Engine Shut Off Without Warning Problems of Toyota Tacoma

This car has shut off twice while driving. First time while towing a boat. . . While turning left on a high speed two lane road and second while going 45 towards a green light. Both times the car just shut off. We could have been killed. . . Twice! Toyota says "fixed' the problem "twice". We asked them to buy the car back after the second time, as we no longer felt safe in it. . . . . . . They refused. As a gesture of "good will" they offered us an extended warranty, which we had already gotten when we purchased the car so it was pointless. We created a case with them after it occurred the second time. The most recent recall that addresses this issue does not include this model year and it needs to. Someone is going to die. . This is a very serious issue. We are now stuck with a car that we don't feel safe in but Toyota would not do the right thing. Hopefully by us reporting our problem it will save someone else life.

I own a 2005 Toyota Tacoma. On several occasions the vehicle has shut down when I attempt to proceed from a stop. This occurs while I am in traffic. The vehicle may or may not start for some time after that. If it does start, it will idle ok but when I step on the gas pedal it shuts down. After continually starting for a few times it may run ok for a while. I had it serviced at a dealer the first time and they ended up replacing the computer system. It worked fine for about 3-4 months but then began doing it again. I took the vehicle in for service at the dealer again and they find nothing wrong. It has happened to me about 6 or 7 times now.

After driving the truck at highway speeds, slow into traffic or lights, release the brake peddle and start to press the gas peddle and the vehicle shuts down. This was reproduced many times after driving over 2 hours, then unable to reproduce, several days later after driving 20 minutes on highway and into traffic, pulled up to an intersection, attempted to cross and the truck stalled in the middle of the intersection with heavy traffic. The Toyota dealer and Toyota of USA, have stated that they do not have an answer for this problem that has been reported by other truck and 4runner owners. The vehicle is not safe nor reliable to drive at slow nor high speeds due to total system failures.
