I had recently purchased a 2004 Tundra with knowing about the recall for frame rust. I believed Toyota had completed the recall and fixed the problem. Not long after owning the vehicle, I noticed a spot of rust bubbling through the anti corrosion coating. After further inspection, the frame is completely corroded through and cracked. This vehicle was meant to use for travel with my family in it and now it's not safe to drive at all.

When cranking the vehicle all of a sudden as of 5 days ago the check engine light appears along with �track off� indicator. This throws the truck in �limp� mode decreasing the power of the vehicle by 50%. This happened the first morning and I was entering a on ramp to get on the high from my neighbor and almost got plowed over due to not being able to properly accelerate to highway speeds while entering the ramp. I had a technician check the issue and was told it has to due with the �secondary air injection valve� failing. After about four days of research I found this is a common problem it not just my vehicle but multiple years and motor sizes. Toyota apparently covered certain year models/vine but when calling regarding mine they said my vehicle wasn't covered evening though there are thousand of consumers having the exact same issue. This issue is also an expensive repairs cost upwards to $3,500-$400 to fix. Toyota is aware of the problem and apparently doesn't care that it also cause safety issues with the vehicle not having proper power to operate. This is a manufacturing defect plan and simple.

My 2006 Tundra double cab 4. 7l limited 4wd has a significantly large cut on the frame due to rust. The cut starts on the frame from the bracket holding the sway bar link back to the crossmember frame. This rust is spreading and is extremely dangerous for me and my family. This vehicle is my daily commute vehicle and I live in a northern region of the us where salt is used on roads during the winter. The vehicle history has always been from the northern region. Please contact me regarding a frame recall or replacement as soon as possible as this is a very concerning safety issue for myself and my family.

Extreme rust damage to the frame. Toyota will not discuss the concern, and I am growing concerned about the safety of the vehicle and risk to me and my passengers. Everything else on the vehicle operates a expected for a 15 year old vehicle. I want to keep this truck and work with Toyota to replace the defective frame, but I would also consider a replacement vehicle with fair value trade in. However, Toyota will not entertain a conversation regarding my concerns. I received a call today from the local dealership saying that the rear of the frame cracked as they lifted it for service. I have complained about this to Toyota since approximately 2012.

Earlier in the year of 2017, a class action lawsuit against Toyota (brian warner et al. V. Toyota motor sales) was settled regarding frame rust and corrosion. This lawsuit led to the recall of all 2005-2010 tacomas, 2007-2008 Tundras, and 2005-2008 sequoias. Being that the sequoias are based off of the Tundra it is interesting that the respective years of Tundras were not included with the sequoias. The argument for the case was that there was not any rust protectant put onto these frames and therefore they were rotting prematurely and causing serious danger to the people who drive them. I have even read stories of trucks snapping in half under their own weight when being put onto a lift. I am the owner of a 2006 Tundra and am experiencing this exact same problem but am not covered under this recall. One of the rack and pinion mounts that are welded onto the frontmost crossmember of the frame is 2/3 rotted away and is almost to the point where it will break off leading to an unsafe vehicle and potentially deadly accident. This is the reason Toyota lost this lawsuit and why other vehicles with this same problem have been recalled. Toyota also recognized this issue in 2015 with a limited service campaign which expired and offered no warranty enhancement for it. I recently visited a Toyota dealership who went under the vehicles and claimed that the rot is so bad underneath my truck that they would replace the frame entirely if it had been recalled. They also gave me documentation of this. Essentially my frame is beyond repair and potentially deadly because of the negligence of the Toyota motor company. I then contacted the Toyota corporate number and was given a case number but they refuse to do anything about it. If the 2006 sequoia was included which is based off of the Tundra, and has the exact same frame, why wasn't the Tundra included with this recall?.
Frame recall - the frame originally received the crc coating from kerry Toyota during the frame recall (unknown recall number and time of application). The coating has failed and as a result the steering rack mounts have separated from the frame due to rust. The bolt and mounting point are still together, but broken from the crossmember. I was driving down the road when there was a sudden change in how the steering was operating. It was causing me to wonder around in my line. I felt I had very little control on the steering. Once I pulled over and looked under the truck, it was apparent as to what happened. There is also significant rust damage to the left and right front frame assembly where the main cross member is attached to the frame. This is also where main suspension components mount to the frame. I believe the crc coating has done nothing to prevent the rust from destroying the frame as it was destroyed from the inside out. There are other sub cross members suffering the same rust damage along the frame of the truck. There are two mounts where there is complete separation between the frame and crossmember.

