1 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2008 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 09/14/2021

Secondary air injection switching valve failed while changing lanes causing my vehicle to go into creep mode and almost cause a colision with vehicle behind me due to no power. My understanding is that this is a serious and re occuring issue that has been around for some time and I am just now being made aware of it by Toyota who claims this is not a safety issue. Could have died in this car incident.

2 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2010 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 09/28/2020

Toyota refused to honor a known issue, cause the TSB expired in March 2020. With the admission of a known problem they should honor and fix the problem TSB 01-60-11, air injection pump.

3 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2013 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 08/01/2020

On two different occasions I was driving my Tundra on the freeway at approx. 70 mph. My truck lost power and I almost caused accidents on both instances since I could not accelerate past 40 mph. I had to manage my way out of the freeway to a safe place. 2two diagnostics were performed and I received codes p0418, p1604, c1241, p2445, p2441. I was told by the Toyota dealership that there was a problem with a faulty secondary air injection system pump and other components related to the system and I was provided a repair cost of over $3,000 dollars. I was later informed, and I discovered through research, that Toyota had installed faulty/defective air pumps in thousands of Tundras 2013's like the one that I own. I reached out to corporate office but they stated that my VIN number somehow did not "qualify" as one of the affected pickups. My Tundra only has 60k miles and I use it to commute from and to work basically. I perform routine maintenance. There is obviously a problem with a defective secondary air pump system that Toyota refuses to fix. My truck is a liability on the road and this is my only means of transportation. It looses power and the check engine light activates. Toyota recalled thousands of vehicles like mine and fixed them after they acknowledged that they had placed faulty air pump systems. My truck is a potential possible cause for an accident since it unpredictably looses power on the freeway. I have not received a solution from headquarters/corporate office to repair my truck at no price since it is affected by their faulty pumps. They did offer $750 dollars towards the cost of parts, meaning that I have to come out with over $2000k out of pocket. I need Toyota to take responsibility and fix my truck.

4 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2013 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 06/01/2020

My 2013 Toyota Tundra truck ( 74,734 miles) suddenly had engine failure while driving down an incline at 48 mph. I lost power steering and power brakes. After eventually pulling the wheel with much effort and using the emergency brake I was able to get the truck off to the side of the road. I turned the key and the engine started right away and I was able to drive again but only at a reduced speed of 40 mph or less ( it's called "limp" mode) my mechanic diagnosed it as a secondary air injection pump failure. Upon investigating this on several Tundra owner message boards, I find that this is a common failure Tundra trucks at around 75000 miles. The Toyota dealer confirmed that this has been a common problem and looked up my VIN number to see if it qualified for a warranty extension program that Toyota has offered for some 2012 and 2013 Tundra trucks. Unfortunately my VIN number was a few numbers beyond the extension program. Had my wife been driving the truck when this happened, I am not so sure she would have had the strength to safely bring the truck under control and get it off the road with no power steering or power brakes. I want Toyota to extend the warranty on this faulty part before someone gets into a serious accident. They have obviously admitted there is a problem with this part and should extend it to all Toyota truck owners with this particular problem. Not just a select few.

5 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2012 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 11/27/2019

2012 Toyota Tundra 4. 6 l at 101,000 miles went into limp mode causing a lack of power and acceleration during city driving which could have resulted in a rear end collision. Was able to limp vehicle to nearby Toyota dealer who diagnosed that the secondary air injection system was faulty. Cost to repair was more than I wanted to pay beingthat I had just purchased the truck within the past month or so. Toyota did not cover the repair so a bypass kit was installed at my expense to get the truck back under power. Contacted Toyota and they advised that the system was not covered however it should be noted that on 2010 models and others the warranty on the system was extended to 150,000 but not on the 2012 4. 6l engines that have the same problems as the others.

6 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2009 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 05/08/2019

Air injection system failed while driving up hill. Vehicle would only drive on flat or downhill, no more than 35 mph. Toyota had an extended warranty of 10 yrs or 150k. Which our vehicle is 103k and 10 years 1 month. Toyota would not fit us into the warranty.

7 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2013 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 05/01/2019

Truck stopped excellerating. Took to mechanic and was told it was in safe mode due to the air injection values had water in them. It will cost $2336. 00 to fix it. This should be recalled.

