2004 Toyota Tundra. Left rear upper shock mount rotted away and the shock absorber is no longer connected. (rust) auto service report 12/30/2024. October 21, 2021 Toyota dealership report: recommends replace spare tire cross member. (rust perforation damage) recall issued for rust and dealership performed a very limited service repair to this vehicle years ago. The recall repair consisted of rust proof paint applied to a very small limited area, not to frame, not to cross member, not to any shock mount) concerned about rust currently causing the shock mount to fail and the cross member rust damage along with frame rust on the passenger side. 2 different dealerships told me this concern it is not under a recall. This Toyota Tundra truck is well maintained with regular scheduled auto service checks and appointments. It is never used for towing or off road use. I am the original owner, central new jersey use only. The truck runs and looks good. The high amount of rust under the truck should not have occurred to the level of a shock mount rusting out and a cross member rusting out and frame rust.

Multi-media center, displays a programmed promo for the program "experience drive connect"; while the vehicle is either blue toothed or directly connected to a phone through car play. The screen promo pops up at the most inopportune time, sometimes repeatedly within a short period of time. This is very distracting, as it forces the driver to cancel out the screen to continue reviewing the map. The screen promo pop up has nearly caused this driver to have an accident and miss required turns during travels. Toyota is aware of the programming issue and states it cannot do anything about it. They were contacted twice, most recently on 12/11/2024, phone # 800-331-4331.
This has happened a few times. I go to pull out of a parking lot needing to cross traffic and the truck hesitates and then feels like it punches it across the intersection. I’ve had people have to slam on their brakes thinking I just stalled in the middle. Should have been able to make it with no incident but I just avoid trying to cross quickly now.
Unknown:urgent safety concern – speedometer visibility issue in 2024 Toyota Tundra to whom it may concern, I am writing to formally raise a significant safety concern regarding the plastic speedometer cover on the 2024 Toyota Tundra. The material used for the speedometer screen is extremely prone to scratching, even under normal driving conditions. Despite using my vehicle exclusively for regular commuting, fine dust and routine cleaning have progressively worsened the visibility of the speedometer display. This issue is not just cosmetic—it is a growing safety hazard. The accumulation of scratches significantly reduces the clarity of speed readings, making it difficult to accurately monitor speed while driving. This can lead to unintended speeding, difficulty maintaining safe driving speeds, and an increased risk of accidents. Given that this problem is occurring under normal use, it is reasonable to assume that other Tundra owners will face similar issues over time, potentially leading to widespread safety concerns. I strongly urge Toyota to investigate this issue immediately and consider a recall or design modification to prevent further degradation of the speedometer visibility. Ensuring that drivers have a clear and unobstructed view of their speed is critical for road safety. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. I look forward to your response. Sincerely, [xxx] [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
My sunroof exploded due to weather conditions while I was driving with my family on highway during heavy rain storm.

Vehicle stereo volume does not mute when a text message is received and being read out loud.
Dash camera will not function and has to shutdown when the warning goes off.
The tailgate can be easily dislodged from hinge when lifting from the passenger side of tailgate leading to it coming out of the c hinge and hurting individual not expecting the full weight of tailgate coming off. No injuries luckily happened at the time of incident other than minor cosmetic damage from where the tailgate hit. I have video recreating what happened to describe the incident better but lack of hinge protection could result in serious injury if this occurs again.
Hello, noticed the fuel gauge was reading full after retrieving boat after a day of fishing. Before launching the boat the gauge read 1/2. Filled up at the gas station with the needle on full and it took approximately 16 gallons. The Toyota dealer said they could find no problems and reset the gauge. Running out of gas could be a serious problem towing a boat. Thank you.
Secondary air injection pumps went bad.

It has been over one year since NHTSA recall number23v566 was issued (10 August 2023) and the final remedy is still not available. Safety of vehicle owners (and families) must not be very high on Toyota's or NHTSA's priority list. Nhtsa must make Toyota take immediate action to correct this fire hazard. Waiting one year for a remedy for this fire safety hazard is way too long.
The frame/chassis of my truck has sections that are completely rusted out. For instance, the part of the chassis that is responsible for holding the fuel tank in place is rotting away. I know there was a service campaign to have these trucks coated with some preventive coating but that is as effective as the original coating. The truck needs a new frame due to rust.