My 2003 Tundra frame in 2009 was determined to be in ok condition ,that is a result of low miles , the frame is now 6 years old with visible rust as I mentioned to my falmouth Toyota service center ,with that I got a rust preventative compound . This compound was to stop the rust , I wouldn't be doing this if that was the case , now January 2017 with just 98000 miles and cosmetically a clean truck with my expectations only 1/3 used , the next 200,000 miles I expected to put on this truck will not happen as falmouth Toyota shows me the frame work around the gas tank brackets is ready to fail along with other visible holes and cracks in other portions of the frame , why am I not protected ? it's a known failure and all fames should have been replaced not a selected few , please I want results . I was sold on Toyota when they advertised a truck or car stopping on a bridge and photographed the odometer at 500,000 , my guess is that is a thing of the past as they made there billions of.
Vehicle frame has rusted through in places and has deteriorated by flaking in other locations on the frame. Also power steering rack has rusted through. The truck has less than 61000 miles on the odometer. I filed a complaint with Toyota in late October, 2016. After speaking with a Toyota representative, they said that they would not do anything to remedy the problem as their recall on the frame was good only until 12-31-2012.
I recently found out about a problem with the frames of certain Toyota Tundras from a coworker. I found that my truck fell into the category, however I was never notified of any recalls or safety actions. I brought my truck into the dealership and was told that the spare tire carrier will be replaced as well as the fuel tank straps and a coating can be applied to the rear part of the frame. I asked how the rest of the frame was and was told there was major rot in the front section. I called Toyota and was told there was nothing they would do about it as the recall or safety action expired on 31 March 2016. I expressed to them that I was never notified of anything about the frames and was basically told there was nothing they would do. I am now stuck with a truck with a rotted out frame that Toyota is not willing to stand by, even though I only missed the deadline by a month and a half, due to them.
Upon inspection of truck for oil leak, found that right side frame rail was severly rusted/rotted near where the sway bar mount is attached to the frame. Bracket for sway bar has separated from frame, and multiple holes (from corrosion) exist on the bottom of the frame rails. I took truck to dealer who informed me that the "limited service campaign" expired July 31, 2015, and that my truck was covered, but the previous owner never took it in for inspection. Called Toyota corporate customer service and was escalated to specialized case manager. I gave them the history of the truck, that I bought it in October 2015, and that it was dealer servcied in 2013 and 2014 - but the dealer never checked the frame. Toyota has denied the claim saying they will take no further action - even though this is a known issue, and now a safety concern.
Frame rot and rust. The gas tank fell out from under the truck while driving down the road (city street), the brackets holding the tank completely rusted in two. This happen after the frame protect spray was applied to the truck by the dealer 2 years ago. The frame is a mess, I'm worried about driving this truck because of it but I also can't trade it in because no one wants it. I'm happy to send pictures if needed.
My 2006 Toyota Tundra double cab has significant rust, which has resulted in a crack along the frame rail approximately 6 inches long near the passenger side front wheel. The frame has numerous other holes opening up and significant flakes of steel falling of the frame in this same area. I have meticulously cared for this vehicle and have been sure to keep the car and frame clean, particularly during the harsh winter months. Nonetheless the frame has rusted to the point where the sway bar mount on the passenger side has almost rusted through. While Toyota initiated a "limited service campaign" this is not a full recall. I learned of this significant damage 26 days after the conclusion of the campaign on July 31, 2015. As this is not a recall, customers such as myself have no recourse. I contacted Toyota and was rudely informed that there are no exceptions and that my vehicle cannot be covered under the campaign as it has expired. This leaves me with significant damage as a result of Toyota's engineering error. Not only does this significantly reduce the value of my vehicle, but clearly poses a safety hazard as critical components of the front suspension are weakened. Furthermore, an accident could result in serious damage and injury as a result of the weakened structure. The fact that this has not been not been classified as a recall is appalling. Toyota is unwilling to stand behind their vehicles and has left me to fend for myself for their error. I strongly urge the NHTSA to reconsider their closed case on this frame issue and demand a recall. The measures Toyota has taken through this campaign are not sufficient. There are countless other owners whose frames only received the crc coating and have continued to rust. This was clearly a stopgap measure. Toyota should be held accountable for the safety hazard and economic impact of their design flaw.
