8 Rear Suspension problem of the 2000 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 10/31/2009

The rear of truck dropped and once checked it was found that the rear suspension shackles rotted off the frame, when taken to the local Toyota dealer (tarbox Toyota, north kingstown ri) an inspection of the frame was conducted and the dealer stated the frame had rotted and the vehicle was unsafe to drive. They stated there was nothing they could do they then gave me the 800 number to Toyota corp. When Toyota was contacted they stated that they will keep my case on file and there was nothing they could do for me at this time.

9 Rear Suspension problem of the 2000 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 10/18/2009

Frame is excessively rusted. At the frame member where the rear leaf spring is attached the frame is flaking and separating. It looks like the frame member will brake loose any time separating the leaf spring from the frame.

10 Rear Suspension problem of the 2000 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 10/10/2009

2000 Toyota Tundra 2wd 4dr pickup. Severe frame rust. The back joint that holds the leaf spring to the frame rusted on the driver side and the spring separated from the frame. The vehicle swerved some going over a highway road dip at highway speed when the spring apparently separated from the frame. The driver side rear leaf spring is close to separating also on account of the severe rust of the vehicles frame. It is sitting at a dealership in east stoudsburg since oct. 12 awaiting Toyota field rep and company to make some kind of decision.

11 Rear Suspension problem of the 2001 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 10/10/2009

I currently own a 2001 Toyota Tundra pickup truck, bought in 2003, and have garaged it for 85% of its life, sprayed and cleaned the undercarriage on a regular basis. The truck currently has 90k on it. The frame does have rust throughout. Especially where the suspension supports are located from front to back and most if not all of the hardware that holds the bed to the frame and the whole truck to the frame is rusted and some of the threads of the fasteners are gone. Am concerned that it is a safety hazard for my family and anyone passing by the truck while it is in motion. Am wondering what the out come will be.

12 Rear Suspension problem of the 2001 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 10/02/2009

Rust and excessive corrosion 2001 Toyota Tundra resulting in frame and suspension component weakness and broken leaf spring.

13 Rear Suspension problem of the 2009 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 09/30/2009

Truck has extreme vibration, bounce and overall shake at freeway speeds as felt throughout the vehicle. This combined with the very light steering and accelerator effort leads to a very unstable feeling of not being in control of the vehicle. It is difficult to maintain even and steady accelerator pressure and steering direction. Dealership has rotated and balanced tires and performed alignment, but has made zero difference.

14 Rear Suspension problem of the 2000 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 09/22/2009

I was told by service technician changing my oil that I had some very significant rust on the frame of my 2000 Tundra. I have been finding rust flakes on my garage floor and after reading about people having frame failures I contacted the Toyota customer center to see if there was any type of recall. They took my information and specifically asked if I had holes in the frame? Toyota representative was most cordial but explained that Toyota has not yet taken action to address how they might assist Tundra owners with this issue. I have scheduled an inspection for my Tundra's frame with a Toyota dealer for next week. There is rust on entire frame and it is very rusted on the springs and holders. Every welded joint has flaking and showing separating layers. I don't believe I will be towing or carrying heavy weight till I'm assured the rust ed parts have proper integrity to support weight and speeds. Tell everyone you know to with a 2000-2001 Tundra with rust to call Toyota!!!!!! and file a complaint here. Toyota wants to know, and we need some answers and assistance in making sure frames are safe.

15 Rear Suspension problem of the 2007 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 09/10/2009

I have a 2007 Tundra DC trd truck. I replaced the oem tires at 19500 miles (bfg rugged trails) with michelin ltx at2's March 2009. I now have 23,800 miles on the truck. Now anytime I go over any type of bump regardless of speed the bed bounces so bad that it vibrates up through the cab. The bed bounced before but not this bad. I feel it in the drivers seat. If I drive on a back dirt road the back end bounces all over the road. I brought this to the attention of the local dealership and they said they hadn't heard of this problem when I reported it in September of 2009. Now that the mechanic called Toyota headquarters in CA, he said there were numerous complaints and that there was no fix for it. Service manager said it was the tires. Dealer recommended I add weight in the bed, I added 5 sandbags, 300 lbs (winter is almost here) and it made no difference to the ride. I believe this could lead to a serious accident if not corrected.

16 Rear Suspension problem of the 2000 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 05/01/2009

The frame of my 2000 Toyota Tundra is rusted out to the point of being unsafe to drive. Large, solid chunks of rusted steel come off by hand. Others pieces fall off onto the driveway when you close the door too hard. It's a shame, too because everything else runs great and I wanted to keep the truck to give to my son when he gets his license, but it is now a safety hazard, unfit to drive.

