1 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2008 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 05/05/2019

Frame mount for gas tank has rusted and fuel tank is dropping down. Last year an undercoating was applied by a Toyota dealer and is peeling off in certain areas. I believe pursuant to the class action lawsuit referred to as brian warner et al Toyota motor corporation my vehicle may be covered under warranty because the gas tank strap mounting is part of the frame. As of now, my mechanic advised me not to drive it as it is a safety hazard. I noticed the tank strap was hanging down from the frame and the gas tank was also hanging down while the vehicle was parked in my driveway.

2 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2007 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 03/20/2017

My 2007 Toyota Tundra fuel tank strap rusted through and the fuel tank came loose and partially fell out but was held in by the fill hose and evap hoses. The skid plate that is mounted to the strap broke completely off and was found on the highway. I find this incredibly dangerous if it had been the front strap it could have been catastrophic. I know rust can be an issue but certainly not something I have been worried about on a 9 year old truck. I am not exactly sure when the strap broke as I saw it hanging after work on my way to the truck.

3 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2006 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 05/26/2016

It started with my gas tank falling off the frame. My wife was driving the truck at the time the gas tank band broke that holds the gas tank to the frame. I then found a hole in the frame on the driver's side, just in front of the sway bar mount, large enough to place my hand in to the center of my palm. Obviously, this vehicle is not safe to drive. I then contacted my dealer that I purchased the vehicle from, down east Toyota of brewer, me. The lady I spoke with (lynn), from down east Toyota of brewer, maine, was condescending and arrogant eluding that the problem was somehow my fault. I learned from her that apparently there was a recall for rusted frames. I do not recall getting this recall information. But let that go, my dealer that I bought the truck from (down east Toyota in brewer, maine) has told me that I should feel fortunate that I got 10 years from the truck. Since this is as long as they are supposed to last anyways. My dealer (down east Toyota of brewer, maine) told me my option was that they have a person that buys used vehicles and I could make an appointment with them to see what the junk buyer would give me for my truck. Or, I could pay to have the frame replaced. Given the severity of this kind of issue, and the safety issues raised with a damaged frame, I would have expected to receive notification through registered mail of the issue. Or at least, a follow up letter to insure the first notice was received. As I said, I do not remember getting such notification. I have written to Toyota and have heard nothing back as of yet.

4 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2001 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 06/27/2015

Took my 2001 Tundra in for the frame recalls. I had 52616 miles on a garage kept truck. They said my frame would be fine and would have a crc compound applied Apr 2012. After a few weeks I took it back in since the compound was falling off, may 2012. They reapplied the crc. I told them I had concerns over spraying over rust, but said they were sure Toyota would stand behind it. Feb 2014 the technician made a comment about the rust and lack of compound visible. Feb 2015 the technician again said it was clear that the crc was almost gone. He made a note of it on the service report. I asked them to contact the corp office about it. A few weeks later the dealership said that corp wouldn't spray it again, but that the dealership would spray it. 27 June 2015 driving home from work on interstate 41, the front strap holding the gas tank broke, mileage 58325. I got the truck to the dealership and had new straps installed. The technician said they actually had to drill and tap and mount the front strap in a different location due to severe rotting of the frame. Afterwards I found out that the straps should have been replaced during phase 2 of ssc 90. I called Toyota corp case# 1507131315. The first case manager george said right away Toyota would do nothing for me. Then I took my truck to the gas station to fill it up for the first time. Gas started pouring out onto the ground. I basically called every day till I got jeffery moore as manager. He got my straps and tanks replaced but said corp wouldn't do anything about the frame. I sent pictures and everything. Now Toyota will not respond to any of my e-mails or calls . My frame has holes that I can put my hand threw and has only 6000 miles on it since it was sprayed. I'm afraid that the gas will brake away or the frame will snap at any time. The govt needs to make them fix this safety issue that was in the recall, not mask it.

5 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2003 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 11/02/2012

Took 2003 Toyota Tundra in for frame rust corrosion program 09v-444000. Was told frame and other components had extensive rust and multiple 10mm holes by lead service technician at local Toyota dealership. Service manager explained that my 2003 Toyota Tundra frame was extensively rusted and unsafe to be on the road and they wanted to take my truck immediately and provide a rental car due to safety concerns. Asked for a plan of action of the scope of work to be performed (corrosion compound verses frame replacement) before giving possession of vehicle. Photos of 2003 Toyota Tundra frame, rear cross members, spare tire carrier, rear brake lines & fuel tank mounting system were taken and sent to lead service tech three states away in texas. Was informed extensive frame rust exists on all components (frame, rear cross members, spare tire carrier, rear brake lines & fuel tank mounting system) but it is not covered because vehicle is no longer registered in wisconsin. Purchased this 2003 Toyota certified vehicle in wisconsin in April of 2010 and no information was given to me at regarding the NHTSA investigation or any rust inspections that were performed. Toyota corporation refuses to repair, replace or add corrosion resistant compound to any severely affected rusted components. Significant rust issues exist on this vehicle and still Toyota corporation refuses to provide any documentation of their inspections. Toyota corporation will not put in writing that the frame, rear cross members, spare tire carrier, rear brake lines & fuel tank mounting system is safe or road worthy. Deadline for all rust repairs is December 31, 2012. Toyota corporation is stalling consumers to keep from doing any repairs and leaving unsafe rusted 2003 Toyota Tundra's on the highways. Please initiate a new NHTSA investigation regarding this matter for the safety of consumers.

6 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2005 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 04/01/2010

Bought this vehicle used in 2010 and it had a lot of corrosion underneath then. Currently has 50 k miles. My brakes are squealing due to corrosion preventing the calipers from moving and the wheel was corroded to the hub and it took a lot of effort to remove it. The structural members and all the components have loose layers of rust. The exhaust heat shields fell off. The spare tire restraint system looks too weak so I removed the spare. The spare wheel is so corroded that the bolt holes are no longer smooth for the lugs to bear against evenly. I am concerned that something bad will happen eventually if a weakened critical part were to fail. I doubt the undercoating Toyota is offering for 04 to 06 trucks can help much at this point. I don't want to be the guy who drops a fuel tank on the freeway.