The entire frame and under side of the truck to include brackets, cables, fittings, and exhaust are so rusted and flaking off that I'm concerned that the truck may break apart driving down the road. I bought the truck used from lowe Toyota in warner robins, GA and had no idea that the truck was a rusted out disaster waiting for a place to happen !!.
My Tundra was part of the frame rust recall and passed their rust penetration test and was rustproofed by the dealer, Toyota of grand rapids, June 8, 2015. The rustproofing was done very poorly and rust was still forming on the frame. I just had the Tundra inspected by my mechanic for recommended repairs to keep it on the road and he found two large rust holes, pictures attached, on the frame, one on driver side and one on passenger side behind the front wheels. He said that in a hard braking situation the frame could crack causing loss of control and steering. I've tried contacting Toyota and they said the dealer has to be contacted and this has been done twice with no results. The recall is now closed and I should have had a new frame installed the first time. The Tundra has 129,000 miles on it and we use it for 5th wheel towing, not anymore. I need your help in resolving this problem. You have 128 complaints for structural issues on this vehicle, all with mostly the same issue rust through on the frame.
The spare tire was hanging under the truck. Use the tools to crank it back up and hold it securely. The first turn and the cable snapped and tire fell. The cable was rusted and snapped and the carrier holding the tire itself fell.
Vehicle has 121,000 miles on it. The frame has now cracked due to rust perforation and makes the vehicle unsafe to operate. Toyota is aware of the rust issues on their Tundra models years 2000-2003 and has commenced at least 3 different campaigns to address this issue. The truck was brought in for all 3 recalls the last one in 2012. Toyota's solution was to spray them with rust inhibitor and send the customer on their way. This is nothing more than putting a band aid on a hemorrhaging wound. Most of the frames had already experienced frame corrosion. When I spoke to Toyota's customer service center on 4/15/15 they issued me a case number and said I would receive a call back. Toyota called back today 4/16/15 and said they would do nothing for me as the rust corrosion campaign ended in December 2013. I think the government needs to step in and force Toyota to fix or replace these trucks. I am sure many owners have no idea they are driving around with perforated frames that are unsafe. My damaged frame was discovered during a routine oil change.
The frame by the driver side front wheel is almost broken in half. . . It has a 2 foot long section missing. . . Other steering component affected stablizer bar almost rusted in half. . Bracket and bushing almost nonexistent. . . This is my daily driver for me,my wife and my 10 year old daughter. . . I fear for their safety should it completely let loose. . . I drive very slow. . . My power steering started making a noise and the steering became difficult. Upon checking my power steering fluid and adding some there was improvement, but I noticed I was leaking power steering fluid. I took the truck to a local mechanic and found out that the rust on the underneath of the truck was so significant and that a hole had actually rusted through causing the leakage of power steering fluid. I had to have the entire rack and pinion replaced. The mechanic notified me and actually showed me all of the rust concerns. There is significant rust on the frame and other hardware parts on the underneath of the truck. Toyota notified me of 2011 that there were some concerns and request I go to the dealership to have a compound placed on the frame to prevent further rusting. I did complete this as requested, however the mechanic showed me that the compound looked like it was sporadically placed and that it basically did no good. The rust issue is significant. I contacted Toyota once I knew the issue was rust related and after talking with a couple of people I spoke with someone at headquarters. He basically told me that he could not do anything for me unless Toyota issued another frame recall. He said the company was considering it, but no issue has came out. I then stated that it sounds like Toyota knows that there is an issue, but is not sure if they want to own up to it and address it. This was not denied by the representative I was speaking with. In addition to the frame rust, there are other hardware rust issue that are of safety concern. Any line that carries fluid underneath the truck is in danger of rusting through. Also, there is a steering mechanism with significant rust and if for some reason the bolts completely rust off then I lose control of all steering. Thank you for listening to my concerns.
