This report addresses the critical structural integrity concerns related to excessive corrosion, and frame material loss affecting the main ladder frame chassis. The degradation of the frame members poses a significant and immediate safety risk, including potential catastrophic structural failure, detachment of critical components, and failure of safety systems (e. G. , braking and fuel lines) mounted to the frame. Location: mid-frame section (beneath the cab) and rear sections (near the leaf spring mounts and rear axle).

Excessive frame rust that is quickly progressing despite efforts to remedy. There was a recall due to this issue but I was told a few years ago by Toyota that my VIN was not covered. All the 2000 Tundra's have this issue with the frame rust but I was told I am not in the north east and would not be covered.
Frame rust is so extreme that rear suspension mounts are completely disconnected from frame.

The hood design of the 3rd generation Toyota Tundra causes severe solar glare back into the cab and this is a known issue. While I could site many instances of it casing a problem, the most recent scenario caused me to nearly run a stop sign and hit a pedestrian. The glare is so blinding it’s impossible to drive without holding your hand up to block it. Countless Tundra owners have complained about this but because it hasn’t been cited as a safety issue, Toyota isn’t responsible. This is requiring owners to put black decals on their hoods or add tint strips to the bottom of the windshield to block it. I have sensitive eyes, so my windshield and windows are already tinted and it doesn’t touch this. Make Toyota fix this! I have not had my specific situation investigated simply because it was already such a known problem. I’m voicing my concerns so all Tundra owners can drive safely. They charge a mortgage for these things and I’m scared to drive it at certain times of the day. Cameras can’t capture it the same but the pictures show it fairly well. My hand got hot holding it this way.
The frame on my 2006 Toyota Tundra sr5 has severe corrosion and multiple areas of rust perforation despite being treated under Toyota’s limited service campaign d0d in 2015. During that campaign, the dealer removed the bed, documented active rust on the frame, cleaned it, and applied corrosion-resistant compound (crc) to key areas as the preventative remedy. As documented in multiple repairs the corrosion was already advancing at the time the crc was applied, the steering shaft boot was replaced the same day as the compound was put on at 93,822 miles, several other critical safety failure shortly after; the brake pivots seized at 94900, rotors rust pitted at 99537, bumper had perforations at 109407, 1 brake line from master cylinder and 1 brake line from abs actuator leaking near the junction block on l/s of the frame at 113422, 52 days later the shift cable was broken at 114904. The current perforation and delamination indicate that the d0d remedy failed to prevent structural degradation as intended. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The vehicle’s structural integrity is severely compromised, creating a risk of frame failure while driving. This puts my safety and the safety of others at risk due to potential loss of control or component separation. The problem has not yet been inspected by the dealer in its current condition but has been escalated to Toyota corporate. I have attached the communications with them. The truck has been fully serviced through Toyota since new, with the last documented service in January 2021. There were no warning lamps or dashboard messages prior to the failure. Visible rust first appeared prior to the d0d treatment and has now progressed to full perforation. The vehicle is currently unsafe to drive.

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal, the steering wheel vibrated abnormally, and the steering wheel was difficult to hold steady. The contact stated that extra effort was needed to secure the steering wheel while depressing the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The contact stated that the tpms was providing erroneous operating information and alerts. The contact inspected the vehicle and became aware that the cross member near the steering rack had a fractured in the frame. The vehicle was taken to a Toyota collision center, where a mechanic determined that the entire sub frame needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to the Toyota collision center for assistance. The manufacturer opened a case for the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 148,857.
Driving 35 milers per hour down side road with no cars in front or behind us, and no cars passing us. The sunpanel burst and shattered into thousands of pieces . There was glass stuck into metal bar in rear, that’s how strong the explosion was. Pictures provided. I can confirm there was no chip in sunpanel prior to this happening. This is a huge safety issue. If the cloth panel was pulled back exposing the glass into the vehicle we would have glass stuck or embedded in our heads and we could have caused a major accident. The loud noise sounded like a gun shot and the driver swerved the car and slammed on the breaks because the sound was so loud.

1)frame is rusting out. Not repairable. 2) fuel tank strap rusted through and broken.
Whenever it rains in dfw, vehicle emits a foul/musty odor from the hvac system. Only happens when it rains. Hvac setting has always been the same, "lo" temp, ac mode on, recirculation mode on, fan speed varies. Taken vehicle to two different dealerships and techs unable to duplicate. It doesnt rain much here in TX so it is hard to get it taken care of while still within warranty. My family and I use this vehicle primarily and I am concerned for my kids' lung health as they are [xxx], [xxx], and [xxx] years old as of writing. Running out of warranty time and hate to not get this fixed and be [xxx]. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Body top celing is leaking. . Toyota try to cost me over one thousand I cant afford. . I see lot of common recall from old Tundra have same problem. I think Toyota is responbile to fix. . .
Frame rusted out causing gas tank to fall off truck while driving. Was sparking while trying to pull of to a safe spot on highway, tank was hanging on by the fuel line. Leaf spring also broke on truck do to rust. Cars were avoiding my truck on highway as sparks were coming from the gas tank shield scrapping the highway. Frame should have been replaced along with gas lines, and leaf springs during the recall in 2012 range. Toyota of york decided to just undercoat spray frame, prior to me purchasing truck from them. They never notified me (the consumer) of the recall that was current on truck.

