2005 Toyota Sienna. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle brakes malfunction. The consumer stated while driving down the highway at normal speed, the anti-skid activated on a dry road. The consumer stated the incident happened several more times, each time as the road curved to the right. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic. However, he was unable to find a problem, except for over-inflated tires. The consumer took the vehicle to another mechanic, but to no avail. The abs continued to activate. After doing some research, it was determined the issue was the steering sensor. It was replaced at a cost of $ 850. As the consumer left the shop, the left rear brake was not working properly, making odd sounds.

My Toyota Sienna 2000 might has an abs system malfunction and caused a minor accident on Aug 28 2007 at 3:30 pm. The weather ~90c and sunny. I drove in school zone at the time the school over and the students presented on the sidewalk. I drove ~20-25 mph or less. The distance between my van and the car in front of me ~ 2 cars space. The car in front of me stopped suddenly because of one car in front of us turned left or made a u turn without warning. I stepped on my brake pedal very hard but the van still cruised like the brake was doing anything and I hit to the rear end of the car in front of me. My car have 133,000 mile on it. I had my front brake replaced by dealer when it 100,000 mile, the same time they replaced the timing bell, they told me the rear brake were in good condition at that time so I didn't had it replaced. Till now, I still have not heard any noise from my brake, no warning indicator light, and it has been always reacting correctly everytime I stepped on the brake paddle until the day my car involved into the accident. I plan after fixing the body of my van, I will send it to Toyota dealer for a break and abs system check or inspection. I have a neighbor also have a Toyota Sienna 1999 van and he told me that he also involved in accident last year at the low speed and the abs system didn't work also. And he brought it to the dealer for inspection, they found nothing wrong and his van had not failed again. I hope if there is problem of Toyota Sienna brake or abs system, your agency will investigate and notify us so we can avoid any accident related in the future. I will report the same thing to the dealers service department when I bring my van in for repair. Thanks for your help.

: the contact stated intermittently while applying brake pressure, the pedal will go to the floor. In addition, the vehicle accelerated without warning causing an accident. One person sustained minor injuries and there was a crash and property damage. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the problem could not be duplicated and the contact was informed that the vehicle is functioning normally.
2000 Toyota Sienna with approx. 64,000 miles: antilock brake system (abs) computer failed. Dealer said replacement cost would be $2000 and blamed failure on "dirty brake fluid" which seems extremely unlikely since vehicle was purchased as a certified used vehicle at 36,000 miles less than 2 years prior to failure. Failed abs computer is still installed on vehicle since we cannot afford to replace it.
When braking hard at highway speed brakes apply to much back pressure, causing the vehicle brakes to seem defective. I almost crashed.
I took my 2000 Toyota Sienna into a dealer because the "abs" light went on approximately 2-3 days ago. Although phoenix has had a wet winter, there has been no significant rain for a number of days. The dealer said the abs "ecu" was "dripping wet" and the abs computer was "fried". The cost to replace with materials and labor was $1,800. Do these units typically fail? why would the ecu be so exposed to the elements as to make it "dripping wet"? he did not identify any defect in any protective cover (if there is such a thing).
Wife was in school parking lot attempting to park, traveling less than 10 mph, applied brakes, and brake pedal went to floor/with no brake action. Vehicle hopped a curb and struck wrought iron fence. Consumer placed vehicle in reverse and got it off curb, then into park. Visible damage to front bumper & license plate, possible damage to undercarriage. Iron fence was twisted/ bent and disconnected from gated entrance. Contacted dealership and tow truck was dispatched. Tow truck driver scott"from la costa towing noted that the brake pedal was soft, and went to the floor when he started the vehicle. Traveled to dealership in second car, assistant service manager steve adams commented that because we alleged a manufacturing defect vehicle should not have been towed to their location because it might be an admission of liability. Vehicle was retained at Toyota carlsbad lot . Consumer was advised to contact Toyota customer service tomorrow morning to schedule an engineer to examine the vehicle and determine whether or not there was a manufacturing defect. To date, no work had been done on the vehicle. Consumer did not know exactly what caused the failure or what was necessary to correct it. Consumer purchased the vehicle new in February 2004, and it had aproximately 7500 miles.
My wife was attempting to backup up when she put the van in reverse it did not move. She took her foot of the gas the van started rolling backwards. When she applied the brakes the pedal went to the floor and would not stop. She then rolled backwards down a 75-80 degree bank for about 75-100 yards. Along she was kept pumping the brakes but they continued to failed. At the end of her trip the van slammed backwards into a tree, causing injury, and big damage to the van. This really did happen ! after all this is to strange to be madeup.
My wife was trying to backup, when she put the van in gear and pushed the gas, nothing happened. She let her foot of the gas and the 2005 van starting rolling. She then applied the brakes, but they did not work, the brakes went completely to the floor. She then rolled down a very steep backwards and hit a tree, this is a big problem< toyoda better do something befroe someone dies. But my guess is that someone already has.
While driving 10 mph, the abs malfunctioned. Even when driving on dry pavement the braking distance increased. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, but the dealer was not able to duplicate the problem. The vehicle failed twice at intersections, twice attempting to come to a stop to park and once when going down a hill. (always under 10 mph).