Dealer just informed me that my rotted frame needs to be replaced. Dealer insisting that truck is “safe” and is safe to drive for the next 90 days until the frame parts arrive. Dealer is refusing to provide me with a safe loaner for these 90 days. Dealer is refusing to provide criteria used to determine the safety of my frame and truck. Dealer admitted via email the bed of the truck as well as the spare tire carrier was “not removed during inspection”. Dealer stated (via email) that “once the >10mm hole was discovered, there was no need to continue the inspection because the frame would have to be replaced. ” dealer is refusing to tell me what criteria was used to determine how safe the vehicle was to drive. Dealer refusing to provide the frame inspection report after many requests. Says “it doesn't exist”. Dealer refused to give frame safety inspection criteria used to determine a frames safety. Contacted customer service and asked for same criteria. 1st response was “its proprietary information that I cannot give you”. After pushing the issue farther, and stating that all I wanted was a safe loaner car to drive while my truck is waiting on a frame, they told me to contact dealer for the criteria I am requesting because they have been given that information from Toyota. Contacted dealer again, after multiple emails asking the same thing, eventually his response was “there is no criteria”. I am denied the use of a safe loaner because the dealer is saying that my truck is safe to drive (based on non existent criteria as well as an incomplete frame inspection). According to the flowchart, if my frame needs to be replaced, a loaner will be provided for up to 60 days (or even longer), if parts availability is causing a delay. Nowhere does it state that I am only entitled to a loaner if at my dealers discretion deems it as "unsafe to drive".
Frame rusted, crack and holes are larger than 7/16 inch through right front inside behind motor mount. Vehicle is stationary, parked after Toyota employee verbally stated unsafe for road trip but could be used around town. 11/11/17 sparks Toyota frame recall, corrosion resistant compound applied by bristol Toyota on 11/2014, after bringing it in for recall of frame replacement. Contacted Toyota corporate 9/20/2017 and they stated they could do nothing for me, contact NHTSA for safety issues.
Front frame is rusted in multiple areas . 3-4 inch holes completely through frame . Toyota replaced back gas tank straps , spare tire carrier and sprayed frame from cab back . Didnt address the safety issues on front of framebut would not pass vehicle for wv state inspection. Stated that vehicle was unsafe ! noted holes in frame but said they werent replacing frames at this time . My research shows they have replaced many frames and my vehicle certainly is unsafe . All I want is for my sons truck and my son to be safe on the road. . Please help.
I have multi mile wild country tires installed on my truck which are only a few months and a few thousand miles old. Two of the tires have sidewall separation cracks and one is leaking air through the crack. They are: size 265/70r16 dot# u9c2 t93 3213.

When driving over unequal pavement on road, felt and heard noise at rear of vehicle. Saw wheel tumbling down road behind vehicle. Stopped vehicle and noticed that it was spare tire from vehicle. Placed spare tire in bed of truck and when I got home, noticed that the bracket/plate that was securing the spare tire to the underside of the bed had separated from the cable that was holding it in place. The bracket/plate was so corroded/rusted that when the truck hit the bump, the weight of the spare wheel caused it to collapse and allowed the spare tire to fall onto the road.
Rack and pinion steering leak I do not have lift kit on the truck it has been leaking since the truck has had 15000 and the trunk has 49200 on it they sead it was under warranty not happy.

I had the frame inspection recall performed in 2012 and was told the frame is ok so they coated the frame with under coating. A few months later I was driving to work and hit a joint on the highway and ended up in the next lane. As I am in the business I put the vehicle in the air that evening and found the steering rack mount was detached from the frame due to rust. I then spoke to Toyota customer service and explained the situation and I was told to bringthe vehicle back in and they would look at it. I was told again the frame is ok. . I did explain to the dealer that I had to wld a steel plate to the frame so the vehicle would be safe to drive. They still said the frame is ok and they would re spray the frame as a gesture for the inconvenience. I have made numerous calls and emails to Toyota since then because June of 2016 I found rust holes in the frame in 2 different spots. . There is a recall to replace the frame if there are perforations in the frame during the inspection. However I have been told several times they will not assist me any further on this situation. Toyota Tundra continue to have corrison and rust on frame,last inspection on 1/1/12 in a Toyota dealship they check for corrision and did not find any,which is not accurate because as of 9/1/14 rust and a actual hole and crack was found by a certified frame technican. . He said this should have been caught in year of 2012 because metal does not rust that quickly. It takes more that a couple years to actually cause a hole and cracks. Toyota just did a visual and did not look thoughly , they did not want to go to the expense of taking care of the problem leaving a unsafe vehicles on the roads and risking people lives.
