The thumping noise when the brake is applied is caused by the brake pad rubbing against the rust on the rotor. Toyota motor corp. Has refused and so has the dealer to replace the rotor since they say it is a wear and tear item and has exceeded the warranty period so I will have to come up with the money to replace them. There should not be that much rust on any part of an 04 Sienna that it would fuse to another part of the vehicle. This is a defect and should be handled by the manufacturer.
Brake degradation on 2004 Toyota Sienna. Toyota Sienna brakes began to severly deteriorate at 14,000 miles. Pads worn beyond safe use and rotors glazed and warped.
While applying the brakes pedal went to the floor. A loud squeaking noise was heard coming from the front. Vehicle shook uncontrollably. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that both front brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced.

Previously filed complaint od id #: 10033210 regarding rotors. I recently had them replaced under warranty because when braking hard to avoid an accident I heard metal to metal from front braking system and the car wasn't stopping. Also had slight shimmy in steering upon regular braking. Was told that rotors were within the specifications but since they could not turn/sand them again because they had been done once before and would be too thin and that they were "warped" they would replace them under warranty "this one time only. " the first time they were turned and sanded - approximately 15,000 miles. This time they were replaced - 22,000 miles. This is not normal and I do not feel safe driving this car!.

This van has rear brakes that squeal/hum everytime you use them. I have contacted Toyota regional which contacted Toyota national which sent someone out to look at them. In their words they said "brake noise is normal for a Sienna". Somehow any constant brake noise shouldn't be normal. I'm told it happens when the brake shoes and the backing plates vibrate at a low speed it causes them to hum. Also, at 15,000 miles (I only put 10,000 per year on the car) the rotors had to be turned and sanded. 1 week later the metal crunching sound returned. I returned the vehicle and was told everything was within the specifications. Now, whenever I have to brake hard I still will hear a metal to metal crunching noise. Unfortunately it isn't a constant problem and cannot always be duplicated so it still hasn't gotten fixed. I've basically given up on the vehicle and will turn it in at the end of the lease because I do not feel safe with these type of brake problems.
My brakes have been sqealing for some time now. I've had the rotors turned, dusted, etc. Now it is affecting my steering. I am due to take it in to have this checked out.
I own a 2002 Toyota Sienna and there is a problem with the rear brake rotor drum and pad. Frequest squealing and premature pad wear is evident since 5,000 miles. The dealer told us Toyota recognizes the problem and will investigate a solution. They originally stated they expected a reply by Toyota by July/August 2002. We still do not have any information that leads us to believe this issue will be resoplved anytime soon.

Front brake rotors noisy. Yh.
Brake pads and rotors failed. Nlm.
The brakes make a very loud squeaking noise. The dealer told the consumer to ride the brakes for a while until the rust came off. New brake pads were put on the vehicle on 6/5/2003. The noise still occurs.