I have a 2022 Tundra with 18,700 miles on it that is part of the recall for a new engine! this is my fourth Tundra, and the materials used in the 3rd gen are sub-par to say the least! I have already had to replace the actuator and motor in my passenger window because it was stuck halfway open/closed and it took the dealership almost 2 weeks just to get the parts and put them in. My tailgate isn't aligned properly and the mold growth on all the rubber window trim is a nightmare as well as the roof wells that are also covered in mold up and down both sides. My rear passenger door doesn't close correctly and nobody at Toyota knows how to fix any of these issues! I am very concerned about a dealership putting a new engine in my truck when they can't even change the oil or rotate my tires correctly. I also have other serious issues like, I feel a giant thud like somebody rear ended me when I step on the gas from a red light or stop sign and sometimes when I step on the gas on the highway and it scares the heck out of me. It almost feels like the back of my truck fell off. When it's raining out and my hood is covered in water and then the rain stops and I turn my windshieldwipers off, the water that rolls down the hood is spit straight into my windshield from the radiator fan! I also took it to the dealership to fix the fuel line recall, and they said they don't have the parts available, it's been over 2 weeks now and the recall was issued last year.
The tailgate opens on its own while I am traveling down the highway. I now have to brace anything I put in the bed of the truck lest the tailgate opens on the highway and I spill my load and cause a catastrophic injury or death on the highway. When shifting into park, having to keep my brakes firmly engaged due to a periodic and rapid acceleration of the engine. At cruising speed, on the highway, a vibration that only occurs when climbing hills coupled with a rapid pulsing of the engine/transmission. At cruising speed, on a level ground, the transmission rapidly disengages and reengages. Weekly I have gauge and infotainment malfunctions wherein I have to turn off the truck and restart it to make the gauges work. The gauges just freeze and fail to respond. The compass flips direction. Malfunctioning gas gauge. The backdoors lock and will not unlock. Occasionally, when they lock, I have to crawl into the backseat, from the from seat and manually unlock the door from the inside of the truck. A flat tire where when I went to change it, the jack bent…in my driveway. I now have to carry a 3rd-party jack and tools to handle emergency repairs. A regular malfunction of the rearview mirror. A cracked drivers seat. 6-months after purchasing the truck, the door trim came off in my hand. When I spoke to the Toyota tech, he advised me that this was not covered under warranty, and suggested that some customers keep the trim off as “most of the trim was installed with double-sided tape and would just fail again”. Though, to be fair, he did offer to, at several hundred dollars a pop, keep replacing the trim every couple of months. While my truck is parked in the garage, when the trucks system does an update, it opens my garage door.
Years back there was a recall in regard to the frame. I brought the truck into colonial Toyota in milford CT for the recall. I was advised that the frame was fine and did not need to be replaced. Recently when I brought the truck in for an oil change the owner advised me that the gas straps attached to the frame had rusted out. He demanded that I remove the vehicle from his facility ASAP due to the excessive danger this created and not to drive the truck. He advised me to get rid of it. I reached out to a mechanic who advised that it could be welded back; however it would cost thousands of dollars to have that done. I contacted Toyota corporate to explain the situation and they advised me that there was nothing they could do to assist me with this issue. This truck had been well maintained and it ran perfectly with 280,000 miles. My goal was to run it to 400,000 miles as Toyota trucks tend to have a high mileage longevity when serviced as required. New a/c was replaced within the last three years; brakes/rotors/belts were replaced within the last 18 months. This truck was well maintained. Since this was my work truck I needed a vehicle ASAP and ended up purchasing a new 2024 Toyota Tundra which was an expense that I hadn't been expecting at all. I opted for the extended warranty option that was an extra $3,000. 00 to protect me and the new truck going forward. Toyota should be responsible for some of these additional expenses as it was Toyota who advised me during the recall that the frame was fine and did not need to be replaced. Obviously that was not correct and they should be held responsible for the negative and very expensive outcome that this caused.

There is still many of these Toyota Tundras out there that have frame problems! like mine which had a bad frame but spent half its life in florida during the winners and within 4 years of being in new york showed rust in within another 4 years had holes in the frame! Toyota coated my frame three different times to buy time to get it off the timeline for the recall! it's a 2007 Tundra sr5 with a bad frame.

Tire are wearing on the outside only premature tire wear feathering real bad looks like the alignment specs are wrong from Toyota manufacturer.
I have been informed that my vehicle was affected by the recall involving the machining debris and therefore unsafe to drive. The dealership in kendall Toyota, who is not normally my service dealer called me and after removing all my belongings and waiting for hours I was told my rental car was a Chevrolet traverse, which I was unable to use for my business and was told I had to leave it with them indefinitely, and so I called my usual dealership in hollywood, who informed me they would be able to help me out with a more appropriate rental vehicle the next day I advised the dealership at kendall picked up my truck and went to Toyota of hollywood only to be sent away stating that they did not have the remedy and we’re not able to help me. I have since followed up and every time I go in they tell me again only once I get there they don’t have the remedy and this is happened three times. I feel unsafe driving the vehicle and would very much like to have a safe and dependable vehicle to which I feel I am owed considering how much I paid for this truck . I feel like I am getting the runaround.
There was three warning light showing malfunction collision warning and I tried to to dealership and they said nothing is wrong.

