36 Suspension problem of the 2023 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 02/27/2024

I received a recall notice saying that welding debris on the rear axle could cause bolts to loosen resulting in parts falling off the truck and crashing. I have called servco Toyota honolulu service department 3 separate times. Talked to a number of managers and representatives. The first time they said they cannot do the recall yet and are waiting for parts and procedures, would not give me a date and said I cannot schedule a service appointment. In the recall it is clearly laid out to inspect and retighten bolts, and replace any damaged parts. I asked why they cannot inspect my truck and retighten the bolts now, and they don’t have an answer. They said I would receive a call back so I waited from last week 2/27 and did not hear anything back. After calling again today I was told there is nothing they can do because they don’t have parts. However the recall clearly states that the truck needs to be inspected and the bolts need to be tightened. There are no additional parts necessary unless components have become damaged. Servco has shown hawaii customers countless times that they truly do not care about their customers as this is the only dealership on island and people do not have any other choice but to return for terrible service. This recall is a safety issue and I do not feel “wait till April” is an acceptable solution to this problem as my truck is driven daily.

38 Suspension problem of the 2007 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 02/05/2024

Over the years, Toyota has had to issue numerous recalls for their Toyota Tacomas and frame replacements/maintenance required by Toyota due to rust and corrosion. However, Toyota chose not to replace all frames, instead decided to "treat" the issue with underspray. My Toyota, like many others, has received the recalled Toyota undercoat spray to prevent rust and corrosion on a frame with known issues (once in 2015, another in 2019). I have just received a phonecall from my mechanic that my frame is now unsafe to drive and needs to be fixed or replaced. However, Toyota has claimed they have no guarantee on the vehicle and it isn't there problem because it is outside of the timeframe. However. . . This car did participate in their recall 2x. And the recall and work done did not solve the problem or the recalled part: the frame that his crippled by corrosion and rust due to a flaw in the manufacturing process. This is leading to a car that is due for a very significant, expensive improvement that was at no cause by owners actions, or a very unsafe high number of vehicles still on the road with failing frames due to Toyota's inability to fix their root cause issue on their initial recall in order to save a few bucks.

Failure Date: 11/21/2023

This truck is for sale in oregon with holes/rust on the frame and the frame mount. It is being sold with a clean title which clearly with the frame damage it is considered a branded title. The car lot that is selling the truck will no disclose the frame issue when asked about the structure damage on the truck. Buyers beware!!!.

48 Suspension problem of the 2002 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 08/03/2023

I went to get my 02 Tacoma tires balanced and was called and told that where the frame was cracked. Upon inspecting it myself the crack is where the manufacturer welded the frame together. I'm the 3rd owner of this vehicle and there original owner didn't get frame warranty recall done. Which led to it running out. Now Toyota corporate has a frame case number ( 230817000764 ) and was told that there's nothing that could be done until enough complaints about this case number reaches a certain number then they'll look into it.

49 Suspension problem of the 2009 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 08/01/2023

I have a 2009 Toyota Tacoma that has a significant amount of frame rust. I have recently learned that Toyota lost a class action lawsuit on this model of Tacoma because the frames would rot quickly. I was not aware of this recall, nor was I notified and because of that I missed the 12-year windows for Toyota to replace the frame. Toyota's owner app made no mention of this either. The only recall that I received was an issue with leaf springs which I had corrected when the parts came in. I'd like to know what I can do to have my truck's frame replaced, or something comparable.

50 Suspension problem of the 2001 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 07/24/2023

The contact owns a 2001 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 mph, the contact swerved to the left to avoid another vehicle and the steering had stiff. The contact stated that the front driver’s side wheel then collapsed inside the wheel well. The contact lost control of the vehicle and the vehicle skidded off the highway and onto the right shoulder. The contact stated that the seat belt warning light then illuminated. The contact had the vehicle towed to a local dealer however, the vehicle was not diagnosed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 05v225000 (suspension). The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

51 Suspension problem of the 2008 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 06/14/2023

I brought my 2008 Toyota Tacoma in and they did an undercoating recall. Since then I've had to replace a broken leaf spring and brake line, and a few weeks ago, brought it in to a Toyota dealership to have a wheel bearing/ axlereplaced that had rusted. On the paper documentation nothing was mentioned regarding the frame deterioration. Recently brought it in for an exhaust replacement and was shown how dangerous the frame was, and that it was too far gone to weld anything to, as "there's nothing to weld to" (and no shop would assume liability for such a fix)by the muffler shop technician. I called the Toyota dealership and was told to bring it somewhere to have a plate welded . Told him that wasn't an option.

