1 Brake Light On problem of the 2006 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 09/05/2018

Antilock brake system (abs) warning light and parking brake light are on simultaneously, at all times once car is started. Issue was diagnosed as faulty abs control module requiring replacement. Vehicle has never been in an accident, and to the best of my knowledge, has never even required that the abs be utilized.

3 Brake Light On problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 06/12/2015

The steering angle sensor, pn# 89245-08011 failed. The van can not be driven over 23 mph. The brakes come on automatically over 23 mph and the engine will not respond to accelerate. The steering seems strange (anti-lock brake light coming on) but I was able to keep the van in my lane of traffic. I am concerned that this sensor or others will fail and the van will automatically apply the breaks and loose power preventing me from maneuvering the van to the side of the road. I do not know what would have happened if I was travelling at highway speed. I consider this a major safety problem.

4 Brake Light On problem of the 2008 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 06/08/2015

About a five years ago the slip indicator light (car with swervy lines) started coming on intermittently while turning on highways etc. (but not when any risk of tires slipping). I brought it to Toyota three different times over the years and Toyota always states they can not duplicate issue and states they can't fix it but maybe drive slower (really it has nothing to with my spee after years of dealing with this its been something we just deal with). The vsc light also comes on and alarm sometimes sounds while driving. Two more trips to Toyota and several visits to different mechanics and nobody can find out the problem. In the last 6 months the abs system is also being activated without me applying the brakes. It does it without warning. All of these issues can be on a curve at different speeds or on a slight or medium turns (not real sharp turns), going uphill or downhill and left or right. Our van has about 150,000 miles on it now on 2020 but when the problem first started it only had around 110,000 miles on it. We have changed brakes, tires, rotors, brushing on advice from different mechanics to try to fix the issue. Nothing works. Toyota cannot figure it out. It's becoming more dangerous because now the abs is being activated with this problem. I can't tell if my brake lights come on so that drivers behind me can tell that I'm slowing down very quickly. This jerks those in the car and I'm afraid we may lose control. I have read on different web sites that this is common with a Toyota and it's just not my van. If I had the money I would buy a different vehicle but being on a fixed income I don't have the luxury to do so. How can a car company have so many complaints from consumers about this common problem but still can't tell us how to fix it? it's Toyota's design they should be able to tell the consumer what is causing this issue and how to fix it.

5 Brake Light On problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 04/18/2014

Starting from a stop and accelerating up to approx 20 mph, abs tracs vsc lights illuminated with beeping alert, and activation of brakes causing a sudden deceleration. The road was dry, level pavement, no ice, no gravel, driving straight and the brakes were not being applied. There were no conditions that would necessitate the traction control. As the brakes were not being applied at the time of the incident, the rear brake lights would not have illuminated. Therefore, any driver behind our vehicle would not have been alerted to the sudden deceleration which could have resulted in a collision. Fortunately this was not the case. This is the 2nd time that this issue has occurred with this vehicle. The first was in Nov. 2007 (46000 miles in the vehicle). Toyota service was not able to find a fault, no codes stored and not able to replicate at that time. They said that they would have a corporate contact get in touch with me. I never heard from them. Nothing was resolved. There are at least two tsbs related to the vsc issue (TSB br004-03 and br008-04). Neither was implemented.

6 Brake Light On problem of the 2006 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 06/12/2013

While driving in a residential area, going 5-10 mph, the anti-lock brake light came on flashing and beeping loudly. The steering system locked up and lasted 45 seconds to 1 minute. It would occur on a highway as well, no reason, ground completely dry. It would occur driving into the PA turnpike toll booth, rounding corners, going straight on 65 mph highway, (it occurred intermittently 60-70 times). The dealer (north hills Toyota 7401 mcknight road, pittsburgh, PA 15237 412-318-3000 were unable to fix it after I took it in twice. The last time, they disconnected the antilock brake system to fix the problem. I currently am driving with the system unconnected.

7 Brake Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 01/04/2013

I was driving the car and noticed it was a bit sluggish. The next thing I know, the brake pedal is on the floor even though I am not pressing it, and the car is still moving. I had my three children in the car, so I drove carefully to a safe stopping place, used the emergency brake, and exited the car. I then noticed that all four brakes or tires were smoking and there was a very strong burning smell. If there had been a need for me to stop suddenly while I was still moving, my brakes would not have worked! after getting the car towed and replacing both the abs actuator and the master cylinder, my mechanic diagnosed the source of the problem: the brake light switch and bracket had been knocked out of alignment and were causing brake application even when the pedal was not depressed by the driver. This caused abs and vehicle stability control failures when the brakes overheated. I searched Toyota's recalls and found a recall for this exact problem was issued for 2011 Siennas only, but I had experienced precisely the same problem in a 2005 Sienna. I called Toyota and got nowhere; because no recall had been issued for my model year, they would not help me at all with covering the tremendous cost I had incurred.

11 Brake Light On problem of the 2010 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 05/14/2010

It seem like the brake take about 1 or 2 second before it is finally engage if I brake normally. If I brake hard then it is stop very good but if I brake slightly by press the brake normally then it is not doing good job to stop it. Dealer could not find any wrong with it. Dealer let me test drive 2011 and the brake on the model work good as the break I have on kia rondo and chevy impala. I called Toyota company and they told me go to another dealer to ask for second opinion. I told them about the brake on 2011 model. They said my van has 7k mileage, the one I tested drive is new van. I told them my van is still new. They say I can pursue the issue my own if I still think the brake is no good. I went to another dealer they also said no problem with the brake. . Read more...