8 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2012 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 04/03/2019

While driving, multiple dashboard lights came on and my truck went into "limp mode," meaning I lost almost all power while driving in heavy traffic. Turns out this is an issue with the air injection pump, which is a known problem in Toyota Tundras. I believe this is a safety issue that Toyota needs to address.

10 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2011 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 01/01/2019

Check engine light came on and I ask was it a recall on the air injection and secondary air pumps needs to be replaced. Maintence person said it should have showed up on his computer at the shop. I was driving when that check engine light came on and air switching valves.

11 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2013 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 12/22/2018

The air injection pump is defective and allows condensation and or moisture which leads to totally failure. I have already spent 1100. 00 dollars for one side now the otherside is failing. . This failure caused the truck to lack any get up when pulling out into traffic. It wants to stall.

12 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2012 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 10/01/2018

The secondary air injection system has failed. It is a common problem on Tundras. Power loss occurs while driving and the vehicle cant get over 45mph.

13 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2013 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 09/26/2018

I was driving and out of nowhere my engine light comes on. I take it to auto zone to do a quick check and I was informed that it is my injection pumps that are bad. I did research and in the past Toyota has had to recall for this exact problem on the exact vehicle but it was for a different year. I called Toyota and they said my vehicle year does not fall into the recall but I'm sure that it is the exact thing.

14 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2013 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 07/02/2017

Air injection pump and valve has a history of failure in Toyota Tundras. . Their was a recall up until 2011 on Tundras. I have owned this vehicle for 9 months. I took my vehicle to price leblanc Toyota in baton rouge louisiana , and to replace these parts and labor is gonna be $2600 dollars. These parts are defective as the dealers keep them in stock because of so many failures and consumers are having to pay this huge charge. I have spoke with Toyota corporation and they refuse to replace. With the failure of this part when u are driving the vehicle stalls upon acceleration. This is dangerous when u are pulling out or merging in traffic. . As of now I cannot afford 2600 dollars in repairs. Thank you.

15 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2011 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 05/17/2017

While driving the check engine light came on and I lost propulsion power resulting in vehicle slowing down and almost creating an accident from behind. I had the vehicle checked via a obd2 code checker which resulted in code p2442. After verifying code, it looks as if it is a faulty air intake. Looking through several sources on the internet, it seems to be a very common problem that Toyota is refusing to acknowledge or repair. Please take this issue into consideration and help the consumer. Fuel propulsion system I purchased my 2011 Tundra quarter end 2011. It has less than 100k miles and is well maintained by the dealer. Late may 2017 e light came on and I took the vehicle to the dealer to have this checked. I learned that I had an issue with the secondary air injection system. The estimated cost of the repair was quoted at $3,000.

16 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2007 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 02/11/2017

My traction control light has came on and stays on, my vsc light continuously flashes. The code that it keeps sending is p2440 and p2441 (secondary injection). I had went overseas with the military for two years and came back last year to change the battery and this started. The truck only has 75,000 miles. This is all the time, doesn't matter stopped, going, high speed, low speed.

17 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2011 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 02/10/2017

Fuel propulsion system I purchased my 2011 Tundra quarter end 2013. It has less than 100k miles and is well maintained by the dealer. Late August 2016 the check engine light came on and I took the vehicle to the dealer to have this checked. I learned that I had an issue with the secondary air injection system. The estimated cost of the repair was quoted at $3,360. 00. As a long time owner or driver of Toyota vehicles of 35 years, I was shocked in that I had never experienced such issues. I purchase Toyota because I trust the quality, reliability and design. I understand that Toyota has recalled and is covering the cost of the replacement for vehicles 2007-2010. There appears to be an issue with the 2011 models and this should be investigated and the coverage expanded to include this year as well. The new technology was not in place when my car was manufactured. This defect creates unsafe conditions for the driver to navigate busy highways or country roads. I have this truck for hauling on occasion and I am so thankful that I did not have livestock in tow. The dealer reached out to Toyota for assistance in the replacement. I believe that the total cost should be covered in that it is a known defect/issue that still was not corrected when my car was manufactured. Most owners may not take the time to register a complaint. I wonder how many owners have had the same experience. I have not provided technical information here in that this is a known defect and I experienced all the effects of the defect while driving.

