1 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2011 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

2011 Toyota Tacoma. Consumer writes in regards to problems with the transmission and security system in vehicle. . The consumer stated one day as she was leaving work, the vehicle would not start. It seemed as though the vehicle didn't recognize the key and she was unsuccessful at jump starting it. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the problem was determined to be with the security system, which had been installed and had not been removed completely. She also stated the automatic transmission was not shifting correctly, particularly when shifting up hills, it required her to forceful apply the accelerator pedal to get the vehicle to go appropriately. Again, she took the vehicle to the dealer, but the computer stated there was nothing wrong. The problem seemed to be getting worse, when in early December the consumer was in route over a double lane road over a mountain, when the truck suddenly felt as though it had slipped out of gear, there was no power to the drive train and there was a grinding sensation from the gas pedal. The consumer was able to pull over to the side of the road, put the vehicle in park, then drive and proceeded again. A similar event occurred as she made her way back over the mountain at the end of the day. However, the vehicle lost power again and it did not respond to the accelerator pedal, but it also made a very fast clicking sound. The consumer went back to the dealer, only to be told there was nothing wrong. The mechanic decided to test drive the vehicle and noted the vehicle seemed to be sluggish in the automatic drive position, but seemed to function more responsively in the 4th position.

2 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2010 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 12/02/2010

2010 Tacoma crew cab with 18,000 miles, automatic transmission. When the vehicle is cold or warm it seems to slip out of gear going around corners or accelerating from a stop in a straight line. This does not occur everytime but at unexpected times. Also after I have slowed down to round a corner or cross an intersection the truck feels as if it shifts to neutral gear and when the gas pedal is depressed no forward movement occurs. It acts like it has no throttle response. After anywhere from 2 to 6 seconds it starts moving forward again and starts moving as if nothing ever happened. This problem does not occur at every corner, stop or light but does happen in the middle of intersections and changing lanes. So far I have had 5 near collisions in less than one week. Vehicle was taken to Toyota dealership to take care of the issue and the dealership said they found no issues with their first test drive, have never seen this problem and are trying to find the problem.

3 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2010 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/15/2010

My Tacoma 2010 seems to slip out of gear going around corners -- after I've slowed down to round the corner the truck revs high when the gas pedal is depressed again. After a few seconds it lurches forward when it finally gets into gear. This problem occurs at almost all corners, but not from a stopped position. I do no think the corner causes the problem, it's just that the truck is downshifting, then up-shifting again. I noticed this behavior within the first week I had the truck, and it has been getting worse ever since. I took it into a Toyota dealership who said they applied a software patch and that it is now "fixed. " the dealership says the truck's computer does not show any problem "codes" that would indicate a problem. I will pick up the truck tomorrow, so I don't know at this time if it indeed has been fixed.

4 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 12/08/2005

I purchased a 2005 Toyota Tacoma, 6 speed in June of 2005. Just before the vehicle attained 14,000 miles it started slipping out of 4th gear. I placed a call to the dealer, and the service department stated, "it will need a new transmission" during the 5 minute conversation on the phone. After the vehicle was brought to the service department on week later, within the first 2 hours of them receiving the truck a new transmission was ordered. This tells me that they are experiencing this problem regularly. If a number of 6 speed Tacomas' have been returned with the same problem, shouldn't the consumer be notified. After all my car slips out of gear while driving, that seems to be a bit of a safety issue to me. The vehicle has slipped out of gear at least 25 times prior to being fixed.
