Cruise control became finicky spring/summer 2019. I found articles stating that it could be the clockspring/spiral cable. I replaced the clockspring and that fixed the cruise control issue, but it caused my airbag light to turn on. I have been driving around with the airbag light on for the last year and a half. Over that time, the radio controls on the steering wheel have quit working (first the volume, then the channel, and the mode buttons). These haven't been working for at least 3 months now. Just yesterday, the cruise control went out completely. No warning signs or acting up. It just quit. From what research I have done, this issue was handled under a recall, but the recall only applies to the Tacoma models without audio controls on the steering wheel. Has that changed at all? why were not all versions/configurations covered?.

Issue was noticed while driving, attempted to activate horn when vehicle in oncoming lane crossed in to my lane. Horn would not activate. Thankfully other driver course corrected in time. Complaint is related to has been reported to me by Toyota as sudden failure of the clock spring or spiral cable. Horn failed approximately one week after vehicle had just passed an annual state inspection. Was informed that this is something "that happens" with time and forced to pay $700 to have repaired. Was warned that part that failed was also in control of airbags, cruise control and other electronics embedded in the steering column. This is an item which has previously been voluntarily recalled on other model years of Toyota Tacoma's and other models.

I have reported to Toyota that my cruise control works intermittently and that it goes on and off as it pleases. Toyota has responded that that issue is not covered with the current spiral cable clock spring recall. My truck VIN is a few digits away from the current list. I have replace the brake light switch, the cruise control switch and the problem persists. The spiral cable clock spring controls the cruise control just like does connection between the steering wheel airbag and/or the vehicle's horn and other devices and the vehicle's electrical systems. My cruise control has quit/stopped while the truck is in motion.
Over the last ++18 months, when ac is on, the truck idle will idle at about 1500-1800rpm. After having mechanic do a couple throttle body cleaning it did come down below 1000-1200rpm. For the last 5 months, when shifting (either up or down) between 4th & 5th gear, the engine surge to 3200-3600 rpm as soon as clutch is depressed + accelerator is released. In 2011 when the dealer did recall # 09v388000, the engine surging issue was not that as severe as it is today. In last 3 months, beside engine revving up , I started getting engine error codes. 07/12/2017 took my Tacoma truck to dealer for available recalls: 12v092: air bag spiral cable 13v337: seat belts 14v604: rear leaf springs; these broke in January 2013 & I replaced both sides with skyjackers tcr515s (4leafs) and I have no intention to replace them. I think that in early 2011, the dealer did recall 09v388000 but this dealer could not find any reference to it so they would not address that issue; but he would want to open engine to check that timing chain is not defective/ off which he claimed is the cause of the surging between 4th/5th gear. This diagnostic would be at my cost. I refuse because I disagree with this logic, I do not have lost of power but only engine revving up like crazy and high iddle when clutch is depressed.

Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that the leaf spring fractured with no warning and that there was a punctured hole which damaged the fuel tank. The contact tried for several months before the failure, to schedule a repair and the dealer indicated that they did not have a remedy to fix the vehicle for several months and then the failure occured with no warning. The contact was included in NHTSA campaign id numbers: 14v604000 (suspension), 12v092000 (air bags), 09v388000 (vehicle speed control) and was unable to determine for months when the parts would become available to schedule the recall repairs. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop who replaced the leaf springs because the dealer did not have a permanent fix for the failure. The fuel tank was also replaced by the repair shop. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was not available.

I have a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. I took it to my local Toyota dealer in August to address the recalls needing to be done. They tell me they are backed up trying to get recalls fixed. It is now November and have not been called yet. Now the leaf springs are on recall. I replaced one leaf spring in September 2014 due to it snapping. Will I get reimbursed from Toyota for this repair?? I have not heard from my local Toyota dealer as to when they can fix the recalls, they said they will call me when they can get me in. What year will that be? will my second leaf spring snap and puncture the tank before it gets repaired? or will the frame possible rust out and fall on the leaf springs. . . . . . . I love Toyota Tacomas, disappointed in the follow thru/timeliness on fixing these problems.

The problem with leaf spring started three years and after the final recall, we waited two months. The bad leaf spring caused a rough vibration, which caused rod, dry shaft, u joint, and rear end are connected which caused damage to all connected parts. The three years and two months of rough vibration caused a snowball effect while driving, turning and in motion.
I am a mechanic for 5 years. My wife always drive the truck. Never me. On Jan 27 the problem started when I start entering the freeway or speed up. I have to step on gas to the metal. I noticed there is a electronic or sensor delay on the gas pedal. Causing me to really bottom the gas pedal. By that time I reach ideal speed. I let go of the gas pedal then there is another problem the truck does not stop immediately or decelerate because the sensor has a delay. I have to step on the brakes very hard. I explained this to the dealer few days ago. But told me my truck is not part of this recall. Right now I tried to put some lube on the joint of the pedal but it is electronic-problem compare to cable and spring. Once you release the pedal it will decelerate on its own. Pls help me and have this recalled. The computer or the speed on the throttle sensor should be real time. From the moment you step in the gas the sensor should immediately send to computer to go accelerate. When release it should immediately send to computer split second decelerate. That delay is causing issues of safety. Now I have to tell my wife to give enough space because the truck seemed to be very heavy fighting the deceleration delay process and weight plus brakes. In California drivers will cut you off.

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Tacoma which was purchased brand new. He stated that while he was utilizing the 4-wheel drive and attempting to accelerate making either a left or right turn at any speed over 5 mph, the vehicle would jerk as if it was resistant to accelerating. When driving over any type of bump in the road, the vehicle would shake violently and would exhibit a banging noise similar to clanging metal. Upon startup, there was a buzzing noise coming from the vehicle. The dealer stated that they would have to remove the leaf spring and lubricate the components, unknown to the contact, in order to investigate the failure. There were no repairs made to the vehicle. There were no recalls. The failure mileage was under 15,000 and current was 62,340.
Last spring, my husband and I filed a complaint against Toyota for stuck accelerator pedal in our 2006 Tacoma pick-up truck. We had about 4 incidents where the pedal was stuck, during speeds ranging from 30-60 miles per hour. The floor mats were not the issue. Toyota denied any problems at the time and our only choice was to leave our truck at the dealership because we were afraid to drive it home or sell it to someone else. They suggested we trade in the vehicle for a new truck, which we did, for a 2009 Tacoma. I am very disburbed that Toyota did not include the Tacoma on the recall list when we know for a fact it has the issue, at least the 2006 model did. I fear that the recall list is incomplete (all 2006 Tacomas on the road are a hazard) and fear that my truck might have the issue too.
