1 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 11/12/2018

The airbag light just turned on. Cruise control on steering wheel is not functioning, audio control on steering not working also and lastly the horn is not working also. Looks like a spiral cable problem based on the symptom and validation of discussion group online. Checked for recall here and seen my VIN number on the range for recall. Why did I not received any recall notice on this. Not sure if the vehicle is unsafe to drive considering the airbag deployed light is on or if this will affect the airbag deloyment if needed. This happened just recently and there are issues similar to my case. Hope it can be fixed by Toyota.

3 Speed Control Cable problem of the 1998 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 10/14/2010

I have a 1998 Toyota Tacoma pickup. Today October 14, 2010 I was driving on a surface street and my gas pedal dropped to the floor as I was driving. The engine revved up to extremely high rpm's. I tried to stop, but my new brakes were barely able to slow me down. I had to put the engine into neutral and park the truck. A friend and I looked the engine over and we found that there was about two inches of play in the accelerator cable were the cable meets the engine. Which would explain why I was having such poor performance problems with the engine. Is this covered by any recalls? thank you.

4 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

I do not see the recall for the spiral cable assembly on my Tacoma. I read that this VIN is part of a recall for the wiring in the steering wheel that controls my passenger airbag, cruise control and some other functions. It has malfunctioned. Why is it not listed on your website? when I checked on the status of this recall, it shows that my model, according to the VIN does qualify for this. My passenger airbag is not working, and my cruise control is no longer working at speed.

5 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2007 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 07/02/2009

I was passing another vehicle in my 2007 Toyota Tacoma. The accelerator stuck while passing. I tapped it twice trying to release it and applied the brakes. The accelerator pedal would not release and the vehicle continued to accelerate. I quickly turned off the ignition and coasted to a stop. The pedal was still laying on the floor when I stopped so I opened the engine hood and looked to see if I could see the cable linkage and see what was causing the problem. I then went back to the cab to see if the floor mat was causing the problem (it was not). As I came to the cab door I heard a pop as the accelerator pedal snapped back up (about two minutes after coasting to a stop). I then started the vehicle and it drove normally. I took the vehicle to the dealer to have it checked out. They said they could find no error codes and that they could not find anything wrong with the accelerator.

6 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2000 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 10/09/2007

The contact owns a 2000 Toyota Tacoma. While driving approximately 70 mph on normal road conditions, the cruise control was disengaged and the vehicle rapidly began accelerating. The vehicle failed to slow down; however, the contact was able to shut the engine off and restart the vehicle. The contact drove the vehicle to a nearby service station and determined that the failure was contributed to the throttle body cable connecter. The vehicle was repaired. The contact has concerns of the safety risk involved. The failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 120,000. Updated 12/07/09. Upon inspection, it was determined the cruise control cable housing clip had failed and was pulling the accelerator. Updated 12/08/09.

7 Speed Control Cable problem of the 1996 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 12/23/2000

Throttle valve cable broke during normal use of the truck. Noticed a change in transmission function and the vehicle would shift too soon and was not able to speed up normally. The transmission would shift from first to third gear at 10mph and then to 4th gear at 30 mph. It would bypass 2nd gear so I had to shift it manually in order to acheive a speedy enough start to get on the freeway. Also occurred in my brothers 96 Tacoma about 4 months ago and it seems to me that it is too much of a coincidence for it to be occurring in the same model and year truck almost at the same time. Took it in for repair and the cable was rusted so it seems like it is exposed somewhere in the engine thus causing it to get weathered and break. Repairs were over $300 dollars at dealership and I think it should have been covered under some warranty since it seems like that part should have had a housing to protect it from being weathered and rusted. I believe that many people are having to go through this same thing with this same model and year truck since it happened twice in the same family here.
