I brought a 2009/tacoma prerunner /acc cab 4x2 v6-and it has about 18,500 miles. My compliant is when you put this vehicle in neutral at a red light or when you stop and then put it in drive---the transmission spins for a few seconds and then it take off. I brought this to the attention of the local Toyota dealer and the service person told me that this was neural with this vehicle. It?s hard to believe that this is a neutral thing. My other Tacoma 2007 did not do this at all. I feel there is something wrong with this transmission. To me it's a safety hazard especially when you have the vehicle is natural/park and then you put it in drive and the vehicle goes no-where for a few second and then it take off very fast. This needs to be look in to I would be happy to bring in my vehicle for test at the local dealership. Maybe I am not explaining well enough for you to understand --however, please call me an I can explain better.

Vehicle surges forward slightly when stopped at stoplight. Happens nearly every time I stop the vehicle without having it in park mode. The severity of the surge seems to be proportional with the velocity of the vehicle prior to stopping (I. E. Surge is more pronounced when stopping from a higher velocity than from a lower velocity). The surge event occurs roughly 2-3 seconds after vehicle comes to a full stop, and lasts perhaps 0. 5 seconds then goes away. With the foot on the brake, the vehicle doesn't go very far, but it's a safety concern in the event the surge becomes uncontrollable. Corrective action has been to maintain a greater-than-usual distance from the intersection or from the vehicle in front.
I purchased a 2009 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 and the transmission intermittently slips, mostly when you first accelerate(I have almost been involved in 2 car accidents due to this)after talking and bringing the vehicle back to the dealer they say its normal,I have found that on edmunds. Com 108 other Toyota Tacoma owners are having the same problem and getting the same answers from the dealers, you never know when its going to slip but I don't let my wife or kids ride in the truck.
My 2006 4 door 4x4 Toyota Tacoma has an unintended acceleration problem. The first incident: I was driving down the ramp of a parking garage when the Tacoma suddenly started accelerating out of control. My foot was covering the brake when the acceleration began and when I put hard pressure on the brakes the truck was still accelerating. Nothing slowed it down, I was slamming through the (automatic) gears desperately trying to stop the truck. I had to go over walk ways and curbs to avoid pedestrians and cement barriers. I finally came to a stop against a Lincoln town car. The second incident (yesterday) I was driving through an intersection when the truck suddenly felt like it was floored and took off. I was slamming the brakes and going through the auto gears and it continued for about 30 seconds until it came to a stop. I am very disappointed to read that Toyota is denying this issue. Peoples lives are at stake and the problem really does exist according to the 423 complaints. I have always loved Toyota trucks but I am sad to say this one is going to have to go. What if the Toyota Tacoma kills someone next time this happens? I wish someone could do something about this. . . How many accidents will it take?.

My 2008 Toyota Tacoma tends to surge when downshifting. This causes the pickup to "jump", particularly when coming to a stop. I took it to the dealer, downtown Toyota of spokane, but they could find nothing wrong - surprise! I was told that the air conditioner could cause the problem when it kicked on, but the air conditioner nor the heater/defroster has been on when the surges occurred. The incident date is the last time it happened - today. It is not very pleasant to drive under these conditions.

