38 Steering problem of the 2023 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 11/23/2022

Experience steering wheel vibrations between speeds of 60 mph and 80 mph - have taken vehicle to dealership and they have confirmed problem but said it was a characteristic condition of the suspension on vehicle. It is highly distracting when operating a motor vehicle at freeway speeds and with out warning the steering wheel starts shaking back and forth. Dealership has rebalanced and rotated tires 5 times and performed vehicle alignment - recently they changed the tire and loading information decal which changed the air pressure from 36psi down to 29 psi (did not tell me about that) vehicle rides better but steering wheel vibration still happens unannounced at speeds between 60 mph & 80 mph.

39 Steering problem of the 2004 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 09/19/2022

I was driving home from a neighboring city after picking up a friend and on my way there on the interstate I noticed the back end of the vehicle was very loose. Upon arriving at my apartment and parking the vehicle I contacted a friend who was a prior state safety inspector, he looked under the vehicle and said the frame right where the shackle for the leaf spring on the driver's side had completely blown out and was no longer connected. Checked the passenger side and said it was connected by maybe 1/4 of an inch of frame. I was made aware of a safety recall that expired back in 2019 by hailey Toyota and was informed they would not fix it for free. Neither myself or the original owner had every received documentation regarding this issue and was never informed that the entire frame had to be replaced under the recall/extended warranty. I have shelled out well over $600 in materials and labor to have my frame welded and patched with a kit specifically made for these vehicles and this issue and I'm still having problems out of it.

44 Steering problem of the 2007 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 03/01/2022

Steering has developed a clunk at low speeds. Appears intermediate shaft is bad. Dealer wants over 500 to replace. Online it is a very common problem. The steering shaft goes bad . . How much more dangerous can you get?.

45 Steering problem of the 2014 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 10/22/2021

I took my vehicle in to the dealer where I always have it serviced, and asked them to do a front end alignment, since it pulls slightly and I noticed a little uneven tire wear. The mechanic said the front suspension is too rusted to align. I took the vehicle to a tire shop recommended by the dealer service advisor, and they said it is extremely rusted and sprayed some penetrating oil on it. I posted some pictures online in a Tacoma forum and everyone thought the rust was excessive, especially for a southern California vehicle where the roads aren't salted. I am the original owner. Based on what I read in online Tacoma forums, excessive frame rust was a well documented problem for earlier years there is excessive rust and corrosion on the front frame, suspension and steering, preventing proper steering alignment as normal maintenance. The problem was originally identified by the dealer last month during a routine 5,000 mile oil change service; they never notified me about a problem in any previous service, and the problem was independently confirmed by a tire shop when I tried to have them perform a front wheel alignment. There are no warnings or symptoms, and the need for a front end alignment is due to normal wear and tear.

46 Steering problem of the 2014 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 10/18/2021

While driving on the freeway, the steering wheel began to shake vigorously, then the right front wheel came completely off the truck. The ball joints snapped off causing a wreck. My truck slid into the side of a big rig. Luckily nobody was hurt, but the failed ball joints were the cause of the accident in my opinion. I also have the dash cam video from the big rig.

47 Steering problem of the 2004 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 10/04/2021

2004 Toyota Tacoma - 61k miles. Has had its rack & pinion replaced 3 times. Sounds like this is a common issue from google searches but Toyota does nothing about it. . .

48 Steering problem of the 2016 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 09/24/2021

During routine maintenance at a independent shop, the driver side power steering rack boot was found to be leaking. I was informed by a former Lexus master technician that this was a problem with some of the similar Lexus models previously. The vehicle currently had 47,xxx miles which seems very low for a power steering failure. I can provide images of the leak as needed and the vehicle has not been repaired as of this filing.

50 Steering problem of the 2003 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 06/06/2021

While driving, on the highway, the rear shock absorber support mount came loose, allowing the truck bed to come loose from the frame/chassis. Fortunately only the passenger side came loose, keeping the truck's bed attached to the rear of the truck I later found that this particular model has a problem with frame rot which generated a Toyota bulletin. I bought the truck from Toyota, as a used truck in 2011, but received no notifications of this potentially hazardous vehicle. If the bed had come loose at highway speed, any vehicle following the 2003 Toyota Tacoma truck would have been severely damaged or potentially resulted in the death of the people in the cars following behind me and the truck. There was a Toyota bulletin issued previously which was not disclosed to me at the time of purchase. The vehicle has been in Toyota shops regularly for inspections, maintenance and other repairs but the shop never mentioned anything about a "rusty" frame. Upon further research, I have found multiple Toyota Tacoma owners with similar issues with the frame. I believe Toyota knowingly manufactured and sold a defective product with serious potential safety issues. This vehicle either should be banned from the road for the safety of all drivers.

51 Steering problem of the 2013 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 05/19/2021

This issue has been ongoing. Taken into local Toyota dealer and was told they needed to replace entire rack and pinion at a cost of nearly $1500. Three days after picking up it is doing same thing. While steering around corner it will temporarily lock and suddenly it feels like it has no power steering. I am getting nothing but the run around from wooster Toyota. My wife very nearly was in an accident because of this. This truck only has 80000 miles. Jerry jones.

