1 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2022 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 03/09/2024

Heartland Toyota 901 w hills boulevard, bremerton, wa 98312 (360) 377-1200 brought in my 2022 Toyota Tundra for fire hazard recall (23tb09) on March 9,2024. Upon completion of work, I inspected it and find out that the repair was not done correctly with accordance to rcrit-23v566- 4072 Tundra manual; (1) fuel line not properly attached; (2) electrical harness is pinched and missing attachment; (3) corrugated tube missing ept foam tape; (4) fuel tube shows sign of bending to where the zip tie was on; (5) missing fuel surge tank top cover; (6) wiring not properly insulated and (7) missing mud guard piece on rear wheel well. Verified by 3rd party Toyota technician and acknowledgement from heartland Toyota service rep mr. Dustin beeson that the safety recall was done improperly and unsafe. Mr. Beeson offered to pick my truck to correct these hazardous mistakes but I refused to since this is not the first time it happened where the quality of work or claiming falsely the job was done. Instead, I asked him to supply the parta that was taken and I will just file a report to Toyota to reassign my vehicle repair somewhere else. Upon filing my report, Toyota reassigned me back to heartland customer liaison to which never got back nor I want them to touch my truck ever again. I am now stuck with $60k+ truck that I cannot drive due to the dangerous circumstances and Toyota refusing to fix my vehicle due to one of their dealership's maintenance malpractice. Requesting solution to my personal experience also, please recall all 3rd generation Tundra that has gone through with the recall with these shady shop, to be reinspected due to dangerous fire hazard, a very serious condition that needs action. I have proofed evidence via photos, messages and email of this claim available upon request.

2 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2017 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 03/01/2022

I believe my Tundra has an emissions problem that Toyota will not cover. The fuel tank roll over valve is stuck. I believe this is a hazards condition. Toyota say the fuel tank will have to be replaced and not under warranty. Truck was purchased new by me and has 38887 miles.

3 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 03/14/2021

I've owned the truck for a year bought on Dec 2019 3rd owner. I see that mines not listed as recalled for frame rust but I'm not sure why when the gas tank looks like it going to fall off and seems only critical sections are severely rusted like the gas tank and where the rear shock absorber sits. I could only see these spots now because they are hard to spot places where the frame joins.

4 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 06/24/2020

Rear left fuel tank bracket broke off from truck frame. It appears to have broken at weld. See photo. Noticed problem while driving due to bracket rubbing against driveshaft and scraping on road. Previously, fuel tank bracket on same vehicle snapped and had to be replaced. Truck towed to shop for repair. I will keep broken part once removed from truck.

5 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2017 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 01/17/2020

Fuel tank is suppose to be 37 gallon. I have never put more than 28. 5 gallons in the tank. Even when I run the tank to the red light or my mileage indicator show 20 or less miles remaining. I have ask the dealership twice about this and they claim is a safety feature so you don't run out of fuel. I run the tank down to 10 miles left in tank and that is when I put 28. 5 gallons into it.

6 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2014 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 06/07/2019

I was carrying an old battery on the truck bed and the battery leaks so the fluid spilled over my fuel tank and burn/corrode the vacuum and gas lines. I think the fuel tank should be protected with an upper skill plate because is a truck and you always carry different things and this is kind of expose or drain holes of the bed are not located properly, so they wanna charge me 2k dls for something that is a bad design problem.

10 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2011 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 10/31/2016

Fuel tank fuel sending unit bad. I was pulling out it traffic when the vehicle suddenly died. Some people stopped to help me push it over to the curb. Had it towed to the repair shop. They reported back the vehicle was out of gas and that the fuel tank fuel level sending unit was bad. The repair is $600+. The vehicle has just over 65,000 miles on it. An internet search shows this is a somewhat common problem and has been since 2002 model year. I called Toyota and as expected they are not willing to do anything relative to covering the problem. (case number 1611010676). The fuel gauge was reading just under 1/4 of a tank and the low fuel light was not on when the issue occurred.