17 Rear Suspension problem of the 2000 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 03/26/2009

2000 Toyota Tundra with rust holes through frame over and beside rear shock brackets and spring brackets. I am at my wits end with Toyota and have tried to resolve this obvious defect at every level. This has become a safety issue for my self and other drivers, it is just a matter of time before the frame will snap in half. This truck is only 8 years old and the problem is getting worse by the day, I reported this with Toyota almost two years ago and they said they would put it in the system? now March of 2009 Toyota has inspected the truck and admits there is a problem but does not want to resolve it. I can go on line and find alot of complaints about this same problem with Toyota dodging the issue. I was wondering if this would be something that should be looked into since they have already had this problem with some of the other trucks they manufacture. I plan to also notify my insurance company that they possibly could be insuring a potential disaster. Your help and input would be greatly appreciated.

18 Rear Suspension problem of the 2000 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 11/15/2008

The brake line tubing at the proportioning valve on the left rear inside frame rail corroded and burst causing all brake fluid to escape and the brake pedal went to the floor and made the vehicle difficult to stop. I was traveling close to home at a speed of approximately 25 mph. I down shifted and was able to slow to 5mph to drive the vehicle to my home garage where I replaced the tubing, fluid and bled the brakes. Fortunately no accident occurred, I discarded the old tubing and fittings after the repairs were made. The frame area behind the tubing near the left rear shock mount is corroded so badly that I am able to pass a tennis ball through the left rear frame rail. The right and left frame rails are perforated where the spare tire carrier is riveted to the horizontal frame channels directly above the rear axle. The frame is corroded badly and paper thin in areas that surround the perforations.

19 Rear Suspension problem of the 2008 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 09/14/2008

I have a 2008 Toyota Tundra double cab with 14,000 miles on it. At highway speeds (65+mph) there is a terrible bounce in the bed of the truck. At times, it is so bad that I feel like I might lose control of the vehicle and must slow down well below the speed limit. I had my tires balanced and the problem still exists. I cannot take passengers on long highway trips because they get nauseous. I am worried that this will cause myself or someone else with a Tundra to become injured or die. This has been happening since I purchased the vehicle six months ago when it had 8,000 miles on it.

20 Rear Suspension problem of the 2008 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 07/30/2008

Driving on interstate 40 (east of oklahoma city) truck develops a violent vibration. The bed appears to be bouncing up and down - side to side. Incident occurrs everytime I drive this strtch of road. Tires have been inspected and balanced (no improvement to rough, dangerous ride).

21 Rear Suspension problem of the 2008 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 06/12/2008

The vehicle has a violent bounce that is not normal. I own previous versions of the Toyota Tundra and the bounce is not an issue. Over the same freeways the new Toyota Tundra 2008 has an extremely violent bounce to a point where I can't even sit back in the chair. I have lean forward to avoid the back ache. I can't even put my baby niece in the car because, her head will start bouncing everywhere. The problem needs to be addressed and fixed by Toyota.

22 Rear Suspension problem of the 2008 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 05/01/2008

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Tundra. The contact noticed that the rear of the vehicle bounced drastically while driving between 60-70 mph. In addition, the tires were becoming worn and needed constant rotation. Toyota was aware of the failures, but does not have a remedy. They suggested that the road conditions may be at fault. The contact is concerned that a crash could occur. The current mileage was 18,900 and failure mileage was 10,000.

23 Rear Suspension problem of the 2007 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 03/01/2008

Severe rear end oscillations/bouncing causing blurred vision on part of driver when traveling on concrete highways/freeways at any speed.

24 Rear Suspension problem of the 2008 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 12/23/2007

We recently bought an 2008 Toyota Tundra v6 4x2 double cab. I noticed a terrible bed bounce that makes us the passengers and driver dizzy and nauseated. I personally feel it is not a safe truck because this can cause road accidents. I went to the dealer and had this complaint but they say it is the trucks normal characteristic and nothing can be done. I don't think owning and driving an expensive truck just to feel dizzy and nauseated is normal. Can you please help us with this. Toyota should do something to correct this for safety. If I have a pregnant woman riding this car, she will probably have an abortion due to the bed bounce.