The horn does not work. I bought the truck yesterday 6/21/2024 and on the ride home I tried to use my horn when another vehicle cut me off on the highway and realized that I don’t have a functioning horn. I have contacted the dealership but they have not responded yet.
June 14-15, 24 I was driving down the road when all of a sudden it felt like I hit something hard with the passenger front side of my truck. I knew there was nothing anywhere in the road other than potholes, so I was very shocked and worried of what it was. The truck jerked hard and slammed my head into the driver side window post almost knocking me out. It took all I had to keep from wrecking and hitting someone head on. Upon inspection, I saw that the frame had completely rusted through on the passenger side. I had a mechanic, body shop and several very experienced people look at it and have spoken with my insurance company and sent photos, but all are saying this is a serious life threatening Toyota issue where there were recalls and class action suits and they should be held accountable because they know there is a problem. Carfax didn’t show any issues and there were no apparent issues that stood out when I purchased the truck in oct 2023. I still owe a lot on it and can’t drive it due to this issue. My mom spoke with a lady at Toyota who agreed that this never should’ve happened and that they would work with us to remedy the problem. Then she was transferred to another dept and then another dept and eventually told that Toyota has no open campaigns, the vehicle is out of warranty due to age and miles. No pictures were asked for even though they were offered as this is a serious safety problem that they know about. I was unaware at the time of purchase of this serous problem, but now that I’ve done a lot of research, I see that many have had similar incidents and luckily lived to write about it. Will the next one be so lucky? all I want is for Toyota to repair the vehicle. Toyota did tell my mom that a recall in 2016 had a rust plate/guard placed on the truck. It failed to work! Toyota needs to be held accountable for the many who are still having these issues. They are a large CO. Whi can afford to assist us who are struggling due to their sorry products.
I backed out of my drive way and then proceeded to the stop sign at the end of my street which is three houses from mine. Turned left off of milwaukee Ave in hines onto e. Pettibone I started to accelerate to speed limit which is 25. I then looked at speedometer it stated I was going 15 mph then all of a sudden my truck accelerated to almost 69 mph then my truck slammed in the brakes. My foot was still on the gas petal and I never felt the gas petal push down when it accelerated. No my cruise control was not activated and no lights came on to indicate what it was doing or that there was anything wrong. Steve’s hometown Toyota could not find anything wrong with the truck, but then again I don’t trust them I gave them a month to get the guy to fix it and the part and the loaner to fix the canister on my highlander but when my appointment came up the guy couldn’t stay the full 5 hours to fix my car and they did not have a loaner and did not have the part. That is how I got into the 2023toyota Tundra. Then it develops a brain that it wants to go faster then slammed on the breaks. That truck hurt me and gave me whiplash. They want me to pick it up. I am not driving it. I am lucky no one was in the truck and on the road the time the incident happened. I have made a report totoyota and let them know that I have doctors notes and my daughter was on the phone with me through the truck not on my phone. I am afraid that they are going to put me back into the same truck that hurt me. Know I find out that the 2023 trucks have a recall on them. They still don’t have an answer for me. What if they put me in another Toyota truck what if they have the same problems. I used to have faith in Toyotas but now I don’t. It hurt me and I am still having issues from that stupid truck.
Parking camera stopped showing backup lines. All other cameras suddenly stopped working.
Toyota has recall, stall engine , knocking noise.
Big hesitation on the throttle response when accelerating, so much so as almost causing accident due to delay from hitting gas pedal to acceleration.
On numerous occasions when I am at a stop sign leaving work and trying to accelerate onto the 4 line highway my vehicle acceleration has a delay in it causing me to not properly accelerate into traffic almost causing me to get hit on numerous occasions. I have complained about this situation to the dealer and was told once that it was normal for the delay and once that it is just a v6 engine so that is why the delay. I am sure that I am not the only person having this issue is a problem and will be the result of many accidents if not addressed.
The vehicle did not pass PA state inspection due to broken front shock mounts and severe frame corrosion.
There radio knob continually falls offs. It is located on the driver side and falls off almost every time turned. As such it has fallen under the pedals and/or my foot which causes a distraction and/or the need to move suddenly move my foot. This can be a hazard especially when braking.
This vehicle was recalled for frame rust issues. The dealer under coated the frame in-lieu of replacing it, as they have done with so many others. Now I'm facing a safety issue, as the frame has rusted through in critical areas. The major concern is if the frame snaps in half while under high speeds causing an accident and potentially injuring other and or myself. I have contacted the manufacturer and they provided a case number (240530000550). The dealer is aware of this issue and they were the ones that recommended contacting this organization as well as the manufacturer.

I purchased a 2005 Toyota Tundra for my son for his first vehicle. After taking it to a professional mechanic to be inspected I was told that the frame is rotted from rust and cannot pass inspection. After researching this issue I found that Toyota had a recall on their frames because of how many and how bad the frames were. I believe this Tundra rates the recall because of how bad the rust is. Any help getting this recall to fix this known issue with the rusting frames would be greatly appreciated, thank you for your time.