(1). I purchased a new 2000 Toyota Tundra extended cab limited at price Toyota in delaware. In February 2009 I observed rust through of bracket from bed to frame visible through rear wheel well. Requested that my wife report this to liberty Toyota in NJ during routine 5000 mile oil change. She was told that this was "not a problem". (2). In September 2009 truck was again taken to liberty Toyota for 5000 mile oil change, purchase of 5 new tires and alignment. Liberty Toyota service told my wife that the truck was rusted to the point where they could no longer align the vehicle and no service was performed. Liberty took photos of the underside of the truck and transmitted them to Toyota. Approximately two weeks later liberty told my wife that Toyota's position was that because of the age and mileage (9 years and 110,000 miles ) that they would do nothing to resolve this issue. (3). In late September 2009 I purchased a 2006 Toyota Tundra crew cab 4 door Tundra limited as a replacement vehicle for my wife a Toyota runnemead, NJ. On that same occasion the 2000 Tundra was put on lift and inspected with a powerful light. Observed various rust through of brackets and at least one fist sized hole through the frame. This was witnessed by the Toyota runnemeade sales person, general manager, sales manager, and service manager. All agreed that this was worst case of rust they had seen, and were of the opinion that the truck was not safe to operate. (4). In October 2009 I contacted Toyota customer service and received a case number. A few days later I again contacted Toyota customer service and was told that "Toyota is studying the problem". This sounded like a stall tactic and gave me little hope for any voluntary positive action from Toyota. As of today 11 November 2009 I have had no further contact from Toyota. (5). I have purchased or helped purchase 5 Toyota trucks for my family. Total expenditure approximately $150,000.
Rust on everything under the truck as well as the rear bumper. Parts that have had to be replaced because of rust and/or rust perforation or need to be replaced: 1) entire frame ¿ perforation greater than 10mm found on passenger siderail 2) rear differential (leaking from rust perforation) 3) brake lines 4) power steering line (leaking from rust) 5) skid plate (support brackets rusted - fell off while driving) 6) brake calipers (multiple times) 7) coil springs 8) axles (front and back) 9) control arms 10) cv- joint 11) boots 12) hitch receiver 13) exhaust 14) muffler 15) camber bolt 16) multiple sets of tires (unable to align tires properly due to rusted/seized camber bolt) causing premature tread wear. 17) brake drums (warped and pitted) 18) wheel bearing 19) truck tailgate support wires ¿ wires rusted and broke. Tailgate won¿t open/close without extreme effort because it is not aligned properly. 20) shocks/struts 21) seals, brackets, nuts and bolts - the parts listed above is not complete. Basically, everything you see under the truck is suffering from extreme rust and/or perforated. *truck has had a horrible shimmy for years that no one has been able to figure out, particularly bad when towing. Steering wheel shakes violently as well as the entire truck. Improved slightly when rear differential and axles were replaced. Most likely related to frame warp or instability. *truck has had issues with getting in and out of 4wd. Inconsistent with how long it takes to get in and out of 4wd. There is a loud and jarring clunk when engaging or disengaging 4wd. *truck feels like it is on the verge of going out of control when a hole or bump is hit. The truck will literally jump sideways. *traction stability control comes on randomly when hitting a bump or hole. Another mystery to mechanic.
Frame/chassis is rusting at weld joints and mounts. Paint is bubbling and rust is visible below the cracked paint areas, which concerns me since I tow a 6,000 lbs RV trailer. I am also concerned that the vehicle might not pass the virginia state vehicle inspection.
The frame and cross members are deteriorated to the point of breaking. The front driveshaft and steering linkage is excessively deteriorated. The brake and fuel tank brackets are also deteriorated and are failing to support attached components.
