1 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2018 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 06/28/2018

Around 12:30pm on 6/28 my Toyota Tacoma 2018 VIN# 3tmcz5an5jm157239 started to blink the check engine light and it was follow by the engine shaking and not taking gears up therefore very slowly accelerating up to the 40mph. Seeing all this I decided to head to the dealership big horn in glenwood springs, CO at about 1:00pm from my house in basalt, CO. But as the problem persisted I had to stop in el jebel, CO and call both the dealer and Toyota roadside assistance. My first attempt to receive service from bob adams trucking resulted in a two hour waste of time, by them canceling service and saying it was me who cancel. By this time I already spoke to both dawn at service and guest relations. 3:30 hours have passed by and here I am still sitting by the side of a dangerous busy highway starving and thirsty in a 95 degrees summer day and Toyota has not still do the best they can to take me out of this situation. A brand new $38,000 truck that I haven't even make the first payment is stuck in the road. My trust and love for the brand and its services has been lost. How can I trust to drive my family safe thinking in the back of my head that this can possibly happen again? valley towing 24hr is finally here to pick up the truck at 4:30pm almost 4 hours after I made my first call to Toyota roadside assistance. 3 days has passed by and they still have the truck in the dealer not knowing what is the problem.

2 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2018 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 05/10/2018

2018 Toyota Tacoma i4, when cool or cold engine or transmission will stall & stumble while accelerating you can be smooth or aggressive & it will occur, it has also occurred when it has been very hot outside 85-95 degrees and occurs even at normal engine operating temperature. The transmission also will down shift to 4th gear for no apparent reason while cruising @ 55-65mph on flat and level roads, it also constantly hunts 4 gears. I have been to Toyota dealership several times and the cant duplicate the issue. I have been told by Toyota that because my truck is a (4 cylinder) that they are not as many on the road as the v6's models so Toyota engeneering wont even look into the problems that I have been experiencing. They just say that's normal Toyota performance.

3 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2012 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 11/03/2017

Recently I was driving my 2012 Toyota Tacoma on the highway at a sustained speed of 70 mph. A check engine light came on and my car instantly dropped in speed to less than 40 mph while in fast moving traffic. I was almost rear ended by a large truck and was forced to cross multiple lanes of traffic to get to the berm and ascertain the situation. As I could find no issues upon inspection, I precariously drove the vehicle to a service store to read the error codes. The vehicle showed p2440 p2442 error codes indicating secondary air injection failures. Apparently, the vehicle went into limp mode upon throwing these codes which limits speed and engine rpm. This almost caused a huge accident and put me into a a very dangerous situation. Additionally upon researching these issues, it seems this is a well documented issue caused by manufacturing defects isolated to the 2012 model year. Apparently, the system is defective in multiple ways. First, a piece of foam is inside the secondary air pump which degrades and is sucked into the fan which not only causes stoppage and burning out the fan motor but also allows for stinky residue and debris to enter the valves causing them to jam open or closed. Additionally, the system allows moisture to be sucked into the valves adding to corrosion and degradation of the valves leading to them to be stuck. This is a roughly 1500. 00-2000. 00 repair. It is a quite frequent problem with this model yet is not covered under recall or service bulletin. Toyota has acknowledged the issue yet not taken any action. Additionally, they have had similar problems with the tundra/sequoia and offered remedy to owners via extended warranty. This is not only a quality control issue but more importantly a severe safety issue with the automatic reduction to a slow speed in fast heavy traffic.

4 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2017 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 12/17/2016

3. 5l v6, limited edition, extended cab, 4x4, automatic, 1200 miles on odometer. Driving about 35mph on snow covered road in four wheel drive. Engine not completely warmed up and outside air temperature 9 degrees. Suddenly engine revved up without any pressure on accelerator and vehicle went into a sideways slide into the oncoming lane. Revving lasted about 2 seconds and then came back to normal rpm's. I got vehicle back in control but the unexpected acceleration was an eye opener and I was very fortunate there were no oncoming vehicles. Vehicle will also hesitate when cold while shifting from reverse to drive and vice versa. It tends to lunge in either direction depending on which gear it is in and having your foot firmly on the brake is the only way to stop it from taking off on you once it decides to go into gear. Have read multiple related issues involving 2016 Tacoma with no Toyota fix yet.

5 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 08/08/2013

I was driving on the highway and the check engine light came on. I immediately took it to the Toyota dealer as I was right up the street from them. They scanned for the service code and it told them there was a mis-fire in the #6 cylinder. They checked the spark plug coil and said it was faulty and replaced it. When I picked up the truck from the dealer the check engine was still on. They took it back into the service bay and after 20 minutes called me over to tell me there was coolant leaking into the #6 cylinder and was determined that the engine block was cracked. This truck has never over-heated and they could not explain it. After checking the internet for others with the same problem, I found there were a few others and the mechanic told me that he has seen it before in this engine block. I can't afford a new truck, so I am stuck with paying for not only the coil replacement but also the new or refurbished engine block ($5,000+). It would be great if the NHTSA could look into the integrity and engineering of the engine block in the 2005 4. 0l v6 engine in the Toyota Tacoma.

6 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2003 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 09/06/2004

After driving the vehicle for 40 minutes to one hour fumes become sickening to the point that it was unbearable. Dealer checked the vehicle, had even kept the vehicle in the shop, typed out a report, but fumes were still coming into the vehicle.