11 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2013 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 08/01/2016

When the engine starts it has a very noticeable knocking noise on the passenger side that never goes away. You put it in gear and you can really hear the engine knocking, and the knocking speeds up as you accelerate. Even after the engine warms up completely you can still hear it knocking(stationary, or in motion) . Also my gas mileage is horrible! I average about 12. 3mpg every tank. The best mpg I have ever seen is 13. 4 mpg average which is ridiculous even for a full size truck. I always loved Toyota vehicles and ever since I was young I always wanted a Toyota truck because I thought they were the toughest out there, but after owning this 2013 Toyota Tundra I'm disgusted.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2016 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 11/25/2015

I purchased Toyota Tundra on 6 Nov 2015. Since owning the vehicle I have been getting 460 miles to a full tank of gas (38 gallon tank). Those numbers equate to 12mpg in fuel economy estimates. I picked the vehicle up on 6 nov2015. The truck had a full tank of gas. The fuel efficiency read 570 mile for a full tank of gas. On 13 Nov I drove the vehicle to florida. Every time I filed up the truck with fuel the fuel efficiency reading started to decline. On the first three full tank of gas, the reading was 540 and 520 miles for a full tank of gas on 15 November. I took the vehicle to the dealership on or about 17 Nov. The service department plugged the vehicle up to a computer. The computer sent out a report that showed that the vehicle was getting 18 mpg. The service personnel told me that I would be doing well if I got 14mpg. Based on their comments I was not to expect anything over 15mpg over the highway. On 25 Nov, I drove the vehicle to florida. I decided to manually track the mileage in regard to a full tank of gas with the use of the trip counter. I took pictures of the vehicle only registering 12mpg on a full tank of gas. On a full 38 gallon tank, I was only able to drive 460 miles per tank. That equate to 12mpg. The driving condition was 74-78 degrees; driving on i95; there was only three passengers in the vehicle. I used 89 octane graded gas.

13 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 01/03/2014

Case # [xxx] ( filed with Toyota) on Jan 3rd while returning home from having brakes replaced on my 2008 Tundra my vehicle engine died on a busy 4 lane road with heavy traffic. I lost my ability to steer immediately. Fortunately I was in the right hand lane and was able to pull into a parking lot before I lost total momentum of the vehicle. I tried restarting and it would not. I checked all the indicaters and everything appeared normal. Fuel gauge registered 1/4 full which would equate to approximately 5-7 gallons. After exhausting all efforts to restart the truck I called for a tow truck. When the tow truck arrived I explained to him what was happening and he suggested it might be out of gas!!!. . . I showed him the fuel gage indicator showing the 1/4 level and he told me that his dad also had a Tundra and had experienced issues with the fuel tank float hanging giving false readings of what the actual fuel level was. He suggested we take the truck to the nearest gas station and put a few gallons in prior to taking the truck to the service department. Once we added some gasoline the truck started right up. I was shocked and upset for a number of reason. 1. I just paid a tow service $75 dollars for taking me down the road about a half block to a local convenient store to put gas in my truck. 2. I started realizing what a dangerous safety issue this is. I could have just as well been traveling down the highway at 70 miles per hour and have my engine just quit on me!! the ramifications of that are quite scary as to all the accident scenarios that could occur to include loss of life for not only the driver of the failed vehicle but those traveling close by as well. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

17 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2000 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 06/09/2008

We own 2000 Toyota Tundra w/55,000 miles. Purchased & serviced by same Toyota dealer. Took for routine service 6/9/08 & concern gas tank leaking. Told us "not worth fixing" Toyota rep came & took pictures. The dealer said per the rep Toyota is going to buy it back. If we need a rental Toyota would pay since its unsafe to drive. Frame is badly rusted through & pitted. We inspected & found where the frame measured only 65/1000 thick. Its the same safety issue as the 95-00 tacomas. After 7 weeks waiting & checking, per Toyota the Tundra isn't part of tacoma buyback. They offered $2,000 toward new or certified Toyota. Were not an isolated case of unsafe rusting on this Tundra. Heres just some comments found in blogs & response to questions & concerns about the 2000 Tundra: -my father was driving his 2000 Tundra when the back end jumped off the road & almost crashed the truck. Come to find out, the spare tire fell off & hit the truck. The tire rolled down the road & almost took out a bunch of cars. We looked under the truck & the whole frame looks like it's about to crumble away -my Tundra also a 2000 rusted out pretty good around the frame & in between the bed & frame. . , had to replace both front & rear bumpers & have the rocker panels sprayed with tough stuff -my father in law has a 2000 Tundra that the frame is rusted out very bad. His truck has less than 60,000 miles. . . When I looked underneath I couldn't believe how much rust it had on the frame. . - I have about 93k miles on my Tundra& was told that my frame is rusting so bad I should consider trading it in or selling -im from new hampshire & have serious frame rot. Its rotted through I have a 2000 w/83,000 miles. ¿ -I have more rust than I would like on my 2000 with 56k miles -I have a 2000, w/44000 miles & has just failed state insp. I was told my Tundra is worthless to me unless I pay $638 to repair the frame we did take our truck home and are concerned. This is serious safety issue.