52 Steering problem of the 2013 Toyota Tacoma

55 Steering problem of the 2012 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 02/20/2021

Recently I have noticed the steering on my 2012 Tacoma is harder that normal and no longer returns to center after turning. Upon investigating online and visually inspecting my truck, the intermediate steering rod lower ball joint has failed! upon visual inspection it appears that the cups and bearing are destroyed . Toyota considers this a normal wear item!! the truck only has 34,400 miles actually this is a dangerous situation that will someday result in injury or death and should be taken seriously by Toyota. It appears that many Toyota owners are experiencing the same issue for many years.

56 Steering problem of the 2007 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 02/14/2021

A winter storm hit my area and I needed to engage my four wheel drive, the four wheel drive wouldn't engage. The indicator light on the dash would only flash. My truck only went a short distance before getting stuck on the road leaving me stranded.

57 Steering problem of the 2020 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/20/2021

While driving the vehicle the steering wheel pulled to the left and the steering wheel turned to the left considerably and permanently even when it was going straight on the road, the vehicle was taken into service, they aligned it and in just 500 miles it began to pull to the right and the steering wheel was turned to the left again even when the vehicle was going straight on the road. I have an appointment in service again soon.

59 Steering problem of the 2011 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 10/28/2020

I was driving and at any speed the steering would lock up while turning. The lower intermediate shaft has deteriorated to failure. I'm glad that I didn't have an accident but came close. When searching the internet to see if anyone else had the same problem I found that it was a common occurrence for anyone living in a area (not just in the USA) that is a snow area where salt is used. Toyota considers this a wear item. This should not be considered a wear item when failure can happen at any given second when driving and not allowing the vehicles driver to be in control.

60 Steering problem of the 1995 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 10/20/2020

Yes I wrote awhile back about my ball joint snapping in half going 55. It was the lower one but it wasn't where the ball joint was it was the metal part about an inch and a half from where the ball joint was. Due to rust. The man whom I finally found who bought it new said he never received any kind of notice about the rust on the vehicle.

61 Steering problem of the 2010 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 09/09/2020

My airbag light came on for no apparent reason. There was a recall for other Toyota Tacomas for an air bag spiral assembly however my model was not included. I took the truck to a Toyota dealer who informed me that the cable and connections were rusty and the air bag would not function in a crash unless the assembly was replaced. I paid out of pocket to have the cable replaced.

62 Steering problem of the 2018 Toyota Tacoma

As I was driving I went to make a turn and the steering becomes very difficult and dose not respond as it should, Toyota is aware of this problem and told me the steering shaft must be replaced, I almost ran into oncoming traffic because of the steering problem. This problem has occurred numerous times on city streets county routes and us highway route 22 in the state of new jersey.

64 Steering problem of the 2011 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 06/15/2020

The vehicle takes long to stop even after changing the brake pads , rotors, brake shoes, with new components. The rear makes a thud sound when accelerating or coming to a stop. The leaf springs also squeak and I noticed after they changed my frame the leaf springs were not change even though there is a recall on the leaf springs and it was rusting? the steering intermediate shaft started to make this loud thud sound when going over bumps around 5-10 mph. There is also a recall on this, but my local dealer says there isn't one? why doesn't the main branch talk to or update the system for all Toyota branches for recalls?.

65 Steering problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 05/17/2020

This vehicle is covered in the Toyota rusty frame lawsuit. As such, it has been inspected by 2 different dealers and deemed not to need a frame replacement both times. It was treated with crc. Its last inspection was in November of 2018. On Sunday, may 17th, 2020, the frame broke at the front cross-member causing the left front lower control arm to separate and steering the vehicle/controlling the vehicle became near impossible. Fortunately for me, this happened in a parking lot backing out of a parking space and turning left (in reverse at low speed) after a full 2 weeks of driving in the mountains of west virginia. I question all inspections of frames being performed within the Toyota dealer network and hope that nobody has this failure while they are driving at speed as the results will be catastrophic.

66 Steering problem of the 2020 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 03/11/2020

When in reverse and backing up, engine will surge when turning the steering wheel. In a tight space truck is difficult to control when this happens.

67 Steering problem of the 2008 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 02/19/2020

Steering is very difficult and very stiff. This is very dangerous and should be recalled and I see many other 08 Tacomas with the same problem. Why has there been no recall? also steering does not return to position you have to continuously turn it on your own. I see many complaints about this and there is apparently no way to fix it. I almost had an accident on my way home today because I couldn't steer the truck. Definitely needs to be addressed. All of these complaints point to the exact same problem. The steering is very difficult when moving and when stationary. It does it on city streets, highways, all the same. And at times steering will be normal and you never know what to expect. When I try to turn my truck with this problem it does not respond and the wheel does not return to position.

69 Steering problem of the 2001 Toyota Tacoma

I see that my frame is cracking. So I looked it up. And found multiple recalls on the tuck. I noticed that I have a very sloppy steering wheel. It said that was a recall too. I'm don't no if previous owner had anything recalled.

70 Steering problem of the 2008 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 12/20/2019

Steering is very difficult to control. When making a turn it does not straighten itself out it keeps going in the direction that you turned. It is very hard to straighten out and has become very dangerous. The problem happens in a stationary position, city streets and highway. There are times when the steering becomes easy again which only makes it more dangerous!.
