36 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2016 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 02/15/2016

After 10,000 miles the airbag light came on. Then the next day the check engine light came on as well as the traction control. Called the dealership and they looked at it saying I just need new sensors. Drove it a couple more days and noticed the cruise control was non existent. I drive a lot for work and use it a ton and all of a sudden it wouldn't even bring the light on or work at all. The next day started driving and the real issues started. Turned truck on; same problems I have been having; then the truck would not shift. Kept going and going till I was getting to 5000rpm and it shifted with a tremendous amount of force. Once it shifted the whole truck did a huge jerk then went a little more an did a double shift totally bypassing the 3rd gear. I turned it off and started it again. Kept having the same problem all day. I called the dealership and they said get it to them when I could and they would take a look. Almost caused several accidents trying to get the brand new $35,000 truck that didn't work to the dealership almost running into the people in front of me who cut me off because I can't go over 40mph on the freeway and I have no control of the violent shifting moving the whole truck. Needless to say the dealership tried to blame me for all of these problems that I could not have possibly cause if I tried and that my brand new truck with 10,000miles on it was fine just needed a couple sensors. Obviously this is not working and I think sensors are the least of the worries.

37 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 12/21/2014

While driving the vehicle loses pedal response due to the throttle control motor shutting down and the check engine light coming on. The engine either shuts down completely or the becomes very jerky and cannot sustain an idle. Incidents began to occur around 95,000 miles odo but stopped for several years after a mechanic worked on the vehicle and said the throttle position sensor was out of alignment. More recently the truck has again been experiencing the same problem as before: loss of pedal response, and in addition it now shuts the engine down and the gauges shoot up to the top of the charts and tick unresponsively until the key is removed from the ignition. This has occurred multiple times now in traffic and along the roadway where the truck becomes unresponsive and is difficult to drive safely off of the roadway.

38 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 10/30/2014

I was driving at a normal speed on the highway. The gas pedal became unresponsive. I had to push the pedal all the way to the floor in order to get up to speed. The check engine light came on and the transmission had trouble switching between gears. This problem occured intermittently and continues to happen. The code that has come up is to replace the throttle body, which I have two separate times, but again the new replacement part is quoted at $1000.

39 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 07/10/2014

While driving on the freeway about 55mph my truck stalled on me twice doe a second. Also pulling out of my drive I had a hesitation in acceleration and almost got hit from a oncoming vehicle. They are no check engine light that comes on. Took it to a mechanic and they couldnt fin a issue.

40 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

2004 Toyota Tacoma v6 3. 4l 5vz-fe with automatic transmission. Toyota originally equipped this vehicle with a throttle by wire system. The vehicle unexpectedly does not respond to accelerator pedal position. Toyota on board diagnostic system does not detect fault thus does not log any error codes or illuminate check engine light. Occurrence rate and duration of events is intermittent and inconsistent. Velocity of the vehicle rapidly decreases unexpectedly and momentarily as if foot was temporarily removed from the accelerator pedal. Vehicle also unexpectedly and momentarily does not respond when accelerator pedal is depressed to begin moving or suddenly decreases speed when accelerating. This is a potential hazard in situations such as cruising in traffic, clearing an intersection, crossing railroad tracks, etc. . . Occurrence rate and duration of problem seems to be worsening over time or with increased ambient temperatures.

41 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2003 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 11/15/2012

Purchased used vehicle from private seller. On the first day of use, after obtaining new title, tags, insurance coverage, the check engine light came on. The following day scheduled service w/ the local Toyota dealer. Upon inspection was told that the truck needed a catalytic converter and there was a recall for the lower front ball joints that the dealer will replace for free. The dealer had to order the parts. After receiving the parts and upon start of the repairs, I received a phone informing me that the frame was rusted and the vehicle is deemed unsafe to drive. I was given an 800 phone number to call and deal directly with Toyota corporate office. I am patiently awaiting for a response.

42 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 10/20/2009

My 2004 Toyota Tacoma has an intermittent problem with a loss of power, I. E. When I step on the accelerator, it fails to respond for a brief period of time. It is a problem when pulling out into traffic, as the loss of power has led to several near collisions. The vehicle has been to the dealer twice to diagnose the problem, without a clear cause, according to the dealer. Research through an independent service shop points to a problem with the accelerator pedal position sensor. Research on Toyota Tacoma forums online also seem to support this. The only viable fix seems to be to replace the entire throttle body, since the sensors are not available separately. This cost is over $1200, as opposed to a $70 sensor. The problem is intermittent, and can happen many times a day, or be absent for weeks at a time. Three times it has resulted in a check engine light, with a tps fault recorded (the tps and apps are read as a unit by the ecu). The problem has not yet been adequately addressed.

43 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2003 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 08/08/2008

My engine light on my 2003 Toyota Tacoma keeps coming on. I sent $1000 to replace the oxygen sensor and then the evap connector assembly. The engine light is still on. The repair shop told me they've replaced many of these on Toyotas.

44 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2003 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 07/14/2005

Intermittent check engine light and rough idle - 2003 Toyota Tacoma 2. 7l auto, double cab, 55k miles check engine light came on. Took vehicle to local chain shop who diagnosed error code po511 - idle air control valve (iacv). Toyota parts department prices this part at $226 and service manager indicated $249 for labor (not including tax). Vehicle currently has 55k miles on it and "engine" should be covered by 6 yr/60k mile powertrain warranty. Took vehicle to dealer (to have other recalls corrected) who indicated a $90 fee was required just to diagnose check engine light. Toyota customer service indicated the iacv was only covered to 3yr/36k and that I should pay dealer fee and seek "factory assistance" for any costs to repair. I contend that this type of a part - not serviceable/maintainable by the customer, should be guaranteed against failure for more than ~50k miles and repair should be covered by manufacturer.