18 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2011 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 01/16/2017

The check engine light and the acs light came on while driving. The truck went into a "limp" mode and would not accelerate properly. I took the vehicle to bob tyler Toyota in pensacola florida. They determined that it was the air injection pump in the emission's system. They stated that the pump had water in it. My extended warranty would not cover the repairs stating it was a known Toyota problem for my vehicle. The warranty company sent me a Toyota service bulletin (t-sb-0160-11). The bulletin clearly states that in some 2007 - 2011 model year Tundra vehicles that water intrusion into the air injection pump assembly occurs. The current recall notice is for 2007-2010 Tundras. That recall should be extended to cover 2011 Tundras since it is a known problem. Attached is the Toyota service bulletin and bob tyler's service / repair order.

19 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2011 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 08/30/2016

I purchased my 2011 Tundra quarter end 2010. It has less than 100k miles and is well maintained by the dealer. Late August 2016 the check engine light came on and I took the vehicle to the dealer to have this checked. I learned that I had an issue with the secondary air injection system. I have this truck for hauling on occasion and I am so thankful that I did not have livestock in tow. The dealer reached out to Toyota for assistance in the replacement. Toyota covered 45% of the cost to replace the air injection system which I appreciate; however, I believe that the total cost should be covered in that it is a known defect/issue that still was not corrected when my car was manufactured. Most owners may not take the time to register a complaint. I wonder how many owners have had the same experience. I have not provided technical information here in that this is a known defect and I experienced all the effects of the defect while driving.

20 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2011 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 01/30/2016

I was driving on the freeway and my Tundra would not go past 20 mph. I almost got into an accident on the freeway and had to pull off/exit. I brought it to a Toyota dealer for an authorize diagnostic and repair. My secondary injection valve was defective back in January 2016 and the quote price was $2860 from my local Toyota dealer. Toyota did not cover the faulty injection until a warranty enhancement letter came out in August 2017 for owner's to submit paperwork. This may affect other Toyota Tundra and sequoia model as well.

21 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2005 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

Secondary injection pump trigger a limp mode which is extremely dangerous on the highway. Toyota has extended the warranty on all vehicle except the 2005, 2006, 2007 which have the exact same air pumps installed. This repair is costing Toyota owners in excess of $3,000. 00 with vehicles having having less the 100k miles. This is obviously an emission issue that Toyota should address, the u. S. Has made vw responsible for there shortcomings I think Toyota should be held accountable.

22 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2005 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 12/29/2014

I bought my truck new and had every scheduled maintenance performed. The secondary air injection system has failed and the truck is in limp mode and will not drive or pass emissions. I have been told the repair is around 3500 and the dealer nor Toyota corporation will take responsibility for the faulty part. Even though they know it has been a problem for years and they extended the warranty on 2007 thru 2010 models which use the same parts. I am trying to take legal action to get some resolution.

23 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2011 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 10/19/2014

On sun. 10/11/14, I drove our Tundra on the highway when it lost power. The engine raced and rpms increased, but the speed fell and no acceleration was possible. On a hill, speed fell to about 15 mph. I was on my way to pick up my horse and trailer; if I had been towing them, it would have been catastrophic especially given the highway speed traffic. It was still dangerous even without the trailer. I turned on my hazard lights and limped off. "check engine" lit up. Took to dealership the next day, who said check engine code was "p2445" for "secondary air injection system water intrusion" requiring replacement of the air pump assembly, air pump inlet, emission valve set, etc. For $2600 because water invaded the system. The service tech said that this was not a known issue, but my internet search showed that Toyota issued a 12-page 2011 technical service bulletin, stating that "the air pump assembly inlet has been updated to prevent water intrusion. " Toyota has neither recalled the defective inlets nor notified owners. The TSB says only trucks under the 36,000/ 3 year warranty are covered. Tundras are tow vehicles and it is foreseeable how unsafe this is. Because my truck was sold just over 3 years ago, the local dealership at first could not cover it. I contacted Toyota headquarters, who referred me back to the local service manager, who then reached southeast regional Toyota office, which finally agreed to cover the repair. When this air pump inlet fails, it allows water to enter the air injection system and the system to then fail in the dangerous way that occurred in my case, resulting in a sudden loss of power. I am concerned about this happening to others and that the dealers seem unaware of this TSB and this "known issue. . Read more...

