41 Suspension Noise problem of the 2009 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 09/29/2014

Toyota has notified me (NHTSA recall number: 14v604) on September 29, 2014 and again in September, 2015 concerning the rear suspension system of my Tacoma Toyota truck. I am very concerned that this safety recall 'fix' has gone on much too long. I have contacted my local dealer to see about this recall but they say they have not received the needed parts from Toyota. I also called Toyota hq and they too did not know when the remedy would be available. In the mean time my leaf springs occasionally make noises described by the dealer as a potential safety problem. My question: why is it taking Toyota so long to repair what appears to be a simple problem? am I endangering my family and myself by continuing to drive my 2009 Tacoma?.

I own a 2008 Tacoma double cab, 4x4. Strange noise was coming from the rear suspension after driving over frost heaves and pot holes. The driver side leaf spring had broke, and was rubbing hard on the brake line. I do not tow, off road, or carry heavy loads. Online search found this is a common problem with Tacomas. Happy (or lucky) the brakes didn't fail, and disappointed in the inferior quality.

March of 2014 my right rear leaf spring cracked. I contacted the Toyota dealer and Toyota corporate regarding this. They both denied any generic problem with the springs and Toyota refused any replacement. In August of 2014 the left leaf broke. In both cases I chose to have my local mechanic replace the broken leaf. I believe that I should be reimbursed for the replacement of the leaves and the spring assembly should be replaced per the announced recall (sept 29, 2014). I detected the break because of unusual suspension noise. No loads were carried during this period.

53 Suspension Noise problem of the 2007 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 11/27/2013

I bought my truck used. A total of five times I've taken it into the dealership because of suspension issues. Each time I was told there's nothing wrong. My drive shaft was replaced a year ago. I noticed the leaf spring sticking out and broken. I took my truck straight in. I was told the truck was undrivable. Toyota gave me a rental and replaced the leaf springs. I picked my truck up three days later thinking the problem was fixed then two days after that, my truck felt loose and was making a popping sound when I put it into reverse. It felt like the drive line was out again. I took it to be looked at again. I was told my driveline u bolt snapped and was caused by the broken leaf spring. Toyota wouldn't fix the damages because the shop they recommended didn't use Toyota parts. My truck had 250000 miles on it. The damages to my truck were add do extreme that I had no choice but to give it back to the bank. The vibrations caused tranny damage and the axles and differential the frame had damage because the leaf spring was shoved up into it. (I wasn't told untill after) no I've got nothing. . . . . Thanks Toyota. . . . . .

54 Suspension Noise problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 08/09/2013

In August 2013 while I was living in mexico taking care of my elderly father my 2005 Toyota Tacoma ay 67k miles started having noises in the suspension area . While I am not a mechanic I was referred to a man named adrian who specialized in suspensions and brakes . He drove my Tacoma and discovered the noise was caused by cracked leaf springs on the rear of my truck , I too was under the truck and saw the cracks and breakage . I contacted Toyota's customer care and was basically told " your truck in not under warranty so you will have to fix the truck your self ". I drove my other vehicle as the mechanic told me the vehicle was dangerous to drive as it was . I ordered some new leaf springs and had them shipped from summit racing , they were the few shops to offer International shipping . When the parts came in I had my mechanic install them for a very reasonable $120 usd . I saw that there were many owners of trucks like mine that has similar part failure so knew the problem was more than Toyota was telling and they were still not admitting there was a problem. Several months later I received a recall letter from Toyota and seeing than nearly 700,000 vehicle like mine were affected . I had already repaired the vehicle as I needed to be able to drive it and thought there might be in the future some reimbursement . I have now waited over two years for a reimbursement from Toyota and they keep asking for a written statement that the broken leaf springs "were not from some other external forces" and I keep getting the run around from Toyota's irritating customer service people . I still own the truck , still out the $722. 97 ,and still exasperated that Toyota would be so unreasonable with a customer . Can you please help me in theis regard to recommend some agency to help solve this ?.

55 Suspension Noise problem of the 2009 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

I was driving at approximately 35 mph on a suburban road. When I drove over any small bumps in the road, a loud metallic clinking sound could be heard issuing from the rear of the vehicle. An inspection revealed that the left leaf spring had broken and was smacking against the rear axle when the rear suspension was put in motion. It was mandatory that I replace the leaf springs on both sides of the vehicle in the interest of safety and drivability. The repair cost me $491 (I have the receipt); the incident was unnerving and caused considerable bother and inconvenience.

59 Suspension Noise problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 03/06/2013

On 3/14/2013 I noticed a noise that seemed to be coming from the rear suspension of my vehicle. I took the vehicle to my mechanic, who upon inspection noted that both rear leaf springs were broken. (see document) I then had the vehicle repaired on 3/22/2013. On September 29, 2014 the NHTSA announced the recall of my vehicle for the leaf springs(recall id 14v604) since that time I have been trying to get reimbursed by Toyota for the repairs that I had completed prior to the recall. I have contacted Toyota customer service several times and each time they have told me I needed to send more documentation. I've attached the required documents I have sent them, including the original invoice for diagnosis, the repair and a letter from my mechanic on letterhead supporting those documents. At one point in December 2015, they Toyota representative I was speaking with, actually called the mechanic to get verbal support of these documents. In December, I received a letter from Toyota stating that the remedy would be provided in early 2016. I've been told that once the remedy was provided I could then receive reimbursement for the repair. Yesterday, February 4, 2016, I was checking the status of the recall on my truck on Toyota. Com and it stated that "there were no open recalls on my vehicle at this time" I contacted Toyota again and they stated that I did not send the proper paperwork and that I had to prove my vehicle was part of the recall. I've attached the repair order and letter from my mechanic as well as a copy of the recall notification and a look-up from the Toyota site that shows my vehicle is covered under the recall. I am contacting you, simply because Toyota is trying to avoid reimbursing me for this recall and actually seems to have taken me off of the original recall status. I am very frustrated. The case # with Toyota is 1510072576.