Rear passenger door trim, and accelerator pedal lag.
The 2003 Toyota Tundra is known for severe frame rot due to improper rust protection, which led to a major safety recall. The excessive corrosion can cause rust holes to form in the frame, compromising the vehicle’s structural integrity. This can lead to frame cracking or even complete failure, making the truck extremely dangerous to drive. A weakened frame affects the vehicle’s ability to absorb impact in a crash, reduces stability, and can lead to suspension or steering failure. In extreme cases, parts like the fuel tank or spare tire can detach, increasing the risk of a serious accident.
Rusting frame on the vehicle leading to potential cracks and creating safety concerns. Truck has low miles and been well maintained. This is my second Toyota truck with a rusted frame. No help or support from Toyota on my concerns with the 2010 Tundra.

Toyota placed a tinted coating over its chrome on the platinum trim. The coating is pealing off. My vehicle is garaged and has 6,200 gentle miles on it. The coating appears to be bubbling, so there is an issue with it. When at the dealership getting the warranty claim addressed, I saw their own 'parts truck' of same year and trim as mine also was pealing and I pointed it out to them. Doing further research, I've seen multiple online forum images of others experiencing the issue. It appears Toyota's solution is to replace the grill/bumper chrome with the same material, so I fear it will only happen again. The fix is pending.
The frame of the truck is extremely rusted. I am unsure if it can be fixed. It is available for inspection. This 2016 Tundra has 71,000 miles and is used as a third car. It has been serviced at the same dealership (northshore Toyota, covington, la) and we were never informed of the damage by the dealership. My safety is at risk because the extensive rust could cause the frame to fail. Previous Tundra models have been recalled because of the same issues. No warnings were issued even after the dealership serviced the truck on a lift numerous times (approximately 9 years). The only previous warning by the dealership was on 1/29/2025 when the dealership informed us of a rusty trailer hitch. The truck was brought to 4 body shops in the local area after the owner went to work on the trailer hitch and saw the damage. All 4 shops confirmed that the rust was extensive. 3 shops would not fix the damage because it would be an expensive/extensive fix. We are waiting on what shop #4 says.

My 2006 Tundra has major rust on the frame to the point it isn't safe to drive anymore. I have reached out to Toyota and my local dealer and have received the same answer from both saying its not something that Toyota will cover, despite the fact that there was a national safety recall that started in 2016 for rust related issues.

The sunroof shattered while driving down the freeway. No vehicles near or overpasses near. The shade was closed so the glass fell on it not on my head or passengers that could have been present. Sounded like a loud pop. Then I heard wind noise. The glass is blown upward, not downward. I am 40 year auto technician and own my own shop. Its my personal truck I bought new. Has never had any issues at all. This is a defect of some sort. My thought is, since I never use it. The seals aroung the glass bound in the roof opening, thus binding it where it finally flexed and shattered.
Know issue with Toyota Tundra frame, and refuse to give option to repair.
Extensive rust and rot of entire frame, and undercarriage. The truck bed unsafe to walk on has several soft spots almost broken through, gas tank holder rusted out- worry about gas tank dropping from frame, tow hitch and rear bumper rot etc. Side step fell off. Toyota has a service campaign and warranty enhancement program for Tundra but not this year- built 9/2010 san antonio but listed as 2011 model on VIN. I am original registered owner and have never been contacted about this factory failure use of inferior untreated frame materials but learned about it from internet research. Would like my vehicle covered under current service campaign.
Years back there was a recall in regard to the frame. I brought the truck into colonial Toyota in milford CT for the recall. I was advised that the frame was fine and did not need to be replaced. Recently when I brought the truck in for an oil change the owner advised me that the gas straps attached to the frame had rusted out. He demanded that I remove the vehicle from his facility ASAP due to the excessive danger this created and not to drive the truck. He advised me to get rid of it. I reached out to a mechanic who advised that it could be welded back; however it would cost thousands of dollars to have that done. I contacted Toyota corporate to explain the situation and they advised me that there was nothing they could do to assist me with this issue. This truck had been well maintained and it ran perfectly with 280,000 miles. My goal was to run it to 400,000 miles as Toyota trucks tend to have a high mileage longevity when serviced as required. New a/c was replaced within the last three years; brakes/rotors/belts were replaced within the last 18 months. This truck was well maintained. Since this was my work truck I needed a vehicle ASAP and ended up purchasing a new 2024 Toyota Tundra which was an expense that I hadn't been expecting at all. I opted for the extended warranty option that was an extra $3,000. 00 to protect me and the new truck going forward. Toyota should be responsible for some of these additional expenses as it was Toyota who advised me during the recall that the frame was fine and did not need to be replaced. Obviously that was not correct and they should be held responsible for the negative and very expensive outcome that this caused.

Peeling paint. White paint is separating from primer on hood, and adjacent to windshield on a pillars and the leading edge if the roof.
We are the first owner of this 2005 Toyota Tundra limited with only 91k miles. The frame is rusted so badly that we are afraid to drive down the road. This rusted problem could cause potential harm or death to us and others on the road.
Frame of the vehicle is starting to rust, clear coat paint is wearing off and is starting to chip with small spots of rust on the roof and hood, lower ball joint failure due to corrosion and degraded components. Unknown why the lower ball joint failed. Vehicle is not in the rust belt but definitely experiences corrosion and suspension issues.
Plastic molding on rear driver’s door came loose, and I had to push it back on. Door panels(driver’s door and rear passenger) make rattling noises while driving. Oil leak from under vehicle near drain pan.
