3 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2007 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 03/19/2008

When stopping for a traffic light/stop sign from 40-50mph, the truck stops normally. After about 1. 5 seconds when at a complete stop, the truck gives a kick. It is severe enough that it feels as if you had been rear ended. The whole truck shutters. I took it in to the dealership who gives the, "I can't duplicate it" spiels. My tranny fluid was low due to a leaking rear seal so they blamed it on that. They changed the aluminum front driveshaft as they stated it caused the leak. Problem never went away. Does not happen at any other time. Suspect the first gear clutch packs are releasing and re-engaging. Could be mechanical but it is also a possible problem with the transmission ecu. Similar issue with the 2007-up camry which was determined to be the torque converter.

4 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2004 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 09/04/2004

Purchased a Toyota Tundra brand new with 16 miles in August 2004. Several weeks later I noticed a high-pitched scraping noise occurring from the engine. After two trips to the dealership and no resolution they contacted Toyota in florida and sent a southeast regional representative to inspect. The noise was occurring when the truck shifted into overdrive while doing appx. 30 mph and 1100 rpms. Letting off the gas caused the noise to cease. Giving gas also caused the noise to cease. The noise only occurred when the speed was maintained at 30 mph. The Toyota representative stated the he thought the problem was occurring with the torque converter and that it was something that I was going to have to live with. He also stated that this was the only reported case that he was aware of. I told him I was not going to pay $25,000 for a vehicle that was making a strange noise and that he could either replace the truck or eliminate the noise. He stated he was not going to replace the truck but that he would "consider" replacing the transmission.

5 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2002 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 05/31/2002

2002 Toyota Tundra 4x2 sr5 with under 18,000 miles, at 45 degree angle while in drive and no load, vehicle will roll backwards and will continue to roll until the brakes are applied. While rolling a loud constant clicking noise eminates from the rear end as if gears were slipping. Vehicle seldomly driven and almost never pulls any loads, never abused or wrecked and maintained regularly. This has occurred since the vehicle was purchased in may of 2002. Lakeside Toyota informed me today 9-20-04, this was normal for the truck and that they simulated it with another truck.