63 Suspension Noise problem of the 2000 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 12/10/2010

Last summer, 2009, noticed that my brakes, which were only a year old, seemed to not be operating efficiently. Upon inspection of the vehicle I discovered gear oil had been coming out of the rear axle, spraying all over the passenger side brakes and tire. I had to replace the rear axel seal and ruined brake shoes. Bought the vehicle Toyota certified used in December of 2003. Recently in 2010 I noticed that my frame appeared as though it had a lot of dirt on it, so I tried to spray it off with a high powered washer, it turned out to b rust not dirt. I recently moved to California and I am still settling in, when I hear a loud banging sound coming from somewhere under my truck. I wondered if it had anything to do with the rust so I typed in rust and Toyota on google and discovered a customer warranty program issued by Toyota on 1995-2000 model Tacomas for rust perforation. I was never notified and my car is still registered in one of the applicable states, pennsylvania. I contacted customer service and took the car to be inspected, the dealer said my car passed rust perforation test but could not locate noise. I was shocked as the noise is unmistakable. After leaving the dealer I took the car to a friend who knows a little more about vehicles then me, we crawled under the truck and he was able to point out a broken leaf spring that appeared to be rusted and grinding heavily into my passenger side shock. The dealer let me drive off their lot with my truck like that and the leaf spring is attached to the frame which they claimed to have inspected! not only this but the tech also checked off suspension as green! this is extremely dangerous, what if the broken leaf spring had swung in the other direction and jabbed into my tire? Toyota is not offering to fix the problem under the warranty despite the fact this broken leaf spring issue is well documented across the nation.

64 Suspension Noise problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 08/01/2009

I purchased a brand new Tacoma 2005 trd 4x4 4 door from the dealer in 2004. In 2009 the truck started making popping, cracking, and squeaking noises from the suspension and from the engine. Now, the truck makes squeaking and cracking noises just getting in and out of the truck and even just opening and closing the door. I took the truck into several shops could not determine the cause. I started researching online, found numerous 2005 Tacomas's with the same problem. This is when I found out that several recalls were made on Tacoma, but we were never notified. On 12/9/2010, I called the dealer, I was told that Toyota acknowledge popping noise from the engine on 6/28/2005 and acknowledge rear suspension squeaking noises on 8/13/2009, but the dealer claimed that the truck has to be under 3 years old or 36,000 miles to cover under warranty. This is manufacture defects, Toyota should be responsible for correcting this problem, they did not notified the owner within warranty period.

Suspension is doing a loud friction sound when driving over a bump at a very slow speed, it sounds like metals are having friction one against the other, this is happening every time you drives over a bump, bigger bump louder sound. And there is no way to go fast over these bumps all of them are at school student dropping areas and security is first than everything, but is any part of the front suspension damaged because of this?.

My truck experiences severe transmision noise when I apply brakes, came to a stop and then proceed. A noticeable clunking noise took place as if the transmission was broken. Also my front tires wore excessively on the heels, and I was told by the dealer that the front end was misaligned. Ofcourse I paid for a front end alignment but it didnt help the vehicle from shaking at speeds of 55+mph. Also , the front suspension shimmies, shakes, and rattles over minor road imperfections. I feel like the steering wheel is telling me this vehicle is unsafe. I have never had an accident, and my vehicle is still under warranty. Can someone offer help or advice? thomas j finley. 70 Suspension Noise problem of the 1998 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 11/02/1998

There is an accelerated and abnormal amount of corrosion and rust showing up on undercarriage of the vehicle. Rear leaf springs have lost rubber bumper due to rust, and suspension/frame make noises due to stress on frame which is the result of rust/corrosion. I am the original owner to this vehicle, having purchased it new and having always had it in colorado a mostly dry climate not conducive to rust/corrosion. I have it at the same dealership I bought it from multiple times per year for service, and it is still under 150k orig miles. I have never been informed by the Toyota dealership reps. About concerns with rust/corrosion issues, nor has any company staff ever acknowledged any concerns over these issues, or has the company reached out to inform me of potential problems. In no way, shape or form has Toyota ever advised me of any recall, concerns or problems. I have lived at my current residence and had the same phone numbers for the last 15 years and this has been in the stevenson Toyota dealership records this whole time. This is extremely concerning due to the mountain driving conditions here in colorado, and speed at which this rust/corrosion is expanding and making the vehicle weak and unsafe to operate. Apparently more owners of this vehicle and model year are experiencing the very same issues and have not been notified by Toyota. This appears to be a prolific issue that needs immediate attention.