2007 Toyota Tacoma has intrinsic problem with transmission surge after vehicle is stopped at intersection. Number of complaints viewed online indicate real problem with this model.
2008 Toyota Tacoma, June 16, 2008 I took my truck to the dealers garage and told them that the pickup motor was engine speed would race when I was as a stop, with my foot on the brake, and that my fuel miles had drop 5 miles a gallon. Also that the transmission would slam in and out of low gear going up and down a hill. They claim they put it on the computer and it did not show any error. So that the truck is fine, they told me that it was probably from when my air conditioner was on I told them I don't run my air conditioner. But the told me to just watch it because they could not find anything wrong.
Disruptive shifting of the automatic transmission in my '07 Toyota Tacoma truck. It also accelerates when braking at a stop and "lunges" forward at times.
Rear axle seals continue to leak after being repaired by the dealer twice.
On my 2007 Toyota Tacoma v6 4x4 after abruptly braking and coming to a stop the truck will lunge forward. This has happened about 3 times. The first time I thought someone rear ended me. It only happens after an abrupt stop. The ac is not on nor is cruise control and I'm not in 4wd.
Truck surges forward when brakes are on but it has a mind of it's own. My Toyota Tacoma 2007 will start revving and red line and be nearly impossible to stop without turning the engine off and using the e-brake. There is a major problem with it and Toyota denies to admit anything is wrong. This is the second time I have brought it to Toyota and this time I was in a bad accident because it would not stop.
My 2006 double cab Tacoma trd off road tends to lunge forward as I am coming to a stop. It has never caused me to wreck but it could some day. It seems to be a transmission issue with the deceleration or something.
Almost daily my 2005 Toyota Tacoma double cab truck lurches forward during deceleration and also at a complete stop. A few times it has lurched forward a foot or more while idling at a stop sign or stop light. Updated 10/16/07.
Late shifting, shuddering, lurching at idle.
When stopping the vehicle sometimes once stopped the truck will lurch forward for no reason. The truck feels as though it is going to get away from me. This has happened several times and no one seems to be able to help.
Truck lurches forward when a/c conpressor engages while stopped. It is so severe that the truck moves forward and creates a potential risk for an accident.
While driving in over-drive and brakes must be applied like in a stop sign or traffic light, driver will sense some acceleration and movement of vehicle with brake pedal applied. It feels like a rear hit of the vehicle.
I bought a 07 Toyota Tacoma double cab with automatic transmission in February. I have noticed on multiple occasions that while sitting stopped,a/c off, right foot on brake, the truck suddenly surged against the brakes. I think if I had not had firm pressure on the brake pedal the truck would have actually moved forward. I became aware of other Tacoma owners experiencing this on the internet Toyota forums. The incident date below is just the last time it happened.
When at a complete stop for several seconds to a minute with the transmission in drive , e. G. At a stop light, the vehicle will surge forward as if the gas pedal has been momentarily depressed.
1) 2005 Toyota Tacoma "lurch" while slowing or stopped. I have noticed it with or without a/c or defrost on. Generally, I come to a complete stop, and a few seconds later, it feels as though the vehicle lurches forward slightly. 2) while it has not caused an accident, it is somewhat disconcerting. 3) no repairs or replacement parts have been effected. I've guessed it is a transmission downshift, and the resulting increased torque at the rear wheels results in the lurch. The more firmly the brakes are applied, the less noticeable the problem.
2006 Toyota Tacoma, many times when stopped at a red light I too have experience the "lurching". I will have my foot on the brake and for some reason the engine goes to a higher idle and the break is no longer adequate to keep the truck stopped and so it jumps/lurches ahead. Pressing harder on the brake is the answer to this issue. I also at times feel like the trusk does not want to stop. . . When coasting to a red light the truck kinda wants to keep going. I too thought I was being pick but now that I have read these other posts I'm going to take this vehicke back to the dealership and demand a fix. .
Vehicle has a extreme high idle and or high transmission head pressure. Vehicle only indicates approx 600-700 idle rpm's warm, however; when letting off the gas vehicle wants to lurch and take off. Very uneasy in stop and go traffic, feels like driver is about to loss control and strike the vehicle ahead. Took to dealer and advised this is a normal condition. This was also verified by testing 2 other like vehicles(07/v6/automatic).
I have an '06 Toyota Tacoma that "lurches" when at a stop but still in drive. After a few seconds from coming to a stop, the vehicle idles higher and if the brakes are not depressed to the floor the vehicle will move forward.
Erratic, sometimes dangerous transmission shifting while using the cruise control.
Rear-end whines between 50 & 65 mph, going up grade. (auto trans. Reg. Cab, 2. 7 engine) I took it to my Toyota dealer and they told me it was road noise. Well I know the difference between road noise & a mechanical noise. I just want this to go on record. Thank you.
Upon coming to a stop (most of the time. . . Perhaps more then 50%), the vehicle will 'lurch' forward slightly. . . Even when the brake is depressed. This was reported to the dealer a year ago (and is on file with them). I was told that this condition was 'normal'. No action has been taken by the dealer to correct or otherwise stop this condition. It has not been so bad that I could not stop the vehicle (just press the brake pedal harder). Still, if not paying attention, a collision might readily occur in stopped traffic.
2005 Toyota Tacoma automatic lurches forward at stop after coming to a complete stop. Wife complained that sometimes it felt like she had been hit in rear end. I have noticed the same while driving her truck. She says it has been doing this for a long time. With all the reports on this problem, seems like Toyota would do something about it.
The contact states when starting the vehicle in the morning the idle was high. It took approximately one to one and a half miles of driving for the idle to return to normal. The accelerator pedal stuck. When shifting from fourth gear to fifth without foot on the accelerator the vehicle accelerated on its own. She stated that fourth gear could not be used. The vehicle must be shifted from third gear to fifth gear. The vehicle has been to the dealership twice, and they stated the computer was learning. The manufacturer was contacted, and they agreed with the dealership. Therefore, no repairs have been made . Updated 01/25/06.
I pulled into a parking spot with my 2005 Tacoma automatic and I had my foot completely on the brake when the truck lunged forward. It felt like someone rear ended me. Its been doing it every once in a while at stop lights since then.
2001 Tacoma 2 wheel drive 4 door pre runner. Have had a horrible "clunk when I realease brakes. The whole truck jerks and the transmission shift lever jumps about 3 inches. Took it to precision Toyota in tucson and was told it is called axle wrap. I did some reasearch on axle wrap and basically it is worn out rear springs. The only thing I have carried in the truck heavy is my 200 lb. Motorcycle. The truck has high mileage and is all interstate driving. The problem is getting worse and have seen another complaint here. I am worried what kind of damage it is doing to the whole drive train. What's going to "snap"?.

Transmission-power train. While driving in low speed situations the vehicle's transmission shifts from 1st to 2nd. . . . . Back and forth from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 1st. I took the vehicle to the dealer and they advised that they couldn't find anything wrong with it. It has 76k miles on it. I was just wondering if anyone else was having this problem.

Power train - just bought my truck about 3 months ago. During the test drive, I was extremely impressed by the ride of my Tacoma. A few weeks after I had it, I started to experience the clunking sound coming from underneath. I have to the dealership 3 times now, and everytime I have been told was normal. I was told all automatic transmissions do this. This is the second Toyota truck I have owned, and I could tell you this, they don't come up with a resolution, it will be my last. I also drive a celica (great car), but if I lose the truck, then I losing the celica, and will want nothing to do with Toyota's again!!!.
After approx. Putting 5,000 miles on my Tacoma 2003 double cab, I started noticing when normally bringing the vehicle to a complete stop, there is a cluncking sound from the rear end. The harder you stop the vehicle the worse it gets. It's like getting slightly rearended by another vehicle. If it doesn't make this cluncking feeling and sound as you come to a stop, it will do it once you let off of the brake pedal to idle/roll forward to advance at a traffic light, stop sign, etc. This appears to be getting worse as I continue to drive the vehicle which now has 24,000 miles on it. I took it to ron carter auto world and the service department tells me that Toyota is aware of this and considered it normal. If this is normal why don't other vehicles do this? it gets annoying looking into the rear view mirror every time this happens thinking that you've be rearended by another vehicle.