52 Suspension problem of the 2004 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 05/30/2023

2011- check engine light was illuminated. Toyota dealership attempted repairs 11 times but could not find a cause. They replaced 7 different sensors, replaced gas cap, charcoal filter. . Still could not get light to go off. Refused to continue servicing same issue with no fault. Since 2011, I have had to run diagnostics on a regular basis to ensure there are no other mechanical issues. 2022- gas tank fell off of truck while driving. The straps snapped off due to rust and tank fell to the ground. This issue could have caused great bodily injury or death. 2023-lost brakes while driving. Total brake failure. Local mechanic stated it was a proportioning valve failure. The housing for it was rusted through and cannot be removed safely. After multiple days of research, a replacement could not be located. Even contacting Toyota, part is unavailable so vehicle cannot be fixed. Total brake failure could have led to great bodily injury or death. Ongoing-- vehicle frame is extremely rusted. Bumper has fallen off, spare tire fell off, brush guard rusted and fell off. The frame under cab near bed of truck is rusted through. Gas tank straps rusted through and tank fell off. You can literally push fingers/hand through the flaking metal. All previous recalls were completed including undercoating but the rust has gotten so bad the vehicle is not safe to drive.

Failure Date: 04/17/2023

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that after the vehicle was taken to a local dealer for unrelated repairs, the mechanic also diagnosed that the rear subframe needed to be replaced. The approximate failure mileage was 178,000. The VIN was not available.

55 Suspension problem of the 2009 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 04/07/2023

Odi #11516361 I bought this 2009 Toyota Tacoma with 20,990 miles on it on 11/22/2019. Then the pandemic hit the USA and the truck sat for many months. Then in April 2023 I brought the truck in for repairs and the mechanic told me the frame was rusted real bad and that the recall was past the deadline. I brought it to Toyota of watertown dealership on 4/07/2023 with 33,348 miles on it and they said there was nothing they could do because the truck was over the 12 years of manufacturing recall date. My truck was manufactured on 8/20/2009, so my recall ended on 8/20/2021. I owned the truck for 19 months during the recall and I never received a recall notice from Toyota. If I had known I would have had it inspected before the 12 years were up and Toyota would have been responsible for the rusted out frame. Toyota is negligent and liable for not informing me of the recall. Now I am stuck with a rusted out dangerous vehicle.

56 Suspension problem of the 2009 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 03/23/2023

Went for an inspection and entire frame is completely rotting out. Could have ben killed. Truck only has 65,000 miles on it because it was previously owned by my 80 year old grandfather. Toyota should have to fix everyone of these issues not just a certain time frame.

57 Suspension problem of the 2003 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 03/10/2023

58 Suspension problem of the 2008 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 03/09/2023

March 9th I went to take my 2008 Toyota Tacoma in for an inspection, failed due to 3 rustholes in frame and frame is warped, there is only 90838 miles on this vehicle cost of repair is very $$$$.

59 Suspension problem of the 2007 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 02/20/2023

Frame is completely rusted. The rear gas tank strap where it attaches to the frame corroded through and the strap dropped and was dragging on the ground. The gas tank also dropped and made it difficult to remove the gas cap. Upon further inspection the frame is completely rusted through in spots. In 2014 a rust protective coating was applied by a dealer. It did nothing to stop the rust it just covered it. The steel is delaminating underneath the coating. It was just a band-aid to get them out of warranty period. These frames should have been a full recall. The strap could of easily hit the ground and bounced up and punctured a brake line or the gas tank. With it sparking on the ground a fire could of happened. The Tacoma is in immaculate condition except for the frame. This is my 4th Toyota and the only one that has had a problem.

60 Suspension problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 02/15/2023

The frame is rusted so bad. The dealer wouldn’t replace due to the vehicle being registered in florida as it’s not one of the states affected. But my Toyota came from a pennsylvania dealer first then shipped to florida after years of being in pennsylvania and not having an issue up there. Now I’m stuck with a truck I can’t sell or fix. It’s not right. Where is the quality control on this.