25 Rear Suspension problem of the 2007 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 11/25/2007

2007 Toyota Tundra double cab 4x2 5. 7ltr v-8. Vehicle has an extreme and dangerous "bed bounce" or vibration at all regular highway speeds on concrete type freeways with expansion joints. The vehicle becomes very unstable and feels as if control will be lost. It is completely unbearable. Dealer reports similar complaints from other 2007 Toyota Tundra owners. All 2007 Tundra models exhibit this failure and it stems from a design flaw in the chassis/suspension. Event began from the day the vehicle was driven off the dealership lot (11/25/07) and continues to date. Toyota needs to address this serious matter and correct the issue.

26 Rear Suspension problem of the 2007 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 10/30/2007

The vehicle bounces horrible at speeds of 60-80mph on concrete freeways. As per dealer I have added 200# of added weight to the rear, to which the problem still occurred. The bouncing is very noticeable in the rear seats, so much so that I am not comfortable having my 2 year old daughter as a passenger. This is unacceptable since we purchased this as a family vehicle. I have inspected the tire pressure and have not had any noticeable effect on the bouncing. I feel the vehicle in unsafe on these roads and could very easily become unstable.

27 Rear Suspension problem of the 2007 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 09/02/2007

While traveling down the highway there is a very noticeable bounce coming from the back end and it doesn't matter what highway it is on it does it when ever you get over 65 mph.

28 Rear Suspension problem of the 2007 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 09/01/2007

Bed bounce is horrible on my 2007 Tundra. Not only does it happen at speeds of 55-70 on the highway, but gets very shaky when slowing down to turn. It has made me very uncomfortable driving, because I am more concerned about the bed bounce than the other traffic around me.

29 Rear Suspension problem of the 2007 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 07/17/2007

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Tundra. While driving 55 mph, particularly on certain concrete surfaces, the rear of the vehicle bounced violently and oscillated. Toyota stated that they were aware of the failure, but there was currently no remedy available. The purchase date was unknown. The current mileage was 4,000 and failure mileage was 100.

30 Rear Suspension problem of the 2007 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 06/24/2007

Bouncing up and down on the Toyota Tundra 2007, impossible to travel, not recommended by doctor to travel with pregnant woman!!!!!called Toyota, they saying nothing they can do, not enough complains yet.

31 Rear Suspension problem of the 2000 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 06/01/2007

The contact owns a 2000 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated while braking to a complete stop, there was an abnormal bang from the rear of the vehicle. The dealer advised the rear axle was fractured and the axle was replaced. In addition, the contact noticed an unknown leak coming from the rear wheels. The dealer replaced the brake seals to correct the failure. The failure recurred within eight months. The dealer then replaced the brake seals and shoes. Within one year, while driving at 60 mph and depressing the brakes, there was an abnormal increase in stopping distance and the brake warning light illuminated on the warning panel. The contact replaced the brake line himself to correct the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 128,000.

32 Rear Suspension problem of the 2007 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 04/01/2007

There is an issue with the 2007 Tundra suspension that causes a mechanical resonance on various concrete roads. This results in a "shaking", "bouncing", "wobbling" that is seemingly severe enough to cause injuries in young or elderly passengers at legal speed limits. Furthermore the wobbling could lead to accidents due to loss of control at higher speeds. I am certain that if this issue is not addressed, it will eventually lead to injury. The dealer has stated that this is "normal". However, using any good judgment at all, I would not consciously expose an infant passenger to this "normal" wobble. This occurs on roads that consist of concrete slabs. Southern California is an area with such highways. I have experienced this issue on I-5, I-405, I-110 to name a few.

33 Rear Suspension problem of the 2007 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 03/31/2007

Bed bounces and shakes excessively. Toyota is aware of the defect but refuses to correct it. This condition can cause vehicle instability and driver fatigue, especially at highway speeds on concrete roadways.

34 Rear Suspension problem of the 2007 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 03/31/2007

Unresolved safety issues with 2007 Toyota Tundra: 1. Towing mirrors vibrate, previously reported Toyota case # 200704230738. Mirrors are unusable above 40mph due to vibration. 2. Bed bounce is so severe on some roads, particularly I-10 between indio and los angeles, that it is impossible to carry on a normal conversation. Dealer response to both issues has been they all do this, so they cannot make a fix until Toyota comes up with a solution. Internet reports prove that the dealer is correct: all Tundras have these problems. Thus the problem is not with the dealer, but is indicative of first-year production problems. Hopefully Toyota can resolve this to avoid invoking lemon law protection.

35 Rear Suspension problem of the 2007 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 03/01/2007

2007 crewcab shakes rattles and vibrates so violently that it feels as though it may fall apart, the dashboard becomes a blur, it is absolutely unacceptable and after numerous call to Toyota customer service, nothing has been done.
