1 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2007 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 05/01/2010

I had my truck in for service and they fix the gas pedal which has made it worse. The truck hesitates then lurches ahead. It happens all the time. Also the transmission is making a banging noise and doesn't shift right. It bangs on acceleration and deceleration have had it to the dealers shop and they acknowledge the problem but won't fix it.

2 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2002 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 01/16/2010

I encountered the same transmission failure that's similar to other NHTSA odi reports. The problem - which I understand is fairly common with this 2002 Toyota Tundra - started with rough shifting and clunking noises in the power train at around 60,000 miles. The odd sounds started intermittently at highway speeds and then became more frequent and then finally resulted in failure at around 111,000. The transmission quit at a highway intersection stop 140 miles from home in January, 2010. It would not go into proper gear after stopping on the highway. The vehicle was towed to the nearest Toyota dealer in victoria, texas on Saturday evening for repair work that was eventually done four days later at a total out-of-pocket cost of nearly $4,000 (parts, labor, rental car, towing; does not include missed work). . . This vehicle has been maintained properly by my Toyota dealer. So the transmission should not have failed so soon, as my other trucks (Ford, Dodge, and even Nissan) never required transmission replacements, leaving me stranded in harm's way along a rural highway. So my next pickup truck will most likely not be a Toyota.

3 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2000 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 11/01/2008

The transmission occasionally made a clunking noise and felt like the tire hit a small pothole in the road when shifting into overdrive. This started around 80,000 miles. I had the transmission fluid changed and the transmission pan dropped. The pan magnets had mostly small metal shavings but also a few larger pieces around 1/4" long. Now at 85,000 miles the transmission makes a very loud thud noise and shakes the truck violently every time it shifts into overdrive. I am forced to keep the truck in 3rd gear until I reach the freeway and then must press the o/d switch to shift into 4th gear/overdrive. My mechanic will be replacing the transmission next week as he has been on vacation. I cannot believe that the transmission must be replaced at only 85,000 miles! I am a careful driver and conscientious about maintenance.

4 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2001 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 01/10/2006

My 2001 Tundra, v-6, sr5 access cab truck turned 105,000 miles recently. My transmission started shifting very hard one day. I took the truck and had the transmission fluid changed and it seem to get better for a while, then the overdrive began to make a roar when it would engage. Shifting between gears 1-3 works fine, but when overdrive kicks in, the noise and vibrations occur. I took my truck to multiple transmission repair shops and got the same message. They have seen this issue with Toyota trucks (tundra/sequoia) around 100,000 miles, where the overdrive slips and a bearing must be changed in the transmission, requiring an overhaul.