While driving ay any speed and applying the brakes consumer heard a noise, it sounded like it was coming through the gas tank. Dealer indicated nothing was wrong with the vehicle.
While pulling out of the parking lot attempting to accelerate, a severe vibration and or pounding occurred in the front end. It was determined that the computer actuation of the pulsating brakes to counteract false perception of skidding. (the driver did not apply the brake pedal during the event).
Our 1999 Toyota Sienna van has 73,000 miles we replaced the rotors 2 times and we are still having problems with the brakes. When we apply the brakes we get vibration on the pedal. We are being told that this can be due to the weight of the van. Also it could be the brake system is to small for this van. Is this a manufacturing problem and is anyone else having the same problem.

Air pressure gauge light came on. Dealer examined vehicle, and found nothing wrong. When braking brakes squeak. Dealer replaced abs actuator. At this time, air pressure gauge light is on again. Please provide additional information.
Brakes making clunking and scraping noise. Dealer says drums are cracking.
The actuator pump for the abs locked up, Toyota is refusing to replaced the pump because the vehicle is out of warrenty. Nlm.
Location-parking lot, raining, tires lost traction and accelerator stuck on full, brakes would not function. The vehicle propelled forward glancing off the back of a full sized pickup and deflected into a suburban where it finally stopped. No one was hurt but this situation could have been very serious if anyone had been near because I had very little control(steering only).
Brake pedal almost goes to the floor, resulting in extended stopping distance. Dealer has adjusted the brakes three times. The manufacturer has been notified. Also, rear brakes are not self adjusting. Owner should be notified of possible extended stopping distance.
My wife was driving on I-5 on our 1998 Toyota Sienna van, when the brakes got locked-up and we started skidding. The vehicle went out of control and swerved to to the median and collided with the cable divider. We all survivived because of the cable, the van is still in body shop. I am worried about the safety of its brake system and the related parts.
While consumer is driving tire pressure light goes on. Dealer says abs actuator is dfective. Dealership is waiting for parts to repair vehicle. Please add VIN#.
Consumer states that the failure of skid indicator lamp illuminated, dealer replaced the vehicle with a new one.

Consumer stated while traveling 15-30 mph depressed brakes and pedal traveled to floorboard, causing extended stopping distance.
Intermittently when the brakes are applied the pedal went to the floor, resulting in extended stopping distance. The dealer has inspected and repaired the vehicle several times.
Brake clunking noise when backing up.
When applying the brakes vehicle pulls to the left or right. Dealer couldn't duplicate the problem.
I bought this 2000 Sienna new. I have had three major problems in two years. The latest failure is on transmission. Toyota replaced it with a rebuilt and it is giving me all sorts of problems that Toyota is refusing to acknowledge and unwilling to replace the substandard transmission with a new part. The transmission is noisey. I have experienced slips in gears, hesitation in shifting , underpower when accelerating beyond 60-65 mph or driving on hills. I have difficulties changing in and out of fast lanes, it is dangeours and Toyota insisted that it meets the standard. The same arrogance that they have displayed when I presented them with the power door porblem. Now they revealed to me that they acknowledged the door problem but why aren't them issuing a recall. There was also problem with the antilock brakes. I nned you assistance to resolve my transmission problem as well as bring the safety issue on Sienna to the public awareness!.