61 Suspension problem of the 2011 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/04/2023

My vehicle failed the state of maine safety inspection due to a broken leaf spring. I had the vehicle further inspected at a Toyota dealership and they reported the same issue. They gave me an estimate to replace the rear springs for a total cost to me of $2321. 00. This an expense that I do not believe should have to bare, as this vehicle is only used for personal use. The heaviest load this vehicle has carried is a few bags of fertilizer.

62 Suspension problem of the 2000 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 12/26/2022

The frame of the truck in the back above the rear tire has rusted out and the frame has broke.

63 Suspension problem of the 2010 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 12/09/2022

My vehicle, which has been inspected at my local Toyota dealership, has significant rust corrosion, with perforation through the frame in several areas. I was told by the service manager that Toyota had sent out letters to owners (not a recall) to bring their vehicles in for inspection for this problem and that they would repair or replace the frame. I had not received any correspondence about this issue and have been told that this program expired in September of 2021,which now leaves me with the financial liability of replacing or repairing, which I have been told would cost between 14-20 thousand. I have contacted "the Toyota brand engagement center" case#221121001445, and they confirm they cannot and will not do anything for me. Please let me know what possible recourse I have in resolving this issue. Thank you!! bruce beeman 122 ridgewood acres thomaston connecticut 06787 (860) 283-8916.

64 Suspension problem of the 2018 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 12/07/2022

When I go to accelerate at low speed my vehicle shudders shakes and vibrates, no engine lights or codes have popped up, the issue is somewhere from transmission to the rear end. Im guessing transmission or torque converter. With my vehicle only having 136,000 miles and is well taken care of this is ridiculous, I have checked drive line and tires and everything seems to be working as it should so it has to be something internal.

65 Suspension problem of the 2009 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 12/06/2022

Frame and leaf spring rusting badly. If the frame or leaf spring brakes while driving will cause accident and possible fire from hitting by fuel tank putting my life and the lives of others in truck as well as persons near truck. I had truck in for tire rotation in 8/2022 problem was reported. Frame starting to rust badly will not be able to lift vehicle from the frame soon. No warning has been reported. Vehicle has been recalled. No recall was sent to me about problem now the company will not fix.

66 Suspension problem of the 2023 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 11/23/2022

Experience steering wheel vibrations between speeds of 60 mph and 80 mph - have taken vehicle to dealership and they have confirmed problem but said it was a characteristic condition of the suspension on vehicle. It is highly distracting when operating a motor vehicle at freeway speeds and with out warning the steering wheel starts shaking back and forth. Dealership has rebalanced and rotated tires 5 times and performed vehicle alignment - recently they changed the tire and loading information decal which changed the air pressure from 36psi down to 29 psi (did not tell me about that) vehicle rides better but steering wheel vibration still happens unannounced at speeds between 60 mph & 80 mph.

67 Suspension problem of the 1999 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 10/20/2022

The contact owns a 1999 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, an unknown popping sound was coming from the rear-end of the vehicle. Upon inspection, the contact discovered severe corrosion and a crack that had formed on the rear passenger’s side fender. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 147,813.

69 Suspension problem of the 2010 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 10/14/2022

My mechanic found excessive premature rusting to my truck's under carriage/frame. He suggested that I contact Toyota to see what could be done about this condition. Having never received a notice of recall I searched for recall information and called Toyota's "brand engage3ment advocate". I found out that the recall for the frame expired 6 months ago. This is intolerable since the truck I own now was a replacement for a truck that had premature rusting of the frame. I thought surely that Toyota would have addressed this issue in my 2010 Tacoma and I was unaware that it would be a problem. Toyota brand engagement center filed a case number for me (not really helpful to me) which is 221017000168.

70 Suspension problem of the 2008 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 09/23/2022

My stepdaughter purchased a 2008 Toyota Tacoma a few months ago. During the time of having the vehicle serviced her mechanic pointed out all the rust throughout the frame of the vehicle. I have contacted Toyota corporate; they refuse for me to open a ticket and to get this safety issue resolved. Not only is the rust on the frame, but it's also evolving the suspension. There is also evidence that this vehicle is from vermont which would have caused more of a rust issue besides the manufacture forgetting to coat the frame.