24 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2011 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 07/16/2014

Vehicle would not accelerate past 40mph. This occurred suddenly while driving. Dealership determined it was air injection pump failure. After discussion with master mechanic and a service manager I found that this problem was diagnosed it earlier models up to and including 2010 Tundra where Toyota took care of the repair . But they continued to use this part until late 2011. My truck was delivered in fall of 2010 and had the older style part. They changed the part design and now it prevents moisture to enter the pump and prevents corrosion which caused pump failure. The original part had flared head tubing and no seal the new design has a sealed tube end. Toyota new this would fail yet they did not make the recall I have requested a reimbursement but the have so far failed to do so this cost me over $2400 this expense should be entirely on Toyota.

25 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2012 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 01/10/2013

My issue is related to the issue I am facing with Toyota company. I purchased my truck within 2012 and since I have purchased the truck I took this truck to the dealership for several issues. Within few months of purchase the air injection pump stop working, truck was at the dealership for over a month. Toyota installed trd updated for my "inconvenience" I took my truck back to have looked at over 10times. On Friday I start having the same issues, so I dropped of my truck at the szott dealership on Saturday evening March 1st. Monday morning service manager called and informed that air injection pump is bad and it may take over 4 weeks to have the part replaced, about 4 weeks ago truck stop running so I took it to the dealership close by in canton, Toyota of canton replace the fuel pump, truck was at the dealership for a week. I try reaching out to Toyota and see if they could help me resolve the issue, but Toyota don't care. See below email I sent to Toyota on 12-13. I was assign "case manager" was no help at all. All I am asking Toyota to replace/resolve my truck issues. I am tired of taking my truck for repairs. I will file the complaint to the attorney general's office as well. Issues with cabin is being loud air comes from the windshield and form the left and right doors/windows. Truck was at the dealership last year for over 3 weeks due to the air intake pump issue. I am still facing the same issues while driving truck lose power and while I am pulling over some time I get the power back some time I have to wait to make sure I can drive over 25miles per hour. All the brakes have been replaced due to vibration, navigation system goes in and out while driving, dealership was informed. Whole dash lights electric in the dash flicker while driving. Last month battery died and electric issues are still there.

26 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2005 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 11/03/2012

Quoted for almost 4000 to fix this manifold air injection manifold. Researched online and found out it to be a common problem with this car due defect. I don't understand why they recalled 2007 and newer but not the older ones which seems to have the same problem. I hope your agency can assist us with this issue.

27 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2008 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 10/20/2012

Driving up a; hill all the sudden it loses power going u a hill all my dash light starts to blink check engine light 4 hi lo are blinking and starts to shake thru a p2442 code this is suppose to be a quality built truck for air injection pumps to be going out and after reading all the issues Toyota has had on the 07 and 08 you think they would put better parts in the trucks . After reading about this issue it is common anywhere from 11,000 to 60,000 miles this issue is a 1,700 out of pocket us doing this our self will never do business with Toyota after it breaking at 40,000 miles.

28 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2007 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 02/14/2011

2007 Toyota Tundra, I was taking my Tundra in for an oil change and the check engine light came on and I started losing power on my truck I had them check it. Toyota came back and said that fuel vapor switching valve was stuck closed, I took it to another repair shop for a second opinion they found that a secondary injection pump was stuck open, they suggested I take it back to Toyota for clarification. Toyota's second diagnosis was they found both air injection pumps were corroded and needed to be replaced for $2100. 00. This is a design flaw the dealer called Toyota and said they would pay $600. 00 but I had to pay for the rest. This is a design flaw that Toyota has all but admitted to but won't really do anything to fix it. They should be help responsible for the whole amount. I was told they won't because my truck has 110,00 miles on it. Mileage has nothing to do with this issue its a design issue.

29 Other Fuel System Fuel Injection System problem of the 2008 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 04/08/2009

Going up ramp onto hwy 90 as I was trying to merge into traffic the air injection pump and air switching valves failed and truck power decreased to 30 miles per hour. This is the second time I almost had an accident due to this issue happening at an inappropriate time. Toyota will not cover repair as they said defective manufacture of system not covered after 150,000 miles. Defect is their issue and should be rectified by them at no charge to customer as this is a driving hazard they have already admitted to the first time at 49,000 miles.