12 Brake Light On problem of the 2006 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 03/13/2010

The contact owns 2006 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated that while driving at speeds of 50 mph down an off ramp, the brake warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The brakes then engaged without driver intent, rapidly decreasing the vehicle speed from 50 mph to 20 mph. The dealer advised there were no failures within the vehicle. There were no repairs made to the vehicle. The failure mileage was 26,000 and the current mileage was 27,000.

13 Brake Light On problem of the 2006 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 12/17/2009

Couple things happened- right after we both Sienna, about 1 month later the brake light went on. It was late Sunday night, so the dealership was closed. We went there the following week. They couldn't find a problem, cause the light went off. When I left the dealer, the light went back on so I left my car thereand told them I'm not going to drive until they find a problem. I have 2 small kids and their safety is first. They fix it and said that some sensor unfortunately was damaged during the delivery and they replace it. Then I got problem with my power side door- will still be closing even if you try to stop it. Solution from the dealer- lubricate and that's it- it still happen from time to time. Next- front passenger and second row seat belts- lock during the trip. Dealer solution- they don't see the problem. Now about 2 months ago my accelerator got suck while driving for about 15 seconds. I did not made a big deal out of it, because I was sure it suppose to happen, but NW after hearing what going on with other Toyota models, I'm just not sure. The gas pedal did not got stuck to the carpet for sure- I would see it, it was like it got stuck at 70mph. . . I love my Sienna and husband drives corolla too and we both love Toyotas. I just think now it's not about love for the engine, it's about safety of our children. If necessary I have documents regarding the brake sensor replacement, seat belts complains, etc. I spoke with the dealer about the gas pedal and said to me that my model its not in the recall and it could be something else, but did not offer to check what could it be. . .

14 Brake Light On problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 10/16/2009

1. Events leading to the failure: my wife was traveling north on peebles rd in allison park, PA in our 2004 Toyota, Sienna. After my wife proceeded through the intersection with duncan avenue the driver of the vehicle in front of my wife suddenly stopped short and that person's brake lights did not come on. When my wife realized the situation she hit her brakes hard and the pedal went quickly to the floor providing no braking and resulting in my wife?s vehicle to hit the vehicle in front of her. While all vehicles were traveling well within the speed limit the damage was extensive as the vehicle in front of my wife was a Ford explorer. 2. The failure, frequency, and consequences: I have tried to replicate this failure and can readily recreate it. In a safe environment I have tried to suddenly and dramatically hit the brakes and the pedal quickly goes right to the floor. Some fairly limited braking does occur during these attempted re-creations but it seems to be too little and delayed. My wife's vehicle was significantly damaged requiring $7,083. 61 in total repair cost (documentation is available). 3. While the crash was the first time for such a dramatic failure, our concerns of the softness of the braking system had been previously reported to a local Toyota dealer and their response was "that is how those brakes are". So nothing has really been done to correct the failure and I believe all the parts in the braking system currently are original to the vehicle.

15 Brake Light On problem of the 2002 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 09/25/2007

The contact owns a 2002 Toyota Sienna. At 34,006 miles, the brakes began to make squeaking noises and the brake warning light illuminated. The failure occurred while driving 45 mph. At 36,000, 46,000, and 49,000 miles, the dealer replaced the front and rear brakes, the rear and front rotors, and also resurfaced the front and rear drums. The repairs were performed under warranty. Nevertheless, the brakes continued to squeak and the brake pedal must be depressed very hard in order for the vehicle to stop. The dealer stated that the noise was due to the brake buster and it needed to be replaced at the cost of $1,000 since the vehicle was out of warranty. The manufacturer stated that they could not be of assistance since the warranty expired. They provided the contact with reference number 2007-0220392. The current mileage was 78,000 and failure mileage was 34,006. The dealer stated arm rests, replaced brake light bulb, squeak in the inside cabin. Updated 11/26/07.

16 Brake Light On problem of the 2002 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 10/27/2006

Began having indicator lights on dashboard of my vehicle (Toyota Sienna 2002) come on for no apparent reason; specifically, the csv and brake lights concurrently. It seemed to occur more when temperature was cold outside. Initially thought it was a faulty sensor, but when the intermittent nature of fault became more frequent, was concerned could be a serious brake problem. I took to dealer; diagnosis was a 'faulty sensor' on the wheel's "sensor/hub assembly". Apparently, it is impossible to replace the faulty sensor without replacing the complete assembly at a cost of over $600 for the part, not including labor, at $115/hr. (it also took them an hr just to diagnose, so add another $115). They disabled sensor while part on order, which meant that my anti-lock breaks - a key safety feature of the vehicle-- will not work until part is replaced. While my car is over 4 yrs old, it only has 31,042 miles on it. I find it unbelievable that a part of this significance to safety has failed at such a minimal amount of miles. Moreover, it was reported to me by dealer's service tech, that they "hardly ever have failures of this part". It may be a statistical anomaly. . . Or not. . . Perhaps they have discouraged folks from reporting this very costly failure of a key safety related part.

17 Brake Light On problem of the 2000 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 10/31/2002

At approximately 40,000 miles anti-lock brake warning light started turning off and on. Eventually abs light stayed on and the abs system stopped functioning. The abs system has not been repaired due to the very high cost of the abs actuator part. The lack of a functioning abs system makes the car unsafe in situations where the anti-lock braking feature is needed (such as wet roads).
